This book was mind blowing! It was clever, twisted, and shocking. There were times I thought I had figured things out, but I couldn't have predicted the path the story took. I enjoyed how the plot kept me guessing and intrigued. I was surprised by the conclusion and mesmerized as secrets were revealed. I look forward to reading future thrillers by this author. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy.

What Have You Done by Nicole Trope – 4 stars

You know that moment when you pick up a thriller and within ten pages you’re already side-eyeing every single character? That was me with What Have You Done. Nicole Trope wastes no time setting the stage: quiet suburban street, pearl-clutching neighbors, two stretchers, and Juliet—the supposedly dutiful daughter—being hauled off in handcuffs. Everyone’s whispering “we always knew there was something off about her.” Classic suburban scandal vibes. Delicious.

The Cordells looked like the perfect family from the outside—picture frames, flowers on the table, shiny smiles. But of course, this is a Nicole Trope novel, which means perfection lasts about three pages before we’re knee-deep in secrets, lies, and someone’s probably about to have a very bad day.

Here’s the thing: was the book see-through at times? Yes. I clocked a few twists early and felt very Sherlock Holmes about it. But did I care? Not one bit. Because the ride itself was entertaining as hell. Trope paces her stories like she’s dangling you over a cliff by your fingertips—every chapter ends with just enough of a tease that you have to keep going. Next thing I knew, I’d inhaled the whole thing in under 24 hours.

Juliet as a character is a perfect storm of “is she a victim, or is she playing us all?” and I loved wobbling back and forth between sympathy and suspicion. And the family dynamic? A masterclass in dysfunction. Trope doesn’t just dump drama on you—she peels it back slowly, one nasty little layer at a time, until suddenly you’re staring at the mess thinking, ah, so that’s what was festering under all those picture-perfect smiles.

Is it groundbreaking? No. Is it a flawless, twist-you-didn’t-see-coming kind of thriller? Also no. But is it a fun, bingeable popcorn read with juicy drama and enough tension to keep you locked in your seat? Absolutely.

What Have You Done is psychological thriller comfort food. Predictable in places, yes—but also compulsively readable, juicy enough to keep you entertained, and just the right level of dark to scratch that “domestic suspense” itch. Four stars, and I’d happily devour another Trope novel the next time I want a one-sitting thriller binge.

Thank you Netgalley, Bookouture and Nicole Trope for the ARC. all opinions are my own

Not my favorite book by this author but still a good thriller. A little predictable though as I figured out the twist as soon as we switched to Lacey's POV.

A perfect family...a terrible secret...

"What have you done?"

The words echo throughout the quiet suburban street as 21 year old Juliet is lead from the home she shares with her parents in handcuffs. Neighbours shake their heads in disbelief while others allude to knowing that she wasn't "quiet right" after her time away in "that place" - as if just mentioning it will somehow taint them by association. But all of them, whilst divided in their opinions, have their phones out capturing every moment of Juliet's parade from the house to the police car, each posturing that "they just won't believe this"!

Juliet is returned to the psychiatric facility, St Augustines, she was discharged from just three months before after attempting to take her own life. It was believed that she would recover in the loving arms of her family but the woman who returns is a shell of the one who left just months before. Her accusations of abuse fall on deaf ears as do her claims that "Adam promised to come back for me. He promised".

Juliet had studied ballet after falling in love with it during her first class as a child. She went on to become the female lead accompanied by her then boyfriend Benji as the male lead. But a tragic accident during rehearsal left her with an injury which would mean she would never dance again. Her life was over. Dancing was all she wanted to do and now that was cruelly taken from her. Juliet could see no way out and tried to end it all one night. Thus resulting in her stay at St Augustines.

It was during her therapy with psychiatrist Dr Choudry at the facility that Juliet recalled flashbacks of memories of her as a child. Memories of abuse; some vivid, some distant. But the memories are very real and Juliet's world is rock even more by the flashbacks and sudden realisation. She is discharged to the care of her parents albeit reluctantly as she no longer trusts them. She stays in her room and barely eats. She stops her medication, hating the feeling it gives her. She has no idea how to get through the rest of her life.

And then one morning, she meets Adam. Handsome, funny, charming Adam. And he listens to her. Really listens to her. They meet every morning at the coffee shop and walk in the nearby park, Adam sympathising with Juliet's situation. He is her lifeline; the one true constant in her life, though she keeps him secret from her family. She can no longer imagine a life without him. And then, he offers to help her.

But then everything unravels and Juliet finds herself back at St Augustines, her world fallen apart. No one listens to her claims. No one believes her about Adam. But he was real...wasn't he? Suddenly, Juliet isn't so sure anymore. He seemed so real; it all seemed so real. Her memories, the past and what happened. But now they are telling her that she did it all?

"What have you done?"

They keep asking her, probing her - trying to get the truth out of her. But she's told them the truth and they didn't listen. They didn't believe her. Why didn't they? It's not true...is it?

This is the kind of tale that will have you questioning everything. It is dizzying and emotional and incredibly frustrating. So many times I wanted to slap Juliet in the first half of the book that unfolds through her narrative. We get to live Juliet's life alongside her and see the world through her eyes and we believe it along with her. But then I began to doubt her and the reality of the situation. And I wanted to bang her head as I felt mine was being banged against a brick wall.

You will question everything you read. Is anything Juliet tells us real? Or is a figment of her imagination? Is she manipulating us or is she being manipulated? Do her parents really love her or is that just a lie? Or is everything she remembers just one big lie? She needs love, care and support so thank goodness for Adam, her one constant. But is he as he appears? No one knows who he is except Juliet so is he even real? Just as well she has Lacy, her nurse, back in St Augustines who lovingly cares for Juliet.

One thing is clear as you turn the final page of this claustrophobic thriller; that Nicole Trope is the master manipulator here, leading us down various pathways into the dark recesses as we desperately try to work out what's real and what isn't. She may have hoodwinked me for a good part of the story but I was a wake up to her methods and unravelled the tangled web she had woven for us so expertly.

My only complaint is there was one aspect that wasn't clarified in the end regarding the apparent "text and calls" between Adam and Juliet. I cannot say more without spoilers. But I drop a star for the slow and frustrating start that made me want to put it down so many times with Juliet's constant whining and claims that no one believed her. While we didn't know what to believe ourselves, the repetitive whining nature had me pulling my hair and made Juliet hard to like and sympathise with her. But I'm glad I stuck it out because Trope came back at us with full force in the second half that would have knocked this for a 5 star read alternatively.

Truly a thriller that messes with your head in a way that I thought only Alice Feeney and John Marrs could do.

I would like to thank #NicoleTrope, #Netgalley and #Bookouture for an ARC of #WhatHaveYouDone in exchange for an honest review.

What Have You Done by Nicole Trope, when Juliet tried to end her life it was after an accident that caused her her ballet career and she saw no way out but after being sent to the psychiatric hospital Saint Augustine’s she she becomes close with a nurse named Lacey and starts getting better but soon she starts bringing up memories of severe abuse by her parents an accusation that baffles the loving couple. this causes her to have serious distain for her once loving parents who she now sees as liars and abusers… If only they would admit to it. Soon Juliet meets Adam, who soon becomes the only bright spot in Juliet’s life. At first she is hesitant to tell him her past but once she begins to confide her new revalationss he is all in wanting to help her prove it. Soon there is a plan a foot that will put Juliet back in the hospital. her parents are also in the hospital because someone tried to kill them and they’re trying to blame Juliet. At least she has Lacey there to comfort her although Juliet’s prognosis isn’t good. She tells them about Adam a man they find no proof exist but that is just one of the many unexplained things that make Juliet look guilty but did she do it or is someone else behind the scenes planning her doom. let me say I never really read reviews unless it’s those from people I follow but halfway through this book I stopped to come and see the rating and when I saw that it was over four stars I was baffled because I was really wanting to DNF the book so I went and read reviews and everyone was like OMG this book gets so much better blah blah blah and now that I finished it I can say they were absolutely right. Whenever I think of Nicole Trope I always think of the great twisty endings she has for her books and so I guess the lesson is I shouldn’t of doubted her this is a doozy and OMG I absolutely enjoyed it. The end of the book can definitely raise my rating and this one totally did. So so good! #NetGalley, #TheBlindReviewer, #MyHonestReview, #NicoleTrope, #WhatHaveYouDone,

Nicole Trope( this is her real name) completely blew my mind into complete and utter chaos. Reality versus illusion plus twist after twist. Like i said, my brain is still coming down from all of this.

The writing, the characters, everything that was packed into this book and made me feel as if i was a fly on the wall watching, and if a fly had ears, listenening as well.

You want to read this book when it comes out on the 17th.

This fantastic thriller hooked me from the very first page! The prologue immediately sets a chilling, irresistible tone.
I absolutely raced through this novel, needing to know where the author would take me next.
We meet Juliet, a young ballet dancer whose career was cruelly taken away from her.
She is devastated, vulnerable, and deeply troubled, and Nicole Trope uses this fragility to build an incredible amount of tension on every page.
This is the kind of book that will have you questioning everything.
The most brilliant part of this novel is the dizzying emotional journey the author puts you through with Juliet. I pitied her, I empathised with her, I got frustrated with her, I had doubts about her, I rooted for her, and then, yes, I disliked her. In other words, I simply didn't know what to believe.
Is Juliet a master manipulator or is she being manipulated? Do her parents really love her, have they really always loved her?
You'll be asking yourself this at every stage, especially as the few constants in her life come into question. Thank goodness she has Adam, her loving support... but is he? Thank goodness for Lacey, her caring nurse... or does she truly care?
The author is the true master manipulator here, effortlessly taking your mind to all sorts of dark and compelling places as you desperately try to work out what is real and what isn't.
That ending! Just wow! I'm not going to spoil it but it's simply ingenious, with all loose ends tied up as neatly as a tutu wrapped in a bow.
If you love a thriller that messes with your head and keeps you guessing right up to the end, this is for you!
I received an advance copy of this book and this is my own opinion.

I’ve yet to come across a Nicole Trope novel that hasn’t completely pulled me in. With her addictive writing style, compelling premises, and wonderfully flawed characters, she always delivers a gripping, entertaining domestic psychological thriller ride.

What Have You Done? by Nicole Trope followed the seemingly perfect Cordell family whose world shattered when daughter Juliet was found in handcuffs, accused of killing her parents. As neighbors and police struggled to make sense of the tragedy, hidden secrets and long-buried truths about the Cordells began to surface and revealed that their picture-perfect life was far from reality.

Nicole Trope hooked me from the very first page with a chilling premise and sharp pacing. I loved how the story slowly unraveled the Cordell family’s secrets and kept me questioning who to trust, with Juliet’s perspective standing out the most. While a few twists were somewhat predictable and some side characters could have been more developed, Trope’s skilled at creating tension and flawed, fascinating characters. Her writing style once again made for an engaging and entertaining domestic psychological thriller.

Thank you Net Galley and Bookouture for giving me a complimentary ARC in return for my honest review.

“What Have You Done?” by Nicole Trope is a 4-star psychological thriller! The story starts with a bang as two stretchers are wheeled out of a house in a quiet suburban neighborhood. Flashback six weeks to Juliet being released from a mental institution and struggling to navigate a complicated relationship with her parents while trying to build a new relationship with a man she has just met.

This was a tough book for me to review. I didn’t enjoy the first half because there was so much repetition that I contemplated not finishing, but I’m glad I did. The second half had me hooked and I couldn’t stop reading. The story is told through multiple perspectives, and it’s done in a way I really enjoyed, not the typical back-and-forth with each chapter told by a different person. I’ve enjoyed Nicole Trope’s previous books, so I’m looking forward to seeing what she writes next!

Thanks to Bookouture, Nicole Trope, and NetGalley for providing me with the opportunity to read this ARC and share my honest review.

What Have You Done? is a narrative full of intrigue and secrets.
A book that you will get you hooked from the first chapter.

Juliet is taken away by the police.
Her parents are dead.
Why……
You can’t see behind closed doors but someone knows the truth.

What is real and what is not…..
Nicole continues to give her audience clever domestic suburban thrillers.
Her books are twisty, enthralling and will keep you guessing until the final moment.
Fast paced, quick read that packs the thriller punch.

Nothing is as it seems through this entire book. I felt lost through parts of it but then it grabbed me around 60%. Revenge plays a huge part as to how things end up and I was not expecting the twist at the end at all. Looking forward to Nicole’s next book after this one. Nicole Trope opens What Have You Done with a chilling prologue that immediately hooked me. It set the tone for a story steeped in secrets, and from there the narrative cleverly flashes back in time, slowly building up the tension until the threads begin to knot together. The pacing had that sweet spot of a psychological thriller—deliberate enough to let the dread simmer, but quick enough that I never felt bogged down. I found myself flipping pages with a growing sense of unease, always wondering what revelation might lurk around the next corner.

At the center of it all is Juliet, a character who kept me second guessing from start to finish. Was she a victim trapped in circumstances beyond her control, or was she pulling the strings all along? That ambiguity is where the book shines, it forced me to constantly reevaluate what I thought I knew, making for an addictive, unsettling read. Themes of trust, manipulation, and dysfunctional family dynamics ripple throughout the story, reminding me how thin the line between loyalty and betrayal can really be.

Were some of the twists easy to spot? Absolutely. But Trope balances the predictable with the unexpected, and even the ones I guessed didn’t dampen the impact because the ride there was just so compelling. This is domestic suspense at its darkest: disturbing in places, filled with tangled lies, and guaranteed to keep you on edge. What Have You Done doesn’t just tell a story, it plays with your perception, leaving you uneasy, intrigued, and fully invested until the very last page.

There is so much about this book that I loved. You are sucked into the story straight away and I love an author that can do that.
It had you questioning everything you think you know about the characters, initially I felt like Juliet was too whiny, however by the time you have finished the book, you can forgive her for that. I felt irritated bybthe parents as felt they could handle the situation better or show more empathy towards their daughter who was so clearly struggling with mental health but again, by the end of the book, you can see how devasted they must have felt.
I thought I was doing some great detective work at knowing exactly where it was going, and then it twisted it back on you!
It got 4 stars because I felt there were a few areas that didn't make sense or maybe needed to be explained a bit further as it leaves some questions.
I felt the author rounded the story off well and enjoyed her style of writing. I would definately pick up another book by this author.

As a dedicated fan of Nicole Trope’s books this is another that did not disappoint. The author has an innate ability to draft stories with complex layered characters who have flaws, desires and contradictions that work together to provide us with quality domestic psychological thrillers involving family featuring parent and child dynamics along with love and resentment living along side each other. The author digs deep into universal themes such as belonging, betrayal, forgiveness, and generational divides.

This book had me completely engaged throughout, a brilliant family thriller that makes readers feel like they know what is about to happen and then we are thrown a curve ball to completely change this thinking. Exceptionally written ‘What Have You Done’ will have you engrossed as the author takes us into her world. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and highly recommend it to others.

Messy secrets, family drama, and a crime that shocks the entire street.

From the very first chapter, this book pulls you straight into the aftermath of a murder on a quiet Australian suburban street. Juliet, the seemingly dutiful daughter, is marched out in handcuffs while the neighbors whisper behind their curtains. The perfect Cordell family image crumbles in seconds, and suddenly every smile, every gesture, every “perfect” detail feels like it was hiding something darker.

Juliet herself is a fascinating character. At different points I couldn’t decide if she was a victim, a manipulator, or both. That push-and-pull made me question every chapter, which is exactly what I want in a psychological thriller. Add in the tangled family dynamics and you’ve got a story where each reveal makes things worse, not better, like peeling back wallpaper only to find rot underneath.

The Australian setting gave it a sharp, distinct vibe that made it stand out from the usual domestic thrillers. The pacing is addictive, with chapters ending on just the right note to keep you saying “okay, just one more.” Before I knew it, I’d finished the whole book.

This is messy, dramatic, and impossible to look away from. It’s not the kind of thriller that reinvents the genre, but it is the kind that keeps you glued to the page, completely immersed in suburban secrets and betrayals. Perfect if you’re in the mood for a bingeable, dark domestic suspense that delivers juicy drama alongside murder. It is compulsively readable and exactly what I wanted from Nicole Trope.

Thank you Netgalley, Bookouture and Nicole Trope for this wonderful copy. Looking forward for more such💗. All opinions are solely my own.

Mind blown!!!!! This is what a true psychological thriller looks like. I couldn’t tell what was fact or fiction throughout this whole book. This one really got to my head. I don’t know where to start. Let’s talk about Juliet. Wow, she was what made the book fantastic. This character was so well written and fit the story perfectly. On to the story. Once I read the blurb I just knew I had to find out more. I kept thinking what happened to this girl for her to do such a cruel and horrible thing. I knew there was more to it and boy was I right. That brings me to that shocking ending. OMG!!!!! Never would’ve guessed it, not in a million years. I really loved that twisty ending. This is one of this authors best book so far. Speaking of the author, if you haven’t read any of her books then you’re really missing out. She is one of my favorites and so was this book. She never disappoints and always keeps you guessing. I can’t wait to read her next one.

This book is a ride! I completely devoured it, Nicole Trope wasn't no time with any preamble. The book was full tilt the entire time and I could not love it more. There were times that I thought I for sure had it figured out, but let me tell you - I did not. There were some things that I suspected, and others I had zero inkling of. I have read several Nicole Trope books but this is by far my favorite of hers (so far). This is compulsive read that I just couldn't seem to put down. The chapters were short too (which I love) and enabled me to say "one more chapter" far too easily. I love when an author teases with making me wonder what's real and what's not, I was lead down each dark pathway of possibility only to make a sharp left turn each time I thought I was figuring it out. This thriller messes with you head (in the best ways) and truly is Nicole's best read (yet)! I highly recommend checking this book out ASAP for a binge worthy mind twist!

ARC Review:

Thank you so much to the publisher and netgalley for the chance at reading this book, I literally couldn’t put it down.

I absolutely loved the mystery aspect of this story and how I was double guessing myself throughout the majority of the book. I honestly thought it was all in Juliets head. And that plot twist at the end? Amazing!

You can definitely tell the author has some good knowledge on how the brain works. And I love how that tied into the storyline.

This is my first book by this author but won’t be the last and I’ll look forward to picking up more of their books in the future.

Such a quick and easy read and I’d definitely recommend this to anyone that’s wanting to get into thrillers/mystery books.

Thank you again for the chance to read this book 5/5 ⭐️

In the prologue, Trope sets a chilling scene with judgmental neighbors watching as two stretchers are removed from a house, and Juliet screams, "Is that my parents?"
This novel features untrustworthy and unreliable characters, making it hard to decipher truth from delusion. The main character, Juliet, is both sympathetic and suspicious. The premise of this novel is definitely compelling with sharp pacing and perfectly plotted twists.

A decent psychological thriller that didn’t turn out the way I was expecting. I found the beginning quite interesting but then found it a bit slow until the halfway point where it picked up the pace again. I still found the ending a bit unsatisfying though. A decent book that is easy to read.

Another five star novel by Australian author, Nicole Trope.

This book grabbed my attention from the very first page and held it continuously until the very end. So many times I changed my mind about the characters and I didn’t see those twist coming. The plot was unique and I like learning a little more about psychology. It had everything I would expect from a psychological thriller.

This was my first time reading a novel by Nicole Trope, and it certainly won't be the last!

The story follows Juliet, who after a failed suicide attempt, is admitted to a psychiatric hospital. During her time there, she begins to uncover new memories from her childhood that throws her relationship with her parents into turmoil. But with no one willing to believe her, the tension builds - what really happened, and who can be trusted?

I found this to be a quick and engaging read, the kind of book you can easily get absorbed in. The characters are intriguing and the cast isn’t overwhelming, which I really appreciated. While I did find the storyline a little predictable at times, it still held my attention from start to finish.

If you enjoy domestic thrillers with a family drama twist - something along the lines of Freida McFadden’s work - I definitely recommend giving this one a try.

3.5 stars

This started really interesting and then it was a bit slow in the middle. However, once it got going it was very interesting.

Told from multiple points of view it was hard to know who to trust and who to believe. Definitely a story that kept me guessing.

I’ve read several books by this author and I always find her books interesting.

3.5/5. Juliet has been struggling with mental health issues for quite some time. Next thing we know, she is handcuffed and taken away as her parents are carried out of their house on stretchers.
Most of this book takes place in the mental hospital. It’s a challenge to figure out what is going on and what is actually true. This story was wild! Unreliable narrators, death, overdose, childhood trauma, manipulation, and gaslighting. I had a guess about the plot twist but did not completely figure it out, and I was overall shocked by the ending. Everything tied together nicely.

And it's another dnf. 35% in and don't care what happens to Juliet. She is so boring, I wish something traumatic would happen to her, besides being dropped by her ballet partner. And the vacillating between what is real and false memories, I'm so done.
