In a world reduced to ruins, survival demands more than just strength—it demands transformation.
When a catastrophic electromagnetic pulse (EMP) strikes Earth, modern life ends in an instant. Power grids fail. Communication collapses. Transportation halts. Within hours, the world descends into chaos—and the fragile threads of civilization begin to snap. What follows is a rapid descent into apocalyptic turmoil as society unravels and survival becomes a daily battle.
When the world falls apart, it's not the heroes who rise—it's the unexpected. Marty, a recovering addict, finds purpose in the remnants of a crumbling military, discovering what it truly means to fight—not just for survival, but for redemption. Benny and Becky, inseparable pre-teens suddenly orphaned, must navigate a brutal new reality where trust is scarce and innocence is a liability. And Al, facing a terminal diagnosis, embarks on one final journey—teaming up with Sophie, a young woman desperate to reunite with the family she’s lost.
Each must draw on hidden strengths and confront impossible choices as they face a world that offers no guarantees—only the hope that somewhere in the wreckage, humanity still endures.
Deprived of the technology we depend on daily; the elements of civilization will collapse like dominoes giving rise to a brutal, desperate landscape where people will be forced to make impossible choices. Together, they face a landscape stripped of mercy, where technology is useless, morality is tested, and the fight to stay human may be the hardest challenge of all.
Resetis a raw, riveting journey of resilience, unlikely bonds, and what endures when everything else falls away. From the author ofZombie Fallout and Indian Hill, Reset is a gripping tale of human resilience and connection in a darkly unrecognizable and unforgiving new world!
Reset follows different people/sets of people following a catastrophic worldwide EMP event that leaves society in shambles. We follow an addict, two twelve-year-olds, and a terminally-ill man and the young woman who was sitting next to him when their plane fell out of the sky. They show what happens to society from the moments immediately following the EMP (which came from solar activity, not human-caused) to weeks later when people are fighting each other for meager resources and chaos is the rule of the day.
I really liked how it was written and the variety of characters that we got to experience. It was a bit gritty and depressing, but there was that small thread of hope that kept you going throughout the book. This is Book 1 in a trilogy, and my brother has already announced that the sequel will be the book club pick for next month, so we will see how things develop from here.
Loved the name drops to remind me of whose world we are dwelling in, with an inventive storyline as I have come to expect from Mr. Tufo. I fully enjoyed the characters with quick developments and really look forward to seeing how this series progresses. I am also looking forward to a truly dedicated canine to grace these pages and steal some of the scenes as I have come to expect in your previous books.
This apocalypse is very different from most that I've read. It starts with a CME and various groups trying to get through the sudden change in their world. The characters are interesting and believable. It's fun seeing all of the different strategies the people enjoy. I'm really looking forward to the next one.
I’ve purchased 66 of Mark Tufo’s books, loved them all. This is not one of them. My best guess is AI generated slop. The reviews sure read like AI. And that weak attempt to sell us on this garbage by bringing up a beloved character BT was the first clue. That was not our BT. DON’T waste your money. This book was so slow. Like bleeding to death from a paper cut. I kept flipping ahead praying that something would happen to give me a reason to continue. Editing was good. AI good? I bought the first two books together, hey they said Mark Tufo wrote em. Anyway I’m going to skim read the second book to see if it’s any better. Book #1 was a waste of time and money.
All hail the Audible narrator, Vikas Adam. I swear I had no idea one human being could produce a different voice for what felt like every character. He gave it his all (and then some). I hung onto every word. I still hear his performance in my head sometimes, no cap. One hell of an ending though, my advice is to wait 'til the second book comes out so you can immediately dive in (unless you're the type to construct the characters' stories from what the author left us with)
So far-only in book one-this story seems to be heading into new directions. A hint of sci-fi, government conspiracy, potentially strange creatures lurking and consuming people, maybe a mystical element, and a splash of familiar characters making cameos. Some interesting characters and arcs and looming disaster. It was difficult to put this down once I started it. Looking forward to book two.
There are a few authors whom I can always count on for quality writing with an exciting storyline. Mark Tufo is certainly one of those authors. The multiple, varied perspectives did require a bit of backtracking to refresh what was going on with whom, but it was worth it. This is a great EMP/SHTF book, and I’m excited to see where it goes!
Except for Benny- he’s on my nerves. And I looooove the character callback early on- it made my heart happy.
Aliens are about to get the crap beat out of them by Talbot and BT. Stenzil will have overwatch. It'll be fun watching the groups of main characters come together to fix the alien problem. Name dropping will be fun.
I enjoyed this story and for me it was much more about the characters than it was the plot. Benny was a refreshing change of pace and his dialogue is a treat! A good read.
Really nice start to what feels like the start to a great series. Love the cameos by some of the characters we’ve come to love in other series as well. Looking forward to book 2.
Great read, as much as knew Mike and the gang was not in this book i enjoyed thos book, it was interesting different and interesting cant wait to read the next installment.
I knew I read it before, and relatively recently. It was fine, but not enough to read the second book. Or maybe I will. I dont know. IT will have to be basically free or from the library methinks.
