Nikki: I thought the nightmares had subsided until the news broke out about his escape. Now, it feels like I’m constantly looking over my shoulder. When the manila envelopes started showing up at my door, I should have run, but this town and this bar are my home, and I’m tired of running. And then there’s Dean—the new guy at the bar. He’s handsome, drop-dead fucking gorgeous, honestly. My body has this strange pull to him, one I can’t explain. Then he started acting strange one night, and I went snooping. I wish I hadn’t.
Dean: I’ve been obsessed since the moment I laid eyes on her. There’s a darkness in her that calls to mine. I’ve been waiting, watching her from a distance. When the opportunity finally arose, I inserted myself into her life. It’s easier to protect her if I’m closer. When he escaped, I knew I had to find him before he found her. But things don’t always go according to plan.
-Dual POV -A cat! (Bonus points that he’s orange) -Touch her and die -Morally grey MMC who is also a little bit of a cinnamon roll -Bad ass FMC

I really enjoyed this book and thank you so much Kay Oss for letting me read it 💗
This is definitely dark (check your triggers). The story centers on Nikki and Dean and shows the flashbacks of both of their traumas and how they each coped with them. I loved how their stories connected them and their journey to healing. The ending seemed a little rushed, but the epilogue brought it all together. I will for sure be reading more books by the author as she writes more.
Don't Speak. Pretty fitting title because I have no words beyond "thank you book gods for this absolutely spectacular read". By chance I came across Kay Oss's page on Instagram promoting the ARC signup that was closing in a few days. I read the blurb, jumped at the chance, and note the excitement that I was luckily picked. Once I dove in I seriously couldn't stop, and for the first time in forever, finished a book the same day I started, literally only pausing to take out the dog. The thrill, the suspense, the chemistry between the two powerhouse characters, Don't Speak has everything I could ever love in a book and then multiplied to a whole new level.
I have nothing but high praise for this book. What I think makes it stand out is the perfect blend of dual POVs and also the past versus the present. Each chapter you get to see what Dean and Nikki were thinking and doing, never once just repeating each other. Both characters on their own were strong and tough. Put them together and it's absolute fire. The chapters set in the past are just as powerful and it's a story that needs to be told and heard, for those who lived it and for those who have the chance to stop it. I see you now Kay Oss and I'm already itching for whatever comes from your mind next, because you nailed this first one.
"You taste so good baby" I growl. "You taste like mine"

So right away this book drew my attention because it's inspired by Dean from Supernatural and the FMC is named Nikki 🤣 so I applied for the ARC and here we are. Thank you Kay for the opportunity🖤
As soon as I opened the book I loved Nikki... her style, her love for books (peep reference to Mercencary and the Mortician and Make Me) her love for salted caramel, having a cat named Simba (come on 😆🥰), her taste in music, meeting her best friend working at a vets office, snakes & mermaids and literally every reference to her favorite shows or movies as a child.... KISMET, and thats the first time I've felt this way with any character I've read about- literally am I reading about an alternate version of myself?! She takes shit from no one and my heart broke for her with every nightmare.😭
Dean is definitely that morally grey MMC with a tragic past. Reading about his sister was absolutely gutwrenching. He is very possessive and intense- makes sense given his history, but he is super attentive- especially with aftercare. I appreciated his respect for Nikki when she put up her boundaries.
This book has a very direct and no nonsense dialogue. It isn't filled with a bunch of internal monologue, more narrating their tasks and activities of the day. I find that refreshing in a book, sometimes the constant rehashing of the same emotion or issue over and over again in a character's head can get tiring.
This book… it broke & healed me at the same time. Knowing that the flashbacks of the FL, Nikki, trauma came from the author’s own life experience made the entire reading experience so much more raw & emotional. Even though other parts of the book is fictional, I feel like I was reading part of her soul.
Every time Nikki faced difficutlties, I felt protective of her, almost as if I had formed a quiet friendship with her just by reading. As if her pain became mine to heal somehow. I can't help but feel so proud of the author for bravely putting her own story into words. It's inspiring.
The bond between Nikki & Dean wasn't build on convenience or romance alone. It was through trauma, pain, struggles. He understood & love her in ways she deserves to be understood & love. Their connection wasn't just romance, it's survival, healing & finally being seen.
This book is dark but deep, meaningful, heartbreaking yet beautiful. It’s about survival, healing & learning to love & be love despite the scars. I couldn’t stop reading once I started & I honestly can’t find a single flaw in it.
This book was an emotional whirlwind. Author KAY OSS shares that the story is rooted in her own journey of healing, with flashbacks drawn from her real experiences—and you can feel the weight of that on every page. I hesitate to say I enjoyed it, because how do you enjoy something that cuts so deep? Yet I couldn’t put it down, finishing all 282 pages in a single day.
The flashbacks are raw and gut-wrenching—no child should ever have to endure what’s described here. Still, the strength of the storytelling, the dialogue, and the characters kept me hooked. The dual POV and non-linear structure flowed effortlessly, revealing just enough at the right moments. The pacing was spot-on, and yes, the spice was spicy—and completely intoxicating. The range of emotions this book stirred was intense: anger, disgust, heartbreak, but also vulnerability, tenderness, comfort, exhilaration, and the fierce relief of revenge. We see the FMC haunted by her trauma in nightmares and panic attacks, caught in the brutal war between mind and body when survival instincts and desire pull her in opposite directions. And yet, through all of this, there’s a sense of resilience and growth.
While it is certainly a dark romance, it’s more than that. At its core, it’s a story about healing—about reclaiming your sense of worth and allowing yourself to believe you deserve love. Not just the comfort and safety of someone else’s arms, but the deeper, harder truth: learning to love yourself, scars and all. Broken but beautiful.
From the very first page, Don't Speak had me hooked. This story made me feel everything at once; heartbreak, pain, hope, anger, and the difficult beauty of healing. It moved me to tears more than once. It was raw, deeply emotional, and spicy in all the right ways. 🌶🔥
This book healed a part of me. It reminded me that even though the scars of past never fully vanish, healing and self love can bloom in the cracks where pain once lived.
In the meeting of two wounded hearts who understand each other's shadows, help you realize that damage does not mean defeat, and broken doesn't mean unworthy. Piece by piece, healing doesn't have to be lonely, and love doesn't demand perfection.
This story is a testament to survival, resilience, and the transformative healing power of love, and self love.
This book is heartbreakingly beautiful, unforgettable, and one I know i'll find myself thinking about it often.

Another debut killing the game! I am so excited to watch Kay grow as an author.
Before I go into this, please check the triggers. There are a lot of references to child SA and trauma with flashbacks and healing as an adult.
Nikki is running from her past. She was dealt with shitty cards, a shitty mum and a worse step dad. Settling down in a city with her cat Simba, she finally find a workplace she loves, a home to call her own and a ride or die best friend.
Until she starts receiving photos on her doorstep. At this time, Dean shows up in her life, and is more connected to her than she realises.
Overall, this was a great book. You can feel the emotion the author put into each and every page. You can tell this was healing piece and I felt honoured to read it.
It did get a little repetitive for me, but as a debut novel I am not mad about that being my only ‘technical’ note at all. Kay Oss will be one to follow for sure!
I enjoyed this book and the storyline very much. I applaud the author on her bravery and transparency of how and why this book was written. That in itself is def a reason to read this. The author delivered a very detailed book that tackled a very sad subject, while also keeping it interesting.
I thought the character development was done well and appreciated the chemistry between main characters and also with Amelia. I would love to know more about Amelia.
My only hmmm was that I though the ending was a bit rushed but nothing that would deter me from continuing or keep me from reading another book from this author.
If you’re looking for a read with a stalker MMC that is trying to do what’s right, dominate in some ways but also kind ——> knee towels 😂, this book is for you.
Dark undertones and spicy, def worth the read and I’m keeping Kay OSS on my ATR (Authors to Read) list.
Great job and thank you for sharing your creativity and healing with us. Ty for allowing me to be an ARC reader.
I received Don’t Speak by Kay Oss as an ARC read and this book had me HOOKED! It was totally gripping and I couldn’t get enough, this one releases on the 26th of September so make sure to put this on your TBR if you like it dark!
This dark romance focuses on Nikki and Dean and how their relationship develops and grows. I love the spice between them, it was seriously 🔥
Please make sure you check your triggers as this story has a darker side, Nikki was abused as a child by her step-dad and we learn about it though flashbacks, nightmares and panic attacks. So please make sure you can handle this before reading but this book does have a HEA!
What to expect:
🥀 Feminine rage/revenge 🥀 Age gap 🥀 Sexual assault (flashbacks) 🥀 Aftercare 🥀 Spicy scenes 🥀 Ice play 🥀 Breath play 🥀 A cat called Simba 😻

Okay so like did Dean totally do some unhinged and unconventional things to get his girl, yes pero like he was also very thoughtful and at least he’s dedicated and knows what he wants mmkay 🤣
Oh man this book put me through the ✨motions✨ and honestly it spoke to younger me, it’s like I got my revenge through Nikki’s revenge and it was very healing ❤️🩹 I wish I can give Nikki a hug because no one should go through what she did 💔
As always, your mental health comes first. Please read trigger warning list if you have any 🖤
Can I just say wow. Finding out that this is based on true events from the author has my heart going out to her. I'm not going to pretend I know what she is going thru but being able to read about it and knowing that this book helped her heal made me feel special (i now that not all victims want people to know). I will say the things that happened in this book some parts of them had me absolutely disgusted. But I pushed thru, and I am glad I did. The ending was amazing, and I am proud of our strong fighting FMC.
This book is a beautiful representation of what healing from trauma looks like. The author takes from past experiences and portrays the difficulties of moving on from traumas and procuring boundaries, while also finding it is possible to be loved despite the belief you can’t be. The characters are well written and you can feel every emotion they go through. Loved all the twists and turns the story took. And of course the spice is *chef’s kiss*. I cannot wait to see what else this author has to offer in the future.
What a debut for Kay Oss! This book ripped open wounds I hadn't thought about in a minute and then helped heal every single one. This book is a dream come true for women suffering from trauma stemming from SA. Reading about what the fmc, Nikki, goes through and then how she finds her justice and peace is so therapeutic. And the spice 🫠🫠🫠🫠. On a real note, this book has some pretty triggering content, so be sure to check the content warnings before diving in. It is dark, twisted, and only suitable for mature audiences. I can't wait to see what else Kay Oss has in store!
Well written and I loved that there were references to not only some of my favorite books but also one of my favorite movies.
Both darker and not as dark as I expecting. The worst parts are vague but no less impactful especially considering the flash backs are drawn from real life experiences.
Nikki is a strong woman who still has struggles with past trauma. Dean is someone who in a perfect world, everyone would have in their corner.
The ending was beyond satisfying with a HEA.
I received an early copy and this is my honest review.
This is the author’s debut novel and she has come out swinging. This is a story that is written from the author’s soul. My heart hurt for 7 year old Nikki who’s childhood and innocence was stolen from her. She is such a strong character even through everything g she went through. Dean has his own trauma that we learn about through his flashbacks. This creates suspense and had me on the edge of my seat.
I loved the shout out to Make Me and The Mercenary & The Mortician! Ronan and Buff definitely have my heart.
This was a heavy read and the fact that the flashbacks are based on true events broke my heart for the author. The FMC Nikki’s mom reminds me a lot of my own and that was a bit hard to read but I’m glad I did. The story was so good and I would have never guessed that this was a debut book for the author had I not known

I just finished the story about Dean and Nikki. This author is new to me. For the most part, the storyline was pretty good. The characters seemed to have good chemistry together. It did start off kind of slow to me, but once it took off. It took off. There are also a lot of spicy scenes between the main characters . Spice was spicing..🌶🌶🌶
This was an arc that I received and WOW! The emotions I felt reading this! It was so good! It was heartbreaking, beautifully written, and I couldn’t put it down! I loved Nikki and Dean. The spice was 🥵! All I have to say is fantastic job!
Wow...Five stars well-deserved! From the beginning, I was captivated by the storyline. I was drawn to Nikki's story, and while I did not go through what she did, I can relate in other ways. Unfortunately, many little girls suffer at the hands of those whom we are taught to put our trust in without question. The heartbreak from that kind of betrayal is hard to come back from. The author did an amazing job at conveying these emotions. Then there's Dean. He's everything I love in a MMC. Stalker. Protective. Dominant. His character is well thought out and the connection between him and Nikki was a great way to establish familiarity between the two, despite her not knowing who he really was. The way their connection unraveled was also well written. The ending was the absolute BEST. If you love dark romances coupled with an emotional storyline, this book is for you. This is easily one of the best ARC reads I've had the pleasure of indulging in this month.
Buckle up because this book is going to take you on an emotional ride! This book brought me to tears a few times and it should remind you all that being a little broken doesn’t make you unloveable. Your dark will find its own dark to match!
Nikki and Dean are the best thing since sliced bread! A perfect couple that just compliments each other so well!
The plots there, the pace is fast and the flow is on point. The spice is good and will have you blushing.
This book was very engaging from start to finish, but a bit of emotional rollercoaster.
I enjoyed reading about Nikki and Dean’s characters, and seeing their characters’ development. I think every one should have a best friend like Amelia, such an amazing character.
I enjoyed that the book was filled with messages/sayings that make stuck with me. “Maybe sometimes some of us have to suffer so that others never have to experience it.”
There were a few moments that had me scratching my head a little bit. but overall It was intense but a good read.
Thanks for the opportunity to ARC read. Congrats to Kay OSS on the debut book. Thank you so much for your vulnerability and bravery for share your story.
“I sense a darkness in him, and I think maybe his darkness might rival mine”
Synopsis: Dean has been stalking Nikki for years. Once her abuser escapes from prison, he steps out of the shadows to protect her. Nikki isn’t the only one with a trauma-filled past however, as Dean is hiding secrets of his own.
Thoughts: First off, I can’t even imagine the bravery it took for the author to be so open about her past experiences and writing it into a beautiful book like this. The dedication at the beginning immediately told me I had the right book. This story is so unique and heartbreaking it had my full attention every single page. I love the subtle Supernatural references, from the names of the bars, characters, and appearances (a redhaired Charlie), along with his love of his vehicle “baby”. The deepness being so well-written surprised me honestly, considering this is the author’s first book and you can’t even tell. This is definitely a highly-recommended book, and I’m so grateful the author allowed me to ARC this masterpiece of a story.

"Luckily, anyone who has ever tried to get near her has failed miserably, and if she didn’t have Cora here, I probably would have sabotaged this job for her years ago and set something else up."
Dont Speak is a Revenge Erotic Romance split in two POV between Nikki and Dean. Nikki is a bartender and a survivor. Nikki has spent most of her life dealing with the trauma and memories of the abuse from her step dad. As a child she was warned if you speak or tell anyone I will kill you and your mother. Of course as Nikki was only a child she couldnt help but keep silent until 7 years after her abuse started she finally speaks up. Her chance to be away from her past and her trauma is kept short when her mother pleads with her to lie. Needless to say this lingers with Nikki and her reaction and affection towards her mother starts to fade.
Dean is a man set on revenge. His job is to take care of the men that abuse young girls and to punish them, even kill them. Nikki isnt aware that Dean has been obsessed with Nikki since he first saw her and wanted nothing more than to protect her. Nikki has no idea of the connection both of them share. As Dean becomes a part of Nikki's world and their equal obsession grows the past begins to crash around them.
It is up to Nikki to decide where to go from there and the choices to be made as she is confronted with her past in a way she never expected. As for Dean he is determined to protect his little lioness no matter the cost.
I received this ARC direct from the author. As a debut author I cannot recommend Don't Speak enough. This is my unbiased review. I beg of you to please read the trigger warnings. While this is a story that helped the writer heal through her own scars and can help others achieve the same other readers may be triggered.
Regardless if you carry on I found this debut and revenge dark romance to be an incredible read. Nikki and Dean are well fleshed out and their bond is pulse racing and powerful. Don't Speak releases on Sept 26th 2025. Make sure to check it out. Until next time, Happy Reading!
Tragic. Romantic. Absolutely heart-wrenching. This book didn’t just tug at my heartstrings it ripped them apart and scattered the pieces. From page one, I was completely enthralled. I devoured this story like a cold glass of water on a scorching summer day ravenous for more. I couldn’t put it down. I didn’t even stop to eat. That’s how deep I fell into this book.
Nikki’s journey is raw, powerful, and deeply emotional. Her story is one of reclaiming power, rediscovering self-worth and self-love, and rising from the ashes of trauma. It's about letting go of the past, finding the strength to move forward, and learning to trust and love again, even when the world has given you every reason not to. Her pain is palpable. Her resilience is inspiring.
Dean? He’s a keeper. The way he protects her, even when she doesn’t know it, is swoon-worthy. He lives for her. He’d die for her. He’d kill for her. And that kind of devotion bleeds through every word. The chemistry between Nikki and Dean is electric, full of sexual tension that builds until it crackles off the page.
The trauma both Nikki and Dean carry is heartbreaking, and the way their stories intertwine is written with such depth and empathy. It’s dark, it’s intense, and it will absolutely live in your head and heart long after the last page.
✨ Please check trigger warnings before reading—this is a dark stalker romance that touches on real, painful topics, including nightmares and trauma that feel all too real.
The author did a phenomenal job with the pacing and flow, keeping me hooked with every twist. The emotion runs deep and the heartbreak. Oh My!
If you want something that’ll break you, heal you, and stay with you—this is it. Go read it. You won’t regret it.
I really enjoyed this dark romance debut by Kay Oss. The story is raw and unflinching, and I can imagine it wasn’t an easy one to write, yet I’m so glad you chose to tell it. The prose flows smoothly, making it both engaging and accessible.
What stood out most to me was Nikki’s complicated relationship with her mother. As someone who is also estranged from family, I found myself deeply connecting to her inner thoughts and struggles. That authenticity made her perspective resonate with me on a personal level, adding even more weight to the story.

I took a couple of days to process this one because it hit me in ways that I never expected. With that being said, please please read the trigger warnings before jumping into a book. I typically don’t because not much triggers me. I am able to disassociate real life from the fictional world that is books. BUT this one broke my soul in half and healed me all in one swoop and I loved every bit of it. With that being said I will start off by saying that this story was all too relatable with my own real life experience with SA from a family member. It changes something in you that you feel you will never come back from. Seeing someone else’s story and how they overcame can be therapeutic for some so I love that Kay Oss decided to go this route with this book. Nikki was taken advantage of as a child by her step father and was told that her mother would be hurt if she told anyone. Like any young girl this scared her until she could no longer take it anymore. This is when her world truly changed. She finds the courage and strength and the step dad eventually goes to prison. But, not without hurting others first and the turning point for him is when his victim takes her own life. Dean is the victim’s brother and when he sees Nikki in court he vows to protect her from future harm but at what cost? When the step dad escapes from prison he knows he has to act fast so he gets a job at the bar where she works and they are soon falling in love. Oh but it does not end there, no no no. Without giving too much away I will say that their time together is short lived and truths come to light. Kay Oss’s ability to write this in such a way that isn’t idolizing the act of SA but giving understanding to the vitcims stories is top tier
**Check Trigger Warnings** I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading this. But I didn’t expect to read it in one evening. I couldn’t put it down. In the beginning though, my heart SUNK while reading the authors note. (Please do not skip over it).
Sometimes after reading a book I’m absolutely speechless. I’m feeling every emotion. Hatred, anger, sadness, happiness. This is one of those times. Reading Nikki’s flashbacks and knowing what’s actually in those pages is truly shattering. I know there are strong people in this world, but those that endure horrific traumas—they are the strongest—and you can’t tell me any different.
Both characters dealt with serious trauma. Dean dealt with it as a young man and instead of running away from it, he chose to make permanent solutions. Those that included certain tools. It’s justified if you ask me. Those monsters deserved it. But because of his trauma, it brought him to Nikki. Two souls that both needed revenge and closure. Two souls that needed healing.
Nikki and Dean dealt with so much pain—they both deserved to be happy. They deserved to find safety. And they found it with each other. They may have come together in an unconventional way, but sometimes that’s just how it happens.
This book gives you all the emotions but there’s reasoning behind it. It shows that even in the darkest of times, there is light at the end of the tunnel. And that tunnel leads Home. Home may have a different meaning for everyone but in this case it’s the feeling of safety and love.
This was a phenomenal read with difficult topics, finding your true self, closure and healing. Highly recommend picking this one up. •••••••••• I received this book as an ARC from the author and I am grateful for being apart of her team. She is a true warrior in sharing her story with us. 💜
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book—I intentionally avoided reading any details beforehand. And it exceeded my expectations. What a debut! It was such an emotional journey, especially with the author’s personal touches woven into it. They set the tone for the entire book, and perhaps it’s an autosuggestion, but it makes the story feel all the more real, if that makes sense.
This story grabs your heart and keeps you in a chokehold until the very end. It’s tragic yet romantic, blending healing, reclaiming power, and spiciness that can make you blush—all in perfect balance.
Nikki is a survivor, a strong-headed woman who keeps her feet firmly on the ground. In a sense, she’s running from her past, constantly looking over her shoulder—until she finds a place she can finally call home, with friends who love her without judgment. And then… she meets Dean.
Dean is, I think, who many of us dream about—minus his extracurricular activities. He embodies the fantasy of someone who loves us deeply and unconditionally. Someone devoted, who will do anything to protect us. Someone who can chase the nightmares away.
You’ll never get bored with this book. Nothing feels dull; it keeps you on your toes. The pace is fast, with no scene or chapter dragged out too long or cut too short. Everything has its time, place, and order. With its short chapters, it flows so smoothly—I was hooked and entranced until the very end. And oh my… that ending!!!
I truly enjoyed it. This is one of the best books I’ve read this year. And let’s not forget—this is a debut! I would be proud to write something this strong for a first release. I can’t wait to read more from Kay Oss!
I just finished Don't Speak, and I am blown away. This book is a whirlwind of thrills, spice, and jaw-dropping twists that kept me hooked from start to finish. There's never a dull moment. Every chapter delivers something unexpected, pulling you deeper into the story until you realize it's 2 a.m. and you still can't put it down.
Let's talk about the chemistry, because wow. This book is spicy, and then some. There are moments that will have you fanning yourself... and then immediately questioning your sanity. The tension between the leads is delicious, flirty, and dangerously addictive. It's a game of cat and mouse, and I was here for every second of it.
What truly stood out, though, was the strength of the main character. While she might be labeled a "victim," she is anything but. She's a survivor; fierce, independent, and mentally strong. I love a leading lady who knows her worth and isn't afraid to fight for herself. Her strength doesn't come from being saved, it comes from within.
Her male counterpart? Equally powerful. Both physically and emotionally. He's layered, intense, and the kind of presence that commands every scene he's in. Their dynamic is a push-and-pull of trust, power, and attraction that keeps you emotionally invested and guessing at every turn.
If you're looking for a story packed with intensity, steam, suspense, and heart, Don't Speak delivers on all fronts. It's not just a romance it's a survivor's story with grit, passion, and unforgettable twists. I couldn't stop reading and honestly, I didn't want to.
