I like this author so I really tried. I am halfway through after skimming most pages past the 33% mark. It is soooooo repetitive. Over and over again, we learn why David is not a good husband. To the point of ad nauseam. I actually went back to the book blurb to see if anything else was going to happen. I learn there that Jake will be stalking. But, still, at 50%, not much has happened. Not sure if I’ll skim thru to the end or call it a day.
I didn’t find this book to be either psychological or thrilling. From a male perspective I thought it was wordy and boring as the author spent page after page agonizing over the lead character’s every thought. And, the plot was quite predictable. Not sure what the shocking twist was supposed to be.
• ARC REVIEW • Thank you to NetGalley and Creature publishing for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own. • This was really easy to get into and I was hooked straight away. I absolutely love psychological thrillers and this had an interesting premise.
I’d like to start by saying I don’t condone cheating at all, but I do understand why she did it. Her suffocating relationship with her cheating husband and the fact she can’t leave, I get why she started an affair.
I like Blanche, she seems so nice, maybe even too nice, and is stuck in a loveless marriage, she can’t even leave or do anything because she’s been conditioned that it’s her fault the marriage is falling apart. I hate David, he’s very conniving and doesn’t care about Blanche at all, she’s a prop to him and nothing more. While I do like Blanche, I don’t like the fact she calls David’s mistresses whores, I get they shouldn’t be sleeping with a married man but I dunno, it just feels… off?
I will say the Jake is very good at being charming, of course Blanche would choose him to have the affair with, he satisfied her in more ways than one. He was charming, kind and respectful… until he wasn’t. Until he became weird, creepy and basically crazy.
The pacing did feel slightly off, it took a while for any of the stalking etc to actually happen. As it got towards the end, it felt like the pacing completely slowed down and I unfortunately started to lose interest but I wanted to finish it. I did like some of the ending, but not all of it.
Overall, this was an okay book. I wouldn’t personally categorise it as a thriller, but it was still good. I almost gave it 4 stars, but it ended up being 3 because it used a trope I absolutely despise and find far too overused.
This is a fast paced psychological thriller that kept me glued to the pages! Blanche went from one nightmare to another when she chose to cheat on her husband. I enjoyed this gripping story. It’s full of drama, suspense, twists, obsession, cheating and secrets. An amazing, must read thriller!
This was like stream of consciousness written by an anxious overthinker. The author really loves the word w---e. It was on every dang page. No one in this book was likeable. They all sucked. The story was not the best either...
Gripping, Thrilling.....no way. Unputdownable, yes because I couldn't wait to get to the end!! Hoping that it would get better but it didn't. And so repetitive. It could have been written in a lot less pages.
