Death and Shadows by Lisa Phillips had me hooked from the start. It was so much fun having a story that solely focused on Ramon. Ramon and Zelya's story was fast-paced, suspenseful, and intriguing with twists and turns as they investigate the disappearance of young women, as they find who is trying to kill Zelya, and as Zelya searches for the Count of Shadows.
Apples Don't Fall by Terry Toler is of Ellie, Jamie Austen's daughter, who is in Cayman Islands on her first undercover assignment. While locating a mole within the CIA, Ellie finds herself being targeted by a group of men. Who is the mole and who is targeting her and why? Is it one of the 3 men she went on a date with, or is it someone else? Who can she trust? This story was action-packed and intriguing, and I enjoyed the playful banter between Ellie's parents.
Eye of the Mind by Sara Davison had an interesting plot with the female main character Jules having aphantasia. While on a blind date with Dante, a cop, that didn't go well, Jules witnesses a murder, and the killer is after her. As the attacks and danger escalate, Dante protects Jules while working to find the killer. Can they not only find the killer but have a redo over? Davison's stories are fast-paced and engaging with twists and turns.
The Parisian Assignment by Lisa Harris is in first point of view. The story was engaging and interesting from the first chapter as readers are introduced to Samantha, a CIA agent who endured a loss after keeping an asset safe. Shortly afterward, she and Graham, a new security officer, work together to rescue another asset of Samantha's who has been kidnapped and is being held for ransom. The Parisian Assignment has an engaging plot line, the storyline drew me in, and it had plenty of twists and turns and surprises.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was another enjoyable anthology from Two Dogs Publishing that included 3 authors I've read before and 1 that was new to me. Here's a breakdown of the stories for review:

First came Death and Shadows by Lisa Phillips. I gave this one 4 stars. I enjoyed the story overall, but it took me a little bit to catch up to things as it felt like I was dropped in the middle of the story with no background. Fans of the author's other books may follow this better. I've read another anthology that Phillips was a part of, but that's been the sole experience I've had with this author prior to this. Once I caught up to the story though, I really enjoyed this one.

Next was Apples Don't Fall by Terry Toler. Toler is a new-to-me author. I gave this one 3 stars. The story itself was enjoyable as was the mystery, but the characters did not strike a chord with me and I did not like how the villain ended up being introduced, so to speak. I would maybe try this author again, but this story fell a bit flat in spite of enjoying the premise.

Next up was Eye of the Mind by Sara Davison. I gave this one 5 stars. I enjoyed the characters, the story line, the force proximity and enemies to lovers trope, and the villain was particularly evil. The suspense element was on point and I thoroughly enjoyed the psychological element, which was intense without being "keep me awake all night" intense.

The last story was The Parisian Assignment by Lisa Harris. I gave this one 4 stars as well. I have long enjoyed Harris's work, but the CIA angle of this one fell a bit short for me. I enjoyed the story line and the characters, for the most part. This one is book 1 in her upcoming series, so it does leave a bit open at the end, though the main story is tied up.

While most of these had a light faith thread, Davison's story had a pretty solid faith element included. Overall, this was an enjoyable anthology and one I would recommend to fans of suspense novels. Special thanks to the authors and publisher for an advance e-copy of this anthology. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

Suspense at its finest

Each of these four books are incredible stories in their own right. Thoroughly immersed in each different plot with great characters, on both sides, good and evil. Definitely worth the read!

Christian?

I stopped reading after book two - it was not a reflection of Christ. I have enjoyed may suspense, crime stories by Christian authors and was not prepared for a story in which murder by the heroine is no big deal.

An interesting set of stories, of which I loved some and wasn't so keen on others. Individual reviews:

Death and Shadows (Lisa Phillips) - After a chequered career, Ramon is on the right side and determined to stay there. But part of that includes keeping a friend-of-a-friend safe, and Zeyla is in deeper than either of them realise...
A good read as far as it went, but it felt all the way through like something was developing between Ramon and Zeyla, and that never really panned out. So while I enjoyed the suspense side of things, I was left feeling a bit let down by the ending in terms of relationships. Otherwise, it kept me on my toes and I enjoyed it.

Apples Don't Fall (Terry Toler) - Ellie is out on her first mission, tracking down a mole. What she doesn't know is that her parentage is no longer a secret, and men with grudges against her parents are coming after her. Will she be able to discover the mole while staying alive?
This was the first book I've read by the author and I probably won't try more. Why? Largely because I was mildly horrified by the attitudes expressed by the characters (presumably Christian?) towards killing people, admittedly bad guys. While the story itself was fine, I can't see Jesus casually going and killing five men (plus some unstated number in the epilogue), however bad - and certainly not treating it so lightly.

Eye of the Mind (Sara Davison) - Jules' unwanted blind date goes from bad to worse when she witnesses a murder - and though she sees the murderer (and he her) she can't give any description due to her inability to visualise. Cherry on top? The police sketch artist is her blind date. Dante was determined to sabotage the date, but when he's forced to work with Jules to find a murderer and protect her, feelings of more than just protection surface. But can he keep her safe?
Maybe more romantic suspense than thriller? I'm not too sure of definitions. But I really enjoyed it. The bad guy is a particularly unpleasant specimen, and it was great to see him finally get what was coming to him. The result is a sometimes somewhat creepy but overall hopeful and satisfying story. It was particularly nice to see the pair get over the initial bad impressions (why would anyone push someone unwilling into a blind date?) and learn to work together. Overall, my favourite story in the collection.

The Parisian Assignment (Lisa Harris) - When Samantha is unexpectedly contacted by the fiance of one of her assets, she has little choice but to come to her aid. But there seems to be something 'off' - and meanwhile, the woman reports that Oumar has been kidnapped and will be killed if not ransomed within days. Can she and the team uncover the truth and find Oumar in time?
I enjoyed it as far as it went, but it felt fairly loose-end-ish. Thinking back, I can't actually see any relevance of the whole William thread to the rest of the story, so I guess it's 'to be continued' and joining the story to other books in a series, but it makes for a not very satisfying ending.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This book is a clean thriller collection with limited romance. The four novellas are not connected. I liked some of the books better than others.

"Death and Shadows" by Lisa Phillips
"Ramon ducked into the shadow of an alley and peered around the corner of the wall. Hiding was nothing new, even if he had every right to not have to hide ever again. Still, it was second nature to stick to the dark places of the world and move around unseen."
Anyone who has read the Brand of Justice (Kenna) series will love this book featuring previously introduced side characters. (I have not read those books, so I did not feel quite as connected to the characters who had evidently gone under a transformation.) Parts seemed a bit dark and gritty. But I will say that parts of the plot shocked me. I do appreciate the quest for justice and for righting wrongs. Not sure if I would read more in the series or not. 3.8 stars.
"Apples Don't Fall" by Terry Toler
"Many operatives had lost their lives falling for the trick. When they thought the danger had passed, a second threat emerged that they weren't prepared for."
Anyone who has read the Jamie Austen series might greatly enjoy reading this book featuring her daughter, Ellie. (Alex and Jamie are sideline characters.) She is attempting to solver her first case. All of the spy elements intrigued me. But in the end, there was too much vigilante justice. I have read several of the books featuring Jamie, but I stopped reading the series because the plots started to run together. This felt like more of the same. Well-written, but not my favorite. 3.5 stars.
"Eye of the Mind" by Sara Davison
"That's how I remember things. I take note of them in my mind. Memorize facts. Log them into inventory." (Read the book to find out what details Jules can recall!)
This author has incredibly creative plots. I had never heard of aphantasia - lack of being able to visualize in the mind. By having the affected character be the heroine who needs to describe a crime scene was brilliant. This added a layer of complication to the whole story. Plus, the characters were unique, and the plot was well thought out. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! 5 stars.
"The Parisian Assignment" by Lisa Harris.
"I did a little digging into his past when he first came on board. He was a US Marine force recon recruited by the CIA. Everything I could find on him verified that he was the perfect recruit. He's been on numerous high-risk assignments, from the Middle East to North Africa to Eastern Europe, primarily conducting covert security operations and asset extractions. Which makes me wonder why he's here in Paris."
This novella is an introduction to the author's next series - one that I know I have to read after reading this introduction. Samantha Jordan, female spy extraordinaire, was the perfect heroine in this book of international intrigue. Knowing her internal dialogue and thought processes gives the reader an insider perspective that adds depth and interest. An unpredictable plot that caused me to keep reading to find out what was next. A couple of cliffhangers were the perfect way to draw the reader into the next book. Glad I only have to wait a few months to read the next title. 5 stars.

I was provided with an advanced copy of this collection. I wanted to read and review it. All opinions are my own.

Death and Shadows - Lisa Phillips

This novella starts out the collection and has a great hook to draw the reader in right away in chapter one. The story is suspsenseful throughout, but I also found it confusing. The story is clearly a continuation of another series by the author. Unfortunately, I found that this installment did not read well as a stand alone novella for those of us not familiar with the rest of the series. The allusions to characters' pasts and back stories only confused me more rather than advancing the story.

Apples Don't Fall - Terry Toler

This novella was a really interesting read as it followed a new CIA agent, Ellie, trying to discover a mole while in the Cayman Islands. Her parents are elite CIA agents and trained Ellie to be one as well. We follow Ellie's thoughts as she seeks to discover the mole while staying alive. We hear her second guessing herself as she tries to complete her mission. The story is suspenseful, but I found the lack of God in the story coupled with the seeming CIA policy to kill all bad guys rather than bring any to justice through the courts disconcerting, especially as Ellie kills her first bad guys and is joking about it by the end. The only mention of God is a reference to her mother teaching her that God is in the details. It felt very unsettling overall.

Eye of the Mind - Sara Davison

This novella begins with an intriguing blind date between 2 people who are not interested in going on the date. The date quickly goes south, especially when one of them witnesses a murder. Throughout the rest of the story, they work together to find the murderer--one that Jules cannot describe the face of due to a medical condition in which she doesn't have a mind's eye. This novella exemplifies the tagline of the book having "thrillers of faith, love, and excitement." Stalking, murder, fire and more keep readers hooked. This was my favorite story of the bunch. It had a good romance, suspense, and a present (althought not perfect) faith in God throughout.

The Parisian Assignment - Lisa Harris
This novella is different than a lot of other things that I've read in that it is written in the first person in present tense as if the character is narrating as it is happening. It has great suspense, including trying to figure out if the people surrounding the main character are who they say they are. The end of the novella left me unsatisfied because it seemed to leave us on a cliffhanger. In a series, it would set up the next book, but I don't know if the story will be continued elsewhere or not. If it's going to be continued, it would have been nice for the publishers to include that information.

Overall, the book is suspenseful, interesting, and has plotlines that are different than the common tropes I find in suspense novels. It's lacking a bit on the love and faith fronts in my opinion, but is a page-turner, nonetheless.

Secrets Beneath The Waves is described as a collection of "Christian thrillers packed with faith, suspense, and heart-pounding action." These four novellas were a mixed bag for me. Two authors were new to me. I offered to read this for Lisa Harris and assumed all the stories would be romantic suspense (as hers are); however, that was not the case. The only one was Sara Davison's, and I enjoyed it. Lisa Harris is beginning a new series, and this first part takes place over a couple of days, so I know the romance will come. The first two are related to other previous books. Terry Toler did an excellent job of including enough information to be read as a stand-alone, and I liked it. In Lisa Phillips', however, I was completely lost.

Death And Shadows by Lisa Phillips. Private Investigator Ramon is asked by his boss to track down her half-sister, Zeyla, and make sure she is all right. In the process, they become involved in the case of young women being kidnapped by the "Count of Shadows."

Apples Don't Fall by Terry Toler. CIA Operative Ellie is on an undercover mission in the Cayman Islands, tasked with finding a mole within the agency. Things turn personal when Ellie's identity is leaked to terrorists who want the daughter of legendary assassin Jamie Austen dead.

Eye Of The Mind by Sara Davison. Escaping from a disastrous blind date with Dante, Jules witnesses a murder. The police sketch artist turns out to be Dante. When Jules is unable to provide a detailed picture of the killer, they must spend time together trying to recreate his face.

The Parisian Assignment by Lisa Harris. CIA officer Samantha and her new partner, Graham, must rescue a kidnapped asset in Paris and stop an international arms deal.

I received a free Kindle copy of this book. I volunteered to read it and write a review.

Death and Shadows by Lisa Phillips is an attention grabber from page 1. Ramon and Zeyla are battling a faceless enemy. Their backup is remote and everything is happening quickly. The story is engrossing and kept me reading far too long just to reach a resolution that didn’t quite come and left me longing for more.
Apples Don’t Fall by Terry Toler: This book is somewhat dark in content though the author seems to attempt a softer approach. It’s a spy thriller (?) but void of coarse language or sexual content. It even has some humor. Just a bit odd to me.
Eye of the Mind by Sarah Davison is part psychological thriller/ part suspense/ part romance and a whole lot of faith. Dante’s conclusion that the God who disappoints us likely isn’t truly God but our manifestation of who we want God to be, a Santa Claus type who grants our every wish versus the true God who is working to make us holy is spot on for me. There are plenty of twists and turns in this book to keep the reader engaged. My favorite story in this collection!
The Parisian Assignment by Lisa Harris: Intrigue upon intrigue and no one is who they seem to be. Who can be trusted? The question is ongoing throughout this story and never resolved. Though it is a complete story there is plenty of room for a next installment. If you like clean suspense you must read this one!
I received an advanced copy of this collection of books and this is my honest opinion.

I absolutely loved Secrets Beneath the Waves, by all four of its authors. Truthfully, this book was a dramatic escape from my daily world, one that offered a desperately needed break. Lisa Phillips wrote the first story at a fast-paced clip. Within Death and Shadows, Ramon finally met his match. Phillips created a story that portrayed Ramon as the hero he is, combatting darkness and evil. The pages flew by in a whirlwind of danger, questions, emotion and truth. Through the pages of Apples Don't Fall, Terry Toler drew me in a tale of danger and intrigue. Toler wrapped me up in a binding weave of international intelligence, self-assessment regarding the job ahead, doubt and finally trust in the training received. This story was filled with possibilities of romance, intrigue, and fulfilment in the path that was chosen. Finally, in Eye of the Mind, Sara Davison reminds us that first impressions are not always what they're cracked up to be. Jules Adler is a woman living life without much of a family, but she's living life to the fullest -- so she thinks. After a disastrous blind first date, Jules experiences chaos, danger, growth and finds emotional support that can enable her to overcome her shortcomings. I loved this book, with all the varied stories, and give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Secrets Beneath the Waves was an exciting anthology that kept me turning pages.
In Death & Shadows: Ramon & Zeyla's story was an exciting one from start to finish. While trying to figure out who's involved in a human trafficking ring, they find up it goes farther that they first imagined and they won't stop until they totally bring it down. The twists & turns in this story was something else & it kept me on the edge of my seat.
In Apples Don't Fall: Ellie Austin is a new CIA agent who has been trained by the best, her mother, who is legendary in the CIA. Ellie needs to find out who it is that's knows all about her assignments, and keeps trying to kill her. There is definitely a mole in the CIA, but who?
In Eye of the Mind: Jules is set up on a blind date with Dante, who unknown to her is a police officer. And neither one of them want to be on this date. Jules steps out to make a call & instead witnesses a murder. Now it's Dante's protection she will need as they try to figure out the killer before he gets to her.
In Parisian Assignment: CIA agent Samantha Jordon & her new partner are hunting for her asset who has been kidnapped and who knows her real identity and has info on covert operations. they must find her soon before a crisis across the globe occurs!

Secrets Beneath the Waves is a beach anthology that has thrilling stories by some well-known Christian authors. All are fast-paced novellas that hook you in and keep you reading until the end. I found all first rated inspirational romantic suspense stories.

Death and Shadows by Lisa Phillips is Ramon and Zelya's story. Both have past of trauma, issues and regrets that must be faced before they can move forward. A timely story where they are investigating miss women.

Apples Don't Fall is written by a new-to-me author, Terry Toler. A wonderful suspenseful story of a CIA mole to be caught with Ellie, a new operative, who is in Cayman Islands. A nail-biting story of trusting the wrong person could turn deadly.

Eye of the Mind by Sara Davison is the most unique of the four stories. A bad date with Jules witnessing a violent crime. It turns out her date, Dante, is a sketch artist who tries to help her then protects her. What a well-written intriguing story. This author has become a new favorite.

The Parisian Assignment by Lisa Harris is another CIA story with Samantha teaming up with Graham to find and protect her kidnapped asset. The case has some international twists so it a few questions not answered by the end. I think more is to come for these characters.

Lisa Harris is a favourite of mine so I've read her story first!

One of the qualities that always draws me back to Harris's stories is her pace. They move at a good clip which helps you to keep turning pages. This is no exception.

Samantha Jordan is a new heroine and this is her first assignment. A short story, set in Paris where her asset has gone missing. He has some valuable intel regarding arms shipments headed towards Africa and unfortunately, for Samantha, the bad guys have got him first.

This story felt a bit soft unlike what Harris has set us up for in the next one. The last 2 chapters and epilogue have set it up well and I'm excited for the premise: Sam and her security sidekick, Graham Bryant, have to go off-grid to find a ledger to vital information that may change the course of global conflicts. I hope it's a full length story. I'm eager to start reading.

A good introduction to Samantha, a CIA operative, that having read a few of Harris's series now, will only grow deeper and bolder in the following stories.

I'll come back to add to this review as I read each of the other 3 stories.

I love these books that are four in one with several authors. In Secrets Beneath the Waves we start with Lisa Harris in her Death and Shadows, a novella connected to the Brand of Justice series. Ramon, a former FBI agent now a private investigator, teams up with Zeyla to investigate several women’s disappearances.

Terry Toler takes us into the spy world and children trained to follow in their parent’s footsteps in Apples Don’t Fall. Ellie, daughter of Jamie & Alex Austin is on her first solo mission searching for a mole.

Eye of the Mind by Sara Davison follows firefighter Jules Adler as she witnesses a murder and the bad blind date who turns out to be the policeman who protects her.

In The Parisian Assignment by Lisa Harris tells the story of a compromised asset and CIA officer Samantha Jordan’s race to find him.

You’ll not go wrong reading this book and it just may introduce to a new author like it did me.

I received this book from the publisher and was not required to leave a review. The opinion is my own.

Death and Shadows by Lisa Phillips had me hooked from the beginning as with all her books. It was so much fun having a story that solely focused on Ramon from her series. This is a fast-paced, suspenseful story with lots twists and turns.

Apples Don't Fall by Terry Toler Is the story of Ellie, Jamie Austen's daughter, who is in Cayman Islands on her first undercover assignment. This story is very interesting, I was not disappointed. Would love to read more by this author.

Eye of the Mind by Sara Davison- I enjoyed this story as well as the others. Not a lot to share about it, but was very twisty and turn-y too.

The Parisian Assignment by Lisa Harris
Her story was very intriguing and captured my attention from the beginning. I read her Fallout series and I really enjoyed her from them. So this intrigued me.

There are a lot of twists and turns in every book. All in all, these 4 stories were very good and I’m glad I read them.

Are you ready for an adventure so amazing that you can barely hold onto your seat? If you said yes, then you will absolutely love Beneath the Waves. From the first word you will be pulled into the story, hanging on for dear life all the way until the final word has been read. The characters are well defined, so much so that you feel that you are in the story with them, experiencing every fright, every turn, every plot twist, every tear, every smile, and every word spoken. I will give a shout out to Lisa Harris, who has been a long-time favorite author of mine. Her books always grip me and hold on tightly. But each of the other authors, new to me, are also fabulous and I will be reading more of their books from here on out. Well done, authors! Thank you for sharing the stories in your hearts.

I love these collections. This one....it was two out of four for me.

Death and Shadows by Lisa Phillips: awesome read. Loved reading more of Ramon, a side character in Phillip's Brand of Justice series. Loved this one.

Apples Don't Fall by Terry Toler: I never read anything by him.....and I wasn't crazy about the story. I didn't like the main character at all - and he being a male author, why didn't he make the main character a guy, btw - she was cold, dated 3 guys at once, had no problem killing people...there didn't seem to be a Christian aspect at all.

Eye of the Mind by Sara Davison: I really liked this one. Great plot and characters, and loved the Christian theme of the story.

The Parisian Assignment by Lisa Harris: I have read and enjoyed her books, but didn't care for this one. The plot was just meh, and I didn't care for the characters much.

This is another outstanding collection of suspenseful stories! Lisa Phillips’ story was superb, and I can’t wait to see more of the main characters. I hadn’t read any of Terry Toler’s work before, but I enjoyed his story very much as well, especially since the operation was a family affair. Sara Davison’s story was so unexpected and unique. I had never heard of a disorder where the person cannot rely on or use their mind’s eye before. Utterly fascinating! Lisa Harris’ story left me wanting more, and I hope that she will continue these characters’ adventures in the future. I highly recommend this collection to anyone who enjoys inspirational suspense, and I am looking forward to reading more from these talented authors.

Four separate suspense-filled stories; four distinct authors; one tension-filled book.

Each of the four unique novellas in this collection take us to different locations and different themes - the only commonality is suspense with a touch of romance. From the warmth of the Cayman Islands to the cold of Canada, spies, distrust, deception, and hope are interwoven in each of the stories. From a mole in the CIA to kidnapping, to an eyewitness to murder who has aphantasia (the inability to picture in your mind's eye), the authors kept me engaged and turning pages well into the night.

I received an ARC; this is my honest review.

This review is for Eye of the Mind, one of the contributions to this heart gripping set! “Pain might be the price you have to pay for love, but the price you pay for refusing to accept that love is far higher." With so much past heartache for both Jules and Dante, the danger and near death experiences Jules was living literally throwing the two of them together, was there the possibility of a second chance at love? Or would the insanity of a stalker annul any possibility of life, much less love? This author writes suspense like no other!! Wow!!

Not quite a beach read as all stories were rather intense! I enjoyed all 4 novellas included in this selection. I had previously read only Lisa Harris, so the assortment of authors and styles was really interesting. Lisa Phillips included so many hints in backstories that I finally went and looked to see if this was part of a series. Terry Toler's submission was a bit more graphic and harsh than I'm used to, however, I just might check out other works by these authors!

I was provided with an advanced copy of this collection. All opinions are my own.

This is another anthology by Two Dogs Publishing that includes 4 novellas by 4 different authors. I have had other books by 1 of the authors before and the other 3 were new to me. That is why I enjoy books like this so you can read authors you like and find new authors that you might enjoy.

These are all fast paced novellas that hook you in from the beginning and having you reading until the end to find out what happens.

I received a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Sara Davison and the publisher. The review expressed here is my honest opinion.

Secrets Beneath the Waves is a collection of stories about spies, investigations and lots of mystery. Each story in this anthology is different enough so I didn't feel stuck in one spy story the whole time but had a variety of paces and different elements.

Death and Shadows by Lisa Phillips was an easy read and a storyline that flowed nicely. For the length of the book the storyline had enough complexity to pull you along and keep you guessing. It had a satisfying ending.

Apples Don't Fall by Terry Toler was an average spy read which I enjoyed but didn't love

Eye of the Mind by Sara Davison was a fun read where the characters had lots of layers and the storyline had a few twists and turns. I really enjoyed this read and it was a great length and feel for an evening or afternoon's entertainment.

The Parisian Assignment by Lisa Harris was a high pressure spy ring story where you don't know who to trust. It was entertaining but had a few loose ends for me so I am hoping there will be more to these characters in another book.

I really enjoyed the first and third books. The second made me wonder why it was included. It seemed to glorify killing. All the dead were bad guys, so I guess they needed killin'"? It just didn't set right with me. Really enjoyed Liisa Phillips' fill-in book on Ramon & Zeyla.

Read and loved Lisa Phillips story! She has a talent to writing nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat thrillers! I loved getting to know more about Ramon and Zeyla. I'm hoping there's going to be some romance between them in the future.

This collection of short suspense was la little hit or miss for me. The anthology included authors and/or series that were new to me. Each story was food, once I figured out who was what. Followers of any of these authors would not go wrong with this collection.
