Hunted Mate: A Dark Wolf Shifter Romance

Rate this book
He hunted me. Then he bred me.

When he tore my panties off and spanked my ass red, it was just a warning... until instinct took over and he pushed me up against the wall, gave me his knot, and bred my virgin body savagely.

Because the feral brute with his belt around my throat isn't just a masked stalker taking what he wants while teaching me what happens to human girls who won't stop looking for werewolves.

He's an alpha shifter taking his mate.

Publisher's  Hunted Mate is the first book in the Stalked Mates series but can be read as a standalone. It includes spankings and rough, intense sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

Well, this was seriously entertaining!

Premise: Nerdy heiress is researching the existence of wolf shifters, and a masked man arrives to… persuade her to stop looking. With a hard banging. 🤭

✅ Smutty erotica that made me feel like a teenager sneakily reading someone else’s book
✅ A surprising amount of plot! (I thought it was just smutty erotica)
✅ Genuinely funny moments of offbeat humour that had me chortling

Loki Renard’s books can get quite spanky, and sometimes it’s a bit much for me, but it really worked in this book.

“You were looking for a monster…and you’ve found one.”

This book wasn’t necessarily bad, but it didn’t click with me the way I had hoped. At only 15 chapters, it still took me three days to finish, which says a lot about how slow and disconnected it felt at times. Other readers may enjoy it more, but for me, the lack of deeper character development and emotional connection made it fall short. I wanted more time to connect with the characters, and for the FMC and MMC to build something beyond surface-level attraction.

“You’re mine…I need you to understand that. Mine.”

There were also a few things I had to overlook in order to enjoy it. For instance, Gray's thoughts suggest that Calista is his fated mate with no choice in the matter, but the story also repeatedly says he chose a human mate, which felt contradictory. On top of that, Calista’s personality shift in the second half of the book was jarring: almost a complete 180 from how she started.

“Nobody else will ever touch you. Nobody else will ever f*cking look at you.”

That said, I really did like Calista in the beginning. Her dedication to her research, even when it made her a pariah, gave her strength and determination that I admired. She may not have been fully content with her role in society, but she refused to let others stop her from pursuing her passion. Gray, on the other hand, was the textbook alpha-hole: protective, possessive, obsessive. Normally those traits are a win for me, but I wish their relationship had more build-up before he went from zero to one hundred with Calista. It made their bond feel rushed rather than earned.

Only giving this 2 starts because it is the most hilariously bad AI romance I have ever seen, otherwise there really isn't an appropriate star level for this. I cannot believe no one has commented on this yet. Has an actual human reviewed it or are all the reviews computer generated too? There is no possible way human readers could review this seriously without noticing the writing "quality."

It's impossible to choose just one example. I would have to copy the entire book. it's so bad, but also hilarious. In any case, if you're looking for a real romance, you might feel cheated. If you just want a good laugh, it might yet be worth the read.

**I would love to know if anyone has solid info on whether this pen name is a team of ghostwriters, or an individual using AI at least some of the time. Skimming through some of the bibliography, some books seem more likely AI than others. But this one is hard to tell how much was human intention because on the one hand, there are pretty funny bits that sound like human wit, but on the other hand, many sentences sound like a kindergartner's first day with English.

The lack of personal information, volume of books, and bare bones website and social media seem to indicate what I suspect. But let me know! I'm purely curious, but I also think books written with AI must disclose because it informs whether or how the books are reviewed, amongst other reasons.

Who’s afraid of the big bad wolf?!

Want to find out about the big bad wolf? I loved all the facets of Calista’s character. Sometimes you want to cheer for her and then on the next page you want to slap her. Our FMC Calista has all the money in the world but is also the loneliest. She fills her days at the newspaper office researching “werewolves”. She shuns her big window filled office for the basement. All her research is there until it burns up in a suspicious fire. She should be afraid because their coming for her. She gets too close to the truth and Gray, a wolf shifter, shows up to warn her off. Calista has a snarky attitude. There’s a reason she is looking for the truth about werewolves. Gray is her mate, and they travel to meet his father and pack. Only they kidnap Callista and imprison Gray. The world is going to h#// in a hand basket for Calli. Can Gary possibly corral his mate to save her? Or will animal instincts win out? You need to check out the trigger warnings because there are a few of them.

i think this book was just a little too weird for me.

the writing felt pretty clunky to me. it wasn’t always clear where the characters were and when they’d leave a room or when they’d be talking on the phone vs. talking to someone standing right in front of them.

i also felt like the tone was kind a strange. the beginning of the book felt very serious and then towards the end it felt very silly and humorous. i didn’t really love that switch up. also it seemed like the FMC had a personality transplant halfway through the book, which kind of makes sense for what happened to her but it still felt like a completely different person.

also, this book featured a weird scene where the characters show up in “Moon Hollow” which later describes Luke, Lorelai, and Rory from Gilmore Girls in a town greatly resembling Stars Hollow. and i’m a GG fan but i still felt like it was a strange thing to include and really took me out of the story…

i just don’t really feel like this author is for me.

but it did keep me entertained and was a pretty quick read so I’ll still give this 3 stars!

This is an action filled read and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment, wonderfully captivating
This was a wonderful read that I enjoyed every moment of and I guarantee that other readers will be totally engrossed by. There are two main characters that that are so wonderfully written, Gray and Calista are written so well that you will feel as though you have been enticed into the plot and you will be completely engrossed within its pages.
I know that other readers will be as engrossed in the plot as I found myself and Loki Reynard does what she does best she creates a world of her own machinations and she draws the reader in and I find myself looking forward to the next book in this new series which I am sure other readers will enjoy.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

Calista is going to expose shifters. She knows there are wolf shifters and she isn’t going to be bullied. When a stranger tells her to forget about it, she tells him No. He isn’t about to take No for an answer. He will punish her for that. I have to say that Cali held out. She didn’t let him push her. He did tempt her though. Each time she defied him; her punishment was more intense. I had a feeling about Gray from the beginning. We do learn about the reason for Cali’s persistence with the shifter story. There needs to be change in control and it comes. And WTF! Experiments! I can’t believe what happens either. That was definitely not what I was expecting. OMG! You feel for Gray cause he loves Cali and just wants to keep her safe. Cali wants to be free. But she gets a whole lot more.

I have mixed feelings about the female main character (FMC). I really admire her strong commitment to her goals, but there are moments when her judgment doesn't seem as clear as it could be. It’s tricky for me to see her actions as purely brave since they often feel a bit impulsive. I’ve also noticed that the male main character (MMC) has a big influence on her decisions and actions. I truly appreciate his protectiveness and patience, but I wonder if his motivations come from a place of love or its because she is his mate.

Calista, a wealthy but lonely newspaper researcher, obsessively investigates werewolves, preferring the basement to her lavish office. When a suspicious fire destroys her research, she’s undeterred, even as danger looms. Gray, a wolf shifter and her destined mate, warns her to stop digging, but her snarky defiance persists, driven by a personal quest for truth. As they journey to meet Gray’s pack, they’re betrayed—Calista is kidnapped, and Gray is imprisoned. With chaos closing in, Gray must tame his instincts and save Calista before it’s too late in this thrilling, fiery tale.

This author is one of my favorite authors and I tend to read her books straight through often without stopping. I love everything she’s written and enjoyed this one just as much. Such a fun sense of humor and play on words/concepts.
I read a scathing review of this book written by another reader and found it a bit over the top regarding its animosity and what seemed to be almost personal in its tone. We’re fortunate to have options re authors and I’m SO GLAD I found Loki Renard.
Loki- thanks for the humor and heart you put into your characters. They’ve often given me respite when I’ve been feeling down😊.

Hunted Mate

This is my favourite Loki Renard book by far. It had all the goodness of the author’s usual storytelling alongside a lot of humour. It had me howling with laughter. ;) Callie is my favourite FMC I think Loki has ever written, and the MMC was amazing too, but Callie definitely was the highlight of this book. I haven’t read a lot of 5 star books this year, and I don’t give them out easily, but this was definitely a 5 star read for me!

The story is full of action and sometimes left me wondering what was going to happen next. It’s well written with two main characters, Gray and Calista who play well together. There is suspense and it was never disappointing, even in the worse situations. The story is definitely worth reading if you the like paranormals and I do.

This is a wonderfully different take on a shifter romance…
I absolutely loved the characters. The witty dialogue and sarcastic humor kept me turning pages long into the night. With Gray’s intervention, Calista’s quest for answers leads her to a disturbing reality. I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.

Good story.

Lots of action and steam. Calista is my favorite character. She is funny and strong but also spoiled because of her wealth. Gray wants to protect her , but he often underestimates her. Everyone underestimates her. There are twists to the plot. I love the doughnut scene. I recommend this to fans of paranormal shifter romances.

Spankings ahead!

Rich heiress kidnapped by a wolf shifter finds out just how eternally powerful she really is when she is taken from him and will do anything to be back by his side. Primal and ruthless, be aware this has some dubcon and noncon moments for those who might be triggered by such. Excellent read with plenty of spicy scenes.

A Wild Ride
Callista just wants to uncover the true about wolf shifters. But someone what’s her to stop, and will take measures to end her research … and that just the start of this wild ride! Callie and Gray are chaos incarnate together - if it’s not one thing, it’s another - and I loved this intense and manic ride.

Firstly, the low number of contractions - specifically I'm - was irritating.

Secondly, the word "breed" is used incorrectly ("breed your ass") at some point. The definition of "breed" is "to produce (offspring) by hatching or gestation. Impregnate. Inseminate." Unless the humans in this story have reproductive organs in their colon or large intestine, what?!?!

definitely erotic

Pay attention to the trigger warnings. I would have liked to give this 5 stars, but all of the characters were rather shallow. Good backstories, but I never really could sink completely into the story.

choppy and disorderly imo

Definitely can’t take this one seriously. The writing is very poor and kinda feels disconnected like nothing really makes sense. The instant shifts, the dialogue and the forced drama felt very choppy but I still got through it.

Calista is a reporter out to prove werewolves exist. Gray is the alpha of a pack and determined to protect it at all costs. He meets a nosy reporter while in a mask and gives her the lesson of her life. Turns out the couple are mates.

absolutely ridiculous

From the plot, to the dialogue, to the characters this was ridiculous. I stopped halfway and went to the end simply to leave a review it was so bad. Even the arc scenes couldn’t save this one

Hunted Mate

This was a Halloween story. It had many errors with the typing. It had me guessing. I laughed she didn't turn into a wolf she turned into a werewolf.
