C.D. Gill is the award-winning author of The Freedom's Cry and Against All Odds series. As a midwestern transplant living in the south, she traded the wide-open spaces for more sunshine and warmth year-round. Her insatiable love for travel and exploring new places finds a home in her action-packed fiction where times get hard for the characters but they're never left without hope.
Unfortunately, this is my first book in the Carter Counter-Espionage Unit series so I was somewhat lost at times. However, the core story was riveting and uncomfortable in its plausibility. The cherry on top of the book is the relationship between Elijah and Savannah. Each of them was established and independent in their careers. Elijah knows who he is but recognizes he could be so much more, especially when Savannah approaches him in the opening scene. Their mutual past makes for a solid background in this budding romance but of course life isn’t smooth sailing and Savannah’s job puts her in need of Carter Security. Eventually my frustration with lack of backstory gave way to just enjoying this book. Then the writer put two chapters of the next book at the end of this one…and I’m hooked!
What a fantastic addition to the Carter Counterfeit-Espionage Unit series. I enjoyed Elijah and Savannah's story, their backstory, and the way they and the team worked together to try to bring down an organization of disinformationists. Targeted is a fast-paced, slow-burn, enemies-to-more, Christian romantic suspense read.
