Annie's affection kind of came out of nowhere. no real development there, but otherwise I really like it and the concepts.

This is a light novel I regret purchasing.
This is not a first time author (he wrote the Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor series) but it reads very much like an author’s first work.
It felt like he was trying too hard in many places, layering descriptions upon descriptions, sometimes to the point it conflicted somewhat with an earlier part of said description).
The elements for a good story are here. The characters are decent enough. The plot is mostly ok. But the author failed to pull it all together into a well written story.
This felt as though it was possibly intended for a younger audience (maybe it was) in terms of the level it was written at.
Overall I felt like it could have been better, and knowing this author already has a lot of other books under their belt, it was a disappointing effort.
I have never read Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor, but given what I found in this book, I don’t have any desire to check it out (as I assume the quality of the writing is going to be the same — perhaps I am wrong on that front, but nothing I read here gives me any faith that is the case).
There is another volume forthcoming for this series but I will not be picking it up. I am one and done with this series.
