Alexandrina Krusharska is a medical doctor by degree but a writer at heart, having created stories since childhood. However, it wasn't until she was working as a physician that she wrote her first novel, Hospital for Immortal Creatures, which became an instant success in Bulgaria. Since then, she has pursued her passion as a full-time author, determined to bring as many stories to life as possible.
She lives in Burgas, Bulgaria, with her husband, a mischievous little manticore, and a lovable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
I loved Carmen and Volcan and their spicy little story. It is a novella so it’s short but it isn’t rushed like some novellas can be. There is a lot of spice but there isn’t so much that it takes away from the story.
I almost do wish that the story was longer so we could see more of them because I loved them so much but I do like the story we got.
Carmen is a nice little urban fantasy, insta-love novella.
For such a short read the plot was well developed and the pacing was consistent and didn't feel rushed. The characters felt distinct and the heat between them felt authentic.
I do wish the story was longer, it did feel like there were a number of opportunities left hanging. I did wonder if this was a precursor to a series, but it doesn't seem like Carmen and Volcan are major characters in the series Hospital for Immortal Creatures.
This was my first book by Alexandria Krusharska, and I'm excited to check out more of her work.
Thanks to Alexandrina Krusharska and BookSirens for the ARC.

Carmen knows she's living a stereotype - as a forensic examiner who also has a fascination (and a fashion sense) tending towards the macabre her world revolves around the organization and morbid sterility of her work. When a mysterious stranger strolls into her life while she's elbows-deep in her work, nothing will be the same. Volcan has spent over a century working from the shadows in the world of immortals, using his magic, wits, and his family's gifts to keep the magical from mixing with the mundane. When a lead on the lost key to his family's ancient book of spells - which could be the clue to saving his uncle and finding his sister - brings him to the pretty medical examiner's autopsy table, he's immediately drawn to the one person who's been able to see through his tricks - and his darkness. Falling fast and hard for each other, Carmen and Volcan must decide if time unbound can sooth the pan of a love that risks everything.
I love the world of the Hospital for Immortal Creatures, so it was nice to have something to snack on while waiting for the third novel to be translated. I'm not usually into insta-love and feel like there's never enough time to tell a fully-fleshed story with a novella, but this book did a surprisingly good job of telling a quick story, capturing the feelings well for what I imagine it would feel like to all in love in less than 24 hours, and didn't overstay its welcome. I would love to see Carmen return in future volumes, and I'm sure the mystery sub-plot will make an appearance later in the series!
She's always felt like there is more to the world than what we see. When Volkan comes into her life, she realises she might just be right. With blue eyes and her signature black outfits, she fits her job role as a forensic doctor. Volkan is looking for the key to their family grimoire. It ends up inside the guy Carmen is performing an autopsy on. The girl he hypnotised two years earlier. Coincidence or fate?
The book Carmen by Alexandrina Krusharska is a fantasy romance book about witches. It is not only entertaining but also humorous. The characters were well portrayed. Carmen happens to be bold in everything, so it is not shocking that she is a forensic doctor. Volkan is the good guy. He even feels guilty for doing what he thinks is necessary. The book is centred around love and magic. There is no denying the attraction between the two. The book is also fast-paced.
At the end it felt hurried; the option Carmen was presented with, she took it without consideration. I feel in real life, if one were to be given an option like that, one would need time to think about it, considering everyone around you.
I would recommend this book to lovers of fantasy romance, being that it’s about a witch. It contains a bit of sexual scenes. It was a good and fast read.

The book "Carmen" by Alexandrina Krusharska is a captivating and immersive paranormal romance novella that draws the reader into a hidden world of magic, immortality, and forbidden love.
The story centres around the titular character Carmen, a forensic examiner with a dark fascination for the macabre. Her world is turned upside down when the enigmatic and intense Volcan enters her life, a man shrouded in mystery and possessing powers that seem to defy all logic and reason. As Carmen is swept up into Volcan's secret world, she finds herself irresistibly drawn to him, despite the danger and taboo nature of their growing attraction.
Krusharska does a masterful job in her vivid descriptions and evocative language, painting a spellbinding picture of this supernatural realm lurking just beneath the surface of our own. The characters are richly developed and complex, feeling like fully realized individuals even within the concise framework of this novella-length tale. Perhaps most impressive is the substantial and engrossing backstory the author is able to convey without the plot feeling rushed or the pacing uneven.
"Carmen" is a stellar example of effective and impactful short-form paranormal fiction, with its magnetic characters and beguiling storyline sure to enchant any reader who craves a transportive escape into a world of magic, mystery and star-crossed love.
For all the readers who are already expecting the sequels of "Hospital for Immortal Creatures", the novella "Carmen" is a nice little surprise. In Bulgaria, it was published as part of a collection of erotic fantasy stories, and for me, it remains the most exciting of all. There are several reasons for this. First, I had the chance to immerse myself once again in the enchanting fantasy world that Alexandrina Krusharska has managed to create - a world I adore, and to get to know more of her characters. Second, the author’s approach in this novella is refreshingly different from her previous works, which allowed me to see another side of her talent. "Carmen" features significantly more romance, spicy scenes, and humor, which often made me laugh or smile. Third, the story is told from a first-person perspective, and I was able to feel the characters much closer, even though their story unfolded in 112 pages. Characters that were really worth getting to know! Carmen - human, slightly introverted, in love with her eerie profession, welcoming the unknown and devoted to her dark side, was a unique mystery to me. On the other hand, Volkan, even a witcher, was her complete opposite. Completely different from the author's other male characters too. Positive, kind, faithful to his duty to his family, but not blinded by his cause. A man who does not deny his passions and gives himself to them with his whole being and body. He was able to see the rare opportunity to meet the perfect woman for himself and prove the maxim that "Love can conquer all"!
Carmen by Alexandrina Krusharska is a captivating dive into a world where darkness and desire intertwine in the most seductive way. From the very first page, I was hooked by the intense chemistry between Carmen and Volcan. Carmen, a forensic examiner with a fascination for the macabre, is grounded in reality—until Volcan storms into her life and shatters everything she thought she knew.
The worldbuilding in this novella is rich and immersive, blending magic, ancient curses, and a secret world of immortals with ease. The bewitched key adds an intriguing layer of mystery, tying Carmen and Volcan’s fates to a tragic love story from the past. The stakes are high, and the emotional intensity kept me flipping the pages, desperate to see how their story would unfold.
If you’re a fan of forbidden love, alpha males, and fast-paced fantasy romance with a touch of the macabre, Carmen will leave you breathless and craving more. This spellbinding novella is a must-read for lovers of dark, magical tales where love defies time and fate.
Carmen is an irresistible journey back into the world of the Hospital for Immortal Creatures.
The MFC of the books title Carmen is a Forensic examiner and a woman who loves her work.
While autopsying a deceased man when alone one night at work she finds a strange key inside him and shortly after has no memory of doing so or performing the autopsy.
MMC Volcan is an ayradjakli for the tribunal and has the power to hypnotize, and is searching for the key, a lost key to his family’s grimoire which his dying uncle needs.
Loved the undeniable romance that developed between Carmen and Volcan a romance forbidden by the Tribunal between humans and immortals.
This was a wonderful novella filled with excellent writing, world building, adventure, intrigue, magic, danger, emotion, and family dynamics, which made for a very entertaining read.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to have read this as an ARC, through BookSirens I have not read any of the books from the Hospital for Immortal Creatures series but this novella, even though belonging to the same universe, it's a story of it's own. I really enjoyed it, it's a nice love story, I wasn't expecting it to be so sexual but I don't think it took anything away from the book or the story. I liked the fact that the main character was different from the usual romance characters and that the fantasy characters were different from the current trends among the genre. Although the ending was very predictable, I enjoyed the story, read it all in just a few hours and definitely recommend if you like fantasy romances.
What a sweet tale this was! This was the story of a human woman Carmen and the immortal Witcher, Volcan, and they fall head over heels for each other despite their differences and challenges. The magical storyline kept me fully engaged throughout. The spicy scenes were perfection and now I need a chat with my man about why he isn’t casting a beautiful illusion for me during foreplay 😅 The writing was descriptive enough to easily give me all the visuals of the world and the magical illusions in this urban fantasy setting. This was a Novella that made me want more! I loved Carmen and Vulcan’s story. Thankfully there are other books to read from the universe so I’m keen to check them out!

Alexandrina Krusharska builds a very interesting world and Carmen and Volkan's story has me wanting more. This is my first read from this author and I am so happy it is part of a bigger world where I can get to read more and learn more about the Hospital for Immortal Creatures.
The story follows a human woman Carmen and the immortal Witcher, Volkan, and they fall head over heels for each other despite their differences and challenges. The magical storyline had me hooked from the first chapter and had me wanting to learn more about this world that the author created. The spice level was just right, making the chemistry feel super real and it did not take from the story at all, as in we had enought of both 🤩
I really liked the storyline. I also really liked the characters. The only thing I didn't enjoy was that the story was so short (and the nickname the main female character got, it started annoying me after a while). The author spent too little time writing about the actual plot. I need to know more about this universe. About what happens next. About what happened in the past. I'd give 5 stars if it was maybe 100 pages longer, the plot was a bit more developed and I got to see more of the world and its dynamics. I still recommend reading it, because it was pretty good.
This was such a great love story packed into a little novella. I really enjoyed the characters and storyline. The spice was just right. The pacing was perfect and without reading her other books that take place in same world I was able to understand the world and magic system easily. I highly recommend for anyone who enjoys paranormal fantasy and just wants something short and sweet.

Brilliant! It's a very interesting short urban fantasy story with a tastefully added erotic element - I definitely recommend it to the fans of this genre. The story takes place in the universe of the Hospital for Immortal Creatures but it's not directly connected to the events in the other books so you can read it separately. I love these new characters though and I would love to meet them in the Hospital ;-)
I enjoyed returning to this world and meeting Carmen who runs into Volcan and learns all is not what it seems. Their interactions are fun and entertaining. And a few surprises kept things interesting. Really had to see if Volcan would find the key and save his Uncle. And could these two really ignore each other and go their different ways at the end. Enjoyed the story, characters and the feel of a touch of mystery and suspense to it all.
This is a novella in the Hospital for Immortal Creatures universe, but I think it can be read as a standalone. It is a fast read and I finished it in one go.
As with the other books in the series, I loved the writing style and it was excellently translated. The story was a nice little surprise until I can read the next installment in the series.

This novella was my first by this author. It was fast paced and quick to pull me in. I'll definitely be checking out the other books.
Carmen was a fun slightly morbid character, and Volcan piqued my interest right away. I liked their chemistry and the ups and downs they went through in such a short time. I honestly would have loved a full book about them.

This was an interesting story with a small mystery and some steam. It's a side story to the main series set in the same universe so it can be read as a standalone. I wish we got more details of the events that were briefly mentioned in the last chapter, and there is a sort of an open ending at the end so I hope that it will continue further in another series or book.

From the same author of Hospital for Immortal Creatures comes a novella with the same Gothic feel.
The characters are likable and the story develops well. Unlike some novellas this one doesn't seem like it is being rushed or in a hurry to finish - the story unfolds at a nice pace and winds up with ease.
A perfect weekend read. And perfect for fans of Hospital for Immortal Creatures.
Well this was enjoyable but very very odd. I had to push to read the beginning it wandered a bit but once the story line began to unfold it was easier to follow and keep up. Carmen and Volcan were 2 halves of a whole. I personally think she was on her way to immortality before she got the key

It was a quick read but it certainly wasn’t lacking in story or character. The tale itself was well written. The strength of the emotions between Carmen and Volcan was palpable. The sex scenes were hot. I want to read Melinda’s story now too. I would definitely love more stories about these two.
