Manifest Destiny book one. By Chris Dinges, Matthew Roberts and Owen Gieni.
This deluxe Hardcover is very well put together and a big boi. It contains the first 24 issues of this Image series. Its a adventure exploration expedition, but not your typical one as it contains many many awesome Monsters. The art is great and the story, action packed, although its also kinda slow at times. The story gets a bit confusing nearing the end but i really enjoyed myself alot with this book ! Cant wait to dive into book Two.
I loved this one. Manifest Destiny is an alternate America that still has Lewis and Clark as explorers but in this world t hey are also monster killers, or what they think are monsters.
Lewis and Clark are terrible and are more than willing to do any horrible thing simply because they are told to by a president and their unwillingness to see others as equals. Lots of horrible death happens in this series but I didn’t mind most of the humans that were killed off, they had it coming. The Fezron storyline was amazing and devastating and really reminds you that you shouldn’t feel any real sympathy for these men because they are bloodthirsty monsters. I will be reading more of this series.
Man, this was just so good. All the aspects of the particular experience comic books give came really well together in this one.
Don't let the first couple chapters fool you - this doesn't go in any clichés, although you almost feel it would. The tone in this so well balanced. There's no jokes, just a certain level of levity from time to time, but it's kept pretty serious - but not grim or depressing.
Nejsem si stále úplně jistý, jestli mi vyhovuje kolik různých monster a jiných nadpřirozených překážek do svého příběhu autor umístil.
I enjoyed the beginning of this book where it felt more reality based. Once they started leaning into the zombie/creature stuff it completely disconnected me from the story.
I wish this didn’t try and be as fantastical as it is and lean more into the exploration aspect.
Dropping after 100 or so pages (can’t tell with no page numbers or issue breaks!!)
I went into this completely cold and was floored by the incredible world created here. Roberts is a great find, clearly inspired by Ryan Ottley But pushing to detailed lush directions. The story is compelling and certainly feels like an epic first half, I only hope the second half lives up to it.
The story reimagines the Lewis & Clark expedition as a secret military mission ordered by President Jefferson to clear the American wilderness of supernatural threats in preparation for westward expansion. What begins as exploration becomes a horrific battle for survival against mutated flora, fauna, & mythical creatures.
I have to say I started this graphic novel intending to read one or two issue, but it turned out to be the most fun and engaging than I thought. Highly recommend.
I really enjoyed the world and story, but had to knock it down to 4/5 because sometimes the more handwritten notes in the story were so small and impossible to read. I can’t imagine reading this issue to issue.
[4.2] Well this was a pleasant surprise. Adventuring to the new world, filled with dangerous encounters and beautiful sights. Sure, it is filled with side questing, so to speak, but it’s consistently well written and interesting. The stakes are high and the characters are well developed and consistent. The art and coloring is beautiful, to top it off. These are creators I will keep an eye on, and I’m looking forward to the 2nd volume this winter
Good series. Interesting concept of a supernatural take on the Lewis and Clark expedition. Deluxe edition is a solid book. And a good deal at the price point
Alternate, fantastical take on historical events with the party battling all manner of strange creatures, but the monsters of the tale are front and centre.
I got the books based on the corp of discovery board game that recently came out. The story and art is excellent and if you like a tale of alternate, maybe, history this is a good one.
