Realm Breaker #4

A Battling of Continents

Rate this book
When the last city of the old world fell, no songs were sung for the men and dwarves who died there.

Only one beast remembered. And it remembered in hunger.

Devastating campaigns have at last prepared Skálda to face her nemesis, the Lord Prince. The ultimate throne beckons....

But her adult Bael is growing ever larger, ever more manipulative and dangerous to control.

Worst of all, the Republic's fears have come true.

The greatest of human mages means to finish a conquest that started forty years ago - and the Betrayer has every intention of purging all dragons to claim the throne Skálda has sacrificed everything for.

But this war proves far deadlier than one mage’s ambitions to rule. A web of political agendas a thousand years in the making will ensure that no rider survives the brutal new warzones.

The Kvael-Akar will have to make an impossible choice—defy Bale's hold on her to save Elondria while there is still time, or give in to the Realm-Breaker's will to make her entirely his... and lay her to ruin.

Whatever she decides, whichever continent burns in the end, she will lose him—or herself.

Jasmine Young is the nobledark fantasy author of over 15 titles to date.

When she was thirteen, she first dreamed of becoming published after devouring Eragon in a few days on Grandma's couch. As a once painfully anxious introvert, her exposure to fantasy started with hiding out in the library with a great book.

Thirteen years later, her tomboy dreams came true.

Today, she is known worldwide as a part time hermit and a full time rogue. She is also the proud mother of three little birds. The happy family currently lounges in Florida.

With a Masters degree from Columbia University, and experience hosting two podcasts and coaching writers of all ages, she was invited in 2022 to speak on stage to inspire and empower the next generation to achieve their dreams.

When she’s not reminiscing about her gaming days or getting lost in old epics like LOTR, Jasmine writes a blend of epic, romantic, dark, and progression fantasy to entertain and empower, especially the underdogs.

Amazing series! Can't wait for the next one!!!

This series as a whole, but especially this book, has been a wonderful, tragic, gritty display of the truth of what hope looks like at its purest point, in the heart of the crucible when it would be easier to just lay down and accept defeat. It's not that the heroine always succeeds. It's that every time she falls, every time she is torn down, the world she knows shatters from under her, something precious is ripped from her over and over, she doesn't give up. She cries, she rages, even acts a bit petty at times, but now matter how hard they try to smother her flames, it just banks them until she bursts free burning hotter than before. She doesn't have all the answers, she isn't perfect and she well and truly screws up.... A lot. But that's what makes her so relatable, so.... Human and real. And she is not the only one. Every character in the book falls in shades of grey. The fights are brutal and vivid, the intrigue and plots are thicker than the layer of whipped cream my 4 year old puts on his pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving. The fact there are twists I don't always anticipate makes me eagerly wait for more, since it's rare stories take me off guard anymore. Even if you think you know, you don't. It's delightful and I would say definitely be mindful of the maturity of readers. Yes it's a dragonrider book, but not one I would have my 11 year old read.... Just yet. Maybe 5 more years or so. Keep doing what you're doing Ms Young and sincerely.... Thank you for the heart and soul you pour into your world that you share with us.

I admit I don’t remember all that happened during this book because of its length and my atrocious memory, but this series is great! The perfect blend of character- and plot-driven fantasy. I just hope I don’t forget everything that happened before the next release! I can’t wait to know what happens next.

Couldn't finish the book

This series started out so promising before going off the rails. The author killed off most of the main characters the reader cared about in the previous installments and the series suffers for it. Even worse, she introduces so many different types of elves that I it became impossible to even track who was who. Having Bark disappear for almost the entire book detracted from the story as well.

Wonderful series! Better than Game of Thrones- or Fourth Wing with many more dragons and much better characters! Very well written- so much so- it just transports you into the book. If (when) you come up for air you’ll wish you never did! Cannot wait for the next book (A Bleeding of Thrones(?)!
Jasmine Young has DELIVERED once again proving herself in the Fantasy Class of Sarah J Mass, Rebecca Young and dare I say JR Tolkein! Great job!!! Well done as always!
If you feel the need to release an unfinished book once again- it would be deeply appreciated! It’s just SO Hard to wait another year… just release each chapter every month! We Kindle readers Got You- and will help in anyway possible! Xoxoxo

I hate myself for continuing to read this

the first book had potential even with the mindnumbing info dumps as the author tries to teach the reader EVERYTHING about her world in a couple chapters instead of letting it emerge slowly as the plot unfolds. Books 2-3 got progressively worse with ridiculous plot changes and the killing off of key characters necessitating the constant introduction of more characters.
When I started these, AU said it was a 4 book series, but now it's 5? I flipped through this entire book grabbing snippets just to get to the end... And now there is no end. I quit. this sucks.

Skálda faces a world on the brink of collapse. As war ignites across Elondria and the Lord Prince ascends toward ultimate power, Skálda must confront the growing darkness within her magical companion Bael, and the crushing weight of her destiny. Torn between saving her homeland and resisting the Realm-Breaker's manipulations, she’s forced to make a choice that could shatter everything she’s fought for. With sweeping battles, emotional stakes, and a finale that tests the bonds of love and loyalty, this epic conclusion delivers a thunderous end to a beloved fantasy saga.

This may be my favorite book in the Realm Breaker series yet. Absolutely captivating - as with all the books in the series, once I start, I can’t put it down. There’s so many plot twists and turns; some you see coming, some hit you out of nowhere, and I’m here for it. It’s so well written, planned, and thought out, it nearly blows my mind. We still don’t know who’s truly good and who’s not - morally grey - totally redefined. I love how Jasmine continually keeps us on our toes and on the edge of our seat. I’m ready for Realm Breaker 5 to continue the saga!

A must series for high fantasy readers

Book 4 continues the story of a female warrior and her dragon.
**** no spoilers****
The world and character development of A Battling of Continents stays true to form.
This series is fantastic!

*The growth of the main characters helps the reader understand how difficult it is to question the path one takes when they've set their course. A fated future is not always easy. Nor is it straight. Emotions can lead better than a strategic plan. *

Brilliant fourth book in the series. Lucky enough to have recently read the previous instalments, when the fifth comes around it’ll need a full reread in readiness!

The pacing was perfect, rarely did anything stand still and there were numerous tense moments that kept the stakes high throughout.

The new lore and world building creates an even bigger world than before where a myriad of stories could be explored.

And the ending, the final revelations, the final character developments leave a real cliff hanger of a kind and open this up for a tense next story.

Realm Breaker Awesomeness

I have to start by commenting Jasmine Young on outstanding writing style. Her books, especially the Realm Breaker books, is such a gripping tale, one live inside each book until the very end and long after you've reached the end, it stays with you. Then starts the waiting period for the next book, which is the worst part of this book series!
All-in-all, one he'll of a story as well as the lady behind the words!
I cannot wait for book 5, then wait again for the next two :-))

Very exciting

I've now read all books in the series and enjoyed each one. Action and adventure galore. Good over eil, etc etc.
Good characters and their development.
Good writing overall.
Except: typos start appearing in book 2 and get worse in each book. I suspect editing is not as comprehensive as more books in a series are written and published. I have noted this in many, many series of books I have read. It's sad. So only 4 stars for this series, in spite of the marvelous story.
Also, cliffhanger - yet another book to finish the story. Read the author's notes.

Realm Breaker

I finished this book, but it was difficult. For the most part, I just feel there was too much going on. Many characters were introduced and woven into the story, but never enough background on them. Characters would have big roles but then would just disappear. I never truly understood what true light was. What happened to Skalda's mother, Matt or Keal? What is the Traust? Who is Aeisor really? What is the story behind the Galandor Brothers? Too much! I don't think I will read the 5th book.

What a ride!

I write this review hours after my time for rest, but no work for me tomorrow so...yeah.
I have become enthralled with the Realm Breaker series. It's not often I wish for the story to continue endlessly.
Jasmine Young has done an amazing job of building an unlikely hero and the internal struggles of such. The battles, both internal and external, are masterfully done.
I sincerely look forward to future volumes and am convinced that this author is one of the great ones that will continue to weave masterpieces into our spirits.

Fantastic!! I was glued to my kindle screen for a whole week reading this! As always, Jasmine continues to write compelling, nuanced characters who you simultaneously hate but also feel deeply for. For fans of High Fantasy, Epic Stories, Game of Thrones, and stories where the good guys ultimately win out! I can’t wait for the next installment and I will be eagerly consuming whatever she gives us next! ❤️

Book four of the Realm Breaker series by Jasmine Young and it absolutely the best book of the series so far! It is incredibly written with solid characters who are engaging. The best part for me is the incredibly brilliant world building that Jasmine naturally weaves beautifully and magically throughout her stories drawing you into them. This book is definitely a page turner and I absolutely highly recommend reading it!

Fairly long, but worth it!

This is an amazing story. The characters almost become real and the story line kind of mimics modern life, in a weird sort o
f way. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy, elves and especially Dragons.
This story also gives us an opportunity to look at our own lives and the situations we face each day in our modern world. What demons or evil are you facing? Meet them head on and thrive.

This was an amazing book! I thought it started off slow, but I quickly changed my thinking. It was just so good. I had some serious worries for a bit when it seemed Bale had just abandoned Skálda. A Battling of Continents was just another great book in the Realm Breaker series. Jasmine Young is such a great story teller and I expect to see many more exciting stories from her.

Absolutely stunning!

One of the richest, amazing epic series I have had the pleasure to discover. My mind has been opened up to the most incredible possibilities of imagination. Jasmine Young is a jewel in the crown of fantasy.
If you have not read one of her books you are missing out...take the plunge into her world, you won't regret it.😀

fantastic

Truly loved this book. Betrayal, dragon versus Phoenix, massive battles, & the FMC & her ‘dragon’ show everyone what they can do. Mild Romance teaser - doubt it will go that way 7 he’ll probably die terribly, but I’m all in on team elf. Can’t wait for the next two books.

Good series, poor editing

I've really enjoyed the realm breaker series, but extremely poor editing of currently 4 books has taken away much of that enjoyment. I kept hoping with each new book that the editing would improve, but it only gets worse. I'm desperately hoping that editing improves in future books, to compliment the good storyline and interesting characters

I love Dragons, Bael is awesome and good. He says he a Realm Breaker, I disagree. May God have mercy on Lhyestrae and Staunnton. They should suffer the way everyone around them has. I do hope Ska'lda and Soren get back together or even her and Rhysaeran, I know he is supposed to marry Vhalentae, but she loved Ska'lda's brother to be with anyone else.

Couldn't read ending

This book is not finished and I cannot get the ending downloaded, nor did it download as the author stated it would in September . I am angry that I invested so much time in this series and will never know how it ends. Unbelievable.

Ahhhhhhhhh I don't think 940+ pages were enough and to leave it on a cliffhanger? Brutal.
I cannot wait to see what kind of trouble Skálda and Bael get into in the next book.

Really ,really great book I really enjoy this book, not that i have not enjoyed all of the Realm Breaker series.
But this one I would say she must be living in that world night and day.
I am really happy this was not the last book in the series.
