She thought she knew her husband. She was wrong. Twenty-eight days ago, my life was perfect. A husband who still made me laugh, two beautiful kids, and a gorgeous house in Savannah that felt like forever.
Two days later, he was gone...swallowed by the water while our children watched.
Everyone calls it a tragic accident. But accidents don’t leave notes from other women in their pockets. They don’t carve question marks into your soul.
And they don’t bring his other wife to your door.
I’m trying to move on. To hold it together for my kids. To bury the choices I made the night before he disappeared—the ones I can’t let anyone discover. But when a private investigator shows up with questions I can’t answer and eyes that see too much, I’m caught between attraction and suspicion...between the truth he’s chasing and the secrets I can’t afford to share.
Because as the lies surface, I’m realizing the wife, the mother, the safe version of me is almost gone. And what’s left might be far more dangerous than anyone expects.
Mira Shaw delivers obsession, betrayal, and dangerous attraction in Almost Gone—book one of a gripping psychological thriller series that will haunt fans of Verity and The Housemaid. Join the Final Chapter Book Club...but the truth is murky, the water is deep, and secrets refuse to drown.
Bravo!! This was a very well written, well planned, well developed story indeed. You think you know where this is going, and you would be wrong.
Blythe and Quinton's marriage of almost a decade is not what it seems at all. This was a twisted tale that will keep you wondering what's next all the way to the end. I can't wait for the next book in this series.
Were there some editing and minor issues, I would say yes, and I am a stickler for holding an author to a certain standard. However, the issues faded as the story unfolded, and I am very happy to say that if she can keep doing what she did in this first book of the series, the rest will only get better.
*Thank you to author Mira Shaw for accepting me on your content creator team! Thank you for the gifted book!
Dare, dupe, “special”…
In a blink of an eye, an accident at the beach will change Blythe’s life forever. She and her 2 young children Jack and Jolie move to Whisper Island when Blythe accepts an interim job.
Sometimes in life what may look like one thing can be another thing. A person’s “outward behavior or persona often masks their true character, emotions, or intentions.”
What (and how) she learns about her husband Quinton will astonish her. As his mother taught him - “if you are special, you make people hand it to you with a smile.”
And Quinton is VERY special…
THOUGHTS:
*Twisty! I guessed the twist at the end of part 1. The other twists were jaw-dropping! Disbelief…
*CHARACTERS: IMO
Blythe- stronger than she thinks Quinton - a cad. I was hoping for some revenge! Constance - on a power trip / ego-driven
*Liked the description of the kids Jack & Jolie
Jolie - “a wrecking ball with glitter sandals” Jack - “a diplomat with Velcro sneakers”
“A live wire and a quiet hum”
As a kindergarten teacher, just let me say , “BEEN THERE!”
*I didn’t think the relationship between Tucker & Blythe fit in with the rest. (Very short part of the book )
*Book 1 of the series The Final Chapter Book Club.
Many thanks to the author for sending me a copy of her book to share my thoughts.
📘 INSIDE THE PAGES
This is a story of a seemingly perfect life that suddenly implodes. When Blythe's husband drowns she discovers that her life is full of holes she had no idea existed. Blythe needs to move on for her children but shocking revelations pull her deeper into a web of betrayal.
🌟 MY THOUGHTS
This is the first in a three part series, a solid debut that shows real promise. The plot is pretty explosive and got my attention straight away with sufficient tension and shifting suspicion to keep me wanting to read on. There’s that emotional undercurrent that makes you sense that something just isn’t adding up.
While this first book doesn’t fully rival the heavyweights of the genre, it’s a compelling story that shows real promise. There’s clear potential here, and I’d be curious to see how the author’s voice and plotting evolve in the next book.
This was a gripping story of a woman who comes to realize her entire marriage was a sham and the husband she loved wasn't the person she thought he was. The story unravels through a medium pace as Blythe tries to move on after the tragic death of Quinton, her husband. But then Constance shows up claiming to be his true wife. I could not put the book down as Blythe slowly discovers that everything she thought she knew about Quinton was a lie. Then a mysterious man shows up and her life is now in danger. The story was gripping, and I was invested until the final page. There was one part I wasn't crazy about and didn't think it fit well into the storyline, but overall this was a solid start to the Final Chapter Book Club trilogy. I look forward to reading the next two books!
What to Expect: --dual pov (Blythe and Quinton) --gaslighting and manipulation --secrets and lies --betrayal --reinventing oneself
Special thanks to the author for a selecting me to be on her content creation team!
Wow. Almost Gone by Mira Shaw is a psychological thriller done right. The action, the drama, the tense moments, everything was done perfectly. The writing style is so smooth and fluid it’s easy to read, even when the story is so intense. And at the heart of the action, the twists and turns cause you to sit up straight and flip through the pages as quickly as possible, anxious to see what is going to happen.
After a tragic accident, Blythe finds out that her husband was not the man she thought she had married. Living multiple lives with multiple women, it seems her husband was playing everyone for a fool. And when another one of his women makes contact, everything starts to go crazy, and that’s when all the fun starts.
I don’t want to give too much away, but this book was great. If you’re a thriller reader, this definitely needs to go on your list. I can’t wait to read more of this series!
ALMOST GONE by @authormirashaw 📖 book review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
huge thanks to the author for sending me a gifted copy!
this is book one in the final chapter book club series, and I’m eager to get to the next two books! *immediately adds to cart*
half mystery/half romance.. I couldn’t stop turning the pages. the pacing and flow were SPOT. ON. and I’m officially in love with her writing style! so excited to see what wild stories she has in store for books one and two because if they’re anything like this one, I’m hooked ✨
🖤the deets: the morning after a huge fight with her husband Quinton, Blythe takes a video of him jumping into a lake… only he never resurfaces. weeks later, forced to move and downsize, she takes a new job at the kid’s school and is trying to patch up her life, when someone visits her…. also claiming to be his wife. Blythe starts digging around his belongings and opens up a whole cave of secrets she was completely oblivious to… and now she feels like she’s being watched.
make sure you have some quiet time set aside because once you pick up this book, you won’t want to put it down.
I loved this book! It is brilliantly written and I really connected with the main character. I love how she was a strong woman and didn’t just give up or make stupid decisions. She discovered her husband’s secrets and was brave for her children. This book had everything. Secrets, a lying cheating husband, a little spice, and much more. A must read.
What did I just read?! This one was so hard to put down as I was hit with so many twists and turns! And I thought I had it all figured, but boy was I wrong! What an ending!!
Blythe discovers evidence of an affair with a woman who goes by “P” in her husband’s belongings after he returns home from a work trip. They have the biggest fight of their marriage but the very next day they have to put on their game faces to celebrate a family birthday on Blythe’s sisters boat. When a harmless dare results in tragedy on the water, Blythe becomes a widow and does her best to start fresh with her two kids. Now living hours away, she gets a knock on the door from a woman named Constance claiming to be her late husbands wife…leaving her to question everything she thought she once knew.
It’s rare that a book grabs my attention in the first chapter but this one did. I loved the first half of the book but the last 20 percent was a bit redundant. There was also a short lived “romance” that felt awkwardly shoehorned in and was pointless to the rest of the story in my opinion.
Overall, it held my attention and I kept wanting to read (which is hard to do).
Blythe finds out her husband is cheating…and then he dies the next morning. I thought I knew where this was going. Whew! I was SO wrong. What unravels is so much bigger than a typical “dead husband” thriller. We’re talking multiple identities. Multiple women. Entire parallel lives. I ate it up but also needed a break to process 😂
What I appreciated most is that Blythe is not clueless. She’s not running around missing obvious red flags. She’s a mom in full protector mode, actually piecing things together and taking control of the situation. I love a competent female lead in a thriller 🤌🏽 Too many times we’re stuck with a damsel in distress making horrible decisions.
There is spice. I personally skimmed those parts because it’s not my thing, but if you enjoy it, you’ll probably be into it!!85 seemed hot 😂 It didn’t add to or take away from the plot for me, it just wasn’t what I was there for.
Overall, this is fast-paced, dark, and very character-driven. The twist caught me off guard, which does not always happen these days.
With book three out today, this feels like the perfect time to start the series if you’ve been on the fence!

Mira Shaw was born to be a writer. The writing in this book flowed beautifully, and I could feel the characters begging to appear on the page. This is Book 1 in The Final Chapter Book Club trilogy; the second is Almost Found, and the third book, Almost a Stranger, comes out tomorrow, February 27, 2026. While this is her debut psychological thriller romance written under this pseudonym, her crime thrillers as Mary Stone are best sellers.
This is a story of gaslighting on steroids and a husband's legacy after he is missing, presumed drowned. Dealing with life on her own, with two small children, means that Blythe cannot collect his life insurance and must move out of the family home, downsizing to a rental cottage on Whisper Island. There, she is visited by a stranger, and her whole life implodes. Blythe finds out she's stronger than she knows, sexier than she feels (whoa, fanning myself at those spicy scenes), and a mother who will do anything to protect her kids.
Thanks to Mira Shaw for adding me to her content creator team. I knew this was going to be a 5 star review a couple pages in, so excuse me while I "add to cart" her second and third in the series!
“It’s not easy, keeping three women happy. But I’ve always been above average.”
Thanks so much to Mira Shaw @AuthorMiraShaw for allowing me to join her creator team and for my gifted copy of this book.
First impression - this cover is slick! I love it so much, the tone, the font…it’s so catching.
It read the prologue and immediately decided this is absolutely the kinda book I’m into PLUS it takes place in one of my very favorite cities, Savannah (and on Ossabaw Island & Whisper Island).
The MC, Blythe talking about planning the obituary for her (lying cheating scumbag of a) husband, Quinton, had me cracking up. Manifestation at its finest I suppose. 🤭
Anyway, we quickly learn that Quin-ton (IYKYK 😉🤭😂) is a really bad dude with no redeeming qualities.
The female badassery was pretty great on this one.
It was a fun read. I enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
I read this as part of the ARC team. Wow, this was a very good book. Blythe and Quinton have been married for 10 years and have two children. It's a mostly normal marriage and they have a good life. Then, the unbelievable happens. Blythe finds a note in her husband's wallet that changes both their lives forever. What a wild ride you are about to take. Blythe is angry and she won't be appeased with his ridiculous explanation. The next day is a family day to celebrate Blythe's father's birthday. Quinton is still trying to apologize when he decides to take a high dive from the boat they are on. The kids are egging him on and he is just having fun. But the fun stops when Quinton doesn't surface again after the dive! Everyone scrambles but he is nowhere to be found. Blythe and her children are devastated. But the worst is yet to come. What an incredible story. Hang on to your seat as this bobs and weaves a tale you can't believe. Great read!
Blythe is a happily married (10 years) woman with two loved children. Then her husband returns from a work trip and she finds a love note in his wallet. She confronts him and he denies it and claims she is the only woman he loves. The next day while out boating he dives into the water and never resurfaces. The family is heartbroken and Blythe moves herself and her children to another town. That's when things really get strange. She is visited by an older woman who claims that Quinton was her husband and had been lying to Blythe all of this time. Blythe starts investigating and finds out more than she could have ever imagined about her "husband." More strange things happen that keeps the reader wondering what is going to happen next. So many twists and turns and then the ending is WOW! You have to read this first book in the Final Chapter Book Club. It will keep you guessing and now waiting for the next book to come out!!
ALMOST GONE is a tense and emotional introduction to The Final Chapter Book Club series. This psychological thriller by Mira Shaw is so different from Mary Stone's books, but so good from start to finish. I couldn’t put it down. Writing as Mira Shaw, she has created characters with flaws and a plot that is a slow but chilling build to the intense climax.
There are dark secrets that have haunted Whisper Island for thirty years. This story is just the most current secret that is about to be blown apart.
For ten years, Blythe and Quinton have had a normal loving marriage with two children. That is until a dropped note starts to unravel everything they thought to be normal. Their lives and those around them may be changed forever.
I received an ARC of this book from the author, and the above is my voluntary and honest review.
I loved this Psychological Thriller by Mira Shaw and anyone who loves this kind of book should read it too. I really was reading along thinking this is good, I wonder what will happen next when it started me running until I finished. Honestly, there was so much I never saw coming. This has been the best book I've read in a while. Blythe was married to the love of her life Quinton Greer. He traveled a lot for his job and could be gone a couple of weeks at a time. The last trip brought him home with love for Blythe and the children, until his wallet fell and a note fell out. Then the world began to tumble for Blythe and her children, leaving Quinton in his own world. Until he found her again. You have to read this book!
What would you do if a note fell from your husband's wallet?
Great! Thanks a lot Ma.. Mira Shaw! Another of your serials to keep me up at night reading, because I can't put the book (okay! tablet with a Kindle app), down. Just in case you care, I do work full time. I need to eat, do chores, etc. not just read a new serial by Ma.. Mira Shaw! Oh, well! I guess I'll deal with it. Great debut for your new series, Ma.. Mira. Quinton got what he needed to get. Blythe? Gonna keep my eyes on her. You've come a long way since I downloaded the first Winter Black book, not to mention all the other series. Whoops! I guess I did mention it. I'm looking forward to "Almost a Stranger The Final Chapter Book Club 2." I hope you can push up the release date. My fingernails are getting short. Anyway... Next!
From the very first line, this book had me hooked. There wasn’t a moment that I wanted to put this book down. An amazing read from beginning to end.
Blythe lives the perfect life. Until she doesn’t. Forced to pick up the pieces of a marriage she thought she had before she was widowed, she moved herself and her kids to an island a couple hours away from where her husband’s tragic drowning.
But that’s only the beginning, because when her husband’s wife knocks at her door one night, she’s forced to reckon with the idea that her husband might not have been who she thought he was. And is she who she thought she was?
Just when you think you know what’s about to happen, another spider web appears.
There were several continuity errors, such as the protagonist, Blythe, wearing pj pants, then suddenly wearing jeans. The entire chapter introducing many book club characters which actually have no point or role in the book (as many of them are never mentioned again) doesn’t need to exist.
Describing Constance, who is 61, like she is elderly is unrealistic. It makes the author look inauthentic.
A lot of the dialogue is corny, unnecessary, and not at all the way anyone speaks.
The plot was interesting enough, but very convoluted.
It gives amateur author or first-time author all the way through.
Wow! I laid down late at night to start this book and big mistake! I couldn't put it down! Right from the first chapter I was hooked! I ended up staying up most of the night reading it until I was finished reading it! The plot pacing was excellent and kept me very engaged and loved the twists! Blythe was very relatable and I felt like I was in the book with her in every part of her journey in this book! I guessed the ending twist but the other twists I did not and were jaw dropping! I can't wait to read the other books in the series! Thank you Mira Shaw for my copy of the book in exchange for my honest review!
The book had me hooked from the first page! Filled with twists and turns leaving you wanting more. I felt all the emotions for the main character Blythe as she navigated through these events. From aggravation, sadness, as well as frustration and fury. I enjoyed this story from start to finish! It was a five-star review from me. The story was well planned out, and I also enjoyed the writing style. Mira Shaw nailed it with this one! Your book did not disappoint, and I look forward to the next book in this series as well as more of your books in the future
This book was about Quinton and Blythe, a married couple of 10 years. One evening she finds a note that has fallen out of his pants from another woman. This destroys all trust and leaves Blythe struggling with the thought of her husband cheating. Quinton swears to his wife that she is the only love of his life. Things start to unravel and are brought to the surface when Quinton dies in a freaky accident in front of his wife and children. The secrets and lies her husband kept start to unfold as she tries to move on with her life as a widowed mother. To find out you will have to read for yourself! No spoiler alerts! You won’t be disappointed.
This is my first book from Mira Shaw and will definitely not be the last. I’m hooked on her psychological thrillers. Almost Gone gives you everything to play with your mind. Quinton thought he had the perfect life or should I say lives, before everything started to catch up with him. When Quinton jumps into the water and never surfaces, he is gone but his past is coming forward. Blythe is wife gets a visit from Quinton’s other wife Constance. And the lies start untangling. There is so much to this story I don’t want to spoil it. Definitely a page turner.
Awesome 1st book in a series to come! This novel follows Blythe Greer as she and her "perfect family" enjoy a day boating where her husband back flips into the water, never to be seen again. Blythe's life begins to unravel after her husband, Quinton's, death. She picks up her two kids, Jollie and Jack, moves to an island and tries to restart their lives after much grief. But... the fun is just starting, and things are unfolding fast! Who did she marry and what has he done? A wonderful, well-paced and exciting story that you just have to read!
I'm conflicted in reviewing this book because though I knew at the start this is a series, I have no desire to read the sequel. This does not stem from poor writing. On the contrary. This author writes well. Far better than most in the psychological thriller genre. The story too, started off really well, with a man diving off a private boat in full view of his family only not to resurface. The initial backstory was also intruiging. But then, as in most thrillers it became too much. Too far-fetched and the ending for me was bizarre. 4 stars
WOW! This book is a wild ride. This insane psychological thriller romance is absolutely gripping! I could not put it down. Almost Gone by Mira Shaw is book 1 of The Final Chapter Book Club series. Book 1 and 2 are available now, with the 3rd book coming Feb 27.
This book is about grief, misdirection, passion, deceit, lies, strong female characters, and criminal behavior. Mira Shaw can write one twisty plot though, so pay attention and enjoy this fast paced read.
Be sure to check your trigger warnings if you have any of concern.
This starts off with sarcasm, which immediately won me over. The writing style is sharp and engaging, and once it gets going, it’s hard to put down. I needed answers and kept turning pages because I had to know what was actually happening.
The dual POV works well, getting inside both sides of the story adds layers and helps everything click into place. Even when the characters frustrated me (and they absolutely did), I was fully invested.
Tense, dramatic, and compulsively readable with a solid ending to tie it up. A strong read for me.
Well, this one kept me at the edge of my seat for most of the book. At a family birthday party, a father of two dives off a boat, to never surface. To the families horror, he is just considered missing. How as a wife do you move on from that horrifying day that you replay over and over? Well that is chapter one, time to buckle up buttercup. Thank you, Mira Shaw for letting me be a part of your content team! Thank goodness this is a series, I need to see where this storyline goes.
Don't know why Mary.Stone is no longer, but this writer has got.it figured out. The way the words flow.and the excitement builds, this book is a keeper. Talk about an unusual situation. This main character is full of strength, insight and humor. And her friends, family and co-workers...i forsee more great stories to follow. I couldn't put this book down so finished it in one sitting.
