Doctor of My Heart

He’s back.

Dr Daniel Foster - blew into town with the same storm that shut everything down... and just like that, we’re stranded.
Together. In my café.

No power.
No escape.
Just me—and —my first love, my biggest heartbreak, and the last person I expected to see.

The Texas storm outside? Wild.
But what’s happening inside these walls? Even more dangerous.
In the quiet moments between thunderclaps, something else begins to stir.

Old memories resurface.
Sparks begin to flicker.
And maybe—just maybe—there’s something between us that never really ended.

This might be our second chance...
Or just a reminder of everything we lost the first time.

But when the storm clears, will Daniel walk away again—
or finally find his way home?

This was a lovely story. The characters were brought to life and I adore reading about them.

Sophie owns the cafe that her family had owned before her. But she is barely keeping it open as one thing after another needs fixing. Then one night during a storm, Dr. Daniel Foster, her old flame, walks into the cafe. The roof starts to leak and they work side by side to clean up the water and the mess. Working side by side to control the leaks, Daniel thinks he buried his feelings for her but he realizes he did not! Daniel even offers to give her support. Then he gets calls from the hospital where he works and he is torn between the hospital and staying with Sophie. He tells her, "I want to find out what happens if I stay...with you." Maybe they can make this work?

A Fated Second Chance -
This is captivating story about two strong-willed characters who are forced into spending time in close proximity, whilst trying to deal with the heartbreak from their past. Spending time together was initially awkward, but once they cleared the air and dealt with the pain from their past, everything went smoothly, which gave them a confidence to explore the possibility of future together. It was a wonderful opportunity discovering this new author whose novel was entertaining. I will be happy to recommend this and hope to read more of this author’s books in the future.

There are several places in this book that needed better editing: quotation marks in the wrong place, some confusion around who was talking/listening, etc.

How long has he been gone? 5 years? A decade? And for everything to be salvaged in their relationship basically in the duration of a storm = unlikely. Not just unlikely. Impossible. I felt like there was no friction in this story. Just a lot of looks and barely touches.

Yes, this is a sweet, heartwarming, and cozy romance if two people resuming what they thought was a lost love. So why two stars? Because this was definitely missing something. I think their reunion would be more impactful if this book had their past as well as the present. For example, part 1 and part 2, or have flashbacks mixed in with the present day story. That background feels necessary with how quickly the two fell back in love after one night.

I loved how this is a second-chance romance. It was beautifully done, and the romance wasn't rushed. The romance was built on what the characters had in the past. I can't wait to read more by Lorianna James. This book was so good! Short and sweet!
