GOT A PROBLEM? NOVA CAN HELP - FOR A PRICE! With the Xandarian Worldmind, the sentient repository of an entire extinct people's culture and history, relying on regular (and expensive) energy infusions, Richard Rider is for hire. A deep-space drifter weighed down with the truth of the terrible lie that the new Galactic Union was built upon, Nova is a corps of one. But how long can he keep his hands clean handling dirty money?
love the lighter tone of this #1...at least compared to most of IMPERIAL. Richard Ryder is what's left if the Nova Corps but he's willing to put himself out there...and help people for a price.
I never really read any of the cosmic stuff before but after Imperial I was all in. This was very easy to follow. MacKay sets up the character and world really well. The humor was decent and I enjoyed the art for the most part. This did its job and got me excited for more.
This isn't my first time reading a Richard Ryder book with the premise that he is the last Nova. I'm just grateful that it is Richard Ryder, and I don't have to deal with that idiot in the blue helmet.
Just an excuse to showcase the "cosmic" characters. Pip didn't even display any of his teleportation powers, which we were given to understand from Peter David's X-Factor, more than a decade ago, that Pip had internalized. So, there was a "funny" scene where Pip was trying to call Richard, when he could have just teleported in front of him.
I know nothing of these characters or storylines, but the story is not bad. I wish I knew what was going on. That is on me. The story is good and so is the art. I am interested in reading more about Nova.
I haven’t read Nova in years, and the plot device about needing credits to keep the Worldmind alive will get old soon, but it’s great to see Richard back in action again. Just don’t pass the hat.
As a fan of Richie from the Annihilation stories onwards, this was a lot of fun and I think a fresh take. I'm definitely curious about where this is going to go.
