Time & Truth

Rate this book
Quinn survived the trials.
She claimed her power.
Now the world expects her to use it—on their terms.

Waking in a fortress that bears her name, Quinn should feel safe. Instead, she finds herself standing at the center of a fragile alliance built on secrets, fear, and expectations she never agreed to carry. Every choice she makes ripples outward—through politics, magic, and the men bound to her fate.

Xan is done hiding what he is.
Ezra is balancing devotion with duty.
Cayden is unraveling beneath truths he can’t unsee.
Rowan watches it all, steady and silent, knowing something is coming.

As Quinn begins reshaping a broken system—freeing women, testing the limits of her magic, and redefining power itself—new threats surface. Ones that don’t want her dead.

They want her controlled.

Because a woman who chooses for herself is dangerous.
And a woman with magic, loyalty, and love behind her?

She’s a revolution.

Time & Truth is the third book in a slow-burn reverse harem romantasy with MM, political intrigue, morally gray choices, and a heroine who refuses to be owned—by magic, men, or fate. See author website for triggers.

Kate Messick has done it again. She's given us another amazing book. I love all the emotions and growth in this book. So many intentions and declarations were made, lives changed, and so much love. The shear amount of chaos and fun the author has brought to the series is amazing. This series is an absolute must read with all the magic, love, broken future and lives, and so much more. Tethered By Temptations has become one of my new favorite series.

Kate Messick has created a vivid new World, TIME AND TRUTHS made me remember what makes reading good fantasy so enjoyable! Everything feels unsettled as Quinn awakens from brain surgery, especially her memories, her magic, and the men who claim to be by her side. Instead of providing her with safety, survival makes her a target, with their teeth gritted, the governing families crowd around her, prepared to pervert every word she has ever said! From the first chapter on, the suspense never lets go!!! The compulsive nature of this book is similar to that of late-night confessions: you need the truth more than you need to sleep, and this truth is brutal, sophisticated, and terrifying!
.
A book that digs its teeth in like a starving wolf, it unsettles, it gnaws, and yet by the final page, I wanted to thank it for what it put me through! The anarchy grows so visceral in this installment that it becomes addictive. Quinn has her suspicions about Xan and Ezra, and she's not mistaken, they regress to their old behaviors and ignore her when the pressure builds. Rowan remains unbreakable, Cayden drags guilt like a chain, and every alliance feels like it could fall apart at any moment. Even if there are continuous scenes and tensions that return, it feels constructed, as if you're caught in a cycle that you can't proprioceptively navigate, your body gives you the unsettled feeling that something is wrong. It's recalibration when Quinn departs with the Westwaters to breathe on her own terms. Because devotion is a cost in this situation, the emotional stakes are high, really really high!
.
Then the destruction unfolds... Quinn has to prove that she is not being influenced by the Architect when Professor Holiday joins the scene with a controlled menace and magic becomes unpredictable! Holiday is left staring at a genuine dragon and much more difficult problems after defeating her, which should make things easier, as the families swarm the recovered castle in search of Xan, the political pressure grows. The rumbling of an impending war and a magnificent storm building on the horizon infects every scene! Power, according to the Author Kate Messick, is thrilling and alienating. The result is so engrossing that you find yourself holding on to the page more tightly with each chapter!
.
Quinn herself is the most diligent, she is tired of feeling restricted by other people's ideas of what is true and of being negotiated over, her development is complex and difficult, she battles not only enemies but also the story that others want to impose on her! It is sharply fascinating to see the guys around her fight with the awareness that they must rise or be left behind! Steam, treachery, tenderness, and a slow buildup toward an all-out conflict that seems unavoidable are all present! The series is set up for a legendary finale by the last pages, when the anticipation is nearly excruciating. Compulsive, addictive, and incredibly fearless, TIME AND TRUTHS delivers a woman who never doubts herself and her path is powerfully a kingdom's most deadly weapon!!!

Here we are, book three in the Tethered by Temptation series, and everything is still a hot mess, but I'm loving it. I put aside an entire day to read Time & Truths because I knew once I started, I would want to stop, and I was right! This series just keeps getting better.

This slow-burn is starting to heat up. The harem is finally settling in, and Quinn has figured out what she wants and is communicating that to the guys. I love where things are headed. Hopefully, they can keep that momentum up. The plot really focused on the families this time. I got a clearer picture of the world, and the differences between the families couldn't be more obvious. Their political views also stood out. Basically, the families were crap. I thought this was a brutal world since book one, but it turns out to be even more brutal than I thought. The trials Quinn had to go through really said it all. Xan's family is really looking like a dream at this point.

I'm a little surprised that the plot twist was in the beginning, but it was genius. I was so worried about the situation that I didn't think about the solution. Plus, it set up the storyline nicely. Everything flowed smoothly. There were several new characters; Ravana was a trip. Any new allies for Quinn is a good thing. A few people got what was coming to them, though not nearly enough. There was a moment where my feelings took me by surprise. I didn’t expect to feel sad for a certain character, and it still kind of haunts me. At least there wasn't a cliffhanger, so there's that. I'm so conflicted. While I can't wait to see how it all ends, I also simultaneously don't want it to. Time and Truth was just spectacular! Ten out of ten!

There's so much going on at this point but there are some conclusions. I really enjoy how steady the plot movement is and how we're seeing Quinn really come into her own and be more confident in every way, including her magic...which keeps growing.
In this one the big spice finally hits and it was well worth the wait.
I'm excited to read the next one!

They wanted the truth.
They didn’t like what it revealed.

Quinn survived the trials.
That was supposed to make her safe.

Instead, it made her visible.

I enjoyed this book it’s part of 4 book series Tethered by Temptation.

This series is such a good read. I have loved the world building which is so unusual. The characters really develop and grow, and there is lots of drama to get your teeth into! I did find it somewhat slower than previous books, but still a great read!

Time & Truth is a thought-provoking and ambitious novel that blends science fiction and emotional depth in an intriguing way. Kate Messick does an excellent job of weaving complex themes of time, destiny, and the pursuit of truth, creating a world that challenges both the characters and the reader to question their understanding of reality.

The main character’s journey is engaging, and Messick’s writing captures the internal struggle of someone caught between personal beliefs and the harsh truths of their world. The plot itself is clever, with enough twists and turns to keep you hooked, and the pacing is generally well-maintained. However, there are moments where the story slows down, particularly during the more philosophical sections, which may feel a bit drawn-out for readers eager for more action.

The character development is strong, but some secondary characters could have been fleshed out more. Their motivations occasionally feel a bit one-dimensional, and it’s hard to connect with them as deeply as with the protagonist. Additionally, while the world-building is solid, I did find myself wanting a bit more detail in certain aspects of the setting, especially in terms of how the technology and time-travel elements work in practical terms.

Overall, Time & Truth is a highly enjoyable and thought-provoking read, but it’s not without its pacing and character depth issues. Despite these, Messick's storytelling is strong enough to keep you invested, earning it a well-deserved four stars.

Title: Time and Truth ( Tethered by Temptation Book 3)
Author: Kate Messick
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Oh yes Kate Messick blew my mind once again. Just when I thought one and two could not be topped, she's like hold on a second I got number three for you. She did not disappoint. This book brought more of the emotional value into it I kind of felt more emotional with this book than I did the other two. Especially after Quinn had to go through her surgery and then things kind of went downhill from there a little bit. I didn't like how Xan and Ezra they kind of regressed back to Old behavior and kind of ignored Quinn when the stress really started to hit. Rowan as always, he was the loyal rock that he always is. Cayden, poor Cayden I feel like he is guilt-ridden I wonder if he'll ever get that off of him. During all of this the alliances felt like things may actually finally break. I stated before I love the emotions in this book they were very high. I did like the constant feeling in this book of kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop so to speak. It's like you were always constantly on edge of is it really going to happen what's going to happen next. The characters are always absolutely phenomenal. The world building is absolutely phenomenal you could visualize it as you read in your head. Overall, the author knocked it out of the park again. I am hooked to this series. I need to know what happens in book 4 now. So now I'm sitting over here waiting impatiently for number four to come.

Time & Truth is the third book in Messick's Tethered by Temptation series. This why choose, dystopian romantasy features Quinn, Alexander, Ezra, Cayden and Rowan. It picks up where the story leaves off in the second book so please read them in order.

This installment starts off with Quinn waking up after her brain surgery. Like our main character, it leaves readers questioning what is real and what is not. When Quinn finally gets back to her men, the adventures ramp up. Just a few of the many things taking place in this book include unravelling one of the monsters, a return to Cayden's family, proving Quinn to the architect's supposed allies that she is acting of her own free will, body snatchers, and lots of validation and feelings.

Quinn's character development remains ongoing. In addition to discovering a little more about her magic, she also learns more about herself - her needs, her wants and her desires. It is a beautiful thing seeing her continue to step into her power. Her men will need to step up and offer her what she needs, or be prepared to be left behind.

I'm loving this series. Each release quickly grabs me and holds on tight. I know there is at least one more book coming in May - Life & Love. I'm not sure if the author plans to wrap things up with the next installment or if there may be the promise of more. Time will tell. Until then, I'll be not so patiently waiting.

Book 3 has us primed for an epic ending!
When you read this series, there is a lot to love, and there is a lot of chaos along with that. We pick right up with Quinn waking up from brain surgery. But she quickly realizes not all is as it seems...
I will admit, there were parts of this one that was a bit repetative, but it was just the characters being themselves - I wanted to reach through and shake them. Quinn is still doubting Xan and Ezra, and she's right to because they go back to ignoring her. Not cool! They will learn the hard way though. Especially once they get the castle back and the families decide to come after Xan. There's no disaster yet, but Quinn decides she needs to get away and go with the Westwaters for awhile. I absolutely love all the action and plot we get in this book. Quinn has some new challenges ahead, espeicallly with her new "friend". But also, these guys have a lot of work to do to make sure she feels cared for an wanted. Now, with an all out battle on the horizon, the team will have to finally come together. Cayden needs to trust Xan. Ezra and Xan need to show Quinn how much they care. Cayden needs to work through his issues and guilt. Rowan, he's still supporting Quinn like a steady rock (Go Rowan!).

This book was utterly phenomenal. I don’t think I have the words for how much I enjoyed reading this book. I was sucked into this installation in the series from the first line and not once did my interest waiver. I couldn’t put it down. Who needs sleep when I have an epic story to read?! The nagging questions I was left with after book 2 were answered but now I have more and I need more. The book took me on a journey and I was more than happy to go along for the ride. There’s so much character growth and development, as well as some serious plot line movement. Quinn has really come into her own and all I can say is yaaassssss girl! I adored watching not only the relationships between Quinn and the others morph and change but watching the interconnecting relationships between them all changing as well. No connection is stagnant. No connection is stale. And that’s not an easy thing to accomplish. Rowan is such a strong pillar for those around him. And sometimes I just wish he didn’t have to be so strong and steady. Ezra, Xan, and Cay still make me want to shake them at times but they are definitely in their redemption arc for me. And now I cannot wait for the next book in the series. I absolutely must now where this goes and what happens to these characters!

Time And Truths: Tethered By Temptation Book 3 by Kate Messick is a why-choose dystopian romantasy. This picks up where the last book left off Quinn is once again unsure if she actually has magic or is just delusional. As rumors spread of Quinn and her power other factions want to claim her so they organize a test of her free will to ensure she is not.under the control of the architect. Will the architect find a way to save Quinn without starting a war?
The world-building and character development in this book/series is phenomenal. There are plenty of twists and surprises. I love her relationships with her men, they are all unique and bring something different to the table that she needs. This is the first book in the series where she is outside of the architect's “domain”. Ezra and Zan finally realize they have to step it up, communicate, and start backing up what they say with actions if they want to keep Quinn. I enjoyed how Quinn kind of pulls everyone out of their comfort zone.
If you enjoy dystopian romantic fantasy with themes of magic, time travel, tethers(bonds), humor, reverse harem, and found family then you will LOVE Time & Truths!

I really love this series, although the mmc’s can all use a bump on the head at times to see if that makes them act less stupid. Still, I do understand why our leading lady likes them. The mistakes they make are never done malignantly, but just because they don’t seem to understand women very well. This third book isn’t any different, but I do reward them for trying to do better. I just think some need a bigger kick to the head to really get it.

The thing I love most about this portal / time travel series is the world building. There is so much wrong with this world, but every time we see the worse it has to offer, there is also a tiny bright spot that shows things can be better. It doesn’t help Quinn that everything she does makes her more enticing for the body snatchers and all other men (and women) who want her to further their own agenda. Free will may be the focus in this third book, but it also shows how warped you can make a concept like that.

For me this series is becoming a little too spicy at this point (I know, I’m a weirdo like that), but I still love the story so much I’ll definitely pick up book four once it’s released.

SO much is going on in this third book, that I have a hard time gathering my thoughts to figure out where to start.
The twists along the way, the surprises and the personal development for each character is great - still a while to go, but hey! I can't wait for all that in the final book!
Deep subjects of tra0ma, b3trayal and society.
While keeping you entertained in the best way possible, it also makes you think.
A work of art for sure!

Dunno who I want to shake more, Alexander, Ezra or Cayden LOL
Rowan is the pilar of faith in this book. The stabilizing factor.
Quinn figures out so much about herself (and her magic - but each question answered, raise ten new ones) and really works on her self image. How and who she wants to be. Loved that part a lot.
And lets just say, I'm here for ALL the pets to come! I'm so jelly LOL

Anyway, I'm SO ready for the next book. Can't wait to know where it all ends,
So far, I highly recommend this series to fans of WhyChoose, who loves the magical twists of entering an unknown world.
Not a stand alone, the series has to be read in order. A very mild (in my opinion) cliffie at the end of this one.

This story gets better with each book. I love Quinn so much. She is rather unreliable but she is growing and learning and doing so much better with everything. Throughout the trials in this installment she didn't falter, she rose. Even when she wasn't sure things were right or wrong. At the end she finally decided to take some power back for herself. I am so very curious to see if she keeps that fire going or if she backslides.

I held my breath with Ezra, Xan and Cayden. All 3 of these guys really get on my nerves from time to time, however, they have redeemed themselves. Cayden was a giant ball of rage for a vast majority of this book, but that makes sense. Xan and Ezra both made a few of the same mistakes over and over but they are finally getting the picture now.

Rowan is holding steady. He is doing everything in his power to keep everyone together. He does a lot to help everyone get along and sometimes it feels so subtle but it's definitely there.

I look forward to the last book. Will they all get their HEA or will everything fall apart?

This third instalment picks up where we left off. Quinn has woken up & finds herself in a hospital, has she imagined her guys & the world full of magic after all?!

As always this story grips me from the start. In this one, Quinn is faced with proving that she is not being mind controlled by Xan & has to face a test from each of the different families. Quinn is to look at other families favours & decide whether she is interested in considering their proposals. This story is full of growth for all the characters. Quinn starts to develop an understanding of what she is worth & doesn’t allow the guys to rule her. Rowan & Cayden’s relationship with Quinn has been developing well over the last couple of books. Whereas Quinn’s relationship with Ezra & Xan has left her unsure of their feeling for her & unintentionally hurting her. There’s also growth with all four of the guys although Cayden & Xan both keep butting heads.

I continue to enjoy this series & look forward to when this slow burn, heats up

The further into this series I get, the more I realize how devastated I’m going to be when it ends.
Quinn has it rough, regardless of which world she’s in. But she’s learning to overcome her fears, say what she wants, and believe in herself a bit as well. The beginning of the book messed with your head a bit. This is the first time I’ve read a climactic point at the very beginning. However, it was written so well that the entire book flowed after it, still.
The trials Quinn has to go through and the families she deals with gives us an even greater knowledge of the world as well as the politics. And honestly? Quinn is definitely where she should have been, after seeing what’s going on with the other families. So much happens in such a short time that I’m amazed the keeps her head straight. Ravana and her contract, however, seem like good people. And the test the guys go through to be able to see her, without her knowledge, was brilliant on their part.
There’s so much going on it’s hard to give hints without spoilers. But I’m super excited for the next book to come.

📚 Time and Truth by Kate Messick – Book Review

As the third book in the series, Time and Truth really continues the strong storytelling that’s been consistent throughout all three books so far. This installment starts answering a lot of the lingering questions from book two, which I absolutely loved.

At the beginning, I’ll admit I was a little confused and felt like I might be rereading something—but once everything started to click and the truth came out… wow, it was wild! The way everything unfolded was definitely worth it.

One of my favorite parts was seeing ZanRa begin to open up and reveal their true intentions toward Quinn. That emotional shift added so much depth to the story. There’s also a ton of character growth across all the MMCs, which made the connections feel even stronger and more meaningful.

Rowan did seem to take a bit of a backseat in this book, but honestly, it worked. Since his past isn’t as heavy or complicated, it made sense to focus more on the others and their development.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story and getting to dive deeper into the characters and their journeys. I’m so excited to jump into book four!

I think this is my favorite of the series so far! With Quinn zapped back to her time/reality she awakens after surgery in a hospital bed with a man who looks eerily similar to Xan, named Alex, asking her post op questions to decide how effective the surgery was. But she keeps hearing Ezra’s voice in her head and she keeps looping back to this scene over and over. She begins to realize while her body is with Ezra and Cayden after defeating Cay’s ex-Prophet/father/grandfather her mind is clearly stuck with whoever this Alex person is and he is manipulating her mind to see this. We get tossed back into chaos and eventually Quinn is made to do trials designed by four of the major families to price she isn’t being mind controlled by The Architect. With this separation from her four men to prep she realizes she does want and live them all and they realize the same. We get some fun spice in here too and Quinn finally flexes some major majekah muscle as well. We are left with a war breaking out and our five deciding what thy want & need moving forward. I can’t wait to read the last book!

This felt a little slower than the first two books, it was a good change of pace, allowing Quinn to try and work out what she wants and from whom. Unfortunately as this is the dystopian future, things are never that simple and her choices become weaponised by the families into ‘tests’ to show that she’s not under Xan’s control.
With the advent of the tests, the book shifts gears and I felt like I was on a runaway train getting faster and ready to crash.
Cayden went from irritating, whilst moping, to him taking charge, amusing and then ultra protective.
I absolutely loved Ezra in this, his ‘denial’ and release, omg 🥵🥵🥵 and I think he might be my new favourite.
The whole room thing, eek 🌶️🌶️🌶️🥵🥵🥵🔥🔥🔥 a caged 🍆, voyeurism! Wow! Plus Quinn gets a very happy ending!
The ending was cool, Quinn becoming who she wants to be and making choices for herself. It just remains to be seen how she can get there.

Time & Truths

When last we saw Quinn, Cayden, Rowan, Ezra and Xan ... Cayden 's prophet has been killed and Quinn is unconscious with Erza keeping her warm and Rowan and Xan are trying to save Xan's castle.... and Quinn believes she is back on the operating table about to get brain surgery and that everything was all in her mind....

This third book was a great addition to the series!

Cayden has some major growth not just with his attraction to Quinn and his desires but also with his disdain for Xan.

Rowan is still his golden retriever self, and he pushes Cay to confront his issues.

And of course Ezra and Xan want me to just shake them and make them tell Quinn what they want.

And when Quinn leaves the safety of Xan's bc everyone thinks she is being manipulated by Xan is major growth for her. And the trials that she is put through are just a distraction.

I was kind of sad at the end of Alex eventhough he didn't start out in a good light, we learn about him from Xan and you almost feel sad for Alex because all he wanted was a friend.

Can't wait to see what book 4 brings

This series has me ensnared. There is so much going on here. The families, time-travel, magic, monsters, infertility, dragons, relationships, kidnapping and war. This book takes up from the last when Quinn has just helped to defeat the Prophet and is trying to understand where she is and what is real. Then, the other families accuse the Architect of controlling her mind and call for her to be separated from the Architect and go through trials to test her free will. During this time she is able to get a better understanding of herself and what she truly wants. It was nice seeing Quinn’s confidence grow in preparation for what I’m sure will be an intense series of events leading to the conclusion of this series in book 4. Quinn is still quite the question, and I am anxious to see how her power is going to develop and more about her origins.

This book picks up right where the last one left off, with Quinn waking up from brain surgery and quickly realizing that not everything is as it seems. As with the rest of the series, there’s a lot to love here—along with plenty of chaos.
Some parts felt a bit repetitive, mostly because the characters keep falling back into their same habits. Quinn is still doubting Xan and Ezra, and honestly she has good reason to when they go right back to ignoring her. At times I wanted to shake them! Still, the action and plot development kept me hooked, especially as the families start coming after Xan and the tension builds toward a bigger conflict.
Quinn also faces new challenges, and the guys still have a lot to prove if they want her to feel truly cared for. With a battle on the horizon, the whole team will need to come together. And Rowan? Still the steady rock supporting Quinn—go Rowan!

Kate has done it again! Absolutely captivating storytelling.
Her words are the very magic birthing baby dragons into excistence. Everything she writes is powerful, Time and Truth being no exeption to the rule. I can't even begin to properly praise the world and character building happening in this book!
So damn good!!! Aaaah!!!
If you were ever in doubt if this series is worth your time, don't you doubt. This is gold. Prismatic diamond. Powerful woman, taking what's her due, learning to stay strong and true to herself and what she wants. Four men growelling to give her everything. The world being a jealous bitchass place that cannot stop the power of love and friendship. If that's your vibe, you have come to the right place!

The start was a little slower than my personal preference, but once it picked up, it really picked up — and I was completely locked in. The pacing tightens fast and doesn’t let go.

The spice moves from slow to medium pretty quickly and then gets hotter — and honestly? We love that for Quinn..

I especially loved that this book highlighted Quinn’s growth outside of her connections to her four partners and everyone else’s expectations. The scenes between the MMCs were also a standout — seeing their bonds grow made the dynamic even stronger.

Now I’m officially counting down the days until book four. I need it ASAP. 🔥📖

As with the first two books in the series, I was absolutely enthralled by book three "Time and Truth". After the cliffhanger in book two I couldn't wait to find out more and see how Quinn's story would progress. The wait for book 3 was agonizing for me because I'm impatient and a nervous Nelly but it was so so worth it! I loved the developments and epiphanies related to Quinn's abilities and am curious to see how they play out in the last book both politically and personally for Quinn and her family. The world building and story telling abilities of this author allow me to be completely immersed in the story which is something that I haven't been able to do with a series since ACOTAR. Don't sleep on this series...I cannot recommend it enough! Also, the spice is *chef's kiss*

So I pick up on patterns very easily and I've had theories as to everything in this series. I have 1 theory left, all the others Kate Messick had shattered in the best way possible. I love a book I cannot predict the ending. Besides that this book had me all over the place emotionally. I just want to hug Cayden, the stuff he went through from birth to adulthood. Ezra & Xan, I kinda want to smack upside the head sometimes but then they usually redeem themselves pretty well, I do think they should grovel some more. Rowan, I love him, no complaints just appreciation. Quinn, man she is so fricken strong, I'm so proud to see her character development. I will be chomping at the bit until the last book arrives.
