Misguided Vengeance

Rate this book
The Files Of A Fifteen-Year-Old Murder Case lay covered with dust in the subbasement archives of the Fourteenth Precinct. New York City Homicide Detective Jeremy Lyons has done his best to bury the tragedy deep in his subconscious mind.

An early-morning phone call from his boss, Deputy Inspector John F. McAllen, changes all that, and Jeremy finds the high profile case was just the beginning. The actions of a psychopathic killer force him to peel away the layers of time and re-live the past.

Friends and acquaintances are being brutally murdered, and everyone close to him is at risk. A vicious old man is tormenting Jeremy from the grave while his quarry walks the streets. Powerful real-estate mogul Andrew Sylvester Wallington III and New York City high-fashion-industry executive Kathryn Donahue interweave power, wealth and passion into the story.

And yet, just when Jeremy believes things can’t worse, they do. Only time will tell who the killer’s next target will be.

In this mystery novel, a hardened homicide detective sees ghosts of the past in his current investigation into a series of brutal murders.

R.T. DENNIS grew up in New Jersey where he attended Parsippany High School and later earned a degree in Fine Arts from Monmouth College in West Long Branch.

In March of 2012, he ventured to South America in search of a place where he could spend his retirement years in a tranquil environment with a warm climate. He is now retired and living in Ecuador.

The ending of Misguided Vengeance, his first novel, came to him while he sipped Mojitos at the poolside bar at the Barcelo-Colon Hotel in Salinas, Ecuador.

Misguided Vengeance began as nothing more than a series of notes scribbled on cocktail napkins spread across the bar, but by the end of the day, the foundation for the crime novel had been laid.

having read the first edition, I've now read the second. I liked the second one even better so I've upgraded my rating to 5 stars. IF you like a good story and want a surprise at the end then take the time to read Misguided Vengeance.

Part one of the book introduces readers to Jeremy Lyons, head of the homicide division in the 14th precinct in New York. His two best friends, detectives Burns and Walcott, are brutally murdered. Lyons locates an eyewitness and brings wealthy CEO Andrew Wallington III to trial. Wallington is convicted and sentenced to prison. The second part of the book fast forwards fifteen years. Jeremy is happily married and blissfully unaware that someone in Wallington's family is plotting revenge A dismembered body turns up and then another. Those being savagely murdered are friends of Jeremy and he fears for his wife and unborn child as the next targets.

I wasn't terribly impressed with Jeremy in the first part of the book as I thought he acted immaturely for someone in command of a unit of detectives with his screaming and often heated behavior. But the second part of the book brought quite a few surprises. The author wove a very tangled web out of the characters I least suspected. As you read the book, be aware of people who may only be mentioned one time as they may turn up in some capacity later.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway.

If you love Crime Novels then this one is for you!

Who is the Antagonist? You’ll find yourself asking that question over and over again as you read Misguided Vengeance. There is a clue but I’ll bet you’ll gloss over it just as I did. The story moves along at a good pace and is the right mix of intrigue, action, and conflict. R.T. Dennis does an excellent job of creating his characters. There are ones you will like and wish only good things for them, and of course there are ones you will probably wish would have all the evils of the world fall upon them. As you read more will definitely want to know what comes next and the story will lead you in many directions. Where does it go? How does it end? You’ll have to read the story to find out. I understand there is a sequel in the works. Can’t wait for that one to hit the streets.
