They wanted a new world. One where genetics could be curated, bought, and sold. Where black men were nothing more than breeding stock, discarded when their purpose was fulfilled. But they didn’t count on her.
For a year, Stori Deringer has played her part - loyal employee by day, resistance operative by night. With everything at stake, she and her team are poised to dismantle the Leopold breeding facilities from the inside. But when the public vote fails to shut them down, the fight turns deadly. Who would have thought that something so evil would linger in those halls this long?
Note - A sneak preview of Seed is included in my horror collection, Sick xoxo. This is the complete novella and continuation of that story.
Kenya is the proud author of the collections Sick xoxo, Daymares, and The Mixtape. Her novels include Prey for Me, the hard-hitting story of a monstrous child-abusing preacher, the romantic thriller series A Good Wife, and Devil Inside, a disturbing tale about a cancer patient who morphs into something unrecognizable during treatment.
Dipping her toes into dark fantasy, Kenya debuted The Forever Souls, a bloody romantic series set in the distant future. A talented multi-genre writer, Kenya also appears in the Freestyle Cypher, a collection of urban drama/thrillers, with more volumes on the way.
Watch for her dark fantasy brand to emerge in 2024!

Kenya is the queen of psychological horror! Seed was a dark and unsettling read that stays with you long after the last page. From the very beginning, the story pulls you into a chilling atmosphere where horror and psychological suspense intertwine. Not to mention, how thought provoking it was because it definitely gave me some “what if” moments! I will forever love her bold storytelling and trust when I say Kenya isn’t afraid to take readers into the darkest corners of the human experience.
This story held my attention from beginning to end. The nutty experimenters, their weird science, and cognitive impaired patients triggered me, but I had to keep reading to see how things would unfold. I’m sure this story will stay with me for some time. The ending was perfect and not at all expected. It’s a must-read.
In a world where white-women are demanding “designer” mixed babies, the government has no choice but to answer the call.
Leopald is a gift to some and a curse to many. They’ve positioned themselves as the leading breeding facility. Offering white women the once-in-a-lifetime chance to make the babies of their dreams by paying a small fortune to mate with willing and ready Black men.
On the surface, although sick and twisted, all seems well. The men are volunteers- signing their lives away for the financial stability and longevity of their families, or so it seems.
Stori Deringer knows something isn’t right, and she’s determined to get to the bottom of it by going undercover and working at Leopald. What she finds is terrifying, but she’s barely scratched the surface because the secrets and cover-ups go way further and deeper than she ever expected.
I couldn’t put this book down- it’s a page-turner for sure. The plot is solid, dystopian, terrifying, and made even more so by the fact that this could likely happen in real life. The story was well-developed, fast-paced, and thought-provoking.
Seed had an incredible premise about genetic engineering, rebellion, and a dystopian system that turns Black men into breeding stock. The beginning hooked me FAST….But somewhere along the way, the story drifted off the very plot it promised. It didn’t stay focused, and the ending felt flat for me. Great concept, shaky execution. And the ending….
What in the absolute …… this was the perfect dosage of craaaazzyy and scary if you allowed yourself to think … what if… I hands down recommend this and it was the perfect in between read I needed in my reading schedule . Loved it!!!
Stormi ran a business that required her to make some cutthroat decisions, but I loved the authors ability to keep her feeling human after decommissions instead of growing numb or cold. SN: when the manager was described I promised I pictured Ms Trunchbull from Matilda!
Seed by Kenya Moss-Dyme is a phenomenal speculative horror novella with an intensely impactful premise. As the author states in her Note to Readers, this premise is shockingly based on reality (so be sure to read that first), and for me, that was one of the most horrifying aspects (you will understand why when you read about said realism … ew and no and what in the world is wrong with these people).
Flowing with intensity, atrocity, and evocative characters, the story is fast-paced, compelling, and incredibly engrossing. But there’s also a bit more to it than the synopsis suggests. There’s a dark and nasty little prologue that speaks to another ugly side of genetic research, and it ominously foreshadows things to come later. The suspense is fantastic, the horrors are gut-clenching, and both the tale itself and the subtext will suck the air from your lungs.
This is a powerful read. I love Seed both because of and in spite of how it chilled me to the bone and creeped me out intellectually. Those who read the author’s collection Sick xoxo will have seen a sneak preview of this story and this is the completed continuation of that, but either way, this is a horror story not to missed!
When I reached the end of Kenya Moss-Dyme’s 𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐝, my jaw was literally on the floor. I sat there thinking, what did I just read?! It was absolutely wild, in the best way possible! After reading this, I had to tell my husband about it and his first words were, “This would make the perfect sci-fi movie.” And I couldn’t agree more!
𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐝 is a fast paced read that explores what happens when doctors and society try to play god. How far are we willing to go to get what we want, and will we be happy with the results? This is a story packed with twists, turns, and nonstop suspense. So much happens so quickly that it feels like you are on a never-ending roller-coaster ride…and I guarantee, you will not want to get off.
Like my other reads by this author, I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
And side note, I loved how the store came full circle from what we saw in the prologue, all the way to the last chapter. Once you read it, you will know exactly what I mean.
If you’re looking for an action-packed thriller that is fast-paced and keeps you on the edge of y our seat, check out 𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐝.
When Stori Derringer infiltrates the Leopold breeding labs, she’s doing her part to help the resistance break the genetic experimentation taking place behind its doors. But the very people she means to protect from its grip become as enveloped in the chaos as she does.
Where do I begin with this near future, sort of dystopian, wild ride called SEED? The best way to sum up SEED is – “Handmaid’s Tale” breeding but with black men meets “Tuskegee medical experiments” vibes. There are weighty topics tackled in this novella, all of which are handled very upfront (there’s no mistaking the messaging) but with given care in the execution.
Kenya Moss-Dyme uses the framework of bodily autonomy (or lack thereof) and race and gender to smash through what you would expect in a horror story. Stori as a strong protagonist surrounded by unruly antagonists and she takes extraordinary measures do what is right, but will it be enough?
SEED is so wild, but you get what you came for with this one and you can read it in an afternoon.
I think this satirical dystopian story works so well, because it’s rooted in truth. At this point in our society, there is no longer a veil over our disillusionment. Whatever we’ve held onto, is gone. Stori and a group of rebels use their skills to create a resistance.
The government has garner the support of the wealthy. Unsurprisingly, those with money and status have the upper hand. It’s terrifying that the desires of others can infringe on the rights of another. Sounds familiar, right?
I enjoyed the multiple point of views. One perspective enhanced and supported the next. Kenya uses the momentum of misfortune and destined despair to align the story.
Also, the evolution of each character’s disposition, and/or resolve was enjoyable to witness.
In only 100 pages, a lot of literary ground is covered. Tales like this one, implore me to imagine the weight and complexity of the unknown.
This book gave me The First Purge…but in reverse — terrifying, bold, and completely un-put-downable. I was genuinely afraid to flip the next page. Suspenseful, shocking, and surreal, Seed reads like a binge-worthy TV series: every chapter felt cinematic and left me wanting more.
Kenya clearly mined real-world fears and then turned them up to eleven. Ten years ago I might’ve called parts unrealistic — now it feels uncomfortably possible. The premise is provocative, the pacing is relentless, and the twists hit hard. If you like political-suspense that rattles you long after you close the book, this one’s for you.
Favorite thing: the way each chapter plays like a scene in a show — vivid, fast, and impossible to ignore.
This book read like a movie. I was invested from page one to the very end. I have never read anything like it, and the scary part about it is that this could happen in real life.
Imagine a world where the government passes a law to give white women their hearts' desire to have a designer baby AKA a mixed baby. Black men are coerced or kidnapped to work at the clinic that specializes in this. While the clinic specializes in designer babies, but at a cost, there is something else going on at the clinic as well. With all the twists and turns, I could not put this book down. I was throughly entertained but also scared. I could definitely see this being a movie, and it needs to be. I highly recommend reading this book.
What in the world did I just read? Just when I think Kenya Moss-Dyme couldn't be any more unhinged, she goes and takes it to the next level. And to find out the foundation of this story was based on a chat room she came across. Makes it even more mind-blowing. Without giving the story away, just know doctors, women, and this society in general are very warped and demented. It made me feel like I was watching the Twilight Zone. The end did leave me thinking, "Yap Nope Im Out." Seed is full of triggers for some. And just remember to keep an open mind while reading. If you can do that, then this book is for you.
Listennn I love a good dystopian book, I’m just use to them being zombie related but this!!! It took me a few days to settle my mind because even thought it was satire and over exaggerated it still was shocking because it’s really present day issues.. Oh man I can’t wait to see where Kenya takes this story next. There are just so many ways she can take it from Myron’s story, to the triplets, or Stori journey with the crazy doc. I definitely recommend and I look forward to reading more of this Authors work.
This book felt a little “too real” in this political climate that we’re currently in. Everything from the President to the “reproduction farm” felt like very similar to things it seems this administration is trying to work towards.
I read this bc I saw my last name was one of the character’s last names but I just wanna say…I HATED MOIRA BECKWITH!!! And wished I could’ve bishh slapped her throughout the book! 🤣
I loved the “monster superhuman” scenes and could picture this as a Shudder production movie on Hulu. Someone should make this happen!
OH. MY. MFN. GOODNESS…… This was a wild ass ride!! Chile I couldn’t swipe fast enough on this kindle to get to the next page/chApters
A “genetic” lab gone allllll the way wrong. Sad thing is…. In real life there are women who truly are obsessed with the way Mixed babies look and quite literally only deal with black men just because they think the baby is going to come out looking a certain way. And I can guarantee you at some point someone has probably actually thought about funding a laboratory like this.
Listen. When I read the sneak peek, I knew this story was going to be something more than just…I don’t want to give out any spoilers. Well maybe one: I knew it would be more than just creating designer babies the biblical way. But the back story was dark. VERY dark. Which is what I love about reading anything from Kenya Moss-Dyme.
In the current geo- political time that we are in, I often think- that couldn't or wouldn't happen. Seed proves that not only could and would happen but we are well on our way to seeing it in this lifetime. This is the conspiracy theory that may not at all be a theory. Tailor made babies, sex, underground organizations and supernatural forces all in one tale. What a journey!
Ok Kenya, I'm beginning to wonder what lab did your brain come from? This was a Kenya original! There’s always twists, turn around, and come to light moments. Kenya is amazingly unhinged in the horror story telling. This read was exciting, scary, nerve racking, & fast paced. I loved it!
If you didn’t already know that Kenya Moss-Dyme is the queen of horror, then it’s time to get familiar! Seed was such a gripping read an incredible mix of horror and sci-fi that kept me hooked from beginning to end. I especially loved the way the story was layered with articles and different pieces of information that all tied together so perfectly by the end. The suspense, the creep factor, and the creativity all blended into one unforgettable ride. Kenya once again proves why she dominates the horror genre!
“Seed” by Kenya Moss-Dyme is a must-read! This gripping, thought-provoking story left me unpacking its layers long after I finished. If you're a fan of mind-bending series like “Black Mirror”, you’ll absolutely love this!”
I enjoyed this book from start to finish. I was quite surprised by some of the events that unfolded. This book certainly lived up to its title, and I appreciated that. I highly recommend this thrilling and dark read. The plot twist was crazyyyyyyy.
Absolutely amazing story that had me hooked from the first page! I’m very glad I picked this book up. I plan on purchasing her other stories! Check out my review on my TikTok page!
This was good! My first dystopian fiction book & this was the perfect book to start this genre. Short chapters, crazy story line…it don’t get no better 😁
Kenya came out swinging with this one! In this fast paced read, reminiscent of a Jordan Peele film, I didn’t know what to expect next. The experimentation, the blatant disregard and disrespect for the human race, the fight for equality… all hidden behind one simple fact. 🖤Black people are the superior race. 🖤 This read had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Drake and Mase… baby I wasn’t ready.
