Ghosted in Arkadia

Rate this book
Finding your soulmate is everything. Or so we were taught.

The connection awakens at puberty. A message written in blood on your skin will appear on your soulmate’s body. A bond forged by fate. A promise you’ll never be alone.

But not everyone gets that fairytale. Some are born mateless. Others lose their soulmate to sickness, to violence. The world calls us disposable. We get the jobs no one else wants. The dangerous ones. The deadly ones.

I’m one of them. A police officer in Arkadia. Trained to protect the lucky ones, the ones who found their perfect match.
Then it happened. A message. On my skin. After all these years, I finally had a soulmate.

But he’s not what I imagined. He’s a ghost. A predator. A whisper in the dark with blood on his hands.
And now I don’t know what’s worse—living without a soulmate… or discovering mine is a psychopath.

This book blew my mind. I went into it thinking it was a dark romance with soul mates. This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I thought I knew what was going on just to be wrong. The ending left me needing more. It’s a dark twist on soulmates and mateless. I am so thankful for getting a chance to ARC read this book.

*I was given this as an arc read and this is my honest review* *Also had the release date wrong in my head so im .. quite late. regardless this is my review*

Not at all what I'd expected, granted I am not sure what I expected, but I am also NOT disappointed.

"Ghosted in Arkadia" is a short read and absolutely worth every page. I went into this not remembering the themes but I definitely dont remember science fiction being one of them. starting out I was thinking it was more along the lines of fantasy (think powers or etc) but it turned into an interesting turn into science fiction and fated mates. Some people's mates died before finding them or during the relationship or just plain never found and the other half of the Mated pair is basically ostracized in society. Fated pairs also can communicate from anywhere using their blood written or drawn onto their own skin "sending" it onto their mates body in the same place.

*This dark fantasy probably isn't the darkest but regardless if you are not one who enjoys reading books about the rougher side, dont read this. also probably not if you are squeamish with blood.*

Our main gal is a mate less police officer than one day comes across to find she has a mate finally. He is dark and psycho and does all the (*insert British accent*) naughty actions that she enjoys. Along the way things get a little hairy and she ends up being somewhere telling her that what she believes and knows is true is in fact not true. Not to give too much away, as we go through to towards the end I went from one conclusion I was guessing to switching to another and in the end STILL found out that I was incorrect which doesnt usually happen to me so I was very pleasantly surprised. So happy to hear that there will be more to come in this series, also thought it was a standalone prior to finishing, I cannot wait to continue this story!

Set in a world where you can communicate with your soul mate via writing on yourself with your own blood.

Short read, around 200 pages.

FMC never got contact from her soulmate so she became “Mateless”. The Mateless end up doing all the high risk jobs for the city because… well, no one particularly cares about them. Our girl Kira is a police officer, who has a mouth on her but I found her likable. Not bratty, but just a jaded, bitter 30-something. Until one day, she sees a response from her soulmate on her skin.

Ok, so let me be clear about a few things. I liked the book. I liked the writing. I want more.

BUT This ended on a heavy cliffhanger.

Hopefully there will be a second book because the set up was decent. I’ll read it, if that happens.

POV is only from Kira. Stalking, Soulmates, Somno-variant, “I’ll kill for you.”

Ghosted in Arkadia is written by Kay Wilder.

💜 soulmates
💜 found family
💜 police
💜 mysteries
💜 🌶🌶 spice

Kira has been waiting for so long to see who her soulmate is. But first, she had to have had her first menses. Now that the day has come, she’s excited but also numb. Her parents have not been that great always wrapped up in each other barely laying her attention. And the other kids at school have already experienced this. Will it be what she thought it would be like? Will her soulmate be great? Will they write back right away? Do they live near her?

This was a good book. I wasn’t sure what it was going to be like. But, it really put me on a rollercoaster ride. There was really great world building and character building. The more I read, the more I was pulled into the storyline. There are hints at possible more books and I hope that happens, because I can’t wait to read more about this world.

An interesting and captivating new take on soul mates and what that means. This story has so many twists that I did not see coming that I was on the edge of my seat turning each page. I thought I knew for sure what was in store for Kira and boy was I wrong in the best way.

This story does not shy away from the dark and twisted lives of the people on Arkadia or the judgement of people when they feel there is a minority. This book will take you on a wild ride that had you cheering for a stalker, wishing for a gory ending for characters and questioning your own memory. A stellar read and desperately hoping for more books in this world.

After finishing the book, my first thought was... Wow!! What did I just read!!
I was captivated from the start! I honestly didn't want to stop reading, because I wasn't sure what was going to happen next!
I really don't want to give anything away. So, I'll keep it simple.
It was original and captivating. There was mystery, secrets, danger, and so many twists and turns. It was nothing I expected, and I Loved every bit of it!!!

This book may have just blown my mind, ok, no, maybe it really blew my mind.

At first, it's all sweet and sad, the poor mateless Kira, spending her life alone, nothing but empty, meaningless things to half pie liven up her life.  Then, mind blown, I did not see that twist coming, and I need more, the boys' stories, a full deep dive into this world and all the rotten aspects of it, like now!

This book was truly unique. Set in a world where everyone has a soulmate, the mateless are treated as lesser, as if they are not worth anything. Kira is mateless. A police officer, she has a perfectly mundane life. But then her soulmate starts talking to her and things get complicated. I really loved this book and the characters. I cant wait to see what happens next!

But damn was I sucked into this story needing to know what would happen next for our girl Kira. The whole story keeps you rooting for her and wanting more to happen yet we are stuck on the edge of our seats instead.
