Gibson Hollow #1

Hero Ever After

Rate this book
I never meant to be anyone’s heroine.

Not when I became the acting mayor of my hometown after the flood. Not when I kept my law practice afloat out of a booth in my grandmother’s diner. And definitely not when my secret romantasy novels went viral.

Nobody in Gibson Hollow knows I’m the author behind the pen name. And nobody was supposed to kiss me at that book convention—least of all my brother’s best friend, cosplaying the hero he doesn’t know I modeled after him.

Now Ramsey Shaw is back in town. Volunteering. Smiling at me like I’m not on the verge of shattering. Like he remembers the kiss. Like he sees the truth.

I’ve spent my whole life being strong. Quiet. In control. But for the first time, I don’t want to be any of those things.

I just want to be his.

In a town held together by hope and heart, it’s the people who show up that make it shine.

This book has so much heart that will make you want to jump in the book and be a part of it! This is probably closer to my heart as it took place in the North Carolina mountains after a hurricane tore it apart. I live in Raleigh and felt all the pain and help that we all went through so far away trying to help last year. Alia was the oldest child (and a twin of Bodie) who ended taking over as interim mayor after her father was hurt helping others. I was so awed by her as she took over handling so many problems that I don’t think I could have been that person. She was also an author that only two people knew about. I can understand why Alia didn’t want paparazzi after her. Alia had been in love with her brother Bodie’s best friend Ramsey since college, but had never let on. You will love what Ramsey did to help Alia out at a book round table that her best friend set her up for without her knowledge. I loved Ramsey! He was such a gentleman (also a football player), and tried to always be there for Alia once he saw all she had been going through. This town was so wonderful about working together to help each other. There are also some colorful characters that you can’t help but love. I have to say I had some happy tears toward the end of the book, so keep Kleenex near! I loved the book and strongly courage you to read it.

I listened to the audiobook

This is the first I’ve read or listened to by Kait Nolan and it won’t be the last. It had my attention and my heart from start to finish.
I loved the story. I loved the NC small town setting. I loved ALL the amazing characters. Especially the main characters. Aila was one strong FMC and Ramsey was heart melting perfection. The way he seen, loved and cared for Aila was just beautiful.
If you love a good romance with a little bit of steamy that will have you in all your feels don’t miss out on this one!

The dual narration performed by Amy McFadden and Sean Masters was incredible. Their skills were really show cased in this with all the characters this story had. The way they captured the personality, emotions and even accents for all of them was amazing! Sean Masters southern older woman voice was pure gold. And the emotion of the characters Amy McFadden delivered was beautiful. I felt every word. They really brought the characters in this story to life!

Story 4 1/2 -5 ⭐️’s
Narration 10 out of 10 ⭐️’s
Spice 1 1/2 - 2 🌶️’s

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this ALC!

5 Star Review Hero Ever After (Gibson Hollow #1) by Kait Nolan

I was so excited when I heard that she had a new series releasing and if this book is anything to go by, then she is off to a great start.

From the first paragraph Kait Nolan drew me in and held me captive with this entertaining and engaging story.

This is acting Mayor and lawyer Alia Gibson and footballer Ramsey Shaw’s story set in small town Gibson Hollow. Not only is Alia busy with her public life but she is also a closet romance writer which adds an additional layer to the story.

Gibson Hollow is full of quirky characters and I love the diversity that the author explores.

This was a well written story with characters that you can easily relate too and whose story I quickly became invested in.

I cannot wait to see what Ms. Nolan has in store for this series.

rcvd an advanced reader copy from the author for giving my review voluntarily. OMG... this is hands down my FAV Kait Nolan book!!! it had be LOL and crying like a baby! We briefly met Alia and Ramsey in previous books. fast forward 10 years, Ramsey went pro with football and Alia is a lawyer and acting town mayor. Alia's home town was devastated by a natural disaster and when her mayoral father is injured she jumps in to help. what everyone doesn't realize is that its taking a toll on her. She has also been keeping a secret for 10 years (except from her BFF Blair), she is a successful author under a pen name. Blair manages to convince her to go to an author panel bc no one and i mean no one knows anything about the author. Ramsey is off for the season and he had a secret that no one knows. he is going to a Con dressed as his fav character from his fav books. he will be in disguise and no one will know who he is. Alia is doing her best at the author event but her nerves get the better of her and thr next thing she knows shes getting rescued...by her main character! Ramsey can't believe his eyes...there is smtg about the author that seems familiar. Ramsey decides to head to see his old bff Bodie and help the town out and Alia doesn't know what to do with her college crush in town. is this a disaster waiting to happen or will the truth be revealed? the book has drama, undisclosed truths and drag queens that bring the sparkle. can't give away too much....u just have to read it!!

I am head over heels in love with Gibson Hollow!

Thank you, Kait, for giving us this new story universe to get lost in and find tons of new friends. And so what if they are imaginary? As Ramsey/“Soren” has proven in quite memorable fashion, sometimes the heroes from our stories do indeed come to life in reality. ;)

Alia and Ramsey are a wonderful match and I loved getting to know them better after having gotten a first glimpse in the prequel novella “Hero After Midnight.” Are these two perfect? Not at all. But are they perfect for each other? Absolutely!

I adore these stories, they have so much heart and industrial-strength (found) family ties. And for the record: The Sasspatch Society is an absolute delight!

This is a feel good, brother's best friend romance with a very strong female main character. Alia is everything women strive to be. Ramsey is everything women dream about in a man. This is a swoon worthy romance.

I loved it!
Okay, can we just talk about how much I loved this book?
Let’s start with Alia. She’s that strong, capable woman who holds everything together—her dad and brothers, after losing their mom, her whole town after almost storm wipes it out, all while continuing to practice law. She’s tough, but she’s starting to internal collapse under weight of everything she’s carrying.
Then comes Ramsey. He is one of her brother’s best friends, ripped, respects her strength, and has secretly wanted her for the last 10 years!!! He doesn’t just admire Alia’s strength, he sees the side of her that needs support, too. That part really melted me, because sometimes even the strongest people need someone to lean on.
Add in Biscuit, the cute little dog they rescue, a secretly successful author twist (which I loved), and a great cast of family and friends, and this book hit all the right notes for me. It was cozy, heartwarming, and just the right mix of romance and community vibes.
Basically, if you’re into small-town romances with a strong heroine, a hero who’s got her back, and a dog who steals the show, you need to read this one.

Universal

Ever since the flood that devastated Gibson Hollow, Alia has taken over the duties of keeping the town together, in place of her father, the town's mayor. She may seem like the most competent person to take over for him (and she is), but all the hours she's putting in have left her little (no) time to take care of herself. She has no choice, though, to help everyone in this town she loves. Because if she doesn't do it, who will, even if every minute pushes her closer to a complete breakdown.

Back when Ramsey and Alia had their moment, he was young and saw no way to chase his football dream AND be with his best friend's sister. So they stayed a secret, he left, and they've never since come close to what they had before. What Alia doesn't know, though, is that he's never lost track of her, never stopped thinking of what could have been. Now he has his chance to see her up close and in person when he comes back home for the offseason. Seeing how much she has on her shoulders and how she's not taking the time to care for herself, he takes it upon himself to do it for her. He'll be her rock, this just may be their time, if she lets him in.

Alia freaking rocks. She's the strongest heroine I think I've read in a possibly forever. She's the center, the backbone, the captain of her family and her entire town. I shed more than a few tears, though, that she took all that on and no one until Ramsey came home, ever thought to ask if she was OK, if it was too much. Thank God Ramsey's perceptive, loving eye lasered in on her and forced everyone to look deeper. Speaking of Ramsey, this #SwoonyMcBroadsword is the sweetest, definitely the swooniest, hero Kait's ever written. I love these two and their heartfelt love story. Now I'm impatiently awaiting Bodie's (Alia's brother/Ramsey's best friend) story next, Hero, Unexpected.

It was such a treat to spend time in a new location outside of Wishful! Even though the setting was different, it still carried Kait Nolan’s signature touch—richly drawn characters, heartfelt relationships, and a story that pulls you in from the first page. I loved seeing how she brought a whole new place to life while still delivering the kind of depth and emotional resonance I’ve come to expect from her books.

I absolutely adored the cast in this book! Blair is the ultimate best friend. She's funny, fearless, and full of heart. Alia’s army of brothers adds so much chaotic love, and Uncle Dee and the Sasspatch Society completely steal the show with their sass and warmth. The romance is swoony and heartfelt, with that perfect tie-in to the masked encounter from the prequel. And the social media posts speculating about Ramsey’s identity? Hilarious, and a really fun way to weave in the outside world's perspective into the story.

This is my first audiobook from Kait Nolan and I am a fan!

I was sucked in and enjoyed listening to this story while I was in my car.

Ramsey and Alia were such good characters and a true match for one another. The fact that they held out for 12 years is beyond me, just because they wouldn’t communicate with each other….

Alia is a true QUEEN, she is the eldest Gibson and a twin of Bodie. She is the one to take over as interim mayor after her father was hurt helping others. She was a force for all that she took over handling so many problems that I don't think everyone saw what she was doing and how it was effecting her. She was also an author that only two people knew about….. Blair who was the one who pushed her book and into the word and Ramsey who is one of her fans which she doesn’t know yet…. Alia had been in love with her brother Bodie's best friend Ramsey since college, but had never let on. Because she always thought he only saw her as another sibling like a sister, oh sweet girl how wrong you were.

Ramsey Shaw, was the one who helped Alia out at a book signing that she had no intentions to go to who no other than her best friend set her up for without her knowledge. Ramsey, was such a true gentleman and tried to always be there for Alia once he saw all she had been going through. He was tired of keeping away, he was the one who made the choice all those years ago to walk away because of words that Bodie said him. She needs someone to be present and with Ramsey getting drafted he knew he couldn’t be that person for her then but now he was more than happy to be.

Listening to this book had me in so many emotions, happy, smiling ear to ear but also on the verge of tears after hearing certain people’s situation and how Alias books helped them through it. This was a good one for sure!!!

This town was so wonderful about working together to help each other. All the side characters and Uncle D and the saspatch society- they were my favorite. And once everyone finally knew what the toll of all the work and the important meeting was taking on Alia they came through but so did her readers.

Quotes that I couldn’t stop thinking, laughing or giggling like a school girl about:

“Let’s go princess.”

“This is not a rom-com, There are no oops one bed situations.”

“Does the bottom match,I guess you’ll have to unwrap to match.”

“How can you write kisses like that and then blush so much when someone says nipple out loud.”

I came for Sean Masters' narration but stayed for this delightfully sweet and charming series starter to Gibson Hollow. Hero Ever After launches the Gibson Hollow series with a heartfelt, small town romance that’s equal parts tender, empowering, and impossible to put down.

Alia Gibson has become the glue holding her flood-stricken town together. She's acting mayor, practicing lawyer, problem-solver, emotional first responder, and the quiet force everyone relies on. What no one knows is that, in the few scraps of time she carves out for herself, she writes bestselling romance novels under a secret pen name. She’s the definition of strength, but that strength is starting to show cracks. Then comes Ramsey Shaw, NFL star, hometown hero, and her brother’s best friend. Years ago, they shared a brief, hidden spark before he left to chase his football dreams. Alia believes the moment meant nothing; Ramsey never stopped thinking about her. When he returns home for the offseason and sees how much she’s carrying, he makes it his mission to give her the support she’s never allowed herself to ask for.

Their dynamic is swoon-worthy from the start. Alia’s competence and quiet exhaustion meeting Ramsey’s steady, patient devotion is a great mix. He doesn’t just admire her resilience, he recognizes the weight on her shoulders and steps in not to overshadow her, but to stand beside her. Watching him gently coax her into letting someone care for her is romantic gold. SWOOON.

Gibson Hollow itself shines, packed with quirky, lovable side characters, community warmth, and the rescue dog Biscuit stealing scenes in the best way. The romance delivers everything fans of the trope crave: brother’s best friend, longtime pining, emotional vulnerability, and a hero who sees the woman he loves clearly and completely. It's delightfully sweet and dreamy.

The narration from Amy McFadden and Sean Masters elevates the entire experience. I clearly am a Sean fan since I picked up this audio given his narration. But I loved Amy as well and found the listen captivating. Their voices bring the town, its humor, its heart, and its Southern charm to life beautifully. Every character distinct, every emotion felt.

Cozy, uplifting, and beautifully tender, Hero Ever After is a love letter to strong women, supportive partners, and the magic of community. It’s the perfect start to the series, and it’ll leave you counting down the days until Bodie’s story. I can't wait to check out more.

Love and a soft place to land

This book was just so very good. It’s a heartwarming and spicy story about love, found family, trauma and healing built around intense, strong, passionate, messy, relatable and likeable humans. It’s one of those books that you dive in head first and stay completely absorbed in until the very last word. And oh the feels. Phew - I was feeling all of them with this one - laughing, crying, sighing, groaning, teeth gritting, and swooning. I have a soft spot for the people who are a bit scarred, wounded, and bruised, like Alia. I just wanna reach into the story and hug them to help them heal. Alia Gibson lives in small town Gibson Hollow. She’s a lawyer by trade and from a young age has been responsible for everything and everybody in her large family. She’s spent the last 5 months since a flood devastated Gibson Hollow serving as the interim mayor and holding the town together with a wing and a prayer. Since the flood, she has been unable to write the romance novels that are her real passion. Ramsey has a protective streak a mile wide and has been a professional football player for a decade. Alia’s twin brother is best friends with Ramsey. A decade ago Alia and Ramsey shared a magical night with steamy kisses that went no further because of divergent life paths and Ramsey’s sense of honor. The interrupted journey to their HEA restarts when their lives crash back together unexpectedly at a book conference when Ramsey rescues Alia while cosplaying the hero from her books. What follows the unexpected swoony encounter is a wonderful journey of baggage unpacking, healing, and life course correction. I loved the way Ramsey gently, lovingly, and beautifully helped and supported Alia without being asked allowing her to heal her trauma, set her own boundaries and find her own power. This small town, first love, brother’s best friend story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline. I would expect nothing less from a Kait Nolan book. All her books make my heart feel happy and full. Of course, now I’m in love with this small town, the Gibson family, and the Sasspatch Society. I can’t wait to read about the next couple who will no doubt get me to fall in love with them.

She's an author and he's her biggest fan

This is a story about a small town trying to come back from a natural disaster and a heroine who is doing everything possible to help the town survive. It's also a touching romance about a writer and her biggest fan - both with secret identities - who have known and loved each other since college but have never confessed their feelings to each other.

Alia writes a best selling romantasy series under a pen name. With the exception of a friend responsible for marketing the books, nobody else is aware of her identity. When her town is destroyed by a hurricane and flood, she steps in as mayor and an attorney to help file claims with FEMA, coordinate volunteer crews, search for funding for the rebuild and to do all she can to pull the community together. While her royalties are helping to keep the town afloat, she's exhausted, on the verge of burnout and unable to write.

The story kicks off when her friend convinces her to participate in a panel at a romantasy fan convention. She's disguised because nobody knows that she's an author. Ramsey, a star NFL tight end, is also at the convention. A huge fan of Alia's books, he's in costume as the knight hero of her initial series. When she has a panic attack in response to crowd questions, he storms the stage and rescues her - "Time to go, Princess". Each recognizes the other but neither admits that they know.

Ramsey realizes that he needs to take his shot and he travels to her small town to help with the recovery effort. In addition to helping with repairs and funding, he protects Alia - making sure she eats, minimizing interruptions so she can focus and intervening when people try to take advantage. He becomes a safe place for her and helps her see that she doesn't have to do everything alone. And, their romance sparks her creativity again.

This is a slow burn. If the pacing of the first half of the book had been a smidge faster, it would have been 5 stars.

Having lived through a very destructive wildfire in Colorado, I empathized and understood the community's trials. (We were in the middle of the burn zone and about 10% of the houses in our small town were destroyed.) As the author shows, disasters of this type most affect those with the least resources and the process of appealing to indifferent government officials is enormously frustrating.

Hero Ever After is the first novel in Kait Nolan’s Gibson Hollow series. Alia Gibson, eldest of eight Gibson siblings, including her twin Bodie, has shouldered more responsibilities for the family than maybe the rest combined since their mother passed when Alia was in her teens. Now she is doing the same for her western North Carolina town of Gibson Hollow that suffered greatly from the hurricane and subsequent flooding that nearly destroyed the town as well as almost killing her Dad, the mayor. While her Dad is recovering from his multiple injuries in Nashville, Alia is serving as interim mayor and overseeing the town cleanup efforts from a corner booth in her Grandma Elsie’s diner since her offices were destroyed. She is also staying with her quirky Uncle Dee to free up housing when so many were left unhomed.

While a competent mayor and an even more accomplished attorney, Alia, unbeknownst to anyone but her best friend and manager Blair Young, is also best selling romantasy author Kella Harman. Blair books Alia to speak on a panel at a fantasy fan event in Atlanta. When Alia learns of this she pulls every excuse to not go but is ultimately convinced and must let Uncle Dee into her secret to gain his assistance in formulating a disguise as she wants to remain anonymous.

Alia also doesn’t know that her brother’s best friend, and her secret crush since college, football player Ramsay Shaw is a dedicated fan. With the season over, Ramsay has had a custom made cosplay costume fabricated and attends the panel. When Alia panics, Ramsay, not knowing it is actually Alia when he acts, comes to her rescue. And just like he did at the costume ball in college when he recognized her, he captures her in a passionate embrace before he takes his leave. Soon after, Ramsay comes to Gibson Hollow to see how he might help.

This is such a good story of family dedication, dynamics in a large sibling group, the recovery in an almost destroyed town, and how a group of outsiders can pull together to help in the name of a beloved storyteller. This story is intricately woven with dynamic characters and a tragic setting with more than one surprise along the way. I very much enjoyed this book and I do recommend it!

OMG – I loved Alia and Ramsey’s love story in Hero Ever After by Kait Nolan, book one in the Gibson Hollow series; a heartwarming, emotional, romantic, second-chance romance. A story that will grab your heart and emotions from page one to the last, and continues on through the additional epilogue.

Gibson Hollow is trying, as best they can, to recover from a catastrophic flood that devastated the town. Alia Gibson, a lawyer by profession and secretly a fantasy romance writer, cared for her many siblings after her mother’s death. Her father suffered a severe accident during the rebuilding and now is away in Nashville hospitalized for an extended period of time; so now she is caring for the town. This job is a huge weight for her to carry as she takes on every job herself when asked by her family and the residents of this town. The weight on her shoulders is heavy. If that wasn’t enough, her best friend, Blair, signed her up to be part of a panel at a fantasy romance convention.

Ramsey Shaw, a famous football player, has been in love with his best friend’s sister Alia for over a decade. These two shared two smoldering kisses, each in a situation where they were unsure the other was aware; because of wearing masks and disguises. After talking with his best friend Bodie, police chief and Alia’s twin, Ramsey comes to Gibson Hollow for the off season to help with the devastation. He recognizes the weight on Alia that no one else sees. Ramsey becomes Alia’s rock and soft place to land. He understands her, supports her, and makes sure that she’s being taken care of.

This was heartwarming, touching, romantic, and provided all the feels. Ramsey saw Alia. He understood her, supported her, loved her, and let her be her. Other than Blair and Uncle Dee, he provided her with what she needed. Besides the community, family and construction, we have pocket snacks, biscuits, office dragons, the Sasspatch Society, social media frenzy, and a relationship that is swoon-worthy. This is a story about family, not only the one you’re born into, but also the one formed by those who love you and care for you. I need a Grump wrangler and would really love an Office dragon. I can’t wait to return to Gibson Hollow and figure out what is going on with Bodie.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Hero Ever After (Gibson Hollow #1)
by Kait Nolan

I was genuinely thrilled to hear about the release of Kait Nolan's new series, and if this book is any indication, she has launched it with remarkable success. Alia and Ramsey have harboured feelings for each other for years, though they have both kept those feelings buried deep within themselves.

Alia Gibson is not only a dedicated attorney but also the eldest sibling in the close-knit Gibson family. Following a devastating hurricane that severely injured her father and wreaked havoc on the small town of Gibson Hollow, Alia stepped up to take on the responsibilities of the town's Mayor. The town, named after her family, is a place where everyone knows each other, and community spirit is strong. Alongside her public duties, Alia has a hidden passion: she is an accomplished author, having penned several best-selling novels that have captivated readers far and wide.

Ramsey Shaw, a talented player for the Charleston Sentinels, has been a regular presence in Alia’s life, being one of her twin brother’s closest friends since childhood. As the football season comes to a close, Ramsey decides to return to Gibson Hollow to assist with the post-hurricane cleanup efforts. As events unfold, it becomes increasingly clear that his return to the community is motivated not just by a desire to lend a helping hand, but also by a profound longing to reconnect with Alia. He observes that she is overwhelmed by the considerable weight of her responsibilities—juggling the demands of her role as Mayor. while forgetting about her secret life as the mysterious author of the novels that have captivated him and others. He can sense her struggle, as the pressures of leadership affect personal identity, begin to take a toll, leaving her feeling isolated in her multifaceted roles.

This captivating story explores rich themes of community, love, and the bonds of family—both the ones we are born into and those we choose along the way. The diverse cast of characters is beautifully crafted, and it's impossible not to fall in love with each of them as they navigate the challenges and joys of life in Gibson Hollow.

I received a free ALC of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and left voluntarily.

OMG! I loved this feel-good story! The very well-written plot has brother's best friend/best friend's twin sister, secret crush, „it's always been you“ and hidden identity tropes. It's entertaining, emotional, and steamy with plenty of LOL moments and moving ones that brought tears to my eyes. I laugh every time I think about the chat histories, Alia‘s quirky family and friends, and especially the lovable Sasspatch society. Alia and Ramsey are absolutely endearing. She is strong and caring for others, and he is the protective cinnamon roll hero who would do anything for her. I also really liked the small-town atmosphere and the the humor and the helpfulness of its residents.

The narrators were top-notch and perfectly matched to the characters. Sean Masters has a pleasant, calm voice, just as I imagined Ramsey to be. Amy McFadden conveyed Alia's emotions wonderfully.

When Gibson Hollow is hit by a catastrophic flood, lawyer and secret romantic fantasy author Alia Gibson takes over as interim mayor, managing and delegating the reconstruction of the small town. She is also the head and heart of her extended family, without paying attention to herself. When her best friend and manager sends Alia to a book convention under her pen name, she is anything but happy, as she is suffering from writer's block and does not want to reveal her identity. When things get dicey, she is rescued by none other than NFL player Ramsey Shaw in disguise, her twin brother's best friend and her former secret crush.
Ramsey has always been in love with Alia, but knowing that he would be leaving Gibson Hollow for his career and not wanting to upset his friend, he never revealed his feelings.
Now, when he sees Alia again and realizes how stressed and alone she is with her duties and responsibilities, he travels to Gibson Hollow to support her...

I highly recommend both the heartwarming story itself and the great audiobook!

I was enthralled by this book from the first chapter. It’s clever, fun, and heartwarming. No surprise, for Kait Nolan is a skilled and entertaining writer. This book, though, took things another step towards charming and engaging. I can’t wait to see what comes next in this series.

This is the first full book in the Gibson Hollow series. A massive flood hit Gibson Hollow, the result of a hurricane. Much damage was done, including to Alia Gibson’s father, the town’s mayor. Seriously injured during rescue work, he was rushed to Nashville for treatment. That left Alia, an attorney and the oldest of the Gibson siblings, to step in and take over. She’s been dealing with all the bureaucracy and local needs from a booth of her grandmother’s diner. It’s a job that doesn’t allow her even a moment to herself, but she’s determined to do what’s right for the people of Gibson Hollow.

Ramsey Shaw plays for the Charleston Sentinels. He’s good at what he does. The season’s come to an end, and Ramsey decides that he’s going to head to see his best friend, the police chief of Gibson Hollow, and lend a hand with the clean-up and repair. But first, he attends a fantasy romance convention, hoping for a chance to see his favorite author speak on a panel. There’s a secret waiting for him there, and he’ll not hesitate to act as a hero.

I loved this book. Everything about it was entertaining and fresh. The format was slightly different than those used in earlier books by Nolan, but it worked very well. The strongest force in her books is always the characters, and it’s not different in this book. The large cast is made up of different personalities, and they all work. The plot unfolds with believable twists and turns, but you always know that there will be a happy ending. A strong southern sensibility threads through the book, adding a dose of character to the tale. All in all, this book will have you smiling and laughing, as well as oohing and ahhing.

I highly recommend this book.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the author. I thank her for her generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.

I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book. Written in first person from an alternating dual POV, this first book of a new series can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA.
To say that I loved this book would be a massive understatement. I have read several books by this author, and this is my favorite book of hers ever. Alia is strong, compassionate, creative, and fierce. Ramsey is EVERYTHING. He is swoony, committed, loyal, insightful, kind, and intimidating when he needs to be. He sees Alia and doesn't hesitate to take care of her even if it means standing up for her where no one else has. I adored the heat between them, but even more I loved their connection with each other. It was soft, warm, and electric all at once. I appreciated that they didn’t have a third act break up. They had spent so much time apart in the ten years since college that they needed to be together more than anything.
I also loved the Gibson family and the small town of Gibson Hollow. The author set this series in the beautiful little town in the mountains of North Carolina. Drawing upon recent floods that ravaged that area, the Hollow is rebuilding after the devastation of a massive flood. The people of the town come together with solidarity and quiet strength to recover their town from the damage. The cast of secondary characters are truly special. Uncle Dee and the Sasspatch Society are a group of people I want to hang with. Alia's best friend, Blair, is a fierce, glittery, human and the ride or di3 friend everyone should have. The author has created a world full of inclusiveness, respect, and love on so many levels it is unmatched. It is a world I would hope that we could someday achieve. It is a world I longed to stay in.

Not sure where to start with my thoughts about this book, as there are many. So I will start with this: Ms. Nolan is one of our favorite authors, and I adore and love her books. If honest, I'm probably 80 percent through her catalogue already, but Hero Ever After has been her best work yet. If I could give this story's plot more than 5 stars, I would.

The story's plot was heartfelt, emotional, engaging, filled with family and friends, hard times, and full of wonderful characters that Sasspatch Society had me laughing throughout the entire book. They were god sent and busy bodies with the best intentions, and the dialogue between them caused belly laughter.

There wasn't a character we did not fall in love with, Aila, our favorite, a steadfast and lovable woman with a heart of gold. We resonated with her character a lot, as I had been in a very similar situation as she was growing up. We loved that Ramsey saw her where others did not. The weight of it all she carried. She may have been the Pillar of the family, but that does not mean she is immune to cracking.

From the moment we started turning the pages, we were hooked, and we loved everything about the story, how realistic it felt, a big, loving family, a community that takes care of its own. The book made you laugh as well as cry; it takes you through a range of emotions just like its characters. The were several parts that we found ourselves re-reading all over again and laughing out loud once more.

The chemistry the honesty between Ramsey and Aila was heartfelt and swoony. Ramsey was a sweetheart of a man, caring, loving, and fun, and he, too, had a heart of gold. The cast of characters could not be more perfect for this story. We loved them all, looking forward to Aila's brothers' stories to come.

What a lovely surprise! I've never read Kait Nolan before, but having just finished Hero Ever After, I most certainly intend to read more. In all honesty, the author's note at the beginning of the book made me roll my eyes. "More righteous do=goodism being shoved down our throats" I thought when I heard Ms. Nolan speak of a town where everyone is accepted for who they are without preconceived judgment. But the author was right. I'd gladly move to Gibson Hills in a heartbeat. Nestled in the Carolina hills, Gibson Hills is a town where everyone knows everything about everyone, but where that knowing is accompanied by a deep spirit of love and protection. The town's physical infrastructure was destroyed by the hurricane that swept its fury inland, and its social infrastructure came close to collapsing when its mayor was incapacitated attempting to rescue friends. And so his insanely capable daughter, a lawyer, steps in and promptly becomes the pack mule for all the town's problems: missing property deeds, rejected FEMA claims, broken water lines, etc. Good thing no one knows that she has a secret life under another name as the bestselling author of a fabulous romantasy series. And good thing no one knows that the small-town football star, now a national superstar, whom she once loved (and still dreams of), is her biggest, anonymous fan. Thank God for the Sasspatch Society (a band of lovable busybodies who might elsewhere be excluded from society) and their interfering pushing and prodding. I loved every silly hashtag, every swoon-worthy act of chivalry, and every interruption by the cute puppy, Biscuit. I can't wait to return to Gibson Hills and spend more time with these marvelous characters. I’m very grateful to NetGalley for a review audio copy of this fabulous book.

I have already read Kait Nolan's Kilted hearts series and part of Men of the Misfit Inn series, so I knew I was in for a treat when I started reading "Hero ever after".

This book deserves five stars and more. I love the writing style, funny, creative and with a feel good vibe that still lingers, long after I finished reading.

The story centers around Alia and Ramsey , who had feelings for each other since college, but none of them had the courage to act on it. Until Ramsey sees her unravel under the weight of her new responsibilities and steps in like the hero she depicted him to be in one of her romantasy books. Add in a tight knit family, a bunch of meddling friends and a horde of raving bookfans, and their love story is ready to pop up.

But this is more than it. This book is about people coming together in a time of need, helping each other, supporting each other, and trying to get the best out of a disastrous situation.

Favorite quote:
"Maybe I should have asked questions, demanded answers, screamed about being manhandled by a fictional figment of my imagination, but instead I clung tighter to the edges of his breastplate, and let him carry me off the stage."

I received the audiobook version of this book, read by Amy McFadden and Sean Masters. I so enjoyed Amy's southern accent and Sean's deep voice. The pacing was good and easy to keep up. The only down for me: I couldn’t easily catch the group conversations or the social media posts, and needed to rewind several times to understand who said what. That is easier with a physical copy, but it's a preference matter.

I am very excited for the other books in the series to come out.

I listened to this book in audio format and really enjoyed it. The story follows a small-town lawyer who suddenly finds herself juggling a lot—acting mayor duties after a devastating flood, running her law practice out of her grandmother’s diner, and secretly being the bestselling author of viral romantasy novels. None of that is public knowledge in Gibson Hollow, though, which adds a fun layer of tension to everything.
Things get even messier when Ramsey Shaw—her brother’s best friend and the real-life inspiration behind the hero in her books—comes back to town. The two share a kiss at a book convention while he’s cosplaying the very character she modeled after him… except he doesn’t know she’s the author. When he shows up back home acting like that moment meant something, all the carefully built walls around her life start cracking.
What I liked most about this story was the cozy small-town atmosphere and the sense of community after the flood. Alia carries so much responsibility and pressure, and it felt believable watching her struggle with always being “the strong one.” Ramsey is the kind of love interest who shows up when it counts, and their chemistry had some really sweet moments.
The audiobook narration was easy to listen to and helped bring out the emotional beats of the story, especially the quieter scenes between Ramsey and Alia.
If you like small-town romances, brother’s-best-friend tropes, and stories about women who are used to holding everything together finally letting themselves be vulnerable, this one is definitely worth a listen.

and Sean Masters. I was completely engaged by their amazing work, taking my mind right to Gibson Hollow as if I lived there and actually knew all the people in the story. I can't give these two enough stars for range of expression - this book was just incredible to listen to. Ms. Nolan wrote an incredibly detailed and heartfelt story for them to work with. The town of Gibson Hollow was full of great characters and convincing small town dynamics, creating a perfect backdrop for the romance between Alia and Ramsey. These two have history (small town high school, brother's best friend, youthful meet/cute of sorts); their present day meet/cute is so creative! Eventually their paths cross in Gibson Hollow when Alia steps up as acting mayor to help the town recover from a major flood event and Ramsey returns to join the effort and to see her again. I loved that Alia had a secret life as a romantasy author and how that fact waited in the wings for quite a while before breaking into the plot and really shaking things up. Not everything in the story is serious - there is plenty of just plain fun dialogue, and an adorable dog that nearly steals the show. At one point Biscuit is described as "the smallest, most judgy therapist". I thoroughly enjoyed this extraordinary story, especially in its audiobook presentation, and I am thrilled that this is just the first book in the series. I am certainly ready to read more about the folks of GIbson Hollow.

I was given a copy of this audiobook and happily volunteered to write a review.

🎙️💞 🎧 ARC Audio Review: Hero Ever After by Kait Nolan 💞🎙️

Sometimes being strong isn’t about holding it all together—it’s about letting yourself fall. 🕊️

Meet Maisie, small-town lawyer, accidental mayor, and secret romantasy author whose hidden words suddenly go viral. No one in Gibson Hollow knows she’s the writer behind the beloved stories… or that the hero in her books was inspired by her brother’s best friend. 👀📚

Enter Ramsey Shaw — charming, loyal, and the very man she never thought would look at her that way. When a surprise kiss at a book convention turns their worlds upside down, the chemistry they’ve ignored for years finally bursts into the open. 🔥💋

Between rebuilding a town after a devastating flood, balancing her grandmother’s diner, and guarding her secret identity, Maisie learns that being a hero doesn’t mean being perfect — it means showing up. And Ramsey? He’s ready to show up for her, every single time. 🫶🏽🌧️🏡

This story is tender, witty, and so full of heart. Kate Nolan delivers a slow-burn romance about second chances, self-discovery, and the courage to write your own ending. 🪶💖

🎧 Perfect for fans of small-town charm, hidden identities, and brother’s-best-friend tension that melts you from the inside out.

Ramsey decides to attend a book conference where the author of some books he likes is going to be. Alia is in disguise as she doesn’t want to be fawned over. As she is being questioned, Ramsey who is dressed as one of the characters in her book notices that she is about to have a melt down from the questions she is being pounded with. So he rescues her and carries her away from the crowd. Alia heads home to pick up her job as mayor and lawyer for the town and Ramsey heads back to his home to decide what is going to do in the off season of pro football. Ramsey ends up in Gibson Hollow when his friend and Alia’s brother, invites him to help rebuild the town that was heavily damaged in a hurricane. Ramsey and Alia have known each other since their college years, but haven’t seen each other in a few years because of Ramsey’s football career. Now they are suddenly working together. Can they rekindle the relationship they didn’t realize they had all those years ago? Can Ramsey help Alia work through how to handle all the balls she balances as mayor and lawyer? I loved the work these two did and how hard Ramsey worked to help Alia and support her. And that the town works hard to recover from the hurricane even when there is not a lot of resources out there for them.

My heart is completely full after reading the first book in the Gibson Hollow series. I have read every book by Kait Nolan and although I love them and recommend them to friends and family, Hero Ever After is HANDS DOWN my very favorite book!!
Alia and Ramsey are completely enthralling characters that I loved from the get-go. This woman's strength is superhuman, I don't understand how she has not cracked under the strain of trying bringing a whole town back to life. Not to mention, her family's 15 plus years of grief. Ramsey is that hero that every romance reader swoons over. He's the total package...sweet, sexy, intuitive, in touch with his feelings and fine as heck! Their connection is magical.
But the thing that moved this book from great to my favorite ever (I said that already, right) is the cast of secondary characters...who are by no means secondary in my heart! From take charge bestie, Blair to Uncle Dee and the sparkle, glitter and scheming of the Sasspatch Society to Grandma Elsie and the rest of Alia's large, crazy family...every member added light, laughter and fun to the story. This was no cookie cutter town; it was a cross section of small town anywhere, where people were accepted and embraced for their differences. I cannot wait to to back to visit
I wish I could make this a 100 star review, but I'll have to settle for a very enthusiastic 5 star instead!!

Hero Ever After

Narrated by: Amy McFadden, Sean Masters

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

💍 Brothers Best Friend
✨It Was Always You
💍Off Limits
✨Romantasy Author
💍Eldest Daughter

Genre: Small Town Romance

Released: 8/22/2025

This is the first book of her new series Gibson Hollow. Our main characters are Alia & Ramsey. Alia is part of the Gibson family; she’s the eldest daughter. (&& if we listen to Taylor Swift we know we got a lot of things coming) Alia is trying to save the town after a catastrophic flooding but before all of this she was an author as well but under a pen name because she wanted to keep this to herself. However people are wondering when her next romantasy book is coming out as she hasn’t written since the flood. Ramsey is our football player (he’s the brother’s best friend) He’s always had a secret crush on Alia. Can he continue to resist her after finding out she’s been trying to help out her town?

This was such a cute small town romance. You can tell Ramsey was the one for Alia. He saw her when no one else did. He saw her struggles and what she was dealing with for her small town.

Amy & Sean did amazing. I love how they expressed the characters in the book.

As always please check the TWs!

Thank you to NetGalley, Erin & Take the leap publishing for the ALC! I appreciate it!

A fun, witty, smart, emotional well narrated story. Alia hasn’t had a moment to herself since she was 16. She became not only the family “go to person”. but the entire town. She became the de facto parent to her siblings and then ultimately the local Mayor when a flood devastated their beloved town. None of this was asked for, she did not run for the position, but because she was so smart and good at handing it all, everyone just kept piling on and piling on. The one thing she had for herself was her writing. That is until her truly invasive obnoxious BFF decided to publish it for her without her knowledge. Ultimately a good thing, but wow, talk about overstepping. I was not and am not a fan of Blairs. Alia was secretly and silently been in love with her twin brother's BFF Ramsey, a pro football player for what feels like forever and in what seems like a twist of fate when Blair yet again oversteps her boundaries, she and Ramsey finally get together. Phew, as they are truly perfect for each other. I look forward to the next to see what happens as they rebuild their sweet town filled with wonderful, kind, quirky and loving characters.
