These four charming tales – Tony Needs A Friend, Charcoal’s Story, Harry’s Story, and The Prince of Tails -- are told from the point of view of lovable cats and their city and country animal friends. Each story focuses on real life experiences and explores universal themes that are resolved with understanding, wisdom, and love by the cats and a colorful group of friends that includes dogs, horses, crows, foxes, chipmunks, and woodchucks. Sweet Tales is a perfect chapter book or read-out-loud book for animal lovers of all ages - anyone who enjoys a good tale.

Harry’s Story: Jade and Britt devise a plan to help Harry, a horse, the beloved friend of the animal community, who is facing the possibility of leaving his home forever, find a second chapter as a carriage horse in New York’s Central Park.
The Prince of Tails: Tail, a red fox, who is concerned with the environment and issues that affect the animals in the area, seeks out Jade and Britt to help stop a land developer before lives and homes are destroyed.
I won this book as a giveaway. I absolutely love this book. It is light and loving. My kids sat still (rare occasion) and listened to a chapter or two a night. Then asked questions about what they heard. Any book that can capture their attention without making them feel bad is a winner
I haven't read many children's books as an adult, so it took a little time for me to get into the right frame of mind for this one. The stories are cute and would definitely be appealing to kids.
**I got this book for free from a Goodreads giveaway.**
After reading the second collection of tales, which I enjoyed, I decided to read this first book, which I had in my ereader collection. Honestly, I was not as impressed, which may go to show the author shows growth in this series.
These first tales are darker, more dangerous and NOT suitable for younger children. Tony needs a friend does demonstrate the healing power of animal friendships. Charcoal's Story reminds us that not all animals are sweet and cuddly. Harry's story is very depressing before it has a happy ending. The Prince of Tails is about environmental and social issues, but just did nothing for me. Maybe I was too depressed by the previous stories to really care.
