Gordon Korman is a Canadian author of children's and young adult fiction books. Korman's books have sold more than 30 million copies worldwide over a career spanning four decades and have appeared at number one on The New York Times Best Seller list.
This was a great end to Gordon Korman's DIVE series. In the end, they got some gold. Hooray for them! This was an exellant book and I recommend it to all my friends.
I read these books a while ago, but to this day this is one of the favourite series ever. Gordon Korman wrote the book with incredible detail and cliff ending chapters which made it almost impossible to put down the book. Another reason why I liked this book was because I could relate to it quite a bit as I have been diving before and I could understand the risks they were taking. throughout the series they go through a lot of conflicts, especially underwater. As well as conflicts this book also has quite a bit of mystery which is something that I always enjoy, and leaves me wanting to read more. Another aspect of the book that I quite enjoyed was the fact that the author was able to pack so much interesting excitement and mystery, into a series that was not that long. This shows how sometimes quality can trump quantity, and this is something that I strongly support. To date, this has been one of my favourite series ever, and I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an interesting and exciting adventure through the eyes of young teenagers.
I have read alot of Gordman Korman books, and let me just say that this is one of the best! In the third and final installment of this epic series, we see our characters right were they left off in Book 2, this is good and bad because Book 2 wasn't my favorite but I do like to see the story continuing smoothly right from where it left off. I might reccommend this book to someone who hasn't read any of the "Dive" books, if they are a fan of Gordan Korman but otherwise I wouldn't reccommend it to people who aren't fans of the series.
Dive has been a really good book and the ending tied it up great. It was so well thought out as an adventure book as I really couldn't predict how it would end, like would some someone die or will Star dive again. I have to give props to Gordon Korman for keeping the whole book series great and on my the edge of my seat. I try to predict whats going to happen but he keeps surprising me! I would love to read more book like Gordon Korman's. I would recommend this book series to anyone who likes suspense and adventure.
In 1665 a british vessel named the griffin sank a priceless amout of gold on board. Now , centuries later four kids named Kaz,Dante,Adrianna, and star are trying to raise it up out of the water. They will take the biggest risks of their lives.None of them had good parents so a man named Bandon Vanover took them in
This book was so good!! My book club has different tastes. One of us likes action, one of us likes anything she reads, and the other one likes anything that could happen, realistic and this is a good combination. This books was about the last book in the series, so in any Gordon Korman book it is a cliff hanger and we finally found out the truth about their summer.
Great ending. Nice little twist at the end as to whom was truly responsible for the death of the captain. Kind of knew that Clarence would come to the rescue at some point (was sort of a reoccurring theme). Ending was pretty darn good. This is the kind of ending most books should strive for.
This book was originally published in 2003 and went through a rebranding in 2025, I really love the rebranded covers, but the eBook editions still have the old covers. The old covers are pretty cool with actual photo’s of people scuba diving. According to Goodreads there are 16 editions of the first volume in this series, including editions in English, French, Dutch, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish editions listed. My introduction to Korman’s works was the 39 Clues back in 2009. Since then I have read 64 of his books including this volume. I am over half way thorough his canon, and have completed all the stand alone books and am now just working my way through the remaining series. Not counting omnibus editions I believe that as of the summer of 2025 Korman has published 109 books. With each that I read I am entertained and often challenged, and I am always entertained. I do plan on trying to read them all. My son, who is 17 often, reads these books to me or with me, and he still loves them.
A description of this volume states:
“Sharks, shipwreck, and sunken treasure in this action packed survival series from bestselling and award-winning author Gordon Korman. In 1665, a British vessel named the Griffin sank with a priceless amount of gold on board.
Now, centuries later, four kids are trying to raise the Griffin's treasure from the sea. Kaz, Dante, Adriana, and Star must take the biggest risks of their lives... and discover that they won't be able to trust anybody -- even themselves.”
Another is:
“Gordon Korman's adventurous DIVE trilogy comes to an action-packed conclusion with THE DANGER. The kids have found sunken treasure. The adults want to keep it for themselves. But there's a chance that both will lose it if they don't act fast. A thrilling, shark-infested conclusion to Gordon Korman's underwater trilogy.”
This story is being told in 2 parts. The first is a modern day story and the chapters are numbered with no titles and interspersed are chapters or sections set back in 1665. The dated ones start on August 29th, 1665 and conclude on September 2nd 1665. The first of those begins with:
“07 September 1665 The black wave curled high above the Griffin, and came crashing down on the barque with a roar like a wild beast. Tons of water washed over the streaming deck. As thetim in the air with enough sudden violence that men were hurled off the ship to disappear into the raging sea. Such was the nature of the great storm that pounded His Majesty’s privateer fleet in the autumn of 1665. Young Samuel Higgins was still aboard the Griffin when she righted herself. But this was only because he had been lashed to a bulwark by York, the ship’s barber and medical officer. York had been ordered by Captain James Blade to see to the welfare of the thirteen-year-old cabin boy. The barber took this responsibility seriously. Seamen who disappointed the Griffin’s cruel master often felt the bite of his bone-handled snake whip.”
It is a story in the adventure story with four young divers they are in the Caribbean serving a short term internship as divers for a crew. The four are Kaz, Star, Adriana, and Dante. At the end of the precious volume, a beloved sea captain is dead, sabotage is suspected. One of the kids has the bends and should never dive again. Yet with a man named English, the remaining three make one last ditch effort to get to the treasure and salvage something from all they have been through.
This series is published as three short works, it is also published in an omnibus edition with all three stories in 1 volume. What I like about the shorter versions, is they are great for the classroom, or reluctant readers. This volume is short, it grabs your attention, and draws you in. And the ending leaves you desperate for the next volume. And what a surprise twist at the end! Wow!
This story is an intense read from Korman’s pen. It gets darker than many of Korman’s works.
I still have about 13 books from series left to read to have completed the canon of Korman’s works. I am grateful I finally gave this book and series a read; I look forward to the final volume in the trilogy. It is great read in an exciting series!
A breathtaking end to the Dive trilogy, putting everything at risk for unclaimed treasure.
The story starts right where book two ends. Captain Vanover is still dead, Star is trying to walk again, Cutter and his crew are still after the treasure and Menasce Gerard has a love-hate relationship with the four interns. I enjoyed how this book is taking it slowly to let the reader experience the difficulties and hurdles the interns are facing.
The plot in this book continues from the second book and there isn’t anything new or surprising. The interns are still trying to claim the treasure, even though it’s brought them nothing but trouble so far. The stakes haven’t changed and there’s no new or unexpected variable to help them. That said, I felt the ending was rushed and Captain Vanover’s death was ultimately in vain. Although quite realistic and believable to a certain degree.
Similar to all the other books in this series, the writing doesn’t evoke emotions. I couldn’t sympathize with many characters because their personalities weren’t likable and slightly underdeveloped. There was also very little character growth and I couldn’t understand why the interns were still after the treasure. The last dive was traumatizing and had severe repercussions and yet they wanted to get the treasure before Cutter and his crew. I wish the ambition was different or maybe there was some time between the next dive because it felt too sudden.
I liked Samuel’s story and I think it was a fitting end with a connection to the future with our interns. The very last part of Samuel’s story with the battle confused me slightly and it took me a few rereads to understand how it was possible. In the end, Samuel’s journey wasn’t easy – it was hard and difficult – but he persevered and bided his time until he saw the freedom he so desired.
Overall, this was a good end to the series but it was abrupt and unsatisfying. I would have enjoyed it if each intern’s background was slightly more developed so we could understand their decisions and thoughts more. I felt like I was assuming their personalities based on a few sentences regarding their background and using that to justify their current actions. Nonetheless, Star and Captain Vanover were my favorite characters and even though I couldn’t connect with the writing style I’ll probably still read another book by this author. These books are packed with knowledge and are a great way to introduce new topics to kids.
Title: The Danger Author: Gordon Korman Series: The Dive, 3 Format: paperback Length: 150 pages Rating: 3 stars
Synopsis: The kids have found sunken treasure. The adults want to keep it for themselves. But there's a chance that both will lose it if they don't act fast. A thrilling, shark-infested conclusion to Gordon Korman's underwater trilogy.
Favourite character: Kaz Least favourite character: Star & Dante
Mini-review: A good conclusion. I like the twists with Star and English and the other plot twist at the end that I guessed.
Fan Cast: Bobby "Kaz" Kaczinski - Graham Verchere Star Ling - Madison Hu Dante Lewis - Abraham Attah Adriana Ballantyne - Madison Wolfe Menasce "English" Gérard - Danny John-Jules Marina Kappas - Megan Fox Tad Cutter - Tom Hiddleston Samuel Higgins - Louis Hynes Captain James Blade - Andy Serkis
I've read the complete trilogy and this review is for all of them since it could have been one big book. The books story switches between 1665 and the present time, in the end it will all come together. The diving theme of the books is in my opinion quite unique and the writing is fast paced and explains how (scuba) diving works while keeping a steady pace in the main story. It's a fun and easy read with loads of thrill while you unravel this mystery. What starts out as an internship turns into a thrilling treasure hunt.
Started and ended with a bang, this one. I am glad to report that there were significant attitude developments in the end. I rather got to liking Star, and felt she's a real warrior. English was decidedly more fair minded at last, and the villains were not all I expected. (The bad guy went out in a rather 90s Disney era way). Lots of shark attack, diving for money, finding Dante annoying, and being glad that I do not have the urge to go deep sea diving. It's taught me enough that I care not for the cold, dark world under the waves.
My favorite part was when most of them managed to safely return to the surface with the treasure, except for Marina. My least favorite part was when the kid's claim for the treasure was rejected, and also when it ended up that Marina sabatoged their last dive to look for the treasure, when captain Vanover died.

A befitting end to the series. I was really thrilled when English and the kids teamed up. Also loved the part when Clarence saves the day and Star realises that she can dive.
The funniest part for me was when Kaz is astonished to find that after nearly dying while trying to recover the captain's body, the people were going to bury him in the sea only.
Thank you Gordon Korman

Overall, this trilogy was entertaining and fast-paced. Four smart teenage heroes against a few conniving adults - plus sharks and sunken treasure. What more do you want in a middle-grade book?
