DUDE.

I received an advance copy of AT: Factions

Book 2 of the 'Alone Together' series is another banger from Fitzgerald. This carries on directly from the first book and starts to answer some questions that I had from its predecessor. The author has done a fantastic job of making me absolutely HATE some of the characters (don't worry. You're not supposed to like them) and the creep factor is way high. There was a lot of action, violence, gore and high stakes, which kept me racing through the pages.

I have so many more questions about the infected, as we learned so many new things about their behaviour and I cannot wait for the next installment in this series. Bravo man.

The way the first book ended, I couldn’t stop myself from diving into the second. The first book set up a situation I knew was going to cause the protagonists a lot of strife. And I wasn’t wrong

This book dives further into the issues a group of people has once their world has ended. People are scared. People make deadly mistakes. Deadly people face deadlier people.

The characters we got to know in the first book are solidified by the decisions they have to make in the second. The characters feel real, representing many of the personalities you might find amid a group of survivors.

This book keeps its foot on the gas as the survivors deal with one issue after another. The excitement and stress I felt was like no other book I’ve experienced in a while.

The writing is well-done, to the point without being boring and lingers in the right places.

To say I’m obsessed with this series is an understatement. I cannot wait for book 3 and I’m so excited there are many more to come. I’ve come to love and care about a lot of characters, and hate many others.

The zombies are complex, which is another storyline I’m interested in following. There’s more to them than just mindless creatures.

If you’re a fan of zombie tales, survivor stories, or series that grab you in their clutches and run away with your heart, read this NOW!

Picking up where ALONE TOGETHER left off, in ALONE TOGETHER:FACTIONS the losses, the gains,
and the logistical nightmares of dealing with a mass infection of flesh-eating "zombies"
in a world without order intensifies dramatically. If finding food and safe shelter for
hundreds were not the only problems, dissension rises within the refugee population, as
the inevitable demagogue appears. To complicate matters further, the anonymous enemy from
the first book shows itself and must be dealt with. Yet there are other challenges created
by the "virus" that are only beginning to be hinted at. These books do a great job at nailing
down the human condition under the stress of catastrophe, and the lengths some will go to to capitalize off misery. There's never a moment to just feel safe.

The ALONE TOGETHER series is fast-paced, and, though heavily focused on the military men from
the Florida Guard, being in their heads personalizes the hard decisions and the losses. In that respect, this series is more akin to ALIENS than THE WALKING DEAD. Get in on it now, because "it is what it is."

So Book two of the Alone Together series is a perfect sequel. I feel like if you just combine the first and second book there is no tone difference if that makes sense (I hate when the second book feels like a completely different story or the style changes with no good reason.). The first book was stressful but this was even more stressful. The author really makes the characters come to life and you care about what happens to them. Some I hate, some I love. Big warning, don't get attached to anyone!!! No one is safe!

What I love about this series is that the infected is unique and still scary as heck. You can't predict what is going to happen next. A lot of questions from the first book is answered but I have a whole lot new questions especially about the infected and about the factions!

One great and annoying thing is the regular people in this story, it is so real. If there was a zombie apocalypse, this is exactly how people would behave and do! Like dude, you are surviving zombies and you still want to push your own agendas risking supplies and survival???!!! Selfish!! The threat of zombies and HUMANS is the worst feeling, because you aren’t safe, every chapter there is dread.

If Hawkins dies we riot!

-I was fortunate enough to read this as an ARC-

The action picks up right where book 1 left off. We get the development of our favorite side characters, and we get to see what that last chapter was all about in book 1.

This series hits all the hallmarks of what you want a "zombie" story to be, without feeling tired and tried. The infected are smart, and evolving at a rapid pace that makes you more concerned about how the series will unravel. The antagonists are memorable, the protagonists are likeable while still feeling alive and real.

From BookTubers who reviewed book 1, I agree you don't feel like any of the decisions are "dumb" from the cast. It's refreshing the characters make rational decisions, even if they aren't the right ones.
