Bass player Joe Fox is the calm one of the band. He’s the one that sorts out everyone and you think he must be totally together himself. But he’s not. He actually feels invisible.
I think seeing West and Blair getting a HEA makes Joe start to think that maybe he could have more, that special person. He does come across as a softer character than west, more the romantic than heavy rocker.
Obviously the course of true love never runs smooth especially when you meet a troubled girl like Alexis, who just keeps pushing you away!
A complete story told by the mistress of short stories, that are actually worth reading, Amity Cross.
Unbearable
Sasha is the band's temporary manager. She has spent years crushing secretly on Mick and has watched Mick walk away with a different woman on his arm every night. She longs to be on his arm but he really is such a man-whore. He's leading the typical rock n roll lifestyle. She should be happy, having everything she could dream of, but there's only one man she's dreaming of and he hasn't even acknowledged her existence outside of work!
But when he does, he is like a giant wrecking ball!! He really hasn't got a clue what makes a woman tick although in fairness, Sasha isn't making things easy for him!!
Unstoppable
So this is the last book in the Affliction series. This final part was about my namesake, Rob the drummer.
I loved how each of the last 3 books was about a different band member. I could quite happily have read 3 books of each member.
Ms Cross has a talent for writing tortured souls who managed to put their demons to rest and look forward to a future. She can write a sizzling sex scene and as this is a series about a band, obviously the sex has been plentiful throughout. But the funny thing is, even though there's plenty of sex in all 6 books, the sex is actually all different with each bloke having a different style! I actually thought that was quite clever to remember that they all have different personalities but they would also all do something slightly different in between the sheets...or up against the wall, or in the tour bus or in the bathroom.....
These books are now in a combined book but to be honest it doesn't matter. Being in 6 books didn't affect the flow of the story.
I fucking loved reading about Affliction, and Amity Cross is is definitely an author I will be following/stalking!
I enjoy this author’s writing style, full of profanity and descriptive sex but never feels superfluous or overdone however I did not connect with any of the couples in the three novellas as much as with Blair and West in Unexpected, despite looking forward to Sasha’s story in particular. The novella is a difficult one to get the right balance with and it all felt too short and a little rushed. I needed more, a complete, detailed story not a fast & furious quickie but a longer discovery session.
Undeniable
Joe Fox is a floater. He’s a coaster on the coffee table of life. He rides the wave spread by the juggernaut of rock ‘n’ roll outfit, Affliction, claiming what he wants and sticking to his limits. On the outside he is the calm inside the hurricane. Underneath the surface he’s struggling against his own brewing category five.
When Affliction goes on a long awaited hiatus, he finds himself alone in more ways than one. What’s a man to do when he’s got plenty to forget and all the time in the world to do it in? Crash into someone beautiful and wild, that’s what.
Someone so wild that they might be able to calm the storm within and awaken something undeniable…
Joe and Jake are best friends who grew up together. With Jake having found Blair, Joe wants that same elusive thing, the connection that completes you. Joe has more privacy and freedom than Blair as he’s not the front man and so when flying back to Australia takes a normal flight with no fuss or fanfare where he meets Alexis. Both are instantly attracted and so follows a delightfully dirty and decadent tryst for 24 hours on an unplanned stopover in Hong Kong. Alexis is an author who writes erotic romance and she researched plenty with Joe, discovering it’s not all imagination but that her words can be reality.
“He reached out and grasped my face, making me look him in the eye and it almost sent me into overdrive. Yeah, I felt it. My nipples tingled, my pussy was convulsing, thighs were clenching, breath was coming fast…all the things I wrote about were leaping off the pages and into the here and now. “I want you and I know you want me, too. It’s not about being cheap or easy.” “You want me?” “Every which way from Sunday.” He’d hardly touched me and shit, he hadn’t even kissed me, and already I was imagining myself underneath him, on top of him…every which way from Sunday.”
Joe lets her walk away at the airport with no contact details and regrets it immediately. He decides he will find her when fate throws her back in his path, however Alexis is dealing with guilt and grief so has closed herself off to relationships due to a tragic event.
“Jake had his wildcat and I had my storm. She was the storm swirling in the opposite direction to mine. Together, we cancelled each other out. Together, there was no storm. I just had to get her to see it.”
This couple complement each other perfectly and Joe fights for what he wants. I loved their banter and the sex was HOT but I was thoroughly enjoying the story and then Wham Bam finished, rushed and nowhere near as good as the lead up. However, I love her writing style as I’ve said and highlighted sections all through the book.
“It was like a drawer full of spoons when all I needed was a knife. Alexis was the f**king knife…”
“Fuck. He thought my mouth was sweet? I just stared at him like Bambi in the middle of a highway about to be splattered by a long haul truck.”
Unbearable
Sasha Montgomery has everything she ever wanted. She’s managing one of the hottest rock bands of the moment, gets paid to travel the world, hangs around hot musicians all day… She’s got everything she ever dreamed of…except Mick Savage.
Mick is the lead guitarist from bad boy rock ‘n’ roll outfit Affliction, and she’s got one hell of a crush on him. For three and a half years Sasha has watched him look at everyone but her. Miserable and shy, the only thing she has to turn to is her work. It was fine when she was just the stage manager – she could deal with that. Now she’s the manager and has to deal with him on a daily basis. Face-to-face. As if her heart couldn’t get any more broken. Mick hasn’t looked at her twice. He hasn’t spoken to her outside of band business. He hasn’t seen her as anything but Affliction’s manager. Watching him from the side-lines is unbearable, but when he finally realises what her feelings are…everything is going to change.
And it might just be for the worse.
This was my most anticipated of the three yet the one I least liked in the end. Sasha is fabulous but Mick is a prick (yeah I know I’m rhyming!) and needs to be shot. I really dislike the fact he hasn’t noticed her in three and a half years, that’s on me and personal preference but I’d like to think if he’s the one he would feel some type of connection or attraction not that she was invisible. Some will argue that she says;
“To live my dream, I had to sacrifice my heart.”
So that makes it all ok, but it didn’t work for me.
Sasha is feisty and sassy so she’s a good match for him but by the time he does finally does SEE her she runs from him and the chase begins. He gets the girl and the HEA but I was not connected to him as a character, although I adored Sasha.
Unstoppable
Rob Hancock was never the saviour type. When he saves Lilly Hunter from a nasty situation, he’s about to get more than he bargained for. Now he’s her saviour and will do whatever it takes to make her safe. And when push comes to shove, he’ll be Unstoppable in his desire to deliver her from her demons.
He’s been such a background figure up to now that I was surprised how much I liked Rob and just how perfect Lilly is for him. Whilst they meet in an awful situation, they are drawn immediately to each other and this was a beautiful one to end the series with. Lilly and Rob have a rocky road and while Rob may not see himself as her saviour he is, but in return Lilly feeds his heart and soul. She cares for him and loves him warts and all, he’s broken and she’s his glue, giving him a sense of worth and belonging. A sweet story with really hot sex and an edge to it that Amity Cross does well.
“I’d never had a friend before, the kind of friend that listened and didn’t judge. The kind of friend that you see in movies and read about in books…I thought those were all made up. There couldn’t be people like that in the world, right? Humanity sucked dick, so why would someone be nice to me just because they thought I was decent? That shit was an urban myth.”
So in conclusion my only complaint apart from ‘Mick the Prick’ is the length of these. I felt a longer story, especially on the first two, would make them as good as Unexpected but it’s a good series and I like the author so will continue to read her.
Well, well come on ladies get yourself another little piece of rock god heaven. This is the conclusion of the Unexpected series and gives us the rest of the guys in the band – Yum!!!! You will love Joe Fox - I know I did, the band member with the ability to melt into the crowd but also to melt your heart – he is fabulous. But can this super sexy man get his one night layover out of his head- yeh I know Blair and West started as a one night fling – and well just look where that ended up- eh! Flirting his arse off during a flight with the super sexy passenger next to him, Joe takes things to the next level when they decide to spend the time they have together in Hong Kong, can his super sexy prediction come true? But parting on first name terms only with no additional plans to see each other again is a recipe for curiosity to kill the cat and I have to say that what follows is simply fabulous. Alexis takes a little getting used to and god forbid I would have nailed her feet to the floor if I was him because he might get his woman but keeping her is who different ball game because getting her to stop running away is a completely different story. Next up came Sasha and Mick, unrequited lust is tough to take especially when the guy you are longing for has women hanging on his every word, but Sasha has been all but oblivious to Mick. This whore of a man is used to having his way with a willing participant or two and then disposing of them like yesterday’s news. And all the while Sasha has kept her feelings hidden. But as the new (acting) manager of the band this just might not be a pretence she can keep up for much longer. So veering the opposite direction she deliberately puts the freeze on Mick and purposely avoids him at all costs. Now Mick may be a little light on social etiquette but he can read women and he might just have pegged this woman right but now that he has noticed her in all her glory, she is on her heels and out of his life… or so she thinks! I loved these two, they were so cool their story is just fabulous. And so to the Rob, the last man standing. The defiant member of the band, the one that has held out long enough because he has plenty going on in is life without a woman to worry about. Life has played hard with Rob, childhood was nothing much to write home about, it was hard to say the least. But he has managed to keep himself to himself and while the other guys in the band are the closest he has ever felt to having a family – he hasn’t exactly been very forthcoming with the details of his past. While deep down he is glad the guys have all found their happy ever afters but it has opened his eyes to the fact that yet again he has no-one. Jealousy rears its ugly head and his insecurities threaten to wash him away but he ends up in the right place at the right time and his future – sees him … Lily sees right through him and he has no desire to let that feeling or her go. Which is a bolt from the blue for this standalone guy – because Rob and relationship have never been bedfellows!! Lily is a closed book, with little desire to share her life with anyone, let alone Rob. She has a past that would have most folk running for the hills and she has no desire to share that with anyone. But this lonely rocker has found what is bandmates have and he wants it for himself, he wants his woman and he is adamant that together they can knit the fragile pieces of their pasts into the cloak of unity for their future. I loved the fact that these two broken lonely souls got to find love and happiness with each other because it takes one to know one and they truly got each other, they knew when to push and when to let go, what was worth fighting for and when you walk away. I was just glad that they fought hard for themselves in the end. The superb conclusion to yet another fabulous series by Amity Cross, she has seriously become one of my authors of choice when it comes to feeding my one-click addition!!!
This is Joe and Alexis' story. I really like how this story started. The first meeting on the plane was great and so was the night in Hong Kong. I felt that the story was rushed though. I would have really loved to have more from these two.
Part 5
I love Sasha. She's the temp manager for Affliction. She was the stage manager, but when Furlough messed everything up, the band asked asked her to step up. And that she did. Mick is the man-whore lead guitarist. Sasha has had a crush on him for the past 3.5 years. She's in love with him. What will happen when he finds out about her crush on him and he actually really sees her? This is their story and I think it's my favorite, still have one more to go. I loved the scene in the lobby of the label's office.
Part 6
Ok, I know that I said Mick and Sasha's story was my favorite, but that has changed now. Rob and Lilly are now my favorites. I'm glad that the series ended on their story. Rob has finally been bitten by the love bug that has made its way through the band when he saves Lilly from a mugger. He finally tells everyone about his past. Lilly is on the run but what will happen when what she's running from finally catches up to her?
This is an enjoyable read. I did want more of the stories though. But that happens with novellas, they always leave you wanting more. In this set, we get the stories of the other guys in the band.
This book follows on from the brilliant standalone 'Unexpected' the story of Blair and West, Unexpected Affliction is three short love stories all really hot and based around 'Affliction' the really hot rock band. The first about Joe Fox from the band who meets Alexis on a plane. The second is about Sasha the band manager and Mick the guitarist. The last is about Rob the drummer, the last one left to find love.
I love Affliction ...if they were real I'm sure I'd have their posters and calendars up ! Great idea to have three short stories all rolled into one book all the relationships are interlinked through the band. These books were just as good as the first book, really gritty, hot, steamy, sexual, rock band romance stories. I love the way these books are written they capture and draw you in and leave you not being able to put them down. I felt the third book about Rob could have easily been a full length novel, really had me on the edge of my seat. I'll certainly be looking for more books by Amity Cross.
This book includes 3 different novellas, each one focusing on another member of the band Affliction. All the events of the story take place in the time the band is working in the studio between tours. I have read them all, but feel like they could be read as stand alones if you wanted to take your time and spread out the stories. Each novella does bring all the previous characters into their stories, but just enough to remember their wonderful stories.
I like how individual their stories are. Each couple meets in different ways and their relationships develop differently. You don't get the same stuff over and over. All the characters are amazing, you really get a good feel for them in a short amount of time.
The last novella, Unstoppable, is definitely my favorite, but I like their type of story. It was more intense and Rob had a history that made relationships more difficult for him to accept. I was routing for he and Lilly to get their HEA.
This set of stories focused on the rest of the members of the band Affliction. Undeniable is Joe and Alexis' story, Unbearable is Sasha and Mick's story, and Unstoppable is Rob & Lilly's story.
Each of these stories is a quick read, but that doesn't mean they aren't satisfying. This set is a blend of Fate bringing two strangers together, and unrequited love finally taking a turn of direction. With the completion of these stories, the entire band has now found their perfect love match.
I love how each story is set up to fit that particular couple, showing that while the band works as a unit, each member is a unique person outside of the group and thus their road to "the one" flows differently. Amity Cross did a wonderful job pulling the reader into each character's lives and watching as they found their path together.
Each of the stories within this set included some comedic moments, a little swooning, and a lot of scorch to even things out.
~*~ Obsessed by Books copy given in exchange for an honest review ~*~
This is a collection of the remaining band members of Affliction which can all be read as stand alones but they do intertwine so I loved them being together as a set.
Each story reveals the individuals pain and hidden secrets, the reasons why the hide behind their rock star image and what drives then to be successful.
The writing continues to be sassy, sexy and emotive and each character gets his chance to shine. Without rehashing the blurb or giving away spoilers each story is a bubble for a band member and how they move past being caught up in a celebrity lifestyle and actually find someone for the person behind the mask of fame. Sometimes it isn't easy...do they all get their happily ever afters?!?!
5 kick ass stars for an amazing catch up with Affliction.
I received a free copy of Unexpected Affliction by Amity Cross for an honest review~
Loved Unexpected Affliction. I had grown to like the band when we met them in Wests book, Unexpected. And now there is like a novella for each on of the guys and how they go about finding and keeping their significant others, even getting a little kinky :) Each part of UA is awesome. I love how each of the band members are so different and the love they find reflects upon that. Each band mates love story is a complete story, you're not left hanging or feeling less than satisfied with how it reads. I can only tell you that if you've read Unexpected you really should grab Unexpected Affliction as well. It will make your whole experience that much greater. Excellent writing as always! 4.5 Stars for this awesome rocker novel that's 3 books in 1!!!
I'm so glad that we got to see the journey of the other band members in this book. Amity Cross delivers another phenomenal panty melting read.
Amity Cross has definitely become one of my go to authors. I love her writing style and the way she manages to make you feel not just the emotions throughout each band members journeys but the sensual desires and raw lust as well. It's like while reading these sex scenes the way she so vividly describes them made me feel like it was happening to me. The tingles down the spine, the goosebumps across your flesh, the heat and throbbing between the legs....... oh yea. You feel it as if it were happening to you.
So warning, have spare panties available. Amity Cross will definitely take you on a journey with these characters and you're in for quite a ride.
You know all those supporting characters i loved in Unexpected, no way but i get to read their stories now!!! Equally as hot as Blair and West, these characters have a lot going on with their stories and women. Issues will be faced, emotions will be pushed to the edge for the characters and yourself, and finally it will all be under a steamy blanket of rock starness! I know that is not a proper word but i do not care - lol. Amity Cross did a great job giving us these novellas of the supporting characters from Unexpected and you will not be disappointed in the stories contained here.
As always Amity doesn't disappoint. Follow the rest of the band, Affliction and their love lives. What happens when the tour manager is fired and the stage manager takes over, will her personal feelings get in the way or will she rise to the occasion. What happens when the bass player falls for an author? Will sparks fly? This is a must read series!!!
