I really like this book. A bit far fetched but the epilogue surprised me! A very quick read as well. I loved the short chapters!

In a town like Tallulah Lake, with a population of just a few thousand people, secrets don’t stay buried—they ferment, becoming richer and more potent with time.

Whitley Crossland doesn’t have much. A job at a shoe store, a crappy studio apartment, and dreams of completing her Master’s degree in creative writing at Yale. Everything changes when the handsome and charming Roman suddenly walks into her life, and it seems like everything she could’ve wanted is finally within reach. But life isn’t quite perfect. Roman has secrets, and he doesn’t want Whitley digging. But he doesn’t realize Whitley has secrets of her own…

This fast-paced thriller had me hooked right from the prologue. It was packed with twists and I just couldn’t put it down! This was my first book by this author, but it definitely won’t be my last.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

This one had me hooked from the jump. Whitney is just trying to build a normal life...working retail, planning for college, dreaming of reconnecting with her brother. Then Roman walks in, all smooth confidence and big promises, and she’s swept right off her feet. Their quick romance turns into marriage, but the fairy tale cracks fast. The controlling behavior, the dodging strangers, the secrets; it all builds until Whitney makes a break for it. And honestly, I couldn’t blame her.

What I loved most was how the story kept shifting. Every time I thought I knew where it was heading, something new popped up: tornado drama, small-town mysteries, a reporter who knows more than he lets on, and a family secret I definitely didn’t see coming. Whitney’s journey is messy, emotional, and at times frustrating, but that’s what makes it feel real.

Thank you NetGalley and Inkubator Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Now You See Me by Leah Cupps, Whitney just turned 22 she works at a shoe store and because she grew up in the foster system and being busy with her studies, she has no friends. She hopes to one day become a rider and even is applying to Yale the same college her father went to. her life started out great with her mom and dad and brother Billy but when her parents died in an accident her and her brother was separated although she desperately longs to see him again. The only thing she was left is the family home on the lake with money to fix it up but she doesn’t want to move there until she talks to her brother. This is why when she meets Roman she is ripe for the picking. He’s handsome successful and much older than Whitney but she truly falls in love with him and even marries him and starts working for his company. It doesn’t take long however for Whitney to see cracks in Romans façade from dodging people at restaurants to his controlling nature but when he became abusive she knew it was time to get out only she would have to fight for her freedom. When she left she really thought she left Roman dead on the floor in their home and she is on the way to the only place available to her and that is her family home unfortunately right when she gets close to town a tornado hits she wrecks the car and whinds up in the hospital. this is where she meets Luke who she believes is a reporter and happens to be working on a case similar to the nightmare she just left when she finally gets out the hospital and takes up residence and her family home however she thought she wouldn’t see him again but he seems to show up every day with breakfast a smile on his face and eager to help. Soon however Whitney’s past good and bad comes rearing its head and all Whitney wants to do is live through it. those lots I have left out of this review like the secret her and her brother Billy have kept all these years but this is truly a twisty read I love this author’s books and although this one wasn’t my favorite it is far from being my least favorite she is such a great writer who writes such great characters and poor Whitney seems like she’ll never learn things aren’t as they appear. #BookSprout, #TheBlindReviewer, #MyHonestReview,

Ugh, good till the last line—I’m still thinking about it! I was on the edge of my seat and devoured this in huge gulps.

Whitley Crossland meets Roman—charming, wealthy, perfect—and after a whirlwind romance they marry. But the “Mr. Right” façade cracks fast. The red flags start piling up, fear creeps in, and Whitley realizes she’s living with a stranger. When she finally runs, the game turns into full-on cat-and-mouse: Roman is clever and relentless… but Whitley has secrets of her own, and that’s where the story really sinks its hooks in.

Leah Cupps absolutely nails the suspense—tight pacing, mounting dread, and twists that kept me second-guessing everyone. I flew through the chapters because I had to know who would outsmart whom, and that final line? Chef’s kiss. Side note: I’m not totally sure how the title fits, but honestly, tiny quibble compared to how addictive this was.

If you love domestic thrillers with dangerous marriages, gaslighting, and a breathless chase, this one delivers in spades. 🙌

The prologue for this book was immediately intense so I made sure to strap myself in for the ride 😂

It follows main character Whitley who is desperately trying to save money and get into Yale. Along comes Roman, who changes her life.. but not for the better.

Whilst I liked the premise of this book, I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought and hoped I would. I felt there was a lot going on, it felt quite hectic at times. There was a lack of twists.

I do think this is a book that people will really enjoy if you appreciate a well written, fast paced and easy read.

I would like to read more from this author!

If you have any content triggers, I advise you to read any trigger warnings beforehand.

I like books where people aren't who they seem. Roman was mysterious, and I was hoping things would go well for him and Whitley.

Now You See Me is full of twists. It's not the first Leah Cupps book I have reviewed and liked.

Only giving it 2 stars because it allowed me to finish my reading goal, otherwise a 1 star. If I heard “bile rises in my throat” or “metallic taste of blood” one more time I was going to lose it. First time I read a “thriller” based on insurance fraud?! Wild. Don’t recommend, but happy to achieve my 2025 reading goal

Let me tell you… I was absolutely EATING THIS UP. I read this in two sittings. Then… I finished it.

The ending was okay, but I wanted something more from it. I felt the ending was lacking and not as tied together in a bow as I would’ve liked. I still really enjoyed this though!

I thought this started out strong and promising, but once I got to part 2, it really went downhill for me. It was predictable pretty early on for me, too. I was also bothered that almost every single chapter ended in italics with some suspenseful question or “cliffhanger.”

What do you do when the perfect man turns out to be not so perfect? Whitley has struggled since her parents died when she was a teenager. Scraping together every dollar to support herself and her dreams of going to a prestigious college. Roman enters her life and sweeps her off her feet (after some doubts).

I enjoyed this quick thriller and especially Whitley’s perseverance. She feels seen for the first time in a long time. It’s is Cinderella story where Whitley is rescued from a low income job and given everything she could ask for. But this is a psychological thriller so it can’t end there. The author throws in quite a few twists that kept me guessing until the end!

Meet Whitley Crossland: shoe store employee, Yale dreamer, and sister-searcher extraordinaire. She's saving every penny for Yale while hunting for her long-lost brother Billy, because apparently her life wasn't complicated enough already. When your parents die and the foster care system plays sibling roulette with your family, selling shoes for minimum wage while dreaming of Ivy League tuition really puts things in perspective.

Enter Roman, a man so successful and charming that he's basically a LinkedIn profile come to life. He's everything Whitley could want in a husband—wealthy, attentive, and conveniently available for a whirlwind romance. Red flag number one: any man willing to marry someone after knowing them for like five minutes either has commitment issues or is running from the law. Plot twist: it might be both!

Whitley, bless her optimistic heart, never questions why Mr. Perfect wants to marry a shoe saleswoman so quickly. Maybe she figured his love was so pure it transcended background checks? Unfortunately, some suspicious work documents start looking fishier than a week-old salmon, and suddenly, Whitley's playing detective in her own marriage.

The central question—"Is Roman a good man or a bad man?"—gets answered in ways that make you want to scream "GIRL, RUN!" at your Kindle. When Whitley finally decides to leave, Roman responds with all the grace of a toddler losing screen time, except infinitely more dangerous.
Let's be honest: the first half had me checking my watch more than a bored teenager in calculus class. The setup felt predictable—we've all seen the "too-good-to-be-true husband" playbook before. The pacing dragged like Monday morning traffic, and I found myself wondering if this was going to be another paint-by-numbers thriller.

But then—hallelujah!—the second half happened. Suddenly, Cupps remembered she was writing a psychological thriller, not a meditation on the retail shoe industry. The story kicks into high gear and starts delivering twists sharper than a GPS having a breakdown. What seemed like predictable domestic drama transforms into something genuinely surprising, with revelations that hit like surprise medical bills.

Cupps' writing is genuinely well-crafted throughout, even when the plot drags. She has a real talent for psychological depth and character development—it's just that sometimes she takes the scenic route to get there. The second half proves that the slower buildup was worth it, delivering payoffs that make you forget you ever checked the page count.

Bottom Line: "Now You See Me" is a tale of two halves—the first will test your patience, but the second will reward it handsomely. Despite some draggy moments that make you wonder if Roman's biggest crime is being boring, Cupps ultimately delivers a well-written thriller that sticks the landing. Perfect for psychological thriller fans who don't mind a slow burn before the fireworks—just be prepared to power through some retail therapy scenes to get to the good stuff.

Best enjoyed with: Comfortable reading position, because you won't be moving for a while, and maybe some trust issues about your own relationships—you know, for the full immersive experience.

As someone who devours psychological thrillers like they're popcorn at a midnight movie marathon, I approached Leah Cupps' "Now You See Me" with the kind of anticipation usually reserved for finding the last chocolate chip cookie in the jar. Having thoroughly enjoyed her previous works, I settled in expecting another mind-bending ride through the twisted corridors of human psychology.
The premise certainly hooks you from page one: young Whitley and her brother witness a brutal murder, only to have their world completely shattered when their parents are killed shortly after. The siblings are thrust into the foster care system and cruelly separated, with Whitley's desperate attempts to maintain contact with her brother meeting dead ends at every turn. It's like he simply evaporated into the ether—a phantom himself.
Fast-forward eleven years, and Whitley has painstakingly rebuilt her life. She's found love, inched closer to her Yale dreams, and for a brief, shining moment, it seems like she might actually get her happily ever after. But as we thriller enthusiasts know all too well, the past is like that unwanted houseguest who shows up unannounced and refuses to leave. When the FBI comes knocking with questions about an investigation, Whitley's carefully constructed new identity begins to crumble like a house of cards in a windstorm.
Leah Cupps excels at crafting that suffocating atmosphere where nowhere feels safe—not even the places that should offer sanctuary. The concept of being perpetually hunted, of having to constantly look over your shoulder, is viscerally portrayed. There's something deeply unsettling about the idea that simply staying still makes you a target, that movement becomes your only defense against invisible predators.
However, where "Now You See Me" stumbles is in its execution of what should have been shocking revelations. The sibling reunion, while emotionally charged, follows a trajectory that seasoned thriller readers will spot from miles away. The witness protection angle, though well-researched, doesn't bring the fresh perspective I was hoping for. Instead of subverting genre expectations, the plot seems content to color within familiar lines.
That said, Leah Cupps demonstrates her strength in character development, particularly in Whitley's evolution from traumatized child to determined survivor. The psychological toll of living with such devastating secrets is palpably rendered, and the way past trauma bleeds into present-day relationships feels authentic and heartbreaking.
The pacing maintains steady momentum throughout, never quite letting you settle into comfort—much like Whitley herself can never truly rest. For readers who enjoy reunion stories wrapped in psychological suspense with a healthy dose of witness protection drama, this book delivers exactly what it promises on the tin.
While "Now You See Me" may not revolutionize the psychological thriller landscape, it's a solid entry that will satisfy genre fans looking for familiar comforts rather than groundbreaking surprises. Sometimes, predictability isn't necessarily a flaw—sometimes it's exactly what we need.

Now You See Me by Leah Cupps is the kind of thriller that demands your full attention. From the very first chapter, I felt like I’d been quietly ushered into a room where something terrible had already happened—and I had to figure it out before it happened again. The tension is palpable, the atmosphere tightly wound, and the sense of dread builds with every page.

This isn’t just a mystery with surface-level suspense. What makes it so gripping is how real it feels. At the heart of the story is Whitley, whose descent into an abusive relationship is portrayed with unsettling accuracy. The manipulation, the gaslighting, the gradual erosion of her confidence—it all creeps in with such believability that you’re not just reading about it, you feel it. I was constantly worried for her, watching the red flags pile up and hoping she’d see what I could see.

Leah Cupps does a brilliant job keeping the narrative sharp and immersive. There are twists—so many, in fact, that I had to slow down just to absorb them properly. Each revelation adds another layer to the story, shifting your perspective and keeping you guessing until the very last chapter. Her pacing is deliberate, sometimes slow in the best way, allowing the suspense to simmer before it finally boils over.

That said, there was one thing that pulled me out of the experience slightly. A few secondary characters felt hastily concluded—after so much buildup, I was hoping for more satisfying resolutions.

For readers who like:
- Domestic thrillers
- Slow-burn suspense
- Multiple twists and reveals

Final Verdict
Now You See Me is an intense ride through manipulation, fear, and resilience, told with clarity and care. While I had a few qualms with the resolution, I can’t deny how completely it pulled me in. If you like your thrillers personal and haunting, this one belongs on your list.

Grateful to NetGalley, Inkubator Books, and Leah Cupps for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.

Now you see me is a really gripping, addictive domestic thriller.
Whitely and her brother were separated in foster care after her parents died. Now that she's older, has a job, and has a few dollars of her own, she's ready to find her brother. In the search for her brother, ,she comes across a charming man named Roman. Roman is seemingly perfect. He has a great job, makes really good money, sweet, and smart. Him and Whitley strike up a relationship and before you know it, they're getting married. Through it all though, Whitley has reservations about Roman. Something about his business doesn't seem right. He convinces her that everything is on the up and up and even encourages her to put off going to Yale and getting her degree to work for him. And like a doe eyed woman in love, she follows his lead. Until he starts to change. It starts slowly, but quickly escalates and now she's running of her life. What makes the situation even worse is that in her search for her brother, she's become entangled with the fbi. What Roman doesn't know though, is that Whitley also has secrets of her own.
Leah did an amazing job with the story. The twists come when you least expect them and story stays at a consistent thrilling fast pace. I especially love domestic thrillers because you get to see the other person slowly change. You see the red flags that you normally wouldn't if you were in the situation. I couldn't stop screaming at Whitley to get out that relationship. Leah's writing is compelling and sucks you in so much so that you forget you're even reading. This was my first book by Leah Cupps and I will definitely be checking out more!

3.75 stars!

I really enjoyed this one. It’s a fast paced psychological thriller that pulls you in quickly and keeps the tension high, especially in certain scenes where I was genuinely on the edge of my seat.

This story kept reminding of that movie Enough, with Jennifer Lopez! very much that survival, reclaiming your power energy. At first, I found myself getting frustrated with the FMC because there were so many red flags with the MMC. But as the story went on, it became clear that this was intentional. The author does a great job portraying a woman who has always felt like she wasn’t enough and therefore talks herself out of warning signs. Sadly, that happens far too often in real life, and I think it was handled really well here.

The pacing is quick, with short chapters that make it easy to fly through. I can definitely see why Leah Cupps is often compared to Freida McFadden. The writing is very similar, short, fast paced, action packed, and with a solid twist!

I will say the beginning was a little slow for me, and there were moments where I wasn’t entirely sure how the story was going to unfold. A few sections felt like they jumped around slightly, but overall it didn’t take away from my enjoyment.

This was sent to me by the author and I'm extremely Grateful! It was a strong, engaging read, and I’m definitely interested in checking out more of Leah Cupps’ books.

3.75 stars for me rounded to 4. My first book by this author and it's not the last.
Whitley Crossland working in a shoe store, saving money for Yale, and trying to find her younger brother Billy. They were separated after they parents die, and located in different foster care houses.

Whitley meet Roman,a successful man,who seem like a dream. Getting fast married, working together Whitley never question this perfect man, until some work related documents looks wrong,
and she start to suspect Roman may not be truthful at all.

The question is is he a good man, or is he a bad man?
What would happen if Whitley decide to leave?

More sinister revelation come to light, and she have to run.

In the beginning I could see where that story is going, but then it took turn that I didn't suspect. The twists at the end was great, when I think it's over all nicely wrap up, BOOM another revelation.

If would recommend this for a killer psychological thriller fans, fast and thrilling read.

Upon beginning this story, my first thought was “now this is what you call a prologue”. It definitely drew me in from the beginning as I was curious to see what led to this scene. This is one of those stories where you don’t quite know which characters you can trust until it’s too late.

I had a love/dislike relationship with Whitley, as her troubled childhood tugged in my heart strings, but some of her bad decision making made me want to yell at her lol. I do understand how she fell for Roman and ignored all the red flags, but I was definitely rooting for her and was hoping that she eventually saw what was right in front of her.

The way the second half of the book played out, I almost feel as if I got a “two for one”. I enjoyed the deep dive the author showed us into Whitley & Billy’s past, as it did in fact, explain a lot of her behaviors. Overall, a well written domestic thriller that I enjoyed and would recommend.

🔪"Some secrets, I’ve learned, are meant to stay buried. Some lies protect more than they harm. And sometimes, the only people you can truly trust are the ones who share your darkest truths".

🩸Whitley has already lost her parents, can't find her brother, and survived foster care. While working her retail job/school, she stumbles upon her Mr. Right (or is he?). Living the life she always dreamed and finally married, things go terribly wrong. Who is this man she married?? She flees, but knows Roman is still on the hunt for her.

This book had me hooked from page 1. We have a foster care rep element, mild amnesia, domestic violence, lost family, so many secrets, and so many twists that keep you engaged the whole ride. Usually I like figuring out the puzzles of psych thrillers, but this one had me guessing right up till the last page with so many shocks, and i may have stayed up late to finish reading because i had to know! This was my first book by this author, but definitely not my last!

Grab a cup of tea or coffee and some snacks because once you start reading this book you won’t be going anywhere until you finish. As a psychological thriller it’s hard to do anything that hasn’t been done before and this book doesn’t do that but it is well worth reading.

The prologue is an immediate hook and while the first part of the book centres around developing the story the rest of the book is a roller coaster ride of unexpected twists and turns.

In many ways the story reminded me of the brilliant move ‘Sleeping With the Enemy’ as the main character struggled with a seemingly perfect marriage with so many red flags that go unnoticed (until they don’t). It is an all too real depiction of coercive control.

As the pace races along you keep thinking you’ve worked out the ending but when you get there everything you thought was completely wrong and the conclusion hits hard.

'Whatever brought you back here...just be careful. Tallulah lake has a way of dredging up the past'

When a chance encounter with a handsome and charming man leads to a whirlwind romance, she thinks her dreams have come true. After growing up in foster care she remained in close contact with her brother, until her letters started arriving back, 'not at this address' Whitley is determined to find her brother, and one person says she can help. Unfortunately, she isn't who she says she is and is about to shatter Whitley's world and everything she knows.

This is action packed and really well written. Very much plot driven, although Whitley's character is full of depth and it is impossible not to want her to succeed. Twists and turns all over the place and I couldn't put this down, literally. I read this in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you like your psychological thrillers, this is for you!

This book was not what I really expected it to be. It was better. And, I knew I liked books by Leah Cupps, so I was already expecting a good read, my bar already set high.

While I can totally see many readers being angry at Whitley (FMC) and saying they screamed at her all through the book, I think Whitley was a brilliantly written character. There is definitely enough background info given that makes sense of her seemingly illogical, irrational, or even naïve decisions. If you pay attention, you see things for what they are and characters for who they are, and this is one more thing where Leah Cupps has succeeded, crafting those characters and their background stories.

The final twist? It was wildly entertaining. Although it was clear that something like that was bound to happen - dooh, the book was too good to miss the final good twist! – it made me laugh out loud how wildly unexpected it was.

Y’all! This is a suspenseful, heart-thumping thriller that sneaks up on you like a shadow in a dark hallway. Whitley thinks she’s found her dream man—charming, wealthy, irresistible—until Roman’s perfect façade crumbles. 😳🖤

Her glittery romance flips into a pulse-pounding nightmare. The chase is relentless, smart, and twisted, but Whitley has secrets too, making every maneuver through fear and strategy exhilarating. 🏃‍♀️💨

Characters are vivid and human—Whitley’s wit and inner steel make her impossible not to root for, while Roman’s charm is deliciously terrifying. Cupps’ crisp, cinematic writing pulls you into every narrow escape and secret whispered in the dark. ⚡👀

Four stars—some plot beats felt predictable, but the tension, twists, and smart thrills kept me hooked. A darkly addictive ride with a heroine you’ll cheer for. 🖤💥

This was such a great book that had me on the end of my seat, always reading just one more chapter!

Now You See Me was a twisty psychological thriller that kept you hooked till the last page. While I normally enjoy a psychological thriller I have to say this one was really fantastic and kept me gripped throughout. Whitley was really relatable and likeable character which I think helped tremendously. Roman was basically Mr. Perfect but as always the Mr Perfects of the world are often hiding something.

Pacy, twisty and incredibly enjoyable. Now You See Me is the perfect psychological thriller for fans who are wanting something that will keep you absorbed and wanting to read just one more chapter.

As always thank you to Zooloo’s Book Tours for the copy to review. My review is always honest, truthful and freely given.

What do you do when the perfect man turns out to be no so perfect? Whitley has struggled since her parents died when she was a teenager. Scraping every dollar to support herself and her dreams of going to a prestigious college. Roman enters her life and sweeps her off her feet.
I enjoyed this quick thriller Whitney’s feels seen for the first time in a long time. It’s a sort of Cinderella story where Whitley is rescued from a low income job and given everything she could ask for. It this is a psychological thriller so we know it doesn’t end there. The Author keep me guessing and turning pages until the end.
