There is a ghost town in the forest behind Maeve's house. In 1881, the entire population of the town of Morton, Michigan vanished beneath a meteor shower. One hundred years later, it is Maeve's mother who vanishes under a sky of falling stars. And Maeve becomes convinced that Morton holds the key to the mystery.
But the road to Morton is long and dangerous, and it's many years before Maeve and her two best friends are old enough to finally make the journey. As high school graduation approaches, they set off into the frozen wilderness in search of answers.
What they find is a town that is far from empty. And as the meteors begin to fall once more over Morton, it's Maeve's turn to face the falling stars.
