One Liner: Quite a bit of drama, but nice
Lake Como has been her life for Jade until her grandmother passes and leaves it to her and her two sisters, whom she didn’t even know existed. Erin and Rosalie arrive in Italy, but Jade is not sure if she can share something that means so much to her with people she has never met. As if this is not enough, her first love, Leo, returns to the city, bringing many memories with him. Jade has to decide if she wants to cling to the past or step towards a new future.
The story comes in Jade and Leo’s third-person POVs.
My Thoughts
Well, the title had Italian… and I’m here, lol.
By the way, this is the first book in a trilogy, but it works as a standalone. I did wonder if all that setting and buildup was just for one book. Happy to report that there will be two more books, one for each sister.
This is both women’s fiction (family drama) and romance. It balances both thanks to the page count (400+). While I wouldn’t have minded if it were a bit shorter, it is pretty decent the way it is.
The setting is wonderful, as it is the main reason I wanted to read the book. Como is a beautiful small town with loads of buildings (I googled) and is a tourist destination. We experience a couple of seasons, too.
The main characters are pretty realistic. In fact, everyone is flawed and acts as people would in their circumstances. That made it easier to read the book. No deliberate villains or way too good heroines. If anything, the FMC has many moments where she definitely doesn’t get high marks, but I could empathize with her almost throughout.
As a second-chance romance, this could have been better, but we do see that they understand each other well enough that they can fall back into a familiar pattern. There isn’t much spice, maybe 0.5ish.
Though the last chapter is titled epilogue, it is literally set in the same week (or maybe 24 hours later), so it is not actually an epilogue. But it brings things together well and gives the story a rounded ending.
That said, this book has a lot of drama, family, friendships, weather, and so on. Things seem to happen and happen and happen before they get better. Some of it could be a little triggering, but it doesn’t get dark.
To summarize, Secrets of the Italian Guesthouse is a pretty decent family drama with a good dose of romance. It talks of second chances, accepting chances, losing loved ones, gaining a new family, and giving each other a fair chance.

I’ve read virtually all of Sue’s books and she is a long time favourite author. A new publisher, Renegade, brings a new trilogy (The Italian Legacy). The first of which introduces us to Pensione Three Sisters in beautiful Lake Como.
This first book features Jade Beretta; given up by her birth parents she has spent all her life at the Pensione living and working with her beloved surviving grandparent, a feisty Scottish woman, Mairead. However upon Mairead’s death Jade is shocked to find she has two (half) sisters, Erin and Rosalie and that the Pensione is to be inherited equally. Devastated by this long held secret and whilst dealing with her grief she has to welcome the two sisters not knowing what their intentions are.
As if that wasn’t enough distress and uncertainty for Jade, her first love and ex boyfriend Leo is back in Como. In the intervening 16 years he has made his own life but now faces his own dramas and problems. He broke Jade’s heart before – can he be trusted not to do the same again?
This is an engaging and emotive story of finding family, (even if you are not sure you want to) and coming to terms with loss and love. The main characters do not get an easy ride and both Jade and Leo face tumultuous and testing times. The stunning location of Lake Como is a wonderful setting and almost becomes a character in its own right.
Jade’s character was both strong and capable but with a vulnerability that she tried to hide. I was completely invested in Jade’s story and so enjoyed my time at the Pensione. Book 2 is to be published in November – ‘Secrets of a Winter Escape

Over the years, I've read a lot of Sue Moorcroft's work and, I have to say, this is one of her best. Plus, it's the start of a trilogy, so reading through and picking up what's key to this novel, or perhaps others in the series, has been fun.
I really enjoyed it, as it’s a wonderful meditation on family, friends and loyalty, with real heart that moved me at times. As ever, it’s full of and adventure, a very keen sense of location (Lake Como has never come across so well on the printed page!) and some nicely nostalgic moments, both for family and long-ago love affairs.
The story is as tight as a spring, the twists and turns perfectly blended in and the whole thing flows smoothly and seamlessly. Jade, the heroine, is very likeable and - given her situation - what might have come across as selfishness from another writer sounds perfectly reasonable (and human) here. Leo was a great Moorcroft hero, all cheekbones, fringe, presence and heart and the raunchy bits were done well. Erin and Rosalie, Jade’s sister, came across well and are nicely set up for the other books in the series. The cast list is rounded out by Leo’s parents and brother, who bring a nice sense of humour to the occasion and Jade’s Gran is a strong presence, even though the story only begins once she’s gone. I could discuss other characters but, to do so, would spoil your enjoyment.
This is a great book, full of heart, humour and drama and I would very much recommend it.

I’ve had the pleasure of reading several of Sue Moorcroft’s books, and this was my favourite so far. It’s an absorbing and rewarding story of family dynamics that kept me guessing as I wondered how on earth Jade, the main character, would cope with everything life threw at her. She’s resilient, sometimes prickly, but relatable and very likeable. I really felt for her as she navigated the complexities of her family and work situation. Leo makes a worthy hero as they reignite their romance, and I could easily believe in their emotional connection.
The Italian setting was convincing and I loved the details that really brought the story to life and enriched the narrative. The secondary characters are rounded and interesting, the stakes keep rising, and I was thoroughly engrossed from start to finish. I couldn’t help feeling that the cartoonish cover doesn’t quite do justice to this thought-provoking, emotionally mature and sensitively-written story.

There are only a few things better than a new book from a favourite author, but a new series from Sue Moorcroft definitely hits those dizzy heights. This time, we are off to Italy as we discover the sights and sounds of Lake Como. Sue never fails to paint vivid images with her words, so imagining the local area is a breeze. Even more so if you follow her on social media, where she shares images from her research trips.
The book opens sixteen years in the past as we discover Jade’s heartbreak at being abandoned by her first love, Leo. This flashback sets the scene for the rest of the story, as we also learn about Jade’s unbreakable bond with her grandmother and the gorgeous guesthouse which they run together.
I immediately took to Jade. Her connection with her grandmother, Mairead, was beautiful and transcended their familial connection, as they were also best friends and business partners. The idea of Jade being born and then raised in Italy by a Scottish grandmother had me imagining her accent and loving the very thought of it. Strong and determined, Jade had everything needed to run the guesthouse after her gran’s death; everything except full control.
Leo was another kettle of fish; yes, he sounded delicious and ticked every box as far as being drop-dead-gorgeous was concerned, but I took a while to warm to him. He’d devastated Jade in the worst way possible by taking her heart only to throw it back in her face. However, as I got to know him, my thoughts shifted as I came to understand his reasons for both leaving and returning. His mother was also Scottish, so there was always going to be an invisible thread connecting him to Jade.
As I would expect, there is a strong supporting cast in this book, and they bring a depth to the story that Sue Moorcroft never fails to generate. They provide Jade with a support system as she navigates her grandmother’s death and then the reality of her changed position at Pensione Three Sisters.
This is a magical trip to the Lombardy region of Italy, the playground of so many celebrities, but we get to see the location through the eyes of the locals. Sue’s diligent research meant that I felt like a local as I imagined the settings, and I could almost smell the garlic and herbs from Anton’s Bistro.
Having been introduced to Jade’s secret sisters, I am already excited to return and learn more about them. The family tensions stemming from their presence were palpable, and I’m already invested in their stories.

A book that slowly draws you in until you feel part of the story. This book took me a bit by surprise. Initially I didn’t feel like I could relate to Jade, I guess part of that was I didn’t know where the storyline was going to go, it seemed almost straight forward; she had a b&b to run and sadly her grandmother passed away. But boy was I wrong. I think I was just as stunned as Jade at the twist that came with the reading of her grandmothers will. Teo sisters she didn’t know about. And then add in a twist of her first love back on the scene after returning to Italy. Things got very interesting, fast.
Both Jade and Leo have been through a lot and we get both view points in the story and see how they navigate all the issues and problems thrown at them. How Jade learns to trust and love her sisters, how she opens her heart to Leo again and meets her mother for the first time. And Leo, how he returns to Italy to his families hotel after a broken relationship and business, to find his ex’s dad completely blindsided them and steals from them; also how he allows his heart to love Jade again and works to earn her trust.
This was a great read, and a great start to a new series that you just know is going to build and build and make your heart so happy.

The pensione sounded like it was in such an idyllic spot and although it was hard work, you could tell Jade found it satisfying. When her grandmother dies, Jade is shocked to be given a letter written by her grandmother in which Mairead reveals that Jade has two half sisters and that they will inherit the guesthouse equally. Her grandmother’s dearest wish was for the sisters to meet and get to know each other. They share the same father but all have different mothers and all had a very different kind of relationship with their father.
One thing I really enjoy about Sue Moorcroft’s writing is that her characters all feel very real. They experience the same kinds of feelings as you and I, and react in ways which are completely understandable. So the meeting of the sisters doesn’t go smoothly as emotions are running high. I could completely understand Jade’s emotions of sadness and shock, alongside some bitterness and perhaps fear. Finding out you had two sisters and that your grandmother had kept them secret from you would have been a shock to anyone. This wasn’t the only shock and surprise that Jade had to contend with over the summer but I’ll let you find out about them yourself. As Jade herself said “this summer is like a book of firsts.”.
Writing about all forms of relationships is something which Sue does so well. We can easily feel the love that Jade felt for her grandmother and her fondness for her grandmother’s friend Sheenagh, both Scotswomen who married Italians and settled in Como. The relationship between Jade and her employees was more akin to friendship and they worked so well as a team. And of course, there is a complicated romance threaded through the story too. Sheenagh’s son Leo and Jade used to be together until he left to explore job opportunities outside of Como. He too is back in Como and sparks fly between the two again. It was very satisfying to read about the ups and downs of their relationship as they got to know each other again and tried to navigate the various challenges they faced throughout the book.

I thoroughly enjoyed spending some time at the Pensione Three Sisters and getting to know the sisters, particularly Jade. Her mother left immediately and her father Giovanni was always a free spirit, drifting here and there, so his parents looked after Jade. After her Nonno died, Jade and her grandmother ran a small four storey guesthouse in Como, Italy with the help of a few staff. Jade always assumed that she would inherit the guesthouse when her grandmother died, as her father (who his mother called Joey) had agreed to relinquish any claim he might have.
However, when her beloved grandmother does die, a distraught Jade discovers that feckless Joey had two other daughters by two different women, her grandmother knew but Joey had forbidden her contacting them. Under Italian law, Jade's two hitherto unknown half-sisters are each entitled to one-third of the guesthouse.
Leo was Jade's first love, his parents run a larger hotel in Como, which they bought from Jade's grandparents. Jade always assumed the two of them would get married and live in Como but Leo felt stifled and wanted to travel, making a name for himself rather than taking over the family business, or working for his parents. Leo spent four years in the UK building up his own hotel with his girlfriend Isabella, until she brought her father Teddy into the business. Since Teddy's arrival Leo has been excluded and overruled two to one so often that in the end, his relationship in ruins, he agreed to let them buy him out and he has returned home to Italy to lick his wounds and figure out what to do next.
Will Jade lose the guesthouse? Will the two old flames rekindle? Will Leo stay in Como?
I have to confess I love Sue Moorcroft's UK-based novels but I am never that enthralled with the ones set overseas. Nevertheless, each time I request an ARC thinking maybe this one will be different. I don't know why I feel so meh about the overseas books ... maybe its that they lack the touch of grit?
Anyway, this was pleasant enough, there were numerous surprises/shocks along the way but overall I was just left with a vague feeling of lovely weather, lovely food, and an inevitable romance that was never in doubt. However, the less cynical will probably love it - recommended for a holiday read (or maybe dead of winter when you fancy reading about an Italian summer).

I have to confess I love Sue Moorcroft's UK-based novels but I am never that enthralled with the ones set overseas. Nevertheless, each time I request an ARC thinking maybe this one will be different. I don't know why I feel so meh about the overseas books ... maybe its that they lack the touch of grit?
Anyway, this was pleasant enough, there were numerous surprises/shocks along the way but overall I was just left with a vague feeling of lovely weather, lovely food, and an inevitable romance that was never in doubt. However, the less cynical will probably love it - recommended for a holiday read (or maybe dead of winter when you fancy reading about an Italian summer).

This one is sert in Italy, on Lake Como, where Jade has inherited a guesthouse, the Pensione Three Sisters, which she ran with her grandmother, who brought her up from babyhood. But with news of her inheritance comes more shocking news - Jade must share it with the two half sisters she never knew existed - Scottish-born Erin, and Cornish Rosalie (the only sister to have been brought up by their feckless father).
To add to Jade's complications, ex-boyfriend Leo has returned to Lake Como after an absence of 16 years. It looks like he's interested in rekindling their relationship, but can she trust him, or anyone, ever again?
This was a lovely story. Told primarily from Jade's point of view, it really gives an insight into her conflicted emotions at all the challenges she is facing. She is a very empathetic character, vulnerable in her grief, but strong when she needs to be. Not at all a damsel in distress.
Her two sisters are equally interesting characters, and I look forward to getting to know them better when the next two books come out.
Leo gets a lot of "airtime", too. It's interesting to see his and Jade's relationship from his perspective, and to follow him through all his challenges, too. As usual, Sue Moorcroft digs deep to get to the heart of her characters' personalities, motivation and emotions, making every story she writes about more than mere romance.
The Secret of the Italian Guesthouse is just as much about the importance of family ties, about forgiveness and about healing, as it is about romance.
Aside from a swift-moving narrative, it's a beautifully descriptive story, too, rich in detail about Lake Como and the lives of the people who live there.
And let's not forget the food and wine ... This is a story for all the senses!
It's a brilliant summer read, with a multi-layered plot, lovely characters and, yes, a perfect love story at its heart.

Oooh I love a new Sue Moorcroft book, especially if it's set in Italy. I think it's my 11th novel of hers.
I've never been to Lake Como but I have been to Lake Garda, and whilst I know they're different places, I did keep imaging this book set on the banks of Garda, accompanied by a glass of white wine, which made it even more beautiful. It's a place I need to go back to.
This is a good 100 pages longer than my preferred book length, and yet it flew by as if it were half the size.
This was delightful from the start. The characters, story, setting - just everything is wonderful.
It's a lot more moving than I expected. I won't go into detail for fear of spoilers but just the relationships - friendship, familial, romantic - were so beautiful that you couldn't help but be swept up in it all.
I don't mind books that have more female characters than male, or books that have more male characters than female, as long as they're good characters. But this has got to be about 90% female, and I really enjoyed that because you got to see all the differences between them and how they all interacted - especially the comparisons between the Italian woman and the British.
I'd be amazed if anyone reads this without a big smile on their face. It has its down moment but overall it is so uplifting.
I know it's not a thriller and so there was no whodunnit moment, but I still tried to work out how it was going to end and came to my own conclusion and....I was partially right. I'll take that.
I prefer her Christmas books but that's because I'm a winter gremlin and hate the hot weather and summer (ironic considering I rea this when it was 33 degrees and I was dying in front of the fan), but this was definitely up there with her best.
I'm looking forward to book number two which I believe is a wintery one so that instantly gets five stars from me.

Secrets of the Italian Guesthouse was an emotional and uplifting story of second chances, found family and overwhelming resilience. Having never read a Sue Moorcroft book before, this was a great book to start with as it's the first in a brand new series and although I've been in a bit of a reading slump recently I was heavily invested in the story and found myself immersed in the gorgeous setting of Lake Como.
The vivid descriptions of the beautiful city of Como almost made me feel as if I was right there, and looking at a few pictures of the area confirmed that it really is as stunning as Sue describes. I could just imagine Jade strolling through a Piazza and enjoying a coffee at one of the many eateries overlooking the lake.
Jade was an absolutely inspirational woman; she has so much thrown at her but manages to take it all in her stride and stay professional for the guests regardless of the inner turmoil she's experiencing. To cope with losing her beloved Gran and to find out she has to share her inheritance with two sisters she didn't know existed is nothing short of amazing; and she'd be forgiven for crumbling under the pressure with everything else that comes her way, but somehow she manages to keep it together which is nothing short of amazing.
Leo was another amazing character with his own hurdles to overcome as he must make the difficult decision of where his next business venture will take him, while also wondering if his heart belongs in Como. Luckily for Leo he has a loving and welcoming family, with his Mum being a particularly memorable character for me.
Overall this was such an enjoyable story and with a beautiful setting too. The characters were relatable with real human complications and emotions, and all the drama that comes with them. I'm very much looking forward to reading book two and revisiting Como.

Sue Moorcroft is one of my favourite writers, and it’s always a real treat to have one of her books to dive into. A long, hot summer paired with one of her novels is perfection. Her stories may be rooted in romance, but they always offer so much more — rich emotion, real world depth, and settings so vividly drawn that you can almost feel the heat and see the scenery. The landscapes she describes are consistently stunning, and this book is no exception; it made me want to pack a bag and head straight to Italy.

She naturally fell into helping at their guesthouse and always assumed she would one day take it over. It introduces the three sisters, Jade, Erin and Rosalie as they meet following some earth shattering news which will change all their lives. Jade has run the Italian guesthouse alongside her grandmother who has brought her up and following the death of this strong woman, she finds out that her grandmother has been hiding a secret all Jade's life. Because of the Italian laws concerning inheritance, Jade has to share the guesthouse with two sisters she did not know existed. Not surprisingly, Jade struggles to come to terms with all these changes but is desperate to do what her grandmother wanted.
There are other family secrets lurking in the shadows and you sense that both Erin and Rosalie have complicated life stories to tell in future books. For the present, they have to try to get to know each other and decide what they want to do with their inheritance. Her sisters are not the only people Jade has to deal with . The return of her ex, Leo, causes her to rethink a few things where he is concerned. When Jade’s beloved grandmother passes away she is faced with the momentous discovery that she has two younger sisters who she knew absolutely nothing about and not only that but also Erin and Rosalie have inherited a share in the cosy Italian guesthouse which has been home to Jade all her life. Faced with such life changing uncertainty poor Jade has more than enough to worry about however, with an enviable stoicism, and with the occasional nudge, from her friends, she eventually comes round to the idea that she must learn to change and adapt to her new circumstances.
Beautifully written, and wonderfully descriptive, the area around Lake Como comes vibrantly to life, so much so, I feel like I have been on holiday, staying in the rather marvellous Pensióne Three Sisters which is situated in the old part of Como. It’s been such a pleasure to get know not only Jade but also the other lovely characters who have made this story such a joy to read. The place, the people, the atmosphere are all brought to life with such lovely detail that it’s difficult not to fall in love with everything as her friends pull together to help Jade when she feels that her life, as she knew it, is unraveling. Special mention must also go to the rather delicious Leo, Jade’s first love and now suddenly back at his parent’s hotel in Como after an absence of sixteen years.
Secrets of the Italian Guesthouse is an absolute joy from start to finish and is the most perfect summer read. I was sorry when the story ended, but reassured that the second book in this delightful new trilogy will be published in November. Can’t wait!

I love Sue Moorcroft and was excited to be given the opportunity to read her latest book. I wasn’t disappointed as this is another gorgeous read all about love and family.
The setting in the Italian town of Como is stunning and a brilliant backdrop for Jade’s story. For years, she has helped her grandmother run a guest house in the town. Upon her grandmother’s death she is shocked to discover that she has two half sisters and that under Italian inheritance law, she must now share the ownership of the hotel with them.
Sue Moorcroft, like Sarah Morgan excels at portraying family relationships, and I loved seeing the sisters gradually get to know each other. This is primarily Jade’s story but I am definitely looking forward to learning more about Erin and Rosalie in the next two books.
As well as having to unexpectedly share her inheritance, Jade also has to cope with the reappearance of her ex-boyfriend who left her to pursue his career in England years earlier. Seeing the two of them reconnect over glasses of Italian wine and getting to know both families made this a lovely read.

Sue Moorcroft, like Sarah Morgan excels at portraying family relationships, and I loved seeing the sisters gradually get to know each other. This is primarily Jade’s story but I am definitely looking forward to learning more about Erin and Rosalie in the next two books.
As well as having to unexpectedly share her inheritance, Jade also has to cope with the reappearance of her ex-boyfriend who left her to pursue his career in England years earlier. Seeing the two of them reconnect over glasses of Italian wine and getting to know both families made this a lovely read.
After loving the Skye Sisters trilogy, I am really looking forward to reading this next series about sisters. Thank you as always to Net Galley and the publishers, Quercus Books, for providing this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Secrets of the Italian Guesthouse is the first book in The Italian Legacy series. An entertaining read with some charming characters. A wonderful setting and a lovely second chance romance. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

This is an amazing first book in the series, and I can't wait to dive into more from this author and these captivating characters. The series is sure to revolve around the enchanting Pensione Three Sisters guesthouse on the stunning shores of Lake Como, Italy.
Main Characters:
Jade: The determined main character, raised by her grandmother, who skillfully manages the day-to-day operations of the guesthouse.
Erin & Rosalie:** Jade's long-lost sisters, who arrive in Italy to claim their rightful stake in the inheritance.
Leo: Jade's first love, whose unexpected return challenges her to confront her past and reimagine her future.
Throughout the story, Jade learns to establish firm personal boundaries, adapt to her new circumstances, and decide if she can truly embrace both her newfound family members and an old flame. I do love a Sue Moorcroft book and Secrets of the Italian guesthouse is a delightfully enjoyable read, based in Italy around lake Como, with breathtaking scenery, gorgeous food and wonderfully described accommodation, it’s hard not to fall in love with the place and its characters.
Jade lives at pensione three sisters with her grandmother who has raised her since a baby as her parents decided child rearing wasn’t for them! They work well as a team running the business, enjoying each other’s company and socialising with friends and neighbours.
When Jades beloved grandmother dies her will sends a massive shock through Jades existence, which totally makes her question everything that has gone before and the secrets of the past that were kept from her, however with time, maturity and forgiveness jade accepts her new life and the additional family members that she has acquired and in doing so becomes happier more fulfilled and ready to take the next steps for the business and her own love life with the deliciously described Leo an old flame from the past!
Such a lovely read full of love forgiveness and second chance’s, one I would highly recommend

Secrets of the Italian Guesthouse by Sue Moorcroft is an incredibly heartwarming novel about starting afresh and finding love at the stunning Lake Como. The moment I opened the book, the beautiful Italian surroundings took me right away with the wonderful guesthouse, its cobblestone streets, and the family revelations that were to be made.
The main character, Jade, is someone that I could relate to emotionally since she is dealing with her grief while at the same time realizing that she has two more sisters that she never knew existed. Seeing how the three sisters deal with this complicated new situation was quite realistic and moving, and there were many heartwarming moments throughout the book.

The first book in a new series from an author whose every book is a total delight - and this is a tremendously engaging story, as always, but the setting, and the way she brought it so vividly to life, was stunning. It’s such a lovely destination, but so well researched and captured that I felt as if I was accompanying her characters as they walked around lovely Como, called in at the cafes, walked from one hotel to the other, took in the sights - real attention to the small detail, worth every moment of the research trips she often shares on her social media.
Sixteen years ago, Leo broke Jade’s heart when he left her behind - but, running the place with her much loved Scottish grandmother Mairead after being abandoned by her mother (the only parent she knew), their cosy Como guesthouse has flourished. After Mairead’s death, it’s business as usual as Jade deals with her grief - until she finds that the guesthouse she expected to inherit is to be shared with two formerly unknown half-sisters. And Leo’s back - so as well as having to navigate new family relationships she never expected, her former relationship needs to be managed too, as she finds she’s as attracted to him as she ever was.
I really took Jade to my heart - she’s such a sympathetic character, and I really felt for her as she tried to handle a situation she never expected. And how about Leo? Well, he certainly has a few difficult issues to manage too - but it doesn’t stop him offering her his support when she really needs it. And if they can get past the hurt and loss of trust he caused when he walked away the last time - hopefully, he’s not the same person any more. Those sisters though - when they turn up in Como, I felt every bit as wary as Jade did.
The supporting cast is really strong - I particularly enjoyed the friendships (across the generations), and the way the community pulled together. And there are certainly moments when the new and still tentative relationships are severely tested - with a few unexpected twists and turns, and some moments of particularly well-written drama.
I’m so delighted this is the first book in a new series - such an engaging story, beautifully told, and I’m dying to find out more about those sisters! Very much recommended - I loved it.

What a fabulous start to a new contemporary series by Sue Moorcroft! I was instantly whisked away to a wonderful destination I’ve never visited but now long to experience. The guest house itself sounded like the perfect place to spend a holiday – full of charm, small enough to be cozy, yet elegant and with a historical feel to it. Definitely my favourite kind of hotel. I found the heroine Jade to be an extremely sympathetic character and immediately empathised with her situation. She’s so strong coping with everything life throws at her while the reader is hoping she’ll get the help and support she deserves. Finding out you have two half-sisters you didn’t know existed, while simultaneously dealing with devastating grief, that would be a tremendous shock for anyone. Then to realise that you have to share your inheritance with these unknown sisters as well – that’s not an easy thing to handle. As for the hero Leo – well what’s not to like about tall, dark, handsome and half Italian? And he can cook! I absolutely loved this story and I’m now looking forward to finding out what happens to the other sisters. Really can’t wait for the next instalment!

Sue Moorcroft always delivers and this is no exception. Jade runs the family guesthouse with her beloved gran who along with her nonno brought her up. When her gran dies she is left to run the guesthouse on her own but gran has also left a bombshell. It turns out that she has two sisters that she never knew existed and the guesthouse has been left equally to the three of them. As well as all this going on Jade’s first love Leo is back in Lake Como. As the story unfolds we follow Jade’s journey through meeting and learning more about her new found family, how their relationship develops and how she reconnects with Leo. Although there is a lot going on in this it all flows really well. We find out what has happened in Leo’s life and also what brought him back to Lake Como. I really love how the interactions between the characters is written, how the relationships are explored and the real sense of family, friends and how secrets can’t stay hidden forever. A gorgeous and beautifully written story that is romantic but with drama, twists and turns and the perfect Italian summer escapist read

Secrets of the Italian Guesthouse by Sue Moorcroft is the first book in a trilogy and centres around Jade Peretta, who was raised by her paternal grandparents after her birth parents gave her up. When her grandmother dies, she finds out that she is not alone in the world, because she has two younger half sisters, Erin and Rosalie, who will each inherit a third of the guesthouse Jade has been running with her grandmother since she was young. It was a massive shock, but she also had to contend with the return of her ex-boyfriend Leo, who broke her heart and left her and Como 16 years earlier.
I loved Sue Moorcroft’s Skye Sisters trilogy and I think this trilogy is shaping up into an interesting series. I adore the location on Lake Como. It is the second book set on Lake Como that I have read this summer, and this book has definitely jumped it up my travel bucket list! The guesthouse sounded gorgeous, homely and welcoming.
As with all books by this author the characters are all beautifully flawed in some way, exactly like real life. I am really looking forward to finding out more about the sisters and watching their bonds grow as the trilogy progresses.

Whenever I read a book by Sue Moorcroft I am instantly drawn into the world that she creates, and never want to leave. She has a wonderful talent for descriptive, vivid background, and extremely likeable characters who come to life during the course of the story. She’s also not afraid to tackle darker issues, which I love. Secrets of the Italian Guesthouse is set on the shores of Lake Como and is about Jade Beretta and the Three Sisters Pensione, a lovely guesthouse. Jade has had an unconventional upbringing, being raised by her grandparents, and not knowing her parents. As the story unfolds, many secrets come to light, directly affecting Jade and her lovely life in Como. I was thoroughly absorbed by this lovely book, just couldn’t put it down, and it really touched my heart. I loved the whole concept of the book, and can’t wait for the next one! A beautiful splash of summer sun! Highly recommended.

A beautiful story of grief, hidden family secrets, a grandmother’s love and the importance of community, set in the beautiful Italian backdrop of Lake Como. Sue’s descriptive writing style combined with the English heatwave I’m currently experiencing really helped me immerse myself in Pensione Three Sisters and it’s surroundings.
I adored Jade and he grandmother’s relationship and their shared determination and fierce independence (was nice to see this soften in Jade as the story went on). And the other characters all felt carefully considered, their relationships believable and all valued additions to the story.
Perfect as a standalone, but genuinely thrilled to hear that it’s the first in a trilogy. There is just the right amount of intrigue and unanswered questions that will see me devour the next two books.
