The story is that of a little boy losing his beloved little fox while playing in a park. While all family members immediately go out and look, they unfortuantely can't find Little Fox. Luckily, a real fox comes to visit the boy at night and lends a helping paw.
A really adorable story about the emotional connections we form, magical realism, love and friendship - but also determination.
Just look at the wonderful full-page illustrations bringing the story to life on another level:
The quality of this hardcover pleasently surprised me, too. Many picture books are done really well, but this went the extra mile so to speak.
I'm a lover of all animals but foxes in particular so this immediately caught my attention and I am so glad it's now part of my little library. Heartwarmingly perfect and perfectly heartwarming.
Little Fox is lost, somewhere in the park. The family searches everywhere, but the beloved teddy remains hidden. Then, one winter’s night, a breathtaking fox appears at the boy's window. Drawn to her beauty, he follows her into the night. Together, they embark on a magical journey through the city, weaving past snow-dusted meadows and along icy rivers that glisten in the moonlight. As the boy follows the fox, he begins to realize she’s leading him somewhere special—and that she needs his help. Can this enchanting fox help him find his cherished Little Fox?
From bestselling author Rob Biddulph comes a heartwarming tale of a boy, his teddy, and a wondrous winter adventure. This is an incredibly sweet rhyming book that takes little readers on an adventure filled with courage and hope. The illustrations are absolutely divine, I mean seriously beautiful, and the cover itself is gorgeous with its sparkly details. Just an all round incredibly sweet read; would definitely recommend you get this one into the hands of the children in your life.
This is so beautiful. It is not a dream. It totally happened because you can see little fox lost at the beginning. Don't forget to check the title page for extra critters to find throughout the book. (Finding the frog was really hard!)
I felt a whimsy homage to The Snowman through the flying scene, which was delightfu, but regardless, this was a beautiful story about a little boy searching for his lost fox toy, and a mother fox trying to save her kit.
It shows that beautiful magic of childhood and the special bond children and animals can have. On the topic, if you've never watch The Fox and The Child please do. One of my all time favorites and this book reminded me of that movie, too.
Anyway this book brought happy tears to my eyes. I loved it. It was sweet and wholesome. I wholeheartedly recommend!
I set my eyes on this book a little before Christmas 2024, then it appeared on my public library shelves as a parting gift from 2024. Going back and reflecting on this book, I read without my child by my side, before sharing it with them, I can say with full confidence that the prose in this book was refreshing for a children’s book, the story and the characters charming, the artwork exquisite and the themes, well-blended into the story and open to multiple meanings and themes ranging from love, care, climate crisis, good deeds, coincidences/games life plays, interplay between fantasy and reality, connection with nature and perhaps a few more. Yet, mind you, these are not done overtly and the reading is suitable for pint-sized humans’ interests and enjoyment. Older children might come to their own conclusions. Overall, amazing experience. While the story arc was complete, I wouldn’t have minded reading similarly executed and presented stories had this been part of a larger book.
It had a magical realistic touch as well.
Thank you, writer, illustrator and all those who contributed in the making of this beautiful book.
4.5* What a gorgeous little picture book! The artwork is stunning and very atmospheric. There's loads to look at on each page, and there's also another character who's lost something, who kids can spot.
It is a fantastical story with a kid flying and going on a long journey in the middle of the night without his parents (which I'm never a fan of). But what happens is lovely. And there's a lovely ending, too. The story is done in rhyme, which most of the time works and definitely adds to the lovely feel.
This is a nighttime dream story where the young child has actually misplaced her small stuffed fox and dreaming she helps a Mother Fox rescue her young one. On the title page is a list of ten items for the child to find in the illustrations and they are small animals that are not easily found Since this is a nighttime story the blues and blacks of the illustrations are in dark hues.
Nice story, nice rhymes. Very imagination-building. Super high vocabulary so would use it in a storytime with lots of kids 4+ only. Could be read at home with 3+.
"I Follow the Fox" by Rob Biddulph is a beautiful picture book that both children and adults will be able to appreciate. The art is amazing, and the story is heartwarming!
