I am really enjoying the pacing of this one. The time spent with the characters and their dialogue with one another makes this feel real. MJ and Peter share a great heart to heart. These interactions are carrying this story through without the need of a marque villain.
Another great little chapter that proves JMS hasn’t lost his touch
This is just fantastic, it’s everything I want out of a Spider-Man story: great action, wonderful art, but most importantly of all, a Peter Parker that feels like an actual character with his own distinct troubles and thoughts instead of being a cardboard cutout designed to sell toys.
You can tell JMS is giving it his all to make feel Peter feel like an actual person here, there’s a scene between him and MJ that is not only perfect but it reads as a cry from JMS BEGGING Marvel to stop clinging to outdated ideas and just get rid of the One More Day status quo once and for all, and I love it. It’s so good to just see Peter and MJ be treated like actual characters after so long and talk and act like people would instead of corporate puppets made to be put in lunch boxes like what editorial sees them as.
My only major complaint here is that it falls into the same trappings his original run fell into in trying to make Spidey more tied to the mystical side of the Marvel universe and the new characters he introduces here remind me way too much of Ezekiel and the Spider Totem thing that I’m not such a big fan of; also the villains are very underdeveloped so far, we don’t really have much motivation or backstory for the gargoyle lady or the guy who hired her.
But overall, just a marvelous little alternative to whatever crap is going on over at the mainline book at this point.
This issue of Spider-Man Torn was an enjoyable reading experience. Great artwork and storyline. A race to find the truth behind the Proteus Maleficuram, and a showdown between Spider-Man and Evangeline.
This story is really good. Self-contained story that keeps things simple. I like that. Its not too big. Sometimes a good old-fashioned Spider-Man story is all you need.
How tf does Spider-Man put on his costume so fast, like he did it mid fight lol. Pretty fun issue tho, I like what they’re doing with that german nitroglycerin book or whatever it’s called lol.
