Listening to this book felt more like watching a movie than reading a book. It is a very cinematic, almost like it was made for the screen. While that makes it easy and entertaining to follow, the story itself didn’t really grip me. The characters felt a bit one-dimensional, and the plot was predictable at times.
“Some stories don’t just play in your ears — they perform.”
That’s exactly how this audiobook felt. From the very first chapter, Do Not Disturb: Good Sex in Progress wasn’t just something I listened to — it was something I experienced. It felt like cinema in my ears. I was laughing out loud, smiling for no reason, and genuinely having fun the entire time.
Premise / Overall Feel This is one of those books that doesn’t take itself too seriously, yet still knows exactly what it’s doing. The story leans hard into humor, chemistry, and unapologetic fun. It’s playful, bold, and delightfully messy in the best way.
Characters & Banter The banter is top-tier. Sharp, funny, and full of personality. The dialogue flows so naturally that it feels like you’re overhearing conversations rather than listening to a scripted story. The fruckery (yes, fruckery 😌) is constant and intentional — nothing feels stiff or forced.
Audiobook Experience This is where the book truly shines. The narration elevates everything. Timing, delivery, tone — all of it lands perfectly. This is one of those audiobooks where the narrator becomes the characters, and it makes the humor hit harder and the moments feel bigger. I honestly can’t imagine enjoying this story as much in any other format.
Pacing & Writing The pacing is smooth and engaging. No dragging, no boredom — just pure entertainment from start to finish. The writing knows its lane and stays in it confidently, which I really appreciated.
What Worked for Me • Laugh-out-loud moments • Strong, consistent banter • Audiobook narration that felt cinematic • Pure enjoyment without emotional exhaustion
Why It’s a 5-Star Read for Me This book did exactly what it set out to do — and did it well. It entertained me, made me laugh, and reminded me how fun listening to a story can be. Sometimes a book doesn’t need to be heavy or profound to be excellent. Sometimes it just needs to be good, and this was very, very good.
Final Thoughts If you’re looking for an audiobook that feels like a rom-com playing in your head, full of laughs, chemistry, and unapologetic fun — this one delivers. No notes. Just vibes. 🎧✨
Okay, so on my audiobook forays, I came across this on Audible and decided to give it a go. Is it an audiobook? Or more of a listening series, a bit like The Archers on the radio? (Except, absolutely not like The Archers in content, lol!) We have three black women, all long-term friends, talking about, well, s-e-x, really. A married woman with a worry 'down there'; a single woman looking for that special someone; a woman with a devious ex sniffing around; and a woman who much prefers women but cannot get her mother to understand, so she is constantly being set up with new suitors from church. It was great to hear different voices for each character, and I had a real giggle as I listened. Very down-to-earth and real, if you know what I mean!
This audible original instantly had me hooked and I finished it in on sitting. It gave sex in the city vibes but black girl version which I really liked. I thought the part about male doctors seemed a little cringy. The ending was very random and kind of. made me sad but also excited to see if there’s a sequel.
I really enjoyed this story! Friends who totally get each other and hilarious. That resonated. It certainly felt like a TV show. More Girlfriends than Sex in the City. Prejudice is a real and daily thing for black women, unfortunately. I didn't enjoy the ending...unless there's going to be a follow up. Please, I need a follow up! I enjoyed this audiobook and will be recommending it to friends.
I was not expecting that twist in the plot! I loved this. It totally deserves to be a TV show. I love each of the women individually and together. It's funny and messy and a great way to kill an afternoon.
What a wild ride! I really enjoyed this Dolby Atmos production. The characters were likable and complex. Only 4 stars for a crappy ending. I didn't need a happy ending all around, but I didn't need an unexpected horrible decision.
I love the characters and so funny! I felt like I was watching a show but listening instead. Now you know you wrong how the story ended. Please hurry with part 2!
