I had to “DNF” this book at 100 pages (30%). choosing to DNF a book is a very hard decision for me to make and i usually try to push through, however i wanted to stop reading on page 30 and i decided to give it the benefit of the doubt and persevere.
I do not want to be too critical of this book since it is a memoir, so it is the authors story and her truth. This book advertises being about an independent woman who picks up her whole life and does a road trip across the country, which is my dream!! Throughout the book however, it feels like all Vatuone talks about is men. ‘what will my ex think?’ ‘is this bartender in love with me?’ ‘would my landlord who is 20 years older than me marry me after our first interaction?” It seems like all Vatuone thinks or cares about is men. I’m sure some may find this relatable, but personally i found it very annoying. As a woman who tries to always prioritize and see the value in myself, the mindset that is portrayed throughout this story is EXHAUSTING. I had to dnf this because forcing myself to read it was like forcing myself to get pissed off.
I do not want to hurt a small authors business, but in publishing a book i feel that opens an opportunity for criticism. Perhaps others will find the male-centered mindset relatable and appealing, but i would advise them to go into this book with the expectation of reading about that.

I'm in my second read (or...listen), and it feels like a visit with a long lost friend. Anna has such a beautiful way of describing her journey and though my life experiences do not resemble hers, I feel I can relate to her in so many ways (as a fellow "Lonely Girl"). The emotions she portrays are so tangible that I can feel it deep within me.
I've recommended this book to others too and they've also fallen in love with it.
