“We’re one soul split between two bodies, fated like constellations to chase each other until the sky collapses and we collide.”
Giselle Cantiano thought that becoming a homicide detective was supposed to give her a way out of the grief haunting her since she was a little girl.
Instead, all she’s found are dead ends and nights filled with endless anger, regrets, and guilt.
But that was before a single mutilated corpse appeared with a message addressed directly to her.
Then came the roses at crime scenes, the photos of herself staring at the cameras, and one gift after another that promises darker things still to come.
And in their wake, one body after another bearing the same chilling message carved into their “To Detective Cantiano.”
Obsessed with chasing monsters, Giselle now finds herself being stalked by one.
Giselle knows that she should let someone else take the case. Someone with less personal stakes than her. But every new corpse is another clue leading her to the only person who might have the answers for her sister’s brutal murder.
And she’ll be damned before she lets that trail go cold again.
But somewhere along their game of cat and mouse, she finds herself developing her own obsession.
And with every step Giselle takes after her stalker deeper into the dark, she’ll slowly realize just how terrifyingly easy it is to blur the line between obsession and love.
And just how much further into darkness she’s willing to fall.
Only for Him is a fast-paced high heat standalone dark stalker romance with a morally gray anti-hero male lead in an unputdownable story where he falls first. Features themes and scenes that may be disturbing to readers. Reader discretion is advised.
It’s not a bad book by any means. It just felt wayyyyy too insta love for me. Basically the moment she saw him, she fell for him. So within the first 30 or so pages, she wanted him. I rather there be more build up.
Decent writing, good şmüt, just got bored with their relationship that it overshadowed the plot.
Giselle Cantiano uses her role as a homicide detective to deal with the grief of losing her sister. So when she finds herself being stalked by a man who acts like her shadow, she finds herself attracted to the intrigue and mystery of her dark man. But the further she chases her stalker, the more twisted the game becomes and she realizes that Roman isn’t just another monster, oh no, he’s a man with secrets, purpose, and an obsession that won’t let her go.
This was definitely a darker story than what I’m used to from Brook Wilder, but it was a pleasant shift in direction. A detective and a stalker, the concept isn’t entirely new but then again Roman is no regular stalker. From the very beginning, the push and pull between Roman and Giselle was crazy intense. Dark, sexy, and downright addictive, when they finally gave in to their little games, girl I had to fan myself cause it was hot. Brook really took her time with the foreplay here, giving us so many moments of touching, teasing, and building tension. That alone is an art to write, and I was impressed by how well it was done.
“It’s all one story; we’re one soul, split between two bodies, fated as constellations to chase each other until the sky collapses and we collide.”
Giselle, oh this girl, I related to all of her inner monologue. Yes, she’s a little unhinged for falling for Roman, but like let’s be honest, none of us could resist him either. She wasn’t some passive victim; she saw Roman for who he really was and wanted him just as much. I loved how she claimed him back, making it clear this wasn’t a one-sided stalker romance. She was just as obsessed and possessive too.
And Roman was pitch black (like seriously) but in the best way. He had all the stalker tendencies we crave in this trope but without the toxic violence or extreme non-con that usually comes with it. What I appreciated most was his openness. From the start, he explained his motivations, his ethical boundaries, and his willingness to trust Giselle. That made him feel three-dimensional, and I found myself hooked on him completely.
Together, they were fire on fire. Both just as crazy, both just as obsessed, and both entirely for each other. Their connection was deeply emotional too especially when Roman uncovered some hard truths that hit him hard.
This romance was hot, but it also stood out for having a plot with purpose. Most stalker romances focus solely on the obsession, but this one gave us so much more. I was engaged from the first page all the way to the end. It pulled at my heartstrings and left me thinking about these characters long after I finished.
“I’ll burn the world down before I let it touch you.”
Brook, you really created something unique and different from your usual style, and I’m truly impressed. Isn’t that what writing is all about? Evolving, taking risks, trying new genres? You nailed it. While I still love my cold-hearted made men who would die for their women, Roman carved out a place of his own. I also enjoyed this as a standalone, but I would love to see Ida, Rosa, and even Dakota get their own stories in the future.
The first book in the Starkov Bratva is so thrilling and alluring. I was very consumed by this dark stalker, he falls first romance. Everything about Roman and Giselle’s story is intriguing.
The passion, the twist and turns, secrets and danger involving Giselle, a detective who works homicide determined to find justice for her sister’s death and tracking a possible serial unaliver and Roman the man watching her, lures her into his corrupt, violent world and is overruled by his obsession with her, has us unable to put this book down. Together these interesting and passionate characters take us on a very suspenseful, captivating, dangerous and enticing journey.
The chemistry between Roman and Giselle is BURNING hot! Every moment of their story keeps us deeply engaged and highly entertained.
Giselle’s relationship with Roman has her questioning right and wrong. Vengeance becomes a lethal weapon and she decides to follow and help Roman to take down corrupt, depraved and powerful men.
So if you’re looking for a book that has a tantalizing game of cat and mouse , an intense attraction and connection, interesting friendships, family drama, and dangerous betrayals, you will be thoroughly and remarkably impressed with Roman and Giselle’s riveting and fascinating romance.
This was an exciting story! I really liked Roman and his obsessive dedication to Giselle.I really loved the cat and mouse feel to the story. Roman didn't just stalk Giselle he infiltrated her life in every way possible. So it's a little deeper and different than your normal stalker romance. I also liked the tie-in with the Bratva and how all of that was mixed in.
Roman was definitely dark and depraved. He handled things his own way, and his obsession with Giselle was no different.I liked how his character was written and how much depth he actually had. He was e surprise for me, and I really enjoyed his chapters.
Giselle was a pleasant character. She had a lot of inner monologs that got a bit repetitive, but I liked how she wasn't afraid stand up to Roman. They had some good banter and plenty of angst together.
The only thing for me was that it was a little too quick with the instant attraction between them. I could understand it from Roman's side because he's a little unhinged, but I thouaht Giselle should have resisted a little more at first. Otherwise, it was an engaging story, and I enjoyed the suspense and the plot of freeing the girls. lwould recommend it!
She’s fighting for justice for her sister—but what happens when the darkness starts to overcome her and the lines between right and wrong begin to blur?
He’s her stalker, leaving love letters in the most unsettling, twisted ways… and yet, a part of her secretly likes it. Talk about speaking someone’s love language.
This is a dark romance through and through—full of tension, push-and-pull, obsession, and desire. The chemistry between them is haunting and intoxicating, and no matter how much they fight it, they’re destined to collide.
Not for the faint of heart, but if you love morally grey characters and a romance that thrives in the shadows, this one will keep you hooked until the very end.
Giselle and Roman's dark, twisted, grisly story grabbed me on page one. It's a powerful tale of mutual obsession, dirty secrets, meaningful murders, vengeance, sorrow, rage and a compromised police investigation. Get ready for stalking that is equal parts violation, desire, exhilaration, possessiveness and devotion. They're on two different sides of the law...or are they? Roman and Giselle's relationship evolves into quite a journey. I received this ARC from the talented writer, Brook Wilder. I'm looking forward to book 2, Only for Her.
Wow!! I didnt expect this to be this dark. But in a good way. The storyline really flowed together. Roman and Gia the vigilantes. I cant wait to read the next book in this series.
I received this as an ARC from Brook and it isn't in her normal wheelhouse; to do standalones and for them to be this level of dark but it is very much mine to read them!
I loved it. How she captured them and their love was the kind of crack I thrive on reading. So, so good.
What a great start to this series. Roman and Giselle are the perfect couple. One is a cop and one is not…but are they on the same side of the law? Deliciously dark! Looking forward to the next book.
