Trauma doesn’t go away just because you found love; it sticks in your blood like a parasite you’ll always have to live with.

I have desired her for years, always protecting her from afar, and stealing the voices of those who harmed us—silencing their cruel words forever.

Driven by jealousy, I tear down walls until I find her, our love a haunting fixation that consumes my thoughts.

When her façade cracks, I find my soul connected to someone just as unhinged as I.

Will we see past our deep-seated insecurities, or will we burn the world to the ground first with our obsessions?

If you’ve never read a Marla York book… a question, why not? If you like serious unhinged, gruesome, horror reads then again why have you not read these 💀

Our FMC Scarlett is just as psychotic as her lost/found love, together they make an excellent team. In The horror Within they both come into their element, along with the help of Billy the also equally as unhinged owner (you’d need to read Savage Keepsakes but it’s not essential for this story.) What happens in this house of horrors should most definitely stay there 😈🤡 We do get a lot of spice in this one and their obsession with one another works well.

"𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙢𝙮 𝙘𝙡𝙤𝙬𝙣. 𝙋𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙣'𝙩 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙛**𝙘𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙝𝙪𝙧𝙩 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙙𝙨. 𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙞𝙩, 𝙅𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙖?"

I absolutely loved the fact Marla let some of her readers ‘take part’ in this read…in name only mind 🤣 though I think most ended up as part of the exhibit, I say that tongue in cheek! I really do enjoy reading Marla’s books they have that slightly manic touch that seems to appeal to me, I make no apologies. Her descriptive writing just keeps you fused to the pages. A quick read, so if you like crazy, deranged stories then check her books out 🖤

This was unhinged as F*CK.
It's a very dark erotic horror novella, where the stalking and serial killing is the light fluffy side of things.
I liked that both of the MC's can go completely Psycho and are extremely protective of each other. This takes obsession and devotion to a new level.
Absolutely loved that this featured Billy from savage keepsakes, and how he's evolved into a new business.

🔪"Maybe it's my time to embrace it. Being a good girl never got me anywhere. Maybe it's time to be the villain"

🔪"You touched what's mine, and no one is allowed to put hands on my clown"

Okay, but why do I kinda want to go to this haunted house? 👀

A KILLER couple. Both are as fucked up as each other.
Full of gore, murder, and some weird ass taxidermy I'm not sure how I feel about. It's also smutty, so there's lil breaks from all the gore. 🥰

Check your triggers, because this one pretty much has them all. 😅

When the FL is more unhinged & obsessed than the ML, you know it's going to be one hell of a read!

This book got my toes curling, my stomach twists & turning & my spine tingling! Definitely not for the faint of heart. Imagine the gory & gruesome scenes from the SAW movies but make it Dark Romance.

He is obsessed with her, but not as much as she is obsessed with him. He stalks her, & she stalks him. He unalive anyone who dares touch her, & she did the same to anyone who touches him.

It's fast paced, a quick read. Can easily finish in one sitting under 2 hours. I enjoyed this so much even through the flinching 🤣

For fans of horror!

Love this erotic horror novella! Not just because I’m a character in the book. But because Billy is in it! IYKYK! No really, seeing how I go out was really cool. Thank you for putting me in your book!

What I love… how the story twists your mind into making these serial unalivers likeable. You feel for them and their trauma and at times, they do some avenging which is always a bonus. All I did was defend my friend. 😆

Favorite quotes:

"𝙏𝙖𝙡𝙞, 𝙜𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙢𝙚 𝙖 𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙠. 𝙄 𝙨𝙖𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙨𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙥𝙞𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚. 𝙄𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙡𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙜𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙖𝙣 𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙮𝙤𝙪'𝙙 𝙗𝙚 𝙤𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙨."

I am a Libra after all and do flirt with pretty much anything.

The giggle I gaggled.

Thank you for the ARC!

⚠️ Check Your Triggers. Extreme trigger buffet: gore, obsession, stalking, trauma, violence, taxidermy, clowns, and just about every “do not read before bed” warning. Proceed with caution (or glee).

What Did I Just Walk Into?
Ever wonder what would happen if Romeo & Juliet ditched the tragic poetry and decided to stalk, murder, and dismember their way into happily-ever-after? Yeah, me neither—but Marla York sure did, and she served it with extra gore and a sprinkle of spice.

Scarlett and Jackson are not your average dark romance couple. Forget “touch her and die”—here it’s “glance in her direction and I’ll feed you to my clown.” And the best part? She’s just as bad as he is. No meek little heroine here—Scarlett’s obsession is as sharp as his knife collection.

Here’s What Slapped:
Dual stalking. He’s outside her window, she’s outside his—finally, equality in psychopathy. 👏

Spice breaks. Because nothing says romance like taking five after a fresh unaliving. 🔥

Billy’s back. Our favorite unhinged side character from Savage Keepsakes gets promoted to haunted house ringmaster. Pay the entry fee in body parts.

Pasta-making scene. Not the Olive Garden kind. Carb lovers, beware. 🍝😬

What Could’ve Been Better:
The ending could’ve swung harder with the gore hammer, but by that point I was too busy gagging at the taxidermy and laughing at the clown insults to care.

Perfect for Readers Who Love:
Couples therapy but with chainsaws
Saw movies reimagined as date nights
Dark romance where “morally gray” gets yeeted straight into “pitch black”
Haunted houses that smell like bleach and blood
Clowns, but make them possessive and stabby

Quick & Dirty Take:
Hang For Me is deranged, delicious, and disturbingly addictive. It’s a fast read—you’ll devour it in under two hours, mostly because you won’t be able to look away from the carnage. Trauma, gore, obsession, spice, and some questionable DIY projects involving taxidermy.

This book doesn’t tiptoe into darkness—it kicks the door down with a bloody grin. If your idea of romance is “we stalk each other, we kill for each other, and we definitely need to be institutionalized together,” then congratulations—you’ve found your next read.

What the hell did I just read—and why do I want more?! This isn’t a dark romance with a sprinkle of horror. No. This is full-throttle obsession, over the top spice, gore, and madness wrapped in one bloody package.

We’re talking dual stalkers. He stalks her. She stalks him. Two psychos circling each other until it spirals into the kind of chaos you can’t look away from. Both characters are completely unhinged, and the depravity goes to places you won’t believe exist. If you think you’ve read “dark,” think darker.

The story sucked me in from page one— sexy, deranged, brutal, and yet impossible to put down. Watching these two broken monsters claw their way into each other’s worlds was addictive in the worst, best way. Sure, the ending could’ve hit harder, but honestly? The ride was worth every twisted second.

⚠️ Extreme trigger warnings. If you can’t handle gore, obsession, or pitch-black romance - no wait - white noise romance, walk away now. But if you crave the kind of love story that bleeds, breaks, and burns—you need this book in your life.

Make sure u read TWs before u read this book it is gruesome, and seriously unhinged

Jackson's trauma has never gone away, but one thing he has always known is he has always loved Scarlett, and he always protected her from afar, and it's been 7 years since she has seen him. Billy is the owner of the house of horrors called The Horror Within, and he is just as unhinged as Jackson and Billy gave Jackson a job there. Scarlett is Jackson's obsession and undoin. And she feels the same and I love the dangerous dance they have with each other. This book is so good and so unhinged, and I was here for it.

Thank you to the author for allowing me to read Hang with Me.

This is a quick read Erotic Horror following the story of Jackson & Scarlett, an age gap best friends daughter situation.
It’s quick, straight to the point and has a “killer” plot 😏 you grasp what’s about to occur between the pair pretty early on and are taken for one crazy bloody ride!
It’s dark, twisted, deliciously spicy, deals with past trauma & torment, gives you a different kind of HEA, and ticks all the boxes for its genre.

I look forward to reading more from this authors darker side of their writing!

Marla York does such a great job with her deranged characters and the dark, twisted, bloody world they stalk in.
York goes the extra mile with the dark minds of psychos and this book, wow! It went a step further with the gore and crazy!
Oh, and we got a crossover character 😈 I do like a crossover!

What's even cooler, I'm featured as a character which ends up getting on the wrong side of a killer! ... I don't know if that's a good thing but I was pretty syched about it🤘🏻

"I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.” The Horror Within. This is a compelling and unapologetic deep dive into the intersection of psychological horror and dark romance. This novella is a masterclass in crafting a gripping narrative that explores the most twisted aspects of love and trauma.
The story centers on Scarlett, a character emotionally scarred by a history of abandonment and anguish. She believes she doesn't deserve true affection, but her world is upended by the arrival of Jackson. A morally ambiguous and intensely protective figure, he initially watches over her from the shadows before revealing himself. Their unconventional connection blossoms into a dangerously intimate and deeply complex partnership.
The central dynamic between the two protagonists is a whirlwind of obsession and a shared, profound lack of conventional morality. Scarlett and Jackson are both captivatingly broken, their mutual psychosis creating a formidable and captivating team. The setting, a chilling house where they dispense their own brutal brand of justice, serves as the perfect backdrop for their violent and passionate relationship.
York’s writing is visceral and compelling, weaving a narrative that is both graphic and sensuous. The plot unfolds at a rapid pace, packed with bloody scenes and intensely explicit moments that expertly serve the story. The Horror Within is an addictive and memorable read that will leave a lasting impression. It's a testament to York's skill that she can make such a dark and disturbing journey feel so utterly captivating. This novella is a must read for fans of unconventional and chilling dark romance. 💛

😱 Initial Reaction:
HORROR. ICK. Torturous obsessive love! This book had me clutching my chest and side-eyeing every shadow in my house. 💀🕯️

🖤 The Vibe:
Think: a taxidermy fetish house of horrors where bodies don’t just disappear… they’re reimagined into installation art (yes, for “guest use” in some cases 🤯). It’s a grotesque, spine-crawling atmosphere that pushes the limits of love, obsession, and what we even call “human.”

🔥 The Characters – Scarlett & Jackson:

Scarlett: Broken, craving belonging, and convinced she’s unworthy of love after a lifetime of abandonment.
Jackson: Father’s best friend turned stalker… turned “savior”? He murders her parents to claim her, then waits seven years lurking in the shadows, fixing her car, restocking her food, and “disposing” of her lovers 🗑️ (aka taking out the garbage).

When he finally steps out of the dark, Scarlett is ecstatic to recognize someone—anyone. But she finds him thriving in his element at the House of Flesh (and skin… need more wallpaper? 🫣). From there, their romance spirals into an unhinged, intoxicating, and bloody partnership.

💭 My Take:
This is the kind of book you can’t unread. It’s disturbing, messy, obsessive—and honestly, that’s what makes it unforgettable. It shocks, it horrifies, and it dares you to keep turning the page even as your stomach flips. 🤢 But for readers who crave dark romance + horror with teeth, this will absolutely deliver.

1.5 pages of trigger warnings (and trust me, they mean it) AND I need to go find Bill's story :)

What. A. Read.

This short dark horror romance novella had everything you need in it. After two chapters I was dubious about how this could be a romance, but when they say romance is dead? Sometimes, they mean literally!

Jackson and Scarlett both have dark, traumatic pasts. This story, although a dark horror, explores themes of healing through trauma, consent, attachment disorders and grounding exercises to help through emotional outbursts.

“No one owes you anything. It doesn’t matter if she was naked. No one touches anyone without them asking.”

Scarlett’s past leaves her feeling unloveable and she believes that everyone will leave in the end.
Jackson’s past leaves him feeling ugly and that he is not worthy of love. Together, albeit through some questionable ways, they heal their traumas and prove that love is available for all, even the broken.

Please be advised, this is very gory and I will not look at a pasta maker the same ever again. I also learned all about the Judas Cradle and how that works 👀

I really enjoyed this read and despite the feeling of nausea, enjoyed the story of Jackson and Scarlett.

“We’d never be able to keep anyone else happy, but we still deserve the love we give. I adore you, my pet, always have and always will.”

Pitch-black erotic horror carved straight from the void.
This book doesn’t ease you in—it shoves you headfirst into the abyss from the very first page. I found myself questioning what I was reading, wondering if I should even keep going. But the deeper I sank, the clearer it became: this story is meant to disarm, disturb, and consume you. And I couldn’t look away.
⚠️ Trigger warnings are not a suggestion—they are survival tools here. Every chapter claws at the boundaries of comfort and morality. This is horror at its rawest, eroticism at its most twisted, and love at its most forbidden.
At the center: an up-and-coming serial killer and the guide she can’t stop orbiting. He’s dangerous, magnetic, and—oh yes—her father’s best friend. Their connection isn’t just taboo, it’s catastrophic. Watching it unfold feels like witnessing a car crash in slow motion—you can’t stop it, and you don’t want to.
Marla York doesn’t write with restraint; she writes with a knife. Every scene cuts, bleeds, and lingers long after the page turns. Hang for Me is not a romance wrapped in darkness—it’s darkness wrapped in desire, a story that strips you bare and dares you to keep reading.
Disturbing. Addictive. Unforgivable. And utterly unforgettable.

Entering the mind and life of one serial killer can be traumatic enough for most people. How about 3 that work together and support each others common goals?
Jackson, Billy and Scarlett. Alone Jackson and Billy are all kinds of f*cked up. Together, working separately but with supporting roles, the depravity knows no bounds.
Yet when the wild card, Scarlett, enters the fray, the bodies drop at an exorbitant rate.
Jackson can not get enough of Scarlett and wants to make her his. Scarlett just wants to know what has taken him so long. The answer to that is secrets. Secrets are what have been eating away at Jackson, and he truly believes Scarlett will not love him because of them. But it is 100% accurate that a couple that slays together stays together.
And Billy? As long as Scarlett continues to help build his house of horrors, he's all about supporting their little wild card.

Heed those triggers as this one is dark, dark, dark. Morbidly fascinating. If you like the very dark, macabre, no holds barred stories, this book is for you. It is very well written and I enjoyed every second of it.

"Who has an inherent desire for others to pay for their pain? Punishing people for the life i want? The soul wrenching desperation to be chosen or loved?
My thoughts jumble into a mess of threads, and I have no idea what to expect next. Maybe it's my time to embrace it. Being a good girl never to me anywhere. Maybe it's time to be the villain."

I went into this one blind. And boy was I surprised. But in a good way.

This is the story of Jackson and Scarlett. Their history goes back to when she was a teen and he was her father's best friend. Although this story is set around a literally gory haunted house, it's beautiful seeing two people trying to heal from their terrible pasts. Although things are a little unorthodox (are they ever), I liked seeing the the FMC and MMC figure things out and fall in love and see how much they need each other.

This might not be everyone's cup of tea (mind the trigger warnings, seriously), but I really liked this one. And it's definitely not one to read in a quiet waiting room, if you know what I mean.

I definitely recommend.

Five stars just for the over the top, unhinged factor here.

This novella is crazy. Its laundry list of trigger warnings is neither a lie nor an exaggeration. Read them carefully before diving in!

If you like dark stuff- like, torture/ horror p*rn- then this is for you. Age gap, father’s best friend, masked man, stalking, protective and obsessive MMC, initially sweet but jealous , deranged , and equally possessive FMC, knives, hooks, power tools, cages, bodily fluids, necro-, cages, pet play, taxidermy gone wrong, a haunted house of sexual horrors with a serial deleter proprietor, main characters who get off on subversion, and several explicit, spicy scenes.

If all of the above (and more) is your thing, then read the other works by Marla York. If the above is too much and you want something less unhinged, then check out the works available under the author’s real name, Tanya Lynn. Marla York is her alter ego- a dark, depraved, dirty lass and some of us are here for it.

Hang For Me is a deliciously dark romance with a horror edge that will have you peeking at the page between your finger-covered eyes. This book is definitely dark, so check your trigger warnings. I devoured this book in one sitting, and I am craving more!

The book focuses on Scarlett, a psycho lil number that lost her parents at a young age. Jackson, a family friend, has always had his eye on dear sweet Scarlett. Together, these two are pure chaos. They are both insanely protective and obsessed with each other. This age gap and forbidden romance had me drooling.

Leave it to Marla to leave you wanting a HEA for serial unalivers! LOL! This story is gory and unhinged, and OMG I loved it! Watching these two very broken individuals come together after much trauma made my black little heart pitter-patter!

Thanks to Marla York for gifting me an eARC of Hang For Me. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Dark...Erotic...Unhinged

This is my first book by this author but it won't be the last.

When a serial killer decides to make a whorror house you know it's going to be an experience. Blood, gore, and taxidermied people are the start of the show.

The different floors of the house offer rising depravity. The main floor seems fairly normal as long as you don't look to closely.

Now the main couple in this story knew each other and are reconnected though he never stopped watching and caring for her. The obsession goes both ways. He never expected her to match his depravity or obsession but she was happy to be in his crazy orbit.

I'm fascinated by the house even more than the couple though. I mean that is freaking filled with crazy ideas. If someone is willing to pay for it and you have the means to give it why not.

This book is one giant trigger warnings so be sure you are prepared.

Hang For Me is dark and twisted age gap romance. Jackson has never felt like he belonged, other than when he was with his best friend and his best friend’s daughter, Scarlett. Always having to hide who he truly is, Jackson wears a mask everywhere he goes, unless he is on the hunt. Scarlett did not have a normal childhood, instead it was filled with traumas and nightmares that she can’t escape. The only person she truly feels comfortable with is her father’s best friend, Jackson, who she hasn’t seen since her parents’ funeral. However, Jackson has been stalking Scarlett, to ensure she is safe. One night changes everything when they come face to face with each other. Will Scarlett be able to forgive Jackson when she learns of his secret? Will Jackson be able to accept and handle to person Scarlett becomes? Great short story filled with love, devotion, trauma, betrayal, secrets, truths, and spice!!

Hang for me was a dark, dark romance with an unhinged, masked man, serial killer.
I have never read a Marla York book before so this one surprised me. I like to go into my books blind since I don't have any triggers and I was not prepared for how dark and gruesome this one was, but I sure enjoyed the heck out of this ride!
The story is pretty quick, well written and straight to the point. There isn't a lot of extra fluff, which, honestly, I appreciated! I love when the story is straight to the point but captivating enough to hold my attention the entire way through. The way this story was written, it literally played out like a movie in my head and I forgot that I was even reading. I loved how psychotic and deranged Jackson but I was really surprised by Scarlett.
I can't wait to read more by this author.

I received this book as an arc. Please read the trigger warnings before you dive in, especially if you are new to reading Marla York.

Absolutely loved how unhinged this book was. I may be considered a little weird for this, but I would totally go to this haunted house and be curious haha. I like how Jackson found someone who was just as crazy as he was in Scarlett. They were a match that is for sure. The haunted house that Marla worked up in this book was defiantly different from what I have read in the past and I was here for it. Scarlett got to add a little flare to it as well when she got jealous. I felt really good for Jackson when he finally built up the courage to show Scarlett his true side and what had happened in the past. I hope you enjoy this read as much as I did.

Thanks Marla for another great read! Look forward to the next!
