Here we are. Back with Amanda Steele in Dead Woman Walking, Book 15, and this time it hits close to home. Amanda's half brother is dating Christine Lane, a realtor and the murder victim. Carolyn Arnold is quit to set the hook and that is only one of the reasons I love her books so much. She is great at taking us step by step, through the investigation.

The owner of the house where Christine Lane was found is Dominique Sharp, a lawyer who has a long line of disgruntled employees and so many secrets and a trail that leads to the killer. Could Christine's murder be a case of mistaken identity?

Carolyn Arnold has a way with words. The short chapters make for an easy read with the mystery set at a steady pace. She has a way of creating doubt, when it comes to flushing out the villain. She calls in help from characters that appear in other series she writes. So, brace yourself for another great read in the Amanda Steele series.

In Dead Woman Walking by Carolyn Arnold, Detective Amanda Steele’s relationship with her half-brother has always been strained, so when the woman he was dating is found dead, Amanda doesn’t hesitate. She knows she has to stand by him. As the person closest to the victim, he quickly becomes the primary suspect, and Amanda is determined to uncover the truth before it’s too late.

Throwing herself into the investigation, Amanda uncovers a troubling possibility. The victim, Christine Lane, may have simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time. The real target appears to be Dominique Sharp, a homeowner whose house was on the market and being shown while she was away on business. With this shift in perspective, Amanda refocuses her efforts, realizing that understanding Dominique’s life could be the key to unraveling the case.

This is far from an easy investigation for Amanda. The deeper she digs, the more personal and costly the case becomes. Still, her relentless pursuit of justice drives her forward, no matter the toll.

What I really appreciated about this story is how it blends a compelling mystery with Amanda’s personal stakes. The tension never lets up, and the emotional weight behind her choices adds an extra layer of depth. By the time the truth comes to light, it feels well-earned and satisfying. This is another solid installment that kept me engaged from beginning to end, and it’s clear that Amanda Steele’s determination is what makes this series so hard to put down. I look forward to the 16th book in the series, which is set for release in August.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

A new book in this fantastic series is always something to look forward to, because you already know in advance
that you will be swept away by the smooth writing style and the author’s excellent creative mind.

Loyal readers know that Amanda has a half-brother, but their relationship is far from warm. When he does call on her for help, however, she sets those feelings aside
and, with her boss’s approval, she and Trent start investigating.

All roads lead to Rome, as the saying goes, but here the evidence seems to point straight at her half-brother…

Amanda and her partner begin digging deeper…

Amanda and Trent put in long hours, but they don’t let go until they have uncovered everything down to the very bottom.

Amanda is once again confronted with herself when it comes to her personal life. Maybe what I’ve been waiting and hoping
for for quite some time will finally happen?

Tragic events often bring people closer together, because they force you to face the fact that life is short.

So yes, once again it was reading pleasure with a capital R.

Tension, emotions, and goosebump moments. If that’s what
you’re looking for, you’ll find this book a real winner—just like I did.
5 stars.

*BLOG TOUR POST*

Firstly thank you to Bookouture for asking me to be a part of the amazing book tour for Carolyn Arnold's latest book in the Detective Amanda Steele series, Dead Woman Walking.

I can't believe we are already in to book #15 of the series, it still feels just as fresh, exhilarating and completely unputdownable as the very first book.

This fast became one of my all time favourite series and is still very much so, so if it's not a series you have come across yet or one that's been sat in your TBR pile gathering dust, dive in and then kick yourself for not starting it sooner!

For those who have followed the series, we all know about Amanda's half brother Spencer, the secret child of her father. They don't have the best relationship, having not known about each other until more recently but it's something Amanda hopes can be rectified with time.

In book #15, Amanda recieves a call from Spencer asking for help. He can't get hold of his partner Christine and is worried something has happened to her. Putting aside their relationship and with approval from her boss, she and her partner Trent start investigating.

When a body is found, that of Christine, everything seems to point to Spencer, Amanda wants to believe his innocence but she also has to follow protocol but can she do that without damaging their relationship further?

When the murder turns out to be a case of mistaken identity, wrong place, wrong time, Amanda and Trent need to back peddle and try to recoup any time wasted and find the killer, now known to be the so called Anaconda Killer, a hired contract serial killer.

This installment has a host of characters, both likeable and unlikeable which added a huge element to this book. The blunt, egotistical, frustrating and stubborn character of Dominique actually set my teeth on edge 😅

The plot is full of both professional and personal relationships and layers which build up throughout and as always secrets, lies and deception are a part of the story.

I adore the creative genius of the author's mind and her writing style is so beautifully smooth that each installment just flows seamlessly and blends straight into the next book so, personally, I think it's a series that should be read from the very start, to get a real feel for the characters and backstory.

Huge thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Dead Woman Walking, book 15 in the Detective Amanda Steele series, delivered everything I’ve come to expect from Carolyn Arnold: tight pacing, layered tension, and a mystery designed to keep you reading long past your bedtime. It’s a suspenseful installment that keeps you on edge while providing clues that deepen the intrigue.

This case hits close to home for Detective Amanda Steele. With her half-brother Spenser emerging as a prime suspect, Amanda works to prove she can stay objective or face removal from the case. Despite their distant relationship, Amanda cannot reconcile the idea that he could be guilty, but she knows better than to let emotion override hard evidence.

The victim, Christine Lane, a realtor, is found murdered in the very home she was trying to sell. Spenser becomes a person of interest due to their intimate relationship. But as Amanda and Detective Trent Stenson push deeper into the evidence, a startling truth emerges: Christine wasn’t the intended target. She was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. The real target was the property’s owner, attorney Dominique Shaw.

From there, the investigation becomes even more tangled. Ms. Shaw’s long list of professional enemies—and her reluctance to cooperate—creates a sprawling suspect pool. Each lead adds new complications, forcing Amanda and Trent to sift through a maze of motives.

The twists and turns are plentiful, and the tension never lets up. Additionally, the nail-biting moments, emotional stakes, and cleverly constructed mystery make Dead Woman Walking a standout addition to the series. Ultimately, uncovering the who and the why kept me fully engaged from start to finish.

Dead Woman Walking delivered exactly what I look for in this series: steady tension, smart detective work, and an engaging storyline. The personal stakes added an extra layer of urgency, and the twists landed in all the right places. By the end, I felt satisfied with how the pieces came together. Another strong, engaging installment that reminds of the reason I keep returning to Amanda Steele’s worldThis review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

Dead Woman Walking - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

Carolyn Arnold's excellent crime-thriller Dead Woman Walking begins with the murder of a realtor at a late evening showing. Four days later her body's found and  Detectives Amanda Steele and Trent Stenson spring into action.
Among the suspects is a relative of Amanda's, but the uncooperative attitude of the intended victim makes progress slower than she or anyone wants.
After more danger there's still a lot of work to be done to tie up the loose ends and get justice for all victims, ahead of an HEA you won't want to miss.

The story kicks off with a tense, atmospheric opening…. a realtor preparing a luxury home for a nighttime viewing, only to realize she’s not alone…..

The murder of Christine Lane hits close to home for Detective Amanda Steele when it’s revealed the victim was dating Amanda’s half brother, immediately putting him in the suspect spotlight. (Oooooh prime suspect)

Amanda knows he’s innocent, but proving it means diving into a tangled web of secrets tied to successful lawyer Dominique Sharp, the home’s owner, whose business dealings reveal disgruntled employees and a vengeful killer. (Ooooh 🫣)

I liked how the balance of personal stakes with classic police procedural elements was done. Amanda’s relationships (including with her partner Trent) add emotional moments, while the investigation ramps up with twists, red herrings, and high tension moments. The plot builds relentlessly toward a risky confrontation, keeping me turning those pages late into the night. 🥱

Whether you’re new to the series (like I am) or a longtime reader, this one will keep you guessing until the final reveal.

I’ve not read an of the previous books, and it doesn’t really matter, as each story is different. But I’m definitely going back to read a few more.

I’d happily watch this as a movie or a mini series, as long as it’s not changed in anyway. 🤨

Highly recommended for anyone craving a totally addictive crime thriller!

A woman is murdered in a case of mistaken identity by a contract killer known as the Anaconda Killer, who wraps their victims in a tarp. The body is discovered by a robot vacuum which was a first for me!
The intended target lawyer Dominique Sharp character is pretty stubborn and her refusal for help made her pretty frustrating to read at times. As the investigation unfolds the story spirals into a rabbit hole of business dealings, embezzlement and the true identity of the hitman.

Murder for hire

Why would anyone want to kill a real estate agent? Christine Lane didn't seem to have any enemies that would go to the lengths of hiring a contract killer. Turns out that there is more than meets the eye as Amanda and Trent work through the twists and turns to find the answers.
Carolyn Arnold never fails to keep you guessing who the villain is until the end.

From the very beginning of this series, I have been captivated by each case, as well as Amanda's personal and professional growth. Her relationships with coworkers, boss, and family have often been strained by not only her actions, but theirs, too. This book focuses on the half-brother she has only recently learned of. Considering the victim of her newest case is his girlfriend, more tension and strain is added to an already thin thread between them.

The victim is an innocent woman, caught in a moment of someone else’s violence. Her murder was meant for the homeowner -- a successful, yet uncooperative lawyer. She doesn't seem to be concerned that someone is after her, which makes Amanda and Trent's job even more difficult. With each lead, the partners discover that everyone has a secret they are desperate to keep under wraps. Trying to fit all the pieces together puts your brain to the test in who is behind the hired killer. Discovering that the killer had numerous hits under their belt and was hired from the dark web added even more intrigue.

If you are like and enjoy getting a front row seat to the crime and investigation, you are going to want to read this entire series. I also love that we get to catch up with side characters, find a bit of healing, and foreshadowing of what is next for Amanda!

It’s been quite some time since I’ve visited Detective Amanda Steele and I’m so glad, I was able to catch up on her life in Carolyn Arnold’s “Dead Woman Walking.”

While “Dead Woman Walking” wasn’t one of the best book I’ve had the pleasure of reading involving Detective Steele, it was nice to see she’s grown more and isn’t scared to fight back. She puts her foot down and doesn’t take no for an answer. When a real estate agent is murdered, she is quick to figure out the murder doesn’t line up with its surrounding and that the murder was actually intended for someone else.

Even though this book didn’t meet my expectations unfortunately, I’m so glad to have the opportunity to get back on track of the life of Detective Steele. A lot has happened since the last time I read a book from this series and I look forward to continuing to follow her journey.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the eARC of “Dead Woman Walking” (Book 15 in the Detective Amanda Steele’s series).

I love this series and this one is a cracker. Amanda and Trent must race against time to catch a killer before they strike again. But why is one person so against helping them?

This is a great read and I flew through it in one day. I can't wait to read more.

Dead Woman Walking is a fast-paced, crime thriller that kept me hooked from the first chapter. The story opens with a shocking case and quickly pulls you into a race against time as Detective Amanda Steele tries to uncover the truth before another woman dies.

The pacing is excellent, and the plot is layered with secrets, danger, and urgency. Just when you think you know where it’s going, the story throws in another turn. The author does a great job balancing police work with suspense and character development.

Overall, this was a gripping and satisfying read for fans of crime fiction and police procedurals. I’ll definitely be continuing the Detective Amanda Steele series.

First of all I would like to thank the amazing author of this story which is instalment 15 for her Detective Amanda Steele series which I have been reading for the last few years, as well as Bookouture publishers and Netgalley. When I seen in my emails that I was accepted to read this arc I had put down my book I was reading on my kindle and jumped straight into it excited because this is what I have been waiting for since reading book 14.

Once again I love the way that Carolyn plans out her books, the plots are always well put together and the details for those always fit in so well and make the book so unputdownable. She always makes the characters in a way that you fall in love with them, especially Amanda you can't help the way you feel about her and I love her character the best. She has been through so much and this book had some points that really do hope happen in the future of this series!

I've always loved Amanda and that the character of who she is, she is amazing at her job and she loves the team she works with while also they all respect her. And something that we learn in this part of the series is her actual true feelings, after everything that she has been through and the fighting and work she has done to make her be who she is, I just want her to have the happiness that she wants and deserves.

What was a murder had turned out to be a mistaken victim, someone who was innocent and in the wrong place at the wrong time. With the actual victim being hunted, she won't be safe until they catch the murderer and hopefully not to many innocent people are hurt in the mean time while they figure out who is committing the crimes.

The suspect has been identified as a paid dark web serial killer, who has already done many kills before, this is where I was so surprised as we haven't had this plot before involving the dark web. This book (well to be honest the whole series) is one of those thrillers where you will be drawn into the story & you will have so many issues with not only being able to not put down you kindle or kobo. But this is a unputdownable, suspenseful, thrilling and exciting book (series).

I have said this before and I will say it again for anyone knew who is reading my blog at this point in time, but if you want a series where you will be able to enjoy a good plot, and a series where you will read the first book and then the second book will start off where it last finished. Yes you heard me Carolyn is one of those writers who will finish one book and start the next book where it was left off at the end of the last one, none of this skip 6 months, 12 months, 1 year or 5 years. Then this is the series that you need to read, and I shall admit you need to look at her other detective series as they're the same and they are really good books just the same as her Detective Amanda Steele series.

Everything is so well described, so well planned. The descriptions of the murders, the injuries and so on are described with so much descriptions that sometimes it's enough to make you sick. They're always so well disrupted that you can picture it, the information is always explained as well especially those big medical words that have you like what in the world is that.

Dead Woman Walking is the fifteenth book in the Detective Amanda Steele series by Carolyn Arnold. This series is set in Woodbridge, Virginia. Amanda and her partner Trent Stenson find the body of Christine Lane in an affluent neighborhood in a house for sale by lawyer Dominique Sharp. It turns out Christine and Amanda’s half-brother Spencer have been dating. As Amanda and Trent delve into the backgrounds of Christine and Dominique, secrets are discovered. Who was the intended victim and who is the killer?

Amanda is determined to get justice for victims and tends to get immediately to the point at a crime scene which doesn’t always endear her to others. She’s sensitive but not soft, inquisitive, resilient, strong, capable, struggles with work-life balance, and tends to rush ahead without back-up at times. She also fears overlooking some crucial detail in a case. Trent is loyal, funny, and always has Amanda’s back. He grounds her when she needs it and is often the voice of reason. He values honesty and views work as a calling, not a day job.

The story is full of personal and professional layers and relationships. It focuses on the investigation, but brings in what is happening in Amanda’s and Trent’s personal lives. It has an air of mystery and suspense, but the antagonist behind the murder was too easy to discern. Despite this, I was engaged from start to finish. As always, the prologue is chilling and the epilogue wraps things up nicely. The recurring characters grow more dynamic in each new novel as readers learn more about their personal and professional lives. Themes of family, relationships, secrets, murder, and much more are woven into the storyline. My biggest quibble is that Amanda was allowed to be the lead investigator on a case where her half-brother was dating the victim.

Overall, this is an entertaining and fast-paced crime thriller with great characterization and some heart-breaking moments as well as some heart-warming scenes. I can’t wait to find out what is next for Amanda and Trent. This series is best read in order to fully understand the backstories of the main characters. However, it would also work as a standalone. It’s a must-read for those who enjoy mysteries, crime thrillers, and police procedurals.

Bookouture and Carolyn Arnold provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own. Publication date is currently set for February 25, 2026.

Dead Woman Walking by Carolyn Arnold is a highly recommended procedural and the 15th book in the Amanda Steele series set in Woodbridge, Virginia. This continues to be an excellent series.

Detective Amanda Steel and her partner Trent Stenson are investigating the murder of Christine Lane, a real estate agent. After Amanda's half-brother Spencer calls her worried because he can't get a hold of his girlfriend, Christine, she and Trent get permission to look into it. Their inquiry results in Christine's body being found in a house she was showing. Spencer is immediately on the suspect list, along with others, because of his relationship with her. The house where the body was found is owned by caustic lawyer Dominique Sharp, who certainly also has enemies.

The Amanda Steel series continues to be a well-written, excellent series of procedurals. The novel moves at a fast pace and is well plotted as the investigation logically follows clues and discoveries. The tension increases as the investigation continues to look at new suspects, lines of inquiry, and unexpected information. Even though this is the 15th book in the series, it can be appreciated as a standalone novel, especially for fans of procedurals who are carefully following the investigations rather than personalities.

At this point fans of the series know Amanda and Trent, but those new to it will appreciate the intelligent, likable characters. They always logically follow the lades provided by the information they discover. This wasn't my favorite case the two have solved, but it is always enjoyable to join in one of their investigations.

Dead Woman Walking is a great choice for readers who enjoy fast-paced, engaging police procedurals. Thanks to Bookouture for providing me with an advance reader's copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary and expresses my honest opinion.

Realtor, Christine Lane is waiting at the house she is trying to sell for a showing. She knows it is risky to be in an empty house late at night, especially as she hasn't told anyone she will be there, when someone fires three shots into her body. On Monday morning, Amanda receives a call from her half-brother, Spencer, that he hasn't heard from his girlfriend since the previous week and he is worried, especially as her phone is turned off and that's her lifeline. After a few questions and a search, she is found in the house she was showing. It is an odd scene, and no one seems to think anyone would want to kill her. Of course, Spencer is the first suspect, but Amanda is sure that he's not a killer. While investigating the murder, the owner of the house, Dominique Sharp arrives home from a trip to DC. She is a defense lawyer, cutthroat and rather brusque. She isn't happy not to be allowed into her house, but does to stay with her boyfriend. After more investigations, it seems to Amanda that Christine may have been collateral damage and that Dominique is the target.

I have been enjoying this series and this was another wonderful addition to the series. This was an interesting case for Amanda and Trent, and it seemed the more they dug, the more complicated the case became. It seems that Dominique had many enemies, people she defended that were found guilty, people who she defeated in other trials and even people at the legal firm in DC that she was buying up, at a steal. Trent and Amanda are a great team, they bounce ideas off each other, pick up on interviews that are going south, and support each other when times are tough. There were a lot of twists and unexpected happenings that kept me glued to this one. I wanted to find out who and why someone wanted Dominque dead. I read this one in one day, staying up late to see how it would all play out. If you enjoy a good police procedural with lots of twists and turns, I highly recommend this book and series.

Dead Woman Walking is the fifteenth book in the Amanda Steele series. All of the books in this series can be stand-alone reads. But I must say, you are really missing something special if you have not started at the beginning. To be honest I love Carolyn Arnold. The way she writes and draws you into the story from the first few pages is truly special.

This one begins with a realtor preparing to show a high-end house which would bring her the commission that would help her and her daughter, in addition to the attention she hopes to gain from the owner of the real estate office. As she moves from room to room making sure that everything is ready, she discovers a masked person with a gun. Three shots later her life is ended and her daughter's life forever changed.

Amanda and Trent are preparing to face what looks like to be a less busy day, when she gets a call from her brother. His girlfriend is missing. Amanda doesn't think this is as important until he says she is a realtor whose phone is going to voicemail. This in itself is not a big deal, but a realtor's phone being off is the kiss of death to her business. Amanda and Trent begin to make the calls and backtrack the realtors last few moments to a house she was going to show on Friday evening. After making the right calls they enter the home to find the missing realtor.

This story is a very fast-paced. many twists and turns that keep the reader guessing. It is well written and will keep you turning the pages until the very end. As I said the writing is very special and is easy to follow along. It is a fantastic read which I stayed up late to finish. I couldn't leave it until the next morning!! I highly recommend this series, and Carolyn Arnold. You won't be disappointed.

Dead Woman Walking by Carolyn Arnold begins with her newly discovered half-brother reaching out to Amanda because he can’t get ahold of his girlfriend. With nothing else going on, Amanda and Trent decided to give it a look. After trying her home, with no answer, they quickly moved on to the house she had been showing Friday night (she’s a realtor) where they found her car in the drive. They tried the front with no response so they walked to the back where they found a sliding door cracked open. They entered and found nothing but a chemical smell. As they climbed the stairs they began to hear an odd sound. As they entered the master bedroom they smelled decay and followed the sound to a robo-vacuum trying to suck down a plastic tarp. They had found their victim.

This got complicated fast when the CSI team arrived and it was not Amanda’s favorite. As soon as the body was identified, Amanda and Trent went to her brother, Spencer’s, house to inform him and ask him questions. It was not long before he was the primary suspect. It got complicated as they changed their perspective and started to make progress. The relationship between Amanda and Trent is becoming increasingly difficult despite the fact that both are in relationships with other people. This murder brought her father’s illicit relationship to the forefront of her mind and she was increasing uncomfortable with him despite the fact it was thirty years earlier. The entire department got involved with this investigation including the both the techs and the financial folks. It was an intriguing investigation and an interesting story.

Detectives Steele & Stenson (and their friendship wrought with romantic tension) are back in another installment of a killer series. In this book, Steele & Stenson are thrown into the investigation of the murder of one of the top real estate agents in the county when she is found dead inside a home she was showing late on a Friday Night. Far from a burglary gone wrong, the Detectives find themselves diving into something much more complicated with a much broader reach than they could have imagined.

I am a sucker for this series so I'm biased, but I loved this one. Each book in the series has a case that's unique and complicated without being unbelievable, that keeps you flying through the action without making you feel like you're in a Fast and the Furious movie. The character development is my favorite thing in this series though. In Book One we meet Amanda on the heels of a problem with addiction in the aftermath of the tragic loss of her husband, daughter, and unborn baby, and now as we conclude Book Fifteen, Amanda has worked on herself and gotten to a place where she has both a fulfilling life and a job she loves. It's a slow, grueling climb and it's done so well. This book is going to hit hard with people who miss 'The X-Files' and 'Bones' or with any reader looking for a series they can settle into, but the genius of the writing is that you can read any of the books and they stand alone, so if one of them appeals to you, start there and I guarantee you'll be buying the whole series.

So much love for this series and this author, cannot wait for what's next for these characters!

Prince William County (VA) Detective Amanda Steele is contacted by her half brother because the woman he has been seeing, Christine Lane, a realtor, is missing. Amanda and her detective partner Trent discover her dead body in a house that she was supposed to show a potential buyer. Naturally, suspicion falls on the lover of the victim and the pressure is on for Amanda to prove that her half brother, with whom she has a rocky relationship, is innocent.

The possible motive for the killing expands when Amanda meets the high powered defense attorney who owns the house. Could Christine have been the victim of mistaken identity?

Although this is the fifteenth in the Amanda Steele series and I have read many of them, it can be read as a standalone. Carolyn Arnold’s writing is known for fast-paced, suspenseful mysteries, and I always reserve one of her books for a day when I have nothing scheduled, knowing that I won’t be able to put it down.

Amanda is a strong, capable, independent female protagonist. Although she can be tough when needed, she has compassion and empathy in her heart. Despite their undeclared attraction for each other, Amanda and Trent make a great investigative team.

If you’re a fan of police procedurals with well-written, flowing stories and good character development, I highly recommend checking out this series.

This story will have you guessing “who dun it” almost through to the final chapter. Detective Amanda Steele is asked, by her half-brother, Spencer, to check on a woman he has been dating. She is a realtor and he is concerned when he is unable to contact her. Amanda and her partner, Trent Stenson, arrive at a home for sale and find her, dead. Of course, Amanda has to suspect everyone involved in the woman’s life, including Spencer. The owner of the home is a criminal lawyer, Dominique Sharp, who admits that she has many enemies due to her career as well as closing her firm and purchasing another firm which will involve the layoff of employees. As they investigate the employees at her firm as well as the firm she is purchasing, they begin to believe that she was the intended target, but she doesn’t seem to be concerned. When another attempt is made at her home, a man is shot and the killer gets away. They now believe that this may be a targeted hit and not a disgruntled client and ask the FBI for assistance on a possible “for hire” killer who has a similar M.O. Finally getting a hit, they hope to lure the killer to the residence, end the threat and hopefully put a killer out of business. A mystery with continuing characters and a story line that will capture the reader from the very first page! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. If a book has this author's name on it, I know I better find a comfy place to read and forget about life for several hours because I will not be satisfied until I see the final page of the book.

Detective Amanda Steele is a justice seeker, a hero in blue who fights for the underdog. She will fight to the death for victims and their families to make sure someone pays for the crime. This is why she is one of my favorite fictional detectives. This particular case gets very personal for her, which brings out another side to her well-rounded personality.

The beginning scene is chilling, sinister and gruesome. As I was reading and realized where they found the body, I knew it was going to be a bumpy road filled with excitement and twists.

This wickedly wonderful crime thriller gets more complex by the page, but in the fine fashion that I have come to love from this author, everything comes together neatly at the end. As far as police procedurals/mysteries go, you can't get any better than the Detective Amanda Steele series. This installment is another winner.

The mystery is always spot on, but the characters really do make the difference in this book and make it pleasant to read.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Dead Woman Walking is the latest, thrilling installment - book 15 - in the fabulous Detective Amanda Steel series by the equally fabulous Carolyn Arnold.

When real estate agent Christine is found murdered in the home she was set to show to a couple, Amanda is left bewildered. Since Christine was the girlfriend of her half-brother, Amanda must heed her boss's instructions and step back from questioning him, despite their limited connection. The homeowner, Dominique, is a criminal lawyer used to getting her way and is unwilling to comply even though Amanda and Trent believe that Dominique may have been the real target not Christine! Can Amanda and Trent get to the bottom of the case before there are more victims of the murderer?

Once again, Carolyn has smashed it! I am always astounded at the impact the stories have on me and wonder whether she can top the previous books - the answer is a resounding yes! While I can't speak to the realism of the storylines from my perspective in the UK, they certainly feel lifelike! She perfectly captures Amanda’s personality, and I truly hope she finds happiness with Trent! They seem perfect for each other, though this might require some adjustments in their professional life. May we continue to enjoy Detective Amanda Steel novels for a long time! I absolutely love them, and I recommend you give them try.

Two hard working women, Christine Lane, a realtor who was the top in her office and Detective Amanda Steele. Each a single parent. Lane is divorced with a teen daughter and Steele is widowed with an adopted daughter in elementary school. On a Friday night Christine had shown one house then received a call to show a huge, high priced home in an elite neighborhood. She usually did not show homes after 9PM however she was out and the selling price was worth the journey. Her daughter was out with friends at a cabin, no reason to get home early. The owner, Dominique Sharp, a lawyer, was out of town. If it sold, the wait would be well worth the time. Days later Lane received a call requesting a welfare check. She and her partner grabbed a coffee at a fave cafe and headed to the house.
Dead Woman Walking will be published on February 25, 2026 by bookouture. I was able to read and review Arnold’s latest novel via NetGalley. This was my first read by the author and the first of her Detective Amanda Steele series.Wow! It was surprisingly full of suspense from start to finish and really creepy but an excellent mystery. With each police intel report odd things happened. It is excellent and a great read for mystery lovers.

I found this latest book in the Author's Detective Amanda Steele series a bit
of a disappointment .
The start was good , an Estate Agent is murdered at a house she is due to show ,
unfortunately for Amanda she turns out to be her half-brother's girlfriend , which
automatically puts him in the frame .
Determined to exonerate him she soon realises that the Estate Agent was not the murderer's
true target ........... an arrogant lawyer was . Such is her arrogance and her unwillingness to assist
with investigation , her own boyfriend becomes a victim
From this point I found the story did not flow , it went in jumps and starts ; the reasoning behind
the various motives of the characters involved were convoluted/unbelievable at times ; especially the Lawyer's
But I found the Assassin the most unbelievable character - for one so experienced she was so easily captured !!
One other thing that irritated me was the relationship between Amanda and Trent , that is ,that ,
even though they both have partners now the jealousy element continues to raised ........ the will they
or won't they has started to become an issue to me that detracts from the stories .
.
.I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

I received an ARC through "NetGalley" and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

The story begins with Amanda receiving a call from Spencer, her half-brother, regarding the fact that he hadn't heard from Christine, his girlfriend, for several days and wanted her help to look into it. Amanda begins and eventually follows up with a visit to a home that Christine was to show for a client. On arriving at the house, she and Tent discovered Christine's body. Now Amanda had a murder and eventually wound up bringing Spencer to the station as a suspect. Eventually after determining that anything associated with Christine was not leading anywhere and that she would need to look at the murder differently.

Amanda then began looking into the possibility that Dominique, the client whose house Christine was showing. Shortly thereafter Joel, Dominique's lover, was shot and later died. Amanda and Trent then began searching for who might want Dominique dead.

Follow along and learn what efforts the two made as they gathered clues which eventually led to the killer. Discover who was the killer and what person wanted Dominique dead, The ending sums the story up nicely.

This is another great story in the series and well worth the read. Don't miss out!

Dead Woman Walking is another great addition to this very good series. I really like the main character, Detective Amanda Steele and her work partner Trent Stenson. They work very well together and complement each other's strengths. The book hits the ground running with a brutal murder at the start. Steele and Trent investigate it and the case becomes personal for Steele when she has to interview someone known to her. The story is well written and engaging and the plot very well thought out with lots of threads that certainly held my attention and interest. I love how the author includes snippets of the characters personal lives without taking anything away from the main story. I felt the ending was a little to rushed for my liking though but it did give good closure. My two gripes with this read are: would Steele be allowed to work on a case that involved someone she knew, and would Stenson be allowed to interview a suspect whilst in hospital himself - surely he would be on sick leave? Apart from these two minor things that I thought were a bit unrealistic this is a very good read that I'd recommend.

What's the murder motive? So many possibilities!🏡

4-4.5🌟
This murder mystery is really a tangled jumble of threads, opening with a divorced mom realtor gunned down in an upscale home she was preparing to show. Amanda Steele and her partner see little evidence of anyone with an axe to grind to the extent that they'd kill her. The homeowner is a cutthroat attorney who seems to, on the other hand, have few people who don't have a grudge against her. But the author does an excellent job of keeping the suspense going and the motive and killer hidden for most of the story's length.

Lots of leads to follow in an investigation that includes a competitive rival realtor, romantic partners past and present, some not so nice legal defense criminal types, disgruntled employees, suspect accounts and a suspicion that the killer is no amateur. And a central figure presumed target who seems totally oblivious to her own mortality. Kept me involved and speculating along: always the signs of a cleverly crafted mystery for me. Good reading.

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
