It was just a fling.A bit of fun on the weekends. Definitely not permanent.

Not that I wouldn’t love to crack the ice around rich and sexy Declan Foster’s heart.

And he was the last person I expected to ride to my rescue when I found myself suddenly homeless and a father.

Now he’s spoiling my daughter and me at every turn, offering the perfect life on a silver platter.

Should I risk my heart on a man who once said he never wanted kids?

The Complication is the second full-length novel in the Executive Suite Secrets series, which includes a billionaire, a suddenly homeless single dad, snark, teasing, stolen kisses, “helpful” friends, a little princess who’s going to steal your heart, and a sweet, forever kind of love.

I don't know where to even begin to explain the horrible week that poor Parker is having at the beginning of this book. In a short span of time, not only does he find himself homeless, but he also ends up with custody of his infant daughter Joy that he was never supposed to raise (there's a story there). And to top it all off, his temp job contract is about to end. Parker is well and truly screwed. So, when Declan reaches out with a helping hand, he finds himself in a position with no choice but to take it. And thank goodness he does.

I adored getting to know Declan better in this book. He was an interesting side character in book 1 and I wondered what he was going to be like with his own significant other. There is a lot going on beneath the surface with this man. He feels things, yet he often doesn't have the words to express them. Growing up in such a cold household didn't teach Declan all that much about how to care for others, but with Parker and Joy it seemed to just come naturally. Yes, there was a learning curve with a baby in the house, but Declan never really shied away from the nitty gritty. More than once he would offer to watch Joy so Parker could do some thing or another. He really was a sweet and kind man.

As Parker and Declan settle into cohabitating and raising Joy, it was easy to see how the three of them fit together as a family. Even Declan's staff adored having both of them living in the house. Parker and Joy brought laughter and smiles to all who interacted with them, and I loved that Declan got to be a part of it. To see what a real family should be like. And that's exactly what the three of them were in the end. A family living their HEA together.

Got slightly derailed but recovered well

3.5*

It was heading towards a solid 4* but then there was the overly dramatic Act Three/75% tension for the sake of it point that irritated me.

While I understand that some 'writing guides' say there should be something happening in what would be the Third Act of a play, my opinion is that doesn't necessarily mean it should happen in a book.

Here it felt like it was artificially created just for that purpose, for me, it would have made far more sense if it occurred much earlier in the narrative, where the concerns of Parker's mother would have felt more weighted.

But, it's a minor quibble, I loved seeing Declan come out of his shell as he fell in love with little innocent baby Joy, it softened his edges and gave an insight into how much his heart was capable of love, if given the chance.

Parker was a good match for him and I did appreciate that Jocelynn went back and gave him a proper period of mourning both the loss of Molly, but also of his old life.

Declan's two employees at his house were also super sweet and I liked seeing them involved in the caring as the new family dynamics settled.

Sex is smoking hot, one area where there's no doubts whatsoever that these two men are perfect for each other.

Interestingly it's Rome up next with a former friend to enemies to lovers again.

We’re already onto the second book in Jocelynn Drake’s Executive Suite Secrets series, and it does a great job of building on the world we were introduced to in the first book. We get to follow Declan and Parker in their opposites-attract, grumpy-sunshine story, and how it unravels to their HEA.

Declan is the strong, silent type. He is maaaaybe a little grumpy, reserved, and not exactly a fan of people (can't say I blame him). While Parker is his total opposite. He is fun, flirty, and full of energy. But when things start to fall apart for Parker, Declan of all people steps in to help. And just like that what starts as a casual hooking up slowly turns into something much deeper.

I was really looking forward to Declan’s book, and I’m happy to report that it had lived up to my expectations!
I really enjoyed how Parker and Declan’s relationship is portrayed as emotional and full of chemistry, but also messy. And it’s that messiness that sells it for me because real life is messy, and real relationships are messy. And it’s the messy parts that make it feel real for me.

But not to worry, there are plenty of funny moments, but also a few frustrating ones thanks to miscommunication...and certain outside meddling. Speaking of meddling, Parker’s mom really pissed me off. Yes, she has good intentions. Yes, she’s partly right. But the way she handled “the talk” and assumed Parker was healed "enough" after two devastating blows and only in a month...ugh! For someone who supposedly “knows her son”, that is just inexcusable. No matter how independent, anyone in that situation is allowed to take a breather and hide for a while if they are in a safe environment to do so. So while the saying “mother knows best” is definitely not true, “the road to hell is paved with good intentions” definitely is. Fortunately for them (and us), Declan and Parker don’t take too long to realise they’re better off together. And they’re both taking action, just in different ways. Love me some proactive idiots! 🥰

That said, we also get to enjoy some really sweet moments. Watching Declan open up and really show how much he actually cares was such a beautiful thing. It made my heart so happy! I also loved how Parker brought lightness and charm into Declan’s life while also shaking things up along the way. 😉🤭
And let’s not forget Joy! It was really heartwarming to see how she brought out a softer side in both Declan and Parker...all the side characters to be honest, especially Franks and Chef Donovan, who also add some fun and warmth to the story.

All in all, The Complication is a really fun, warm, and beautiful story about the grumpy guy meeting his sunshine (or two), all topped off with some beautiful character growth and strong emotional investment for the reader.

Also, while you don’t have to read the first book to enjoy this one, it’s worth checking out since it adds context and you get more of that found-family vibe that Jocelynn writes so well. ❤️

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my unbiased review.

There's something that always gets me of characters who have lots of deep feelings and no way to properly express them, and Declan is one of them. Which is why I was looking forward to reading this book so much, and it didn't disappoint. He makes such a good partner for Parker and it makes the story more rich and fulfilling

Is 'The Complication' in the room with us right now?

Declan is just a guy, standing in front of Parker, asking him to complicate his life. Gagging for it, even.

So. The title is a bit of a misnomer. Teensy weensy nitpick about that, because I really thought I was going to read a book about a reluctant dad, slowly realizing he's kinda into it.

There's no reluctance. But there IS a lot of sweetness and an MC discovering he really loves things he never thought he would.

I enjoyed Declan calling on his battalion of friends to help prep him for their first date, even though he and Parker had already been sleeping together for a year and living together for like a month by then.

Yes, they do things in the reverse, which was also kind of amusing to read.

I enjoyed Declan in general. Even though his job seemed to fade into the background the moment Parker got his first issue.

Parker's okay. Mostly indifferent to him.

Was not irritated by the baby, possibly because it was too young to be much of an interruption to the romance.

Has the dreaded epilogue sex BUT also a cute little twist, so I'll allow it.

Overall MUCH lower angst than I anticipated when I requested this ARC, but an okay read if you're feeling mellow. 3.5 rounded up.

As I read this series, I'm starting to see why it is I don't read many books with a billionaire/insanely rich MC. Either a) the rich guy's gonna look like he's trying to buy their love interest or try to use what they've done to blackmail or guilt them into staying OR b) the non-rich love interest is going to look like a gold digger or staying with the guy out of guilt or somehow wants them for their money/security/etc.

I liked Declan for the most part. I'm not great at having conversations, I prefer silence to awkward conversation (and a good portion of my conversations are awkward!), and I struggle in social settings. However....

****Slight Spoiler Alert****

Declan offered to pay Parker $10 million dollars to paint his rooms in original works! This is while admitting to not having seen his work before (though, yes Parker showed him some of his work just before he gave this outrageous offer) and not knowing anything about his standing in the art world. At least, I did not see any reference to Parker's standing in the art world. Did I miss that?? Parker isn't making a living off of it, so perhaps he's not worth that much???? And, Parker said yes!! I mean, I get it, why not say yes? But, come on now. That doesn't sound a little greedy?? I don't know anything really about the art world but paying a seemingly unknown that much money for this seems like you're trying to buy your man. And trying to keep him in your home....with you....

****Slight Spoiler Over****

I just....I'm struggling with this series because the imbalance never really seems to be taken care of in them. It's there, there's denial of wanting to be with the person who has money, despite taking that money, and yes, the grown-ass men have the right to spend their money how they see fit, but....*shrugs* it's a hard romance to write, an insanely rich person pairing with someone so far away from their monetary class. I don't imagine that I could ever do it well, not sure if it can be done well, but, this, while a sweet, easy read, isn't doing the greatest job, either. I shall continue on, as I sometimes struggle leaving a series (unless I absolutely cannot stand it), but I don't have high hopes for the last two.

OMG! I loved this book!!!

after the first book in this series, I was really looking forward to Declans book because silent brooding hero?! HELLLLOOOO, sign me up!

and Declan delivered .... he was perfect and I loved him. Don't tell my husband, but I want my own Declan - maybe he and my husband can find a compromise and we all have our HEA together ;-)

Parker was a bit too over the top at the beginning, and I thought the change, after Joy became his, was maybe a bit too sudden, but I really liked him and he was perfect for Declan.

the storyline was well done, the secondary characters were a hoot (I loved especially the butler and the chef )

I already know, that this will be a go-to book for rainy days and moody book-cravings

The Complication is the second in Jocelynn Drake's Executive Suite Secrets series. The books centre around 4 guys who have been friends since college or before. Now in their mid thirties they are finally finding love in the most unexpected places.

Declan is the billionaire CFO and Parker is just supposed to a weekend hook up, a way to let off some steam until everything is Parker's world falls apart and he suddenly finds himself with a daughter and without a home. Declan is a complex character. He is grumpy, unapproachable, stoic. He doesn't like people or social interactions, but he does like Parker. Parker is flirty, snarky, irreverent. He had so many plans, working to save a bit of cash so he could focus on his art. To be young, free and single until everything falls apart and he is completely overwhelmed and the most unlikely white knight rides to his rescue.

They made a fantastic couple - hot, steamy, romantic, misguided. Going about everything backwards. Lack of or miscommunication and fear made everything harder than it really needed to be. Add in interfering family and friends and you have moments of frustration and annoyance, a few tears and a lot of laugh out loud moments, but it was baby Joy who really stole the show.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.75 stars

This is the second book in the Executive Suite Secrets series by Jocelynn Drake and I liked it even more than the first. The Bargain set up the premise for the series: a group of very wealthy friends who find the loves of their lives. We were introduced to Declan in that book, so readers already got a taste of his character. He’s grumpy and stoic, but it’s because he doesn’t know how to “people” and isn’t good at small talk. He’s particular and exacting, but in that first book, we saw glimpses of his big heart.

The grand gesture was utter perfection, and I loved the moment so much. Really, this was a great book and I simply adore the characters, both MC and secondary alike. Declan and Parker fit together so well, and I was so very satisfied with their happy ending. I can’t wait to see what else Drake has in store for this series.

I found this one to charming, not what I would have expected to say about it as it opened with a hot sex scene. But it was Parker's life imploding and Declan right there to support him and all the changes in his life, that made me really want these two to find something real. As they were living together, spending time with Joy, I wanted them to be a family, could see that they would be happy. It irritated me when Parker's mom threw so much doubt at Parker, that he freaked out and needed space.

You could see that neither of them were thriving during this time. I liked that Declan talked to his friend to get advice and followed it. That text gave them the connection they needed. And as much as it sucked, I liked that it was Parker that made the moves for them to get back together and more. Loved seeing them all happy at the end.

The Complication by Jocelynn Drake is book 2 in Executive Suite Secrets series. We met Declan and Parker in the first book. In the beginning, they had a ‘fwb’ type of relationship though calling them friends was maybe stretching it. Parker soon finds himself with custody of his daughter after his best friend’s death. Declan steps up to help him out.

I really loved these two together though Declan was so cold in the beginning. It took me a while to warm up to him. However, he really loved Parker and Joy. It made me angry with the third act break-up (Parker’s mom gets the major side-eye from me), but once these two let themselves be happy it was so sweet. I am intrigued by Simon (Sawyer’s brother) and Pierce. What is going on there? I am also looking forward to Rome’s story. I am really enjoying this series!

Sweet fun and flirty all wrapped up in this story. Returning characters are always a plus so this adds that strength to an already strong book. Joy simply added her own precious joy. Some unforeseen situations that throw a wrench into their lives but the handling is superb. From beginning to end this book draws you in and every minute is worth the time spent. I swear one of the cutest most adorable, knight in shining armor books I've read. Truth be told I'm really not into baby stories, wholesomeness sometimes comes out too saccharin, but here it's so on point, well written and the baby is not the only adorable one. Declan is such a sweetheart to Parker's brattiness.
This had me smiling and laughing and in many cases saying "I really get you". Just so many things resonated with me.

so much love

I am thrilled for Declan to have the kind of love he deserves after a tough upbringing. Parker and Joy were exactly what Declan needed to shake up his strict structured routine. I feel so much for Parker and joy. Going through so much in such a short amount of time is traumatic and overwhelming. Declan being there for them was a godsend and who would have thought they would make a lovely family together. I love them.

For a man who was the quietest of his friend group, Declan was all heart in this book. I absolutely loved his and Parker's romance and all the twists and turns their journey entailed.

My heart broke for the losses Parker experienced in the beginning of this book -- to see life hit him with one tragedy after another felt devastatingly unfair. His little girl, Joy, was undoubtedly a joy, but Parker's sudden introduction to fatherhood had him spinning off course and scrambling to re-establish a status quo. Declan was a sturdy rock, a safe place to land when Parker felt adrift. Whether or not Declan realized it at the time, he needed the liveliness that Parker and Joy brought into his white, sterile home, and the three of them formed a wonderful family unit. It was so sweet to see how Declan showered Parker and Joy with gifts and affection, and I knew they would be safe and cared for as long as he was involved in their lives. It also warmed my heart to see Declan and Parker rekindle their physical relationship and give dating a try, and for two men who'd long protested they didn't need love they sure did have hearts in their eyes around each other. There were so many little moments of this story that I enjoyed -- seeing Parker meet and subsequently wrangle Declan's friends into submission, seeing Parker and Byron develop their own friendship, watching Declan and Parker take care of each other even as the plague swept through their house, seeing Declan go to Rome for advice about wooing Parker, and seeing Declan give his heart away to Joy even when he was terrified of children and didn't know how to take care of them.

And yet, for as much happiness and love as these men were feeling, Parker never took the time to grieve and process his emotions from the trauma he'd experienced. I don't think I fully realized the consequences of that until his mom gave him a wake up call, but in retrospect I don't think Parker and Declan could have continued moving forward without letting all of those emotions breathe. It was hard to see the two of them separate and uncertain, because neither of them had really done anything wrong, but Parker needed space to gain certainty that he could stand on his own two feet. I never really doubted what was in their hearts, but I still found myself tearing up in those last few cathartic chapters. It was wonderful to be able to witness the happiness Parker and Declan felt when they were together, and I especially loved that neither man had to go through a personality transplant to get their happy ending. Declan is still the stoic, taciturn man he always was, but there's an extra softness that's saved just for Parker and Joy, a tenderness in the way he treats them that projects his love even without him expressing it out loud. For me, the emotional connection is what made this story truly special, and it's how I know these men are going to live the rest of their lives together.

**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.

Everything I Want in a Book🩷

This is exactly the sort of book I can get lost in with wonderful characters, chemistry, sass, tragedy, a beautiful baby girl and lots of love. It brought a tear to my eyes and left me with a smile on my face.

Declan and Parker met in a bar, a hookup became regular hookups, then turned into friends with benefits and eventually love.

Parker was full of sass who loved to wind the quiet and grumpy Declan up. He was an artist but took a temporary job and found that his hookup was his new boss. Declan tried to keep everything professional but their chemistry proved too much for him to end the relationship. When a tragedy turned Parker’s world upside down it seemed to flick a switch in the seemingly cold Declan and he jumped in to help Parker. It was an absolute joy to see Declan melt when he met baby Joy and it only took her to smile at him and he was smitten. Another tragedy found Parker at rock bottom and worrying how he will care for Joy when Declan swoops in and takes care of everything. We see Declan come alive when caring for Parker and Joy and wanting to make them his forever.

I wanted to shake Parker after his mother put doubts into his mind but I could understand why he needed to know if his feelings for Declan were real or the result of circumstances and the wonderful comfortable life Declan had offered him and Joy. Their relationship hadn’t followed the traditional route and they had done everything backwards, dating after they were living together. I loved that Declan who, even with his three best friends hardly talks, but seeks their advice and support when his heart is broken and I loved the unique way he sets out to get his family back.

The book was well written, well paced and a page turner and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

I would like to thank GRR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

Awwww i really really liked this installment in the Executive Suite Secrets series! In fact, i actually liked The Complication a lot more than Sebastian and Byron's "bargain" romance, in that everything about this was zillionaire-knight-in-shining-armour swooping in and offering safety and comfort while bae worked through healing from immense tragedy!

The only part of this that was crunchy and ridiculous imo was Parker's "independent spirit". In this economy, girl, just accept a billionaire's generous spirit and his hot sexy ass and pull your head outta yours! Please be serious right now. There's a child to spoil. I don't understand this "refusing abundance" flex at all. Rich people with little to no quality show up for money all the time! So just say YES and go get yours, chile.

You're welcome!

Anyway, i thought The Complication was marvelous and SUPER sexy hot! Baby Joy was the most precious complication, and i loved that Declan was ride or die for Parker and Joy from Day 1! Declan just wanted to love on their little family, and it was sweet and beautiful and very very romantic how he poured into Parker's creative career dreams as well! We love lovers who love their lover's artistic aspirations and help them live their soul dimensions in a supportive reality!

I swooned so damn hard and i've not stop sighing since!

The Complication was yet another one of Jocelynn Drake's darling romances that was sweep-you-off-your-feet deliciousness that i'm pretty sure i'll be rereading at some point in the future! Can't wait for whatever's next for the rest of this awesome series because for me it just keeps getting better and better!

A grumpy cinnamon roll and the man he’d do anything for.

This story left me with so many emotions. I truly did not anticipate how the story of these men would unfold and I am so grateful for that because it was better than I could’ve imagined. After meeting Declan in book 1, I thought we were going to be on a roller coaster ride of angst and dealing with a man who was going to dismiss any sort of feelings. Oh, was I wrong. I should’ve known with the way Declan had tried to stand up for Byron in his own way in book 1 that we were dealing with an undercover cinnamon roll! His grumpy and brash attitude were strong initially and then this man turned to goo and jumped feet first into doing everything he could for the man he believed to be his and the baby girl who smiled her way into his heart. Even though he’s a precious cinnamon roll for Parker and Joy, Declan is still grumpy and quiet making Parker his perfect compliment. Parker was perfectly sassy from the start with a love for getting under Declan’s skin. He lost himself after the back to back tragedies that hit his life, but with Joy and Declan helping him, we saw him find himself again. Even in the chaos Parker still remained sassy and even brought out his claws to stand up for his quiet, grumpy man. These two were meant for each other and watching them build a beautiful and healthy relationship was the HEA the deserves even if they did the steps backwards according to the social norms. Their little family was so precious to see come together and I cannot wait to see what these men and their friends get into next!

THE COMPLICATION is the second book in the Executive Suite Secrets series, and although you don't have to read Book 1 (Sebastian and Byron), I would definitely recommend it simply because it's a brilliant story!!

This time we meet Declan and Parker, an opposites attract, grumpy/sunshine pairing that is just a way for them to get their rocks off initially. They have been meeting most weekends for a year now, but Parker's life changes in BIG ways all at the same time, which understandably leaves him floundering. While his family are there for him, the one who steps up the most is Declan.

I loved their story! How protective Declan was over Parker, and how it was reciprocated, too. There are moments of realism (Joy's diaper!) and moments of sheer romanticism that made my heart flutter. Parker's mum made me a little grumpy, even though her heart was in the right place, but it all worked out in the end.

A fantastic story with amazing supporting characters and a world I can't wait to return to. Absolutely brilliant and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by me.

Declan Foster had felt just a bit guilty pushing Sebastian so hard to move Byron laterally to become Declan’s PA. Sure, he would have loved to have Byron as his PA but he was really trying to protect Sebastain, CEO of Courtland, who knew that fraternization with employees in one’s department was a cardinal sin. It was too late, and Bryon had to leave for another job, a much better one that allowed him to move in with Sebastian. Now Sebastain is still suffering the fallout and Declan’s guilt stems from the fact that Parker Cain, his secret weekend hookup, had been hired as temp in his finance department. Since the contract was only 3 months, they had not broken off their relationship. With a week to go, said hookup’s best friend Molly died in a car wreck. Unbeknownst to Parker, Molly had willed her daughter Joy to him as he had donated the sperm for her single parent request and just like that Parker became a totally unprepared instant father. And Declan’s stone cold heart is turned to mush.,
First Parker gets busted with a six month old baby in his office and Declan buys her all the baby furniture and toys, then while Parker and Joy were out, his apartment building burned to a total loss and Parker broke his arm. And Declan rode to the rescue taking them into his home and his life.
Can be read as a standalone but Book one, the Arrangement, gives nice background

THE SECOND COUPLE IS JUST WOW!🤩 💕

The second book of the series gives us Declan’s hookup during Sebastian and Byron’s timeline that became more than he expected!

Declan Forster is a stoic quiet rich businessman who hardly smiles or jokes or even smirks right?

That is until funny, snarky yet sweet and sexy Parker Cain enters his dreary boring executive life and brings him sunshine, rainbows and a little princess he never knew he wanted or needed!

When tragedy strikes Parker twice the first person he turns to is Declan… this is where their journey to happiness starts….

They were just swoon worthy as a FWB situation-ship that turned into a relationship which evolved into a beautiful family!

I loved how Parker brought out the playful, protective side of Declan and how Declan spoilt his little princess and her father and made them feel safe, secure and happy!

Declan’s house assistant and chef were just adorable by how they catered to Joy’s every whim…

I did not care for Parker’s mother’s interference and loved the support and guidance they received from Sebastian, Byron, Rome and Pierce!

Rome is next with a certain arrangement…

I voluntarily received an ARC from GRR for an honest non biased review.

I’m enjoying this series, and loved Declan and Parker’s story. Catching up with Declan’s friends was a wonderful added bonus. Single dad stories are one of my favourite tropes, and I liked the spin on this one with Declan and Parker knowing each other before Parker’s situation changes.

I liked how, although their relationship, started off as weekends, and physical, there were already hints that both of them were developing feelings and wanting more. The banter between them, especially at work, is great, and I love how Parker brings out Declan’s softer side, and how Declan doesn’t think twice about being there for Parker and Joy, even through not so great times..

The friendships are a highlight of the story. I especially loved seeing Byron again, and how he and Parker form their own friendship. I liked seeing everyone from Declan’s perspective too. Donovan and Franks are wonderful. I love the family vibe throughout with Joy getting bonus uncles too.

I enjoyed the day to day with a young child and the realism of that complete with nasty day care bugs. I’d also recommend the bonus short story that takes place a few years later – it’s well worth the read and rounds out Declan and Parker’s sweet HEA.

Second in series (Executive Suite Secrets), but can be read as a standalone. Single dad. Opposites attract. Dual POV.

Parker has a good thing going with Declan, they hook up once a week no strings for some amazing fun, and because he got hired temporarily at Declan’s office he can tease the way too serious man all week long. Until Parker’s world is upended and he’s suddenly a full-time parent and homeless, that’s when Declan steps in and helps, with maybe a small hope of it becoming something more long term.

This story has some unexpected surprises that allowed Declan to become protective and caring, while giving Parker some much needed support and feeling of safety. I really enjoyed every moment of them together, the getting to know each other, the shared parenting, the super steamy interactions. Declan and Parker felt like complementary opposites, one gregarious the other not, and the fact that both men were leaning towards maybe exploring something more before circumstances brought them closer together made this seem like a forgone HEA. Some great supportive secondary characters and a sweet cutie of a baby rounded out this special gem of a book.

I loved this story so much! Parker was such a funny and snarky guy and he wanted more with Declan and Declan was so closed off with hidden depths and you knew he wanted more but couldn't ask for it. I was so moved when he stepped up to help Parker when his best friend Molly died and suddenly he had custody of his biological daughter and it was hilarious when Declan was confronted with a baby in Parker's temporary office at Courtland and having his PA Mrs Turner buy out the store with baby supplies. And then Parker lost everything when his apartment building burned down and his grief was for everything his friend Molly had picked out for baby Joy and all of his art. Declan of course invited him to stay at his house and it was so sweet how his staff, Francks and chef Donavan went out of their way to help. It was true that their relationship started out backwards and I know his mom meant well but Parker leaving and being on his own left both him and Declan bereft and loved the texts that they exchanged and Declan went to see him and Parker was miserable. I was so happy when they got back together and you knew they would be a wonderful family.

This book was okay, but not great. I admit I almost DNFed it while reading the first chapter, which started in the middle of a sex scene between the MCs. The book got better after that. I wish we had seen them a month or a week before the main "event" happened that threw Parker's life into chaos. We don't know what their relationship was like before. Parker thinks Declan hates him and is surprised Declan is being nice to him.
I'm not sure I buy them being in love. Declan is obsessed with Parker and wants to claim him. Parker feels a connection and is grateful for Declan's help. But he had to go through a few major changes in a short amount of time. I'm not sure that's love.
It was an ok, low angst story with a happy ever after.

Declan and Parker's love story is as sweet as any couple's can be. Who would have thought that silent and broody Declan can be the sweetest, caring and thoughtful partner and "father" anyone lucky can have? Parker didn't think so when they were still hooking up, but that was because it was just an arrangement of mutual agreement, nothing more, a convenience. But since his unfortunate life-changing events happened, Declan has been his anchor, the only stability his life is now holding on to.

Parker has been dealt a series of life-changing events that has turn his world upside down. He doesn't honestly know what to do after losing his best friend, gaining a daughter and losing his home. When he received a call from Declan, it was sort of a lifeline and he grabbed it.

A sweet love story between two people who never intended for their hookup to be more but fate has other things in mind for them. So sweet and beautiful! I truly love it so much!

Congratulations Ms. Jocelynn Drake!

What began as a no-strings weekend arrangement between Parker Cain and buttoned-up executive Declan Foster takes a sharp turn when Parker's world is turned upside down. One moment, he's teasing Declan at the office and enjoying their playful, secret fling; the next, he's a full-time single dad. Parker never envisioned he'd be raising a kid. When he becomes homeless after a fire, Declan surprises them both by stepping in without hesitation, offering his home and his heart in a way neither of them expected.

Their opposites-attract dynamic shines as Declan's ice-cold exterior begins to thaw under the weight of midnight feedings, baby giggles, and Parker's vibrant presence. Watching them evolve from casual lovers into something deeply intimate while navigating the chaos of unexpected parenthood feels natural, heartfelt, and utterly satisfying. Add in snarky humor, a found family, and a baby who steals every scene. The Complication becomes a story about taking risks, opening up, and finding forever in the last place you thought to look.

I couldn’t wait for this book to come out and it absolutely lived up to my expectations! I adored Declan! He was so incredibly sweet. On the outside he’s a quiet, contained man who rarely shows emotion. But when it comes to people he cares about, he has the biggest heart. He and Parker have been hooking up for a year, when tragedy strikes and Parker finds himself responsible for Joy, his infant daughter. If that isn’t enough, his apartment building burns down. Declan brings them both to his home and finds he likes having them there. I also loved Declan’s housekeeper and chef. It was so cute how quickly little Joy captured their hearts too. I wanted to smack Parker’s Mom for making him doubt himself and leave Declan. Thankfully, their separation is short, and Parker comes to his senses. This was a quick read because I couldn’t put it down! Declan and Parker were perfect for each other and put a smile on my face. I’m not sure what to expect from Rome’s book, but I’m looking forward to it.

If you are looking for a low-angst, sweet story, heavy on caretaking with great heat, look no further! The second book of Jocelynn's new series fits right into the theme of a 'billionaire boyfriend whose life turns upside down by their new partner'. Fun and flirty turns into precarious when Parker suddenly becomes responsible for a 6-month-old adorable baby girl. But how would that fit into the world of ever-so-serious (and rich) Declan who vehemently opposed having kids? I really liked how these two worked through their ever-evolving relationship and everything life threw at them. Liked the little twists and surprises, adored the dynamics of the brotherhood Declan has with his friends, and was happy to see all the previous characters I'm familiar with. Also, I'm a sucker for artist MCs who use their medium to express their true feelings. Looking forward to seeing the next boy falling in love!

4.5/5 This was a lot of fun. Parker is a pushy riot, and I enjoyed how he got under Declan’s skin (mostly in a good way) and helped him connect with the world. Joy really is a joy, and I loved her and the uniting factor she provided. Declan keeps most people at a distance, and it’s fun to watch him melt in the face of a baby and the dad who need his help.

The big conflict felt a little contrived to me, but it’s true that emotions were very high and there were a ton to face-paced, life-altering changes happening, so maybe the MCs weren’t really at their best. Thank goodness for Byron and Rome! I was glad to see how everything resolved.

Franks and Donovan and their love for Joy made me happy. Declan’s bottomless wallet when it came to Joy made me laugh. I liked how the baby was the great leveller for everyone. They all really came together.

Looking forward to more!
