Historical romance with a definite twist!

I love The Gentlemen's Club series by Tiffany Baton! Book five of the series, A Widow for the Earl, was definitely a twist from the rest of the series! All of the books involved love that occurred after a bit of a scandal. Each book focused on a different woman who was part of a group of best friends who were not society's darlings. However, Beatrice, the female protagonist of A Widow for the Earl, was one of the most outspoken, thoroughly outrageous, and the one of her friends most destined for spinsterhood. So it was surprising that the book started not only with her being forced into an arranged marriage, but that it happened three times! I would never have thought Beatrice would ever succumb to societal ideas about women and marriage. And widowhood? I would have expected her to more likely escape to somewhere she could live her spinster life in peace. Tiffany Baton totally surprised me with the original storyline. The three-dimensional character development of Beatrice that culminated in A Widow for the Earl was brilliant!

There was also a Gothic feel to this book that was not in the other books in the series. I could see that Beatrice's interest in ghosts and other paranormal phenomena was a offshoot of the strange deaths of her previous husbands.

II appreciate how it was explain why both Vincent & Beatrice behaved as they did & how the more they got to know each other & the closer they got, they started to see the other person side & really understand their feelings & action.

I loved how Vincent saw Beatrice pain & was kind to her & I really love the moment when he opened up to her about his father's death & she opened up to him about her experience with her parents & they were both compassionate & cared for the other feelings & we're sad to hear what's the other had gone through.

There was a low moment, but I appreciated it was only about 30 pages & a few days for the characters.

There was several funny moments, especially one in the epilogue that made me laugh out loud!

I also loved that Vincent was a true gentleman & cared a lot about what is right & how it was explained why he was more strict. I thought he was a great brother in the first book & was glad to see his story!

This may be my favorite book by this author. After reading the first few pages I was not sure I was going to enjoy this book. I am so glad to say how wrong I was. This story has a little something that I think everyone can relate to. Do you believe opposites attract? This story is for you. Have you even felt unloved by your parents? This story is for you. Have you ever felt you were unseen, unheard? This story is for you. Even been happy for your married friends in love and wish you were? This story is for you. Love trying to figure out who the villain is? Then this story may be for you too. This story make take you through a variety of emotions from laughing to tears and finally happy. Plus there is a big surprise coming near the end that I was not expecting. I just hope you enjoy this story has much as I have.

A Good Stort

A really enjoyable story. Lady Beatrice had been widowed three times, each time on her wedding night. Vincent was the distant heir to the title and estate. When he arrived at the estate, he made it clear that he did not want Beatrice there. She devised all sorts of schemes to try to chase him away. I really liked her ingenuity. Beatrice had a lot of supportive friends and they protected her from the worst of Vincent's grumpy behaviour. Gradually Vincent and Beatrice began to grow closer. The story unfolds with an abduction, attempted murders and several murders. Despite all of that, love wins through. A well-written, clean story.

Trying to be perfect

What incredible bad luck for Beatrix to be widowed 3 times. No wonder she thought that she had a curse. Vincent, though he was the brother of her friends, was not an admirer of Beatrix. While Beatrix was in mourning at her residence, it became known that Vincent was the heir to her late husband's title and property. This meant that Beatrix would have to leave the property. Sorting out the ownership of the property took a while, so this gave Beatrix and Vincent time to get to know each other. Their feelings for each other grew to love and after rescuing Beatrix from a kidnapping Vincent was able to proclaim his love for her.

This was a great book! I found myself irritated by life because it kept interfering with my reading. The arguments were fierce and had just started to become annoying. Then the tables turned! The last third was a shocker, and was truly unexpected. The villain was truly a shocker and quite unexpected,

Ahhh but love wins!

My favorite part was it was very cleanly written.

Great Story

I loved this book's story. It showed how parents can hurt a child and how evil can interfere with someone's life and create a lot of problems. But in the end everything was discovered and love triumphed for the affected couple. A great book to read. Good job Tiffany !

Another installment to the series with some twists that took me by surprise. So happy that Beatrice finally got her happy ever after with the man she thought hated her, Vincent.
