Marina Meier

Marina Meier is the author of Then I Choose a Horrible End, a psychological thriller that dives deep into fear and blurred reality. A story where nothing feels safe — not even for the author. Originally from Ukraine, Marina now lives abroad and writes across languages and borders.

She completed The Magic of Editing and Editorial Magic, two intensive writing and editing programs focused on structure and character development — and later returned as a mentor, offering editorial feedback to writers working in three languages.

Marina believes Stephen King is responsible for at least half of her fears — and still considers him one of her greatest inspirations. She writes to understand fear. To show how it shapes our minds, words, and actions. Almost like her protagonist, she lives with it — not as intensely, but closely enough to understand it. She finds it easier to write about than to speak aloud about it. This novel is her way of showing how isolating fear can feel, and how vital support is when it begins to take over.

Marina Meier’s debut novel, Then I Choose a Horrible End, is a sharp examination of fear itself—and creates an environment so tense and anxious, the reader can’t get away. Alicia, the protagonist of Then I Choose a Horrible End, is the best kind of narrator—strong, capable, and descending, slowly, into madness.

Meier does an excellent job of bringing the reader right into Alicia’s world: a terrifying reality where a rustling bush might be a bush…or might be hiding your worst nightmare. No place is safe. The reader won’t be, either.

Marina Meier's Then I Choose a Horrible End is a profoundly unsettling and expertly crafted psychological thriller that deserves every one of its five stars. This novel is a taut, relentless exploration of fear, paranoia, and the terrifying possibility that one's deepest anxieties might, in fact, be justified. Meier doesn't just write a thriller; she meticulously dissects the human psyche under duress, leaving the reader breathless and questioning reality long after the final page.

The narrative centers on Alicia Brooks, a seemingly successful professional in Chicago, whose polished exterior masks a relentless internal battle with anxiety. From the mundane a suspicious co-worker, a stranger's fleeting glance to the deeply personal, Alicia's world is a minefield of potential threats. Meier masterfully grounds this internal struggle, making it palpable and deeply sympathetic. We are given full access to Alicia's spiraling thoughts, which are often frustratingly irrational, yet undeniably relatable in their intensity.

The story takes a terrifying turn when a masked figure invades Alicia's home, forcing her into a desperate escape. This pivotal event shatters the fragile boundary between her long-standing fears and a very real, immediate danger. What follows is a brilliant dance on the edge of paranoia and truth. As "The Silent Walker" begins to haunt Alicia's waking hours, the reader is plunged into her desperate quest for answers, constantly asking: Is this a serial killer, a stranger seeking revenge, or something far more sinister, perhaps even a manifestation of her own unraveling mind?

Meier's greatest strength lies in her ability to sustain an almost unbearable level of suspense. The pacing is impeccable, building tension layer by excruciating layer, propelled by Alicia’s raw vulnerability and growing conviction. Each ambiguous clue, every unanswered question, deepens the sense of dread, forcing the reader into Alicia's shoes, where doubt becomes a constant companion. The prose is sharp and evocative, drawing you into Alicia's claustrophobic world without ever feeling overwrought. It’s a testament to Meier’s skill that even in moments of perceived safety, an undercurrent of unease persists, echoing Alicia's own trapped state of mind.

While the relentless intensity and the blurry line between reality and delusion demand the reader's full immersion, it is precisely this commitment that makes Then I Choose a Horrible End such a rewarding and impactful read. The constant questioning of Alicia's sanity and the external threats keeps the narrative dynamic and truly unpredictable. The novel doesn't offer easy answers, instead opting for a chilling, thought-provoking conclusion that leaves a lasting impression.

For anyone who appreciates a psychological thriller that delves deep into character, maintains a vice-like grip on its audience, and masterfully explores the chilling intersection of fear and reality, Then I Choose a Horrible End is an absolute must-read. It’s a powerful testament to Marina Meier’s talent and a standout in the genre.

Ok I had to sit on this one for a day before reviewing because my knee-jerk reaction to “pondering after the fact” book digestion was real!

The author has captured the utter frustrations and anxiety that comes with irrational fears! That absolutely morph into something else entirely when faced with real life danger!

I don’t want to do spoilers but the dichotomy of “safe space vs dangerous space” , “where is home?”, the mental health surrounding feeling performative (whether at work or at home) all comes together to create a very real sense of overwhelming fear and anxiety with Alicia.

This ending is left open ended to allow for reader interpretation which I think has been cleverly done to allow for how we all experience things differently and therefore the outcome is different depending on your perspective.

I have given this a solid four out of five waffles as it is a real deep dive into the psyche and will definitely leave you questioning everything

Marina Meier’s psychological thriller grips the reader from the very first pages. Marina knows how to sustain suspense in subtle, unexpected ways: the events unfold within Alicia’s psyche, and until the very end the reader wavers between reality and her perception of it.

The author has a rare gift for creating characters. Jordy is a figure who stays with you: a wounded savior, complex and contradictory, with depth and raw vulnerability. These are the kind of characters you don’t just read about - you keep thinking about them long after.

It is also important to note how professionally Marina works with the genre. Her prose contains everything a strong psychological thriller requires: rhythm, tension, cinematic quality, scenes that are easy to imagine on screen. At the same time, the book never reduces itself to “genre tricks”: behind the action lies real emotional substance, attention to detail, inner conflicts, and human fragility.

I am confident that the release of this book will be an event for readers who seek in literature both thrills and psychological depth.

Looking for a chilling psychological thriller perfect just in time for this year’s spooky season? Then do I have just the book for you!

Marina Meier takes the reader on a wild, terrifying psychological ride in her latest book, Then I Choose a Horrible End. Concentrating on how our fears take control of us and create scenarios that can make you question whether your fears are true or indeed just all in your head. While playing on several familiar tropes and deeply heavy and disturbing subject matter, we follow Alicia Brooks as she tries to differentiate reality from trauma induced nightmares.

A truly gripping, chilling thriller that was difficult to put down and made me feel like I needed to sleep with my lights on, somewhat questioning if the rustling in the woods outside my cabin was all in my mind or something sinister waiting and preying on me until morning light.

The official release date of this novel is October 14th 2025 and I hope other fellow thriller readers will give this book a read and enjoy it as much as I have reading it! I can't wait to see what other works Marina has in store in the near future!!

~Book review~
Then I Choose A Horrible End by @marina

This is a highly unique and unusual story. A debut novel which is sharp, well polished, with crisp detail. Thank you Marina I found it a very deep and fascinating book.

Marina has a distinctive way with words. The description technique allows you to become completely absorbed by the story. Everything was intricately described, making the atmosphere vivid in my imagination. The American setting really came to life and complemented the mood of the plot.

The story follows a third-person narrative across a linear timeline, predominantly focusing on the protagonist Alicia. Alicia's personality is compelling and captured in different lights. Although she is confident and determined, her crippling anxiety and fear manage to shape who she is at the core. With her vulnerabilities displayed, it becomes authentic and piteous. The other characters were just as interesting, but I was really drawn to Alicia.

This book is psychologically deep and dives into the human mind. As the slow-burn mystery unfolds, you can feel the squeeze of tension and unease. The author divulges into the mental health strains of anxiety and paranoia. It perfectly unveils the impact this has upon someone's life, and if you've been through this yourself, you understans how crippling this internal fear is.

There is an open ending to this story in which the reader can interpret for themselves. For me, it did leave me in wonder, a slight cliffhanger style, but perhaps bittersweet with hope that Alicia has been able to move forward. Horror may have caught up with her, but perhaps it wasn't such a horrible end.

I did take something important from this story, though, as I recognised how alone and unheard Alicia felt during her struggles. No one deserves to feel that way; it takes strength to reach out and confide in someone.

This type of story doesn't need to be action-packed to take effect; it's haunting alone with the sensitive topics it plunges into. Quite out of the ordinary for me, but overall an enjoyable amd satisfying reading journey.

Then I Choose A Horrible End is a psychological thriller, in which the events come off the page in a striking and realistic manner, and the story itself will leave you unsettled and mulling over everything, John Marrs or Stephen King style.

I think the story is enhanced by going in blind so I won’t give a synopsis. However, it does cover some content that may be triggering- therefore I’d check the content/trigger warnings if that’s something you think you should do.

This was such a well developed and tense read. I think it would be great for a buddy or bookclub read because there is so much to discuss, and the conclusion is open ended so there’s the potential for a variety of different takes.

A big thank you to @marina for gifting me a copy of this book in return for my honest thoughts!

Received as a review copy from Booksirens, this is an honest review.

Then I Choose A Horrible End is a hauntingly engrossing thrill ride that beautifully engages the reader as the story unfolds around Alicia Brooks; as her lavish lifestyle that she and boyfriend Jake Sylvan share... where nothing terrible happens. It only takes one experience for Alicia's world to crumble around her, leaving her deeply desperate for safety; for the police to believe her and find the bastard that caused so much chaos. Realistically written that explores the emotional hell this trauma brings from not only Alicia's viewpoint but also Jake's that bears the burden of handling the care that comes with a person suffering the echoes of trauma that seems to go on forever.

Highly recommended.

I was gifted this ARC copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book and got through it quite quickly. Although it covers dark subjects, it is written really well.

Marina has done a great job of writing something so gripping and addictive from the first page. I really did question everything during Alicia's "attacks", they are written well and I really understood how vulnerable she felt.

The ending felt a bit incomplete for me but I suppose it is that way so people can interpret it themselves. I gave this read a solid 4/5 and would it recommend other thriller lovers.

Thank you, Marina, for the opportunity to ARC review for you x

Thank you to the author for an ARC. This comes out on the 14th of October.

This is a really good thriller. Marina paints a vivid picture and really sets out a haunting atmosphere. The characters are well put together too and I always appreciate descriptions of nightmares / how trauma lingers.

I think a lot of thriller fans would enjoy this one. Although it plays with some familiar tropes, the author makes it entirely her own and I finished it quite quick because of that unique style 😊

Alicia Brookes seems to have it all — a successful career in Chicago, a wealthy, charming boyfriend, and a life most people would envy. But beneath the surface, she’s struggling. Mentally, emotionally, she’s barely holding on. And when a stranger breaks into her home and tries to kill her, everything unravels. The question isn’t just who tried to end her life, but why — and Alicia must uncover the truth before they strike again.

I’m honestly torn about this book, though not in a bad way. I didn’t dislike it at all; in fact, I read it in one sitting. It’s around 300 pages, and it’s an engaging, fast-paced read. I kept turning the pages, desperate to understand what was really happening… yet even after finishing, I’m still not entirely sure I do.

Most of the characters are unlikeable (perhaps intentionally), but Alicia, the FMC — remains compelling in her own way. She’s deeply troubled, trapped in constant fear, and her perspective makes you question everything right alongside her.

Pros:
• The portrayal of mental illness and fear was powerful. It captured how anxiety and paranoia can consume a person — physically, mentally, and emotionally, which isn’t easy to write authentically. I appreciated how the story delved into the blurred line between reality and perception.
• The writing itself is beautiful. Marina Meier’s prose is vivid, descriptive, and emotionally charged, with a natural flow that keeps the reader engaged.
• Though the beginning felt a little slow, once it found its rhythm, I couldn’t put it down. That kind of pull
, the need to keep reading is always a sign of a strong story.

Cons / Constructive Thoughts:
• The switch between “Ali” and “Alicia” early on was confusing. If other characters had simply called her “Ali,” it might have flowed more naturally.
• The dialogue occasionally felt off — a bit too young and unrealistic for adult characters, especially for police officers. Some conversations could have been tighter and more believable.
• Without spoiling anything, the romantic element didn’t feel convincing. Love doesn’t happen that fast, especially not in the midst of trauma. As someone with PTSD, I found that aspect hard to believe — trust wouldn’t come so easily. I understand the loneliness and desire to be believed, but the romance felt unnecessary and, at times, inconsistent with the situation.

Overall, I’m not entirely sure how to feel about this book. I devoured it quickly and wanted more, but it never quite reached the clarity or conclusion I was hoping for. It explores real and important issues beautifully, but it also felt somewhat long-winded, and by the end, I wasn’t sure what the ultimate takeaway was meant to be.

That said, I genuinely enjoyed the experience. I never once considered DNFing it, which says a lot. I just wish it had been slightly faster-paced, more cohesive, and had a stronger resolution.

Marina Meier’s writing style is undeniably beautiful, and she clearly has a gift for atmosphere and storytelling. I’ll definitely be watching for whatever she writes next.

From the first chapter, the book locks you in with a sharp, suspenseful atmosphere.
I'm not someone who lives with anxiety, and I didn't realise how deeply it can shape everyday life and relationships. The way it's shown here made me stop and think. Alicia, the main character, opened this side for me, and I wonder now how many people are like her.
The high-stakes moments (no spoilers) are written so tightly that I couldn't put the book down until things settled. Those scenes leave a mark and you'll catch yourself glancing over your shoulder in an empty room or alley.
And then there's Jordy. From his first pages he feels alive, not just a character. His pain, even without sharing his trauma, comes through in a way that stays with you. I found myself wishing for a friend like him in the hardest moments.
A psychological thriller that knows how to get under your skin.

Then I Choose a Horrible End was a book that gripped me in ways I did not expect. It did take me a little while to get into things, but once my attention was caught, I needed to know what happened next!

If you are a fan of psychological thrillers, questioning reality, complicated characters, and representation of mental health conditions, then this book is for you.

The story revolves around Alicia, a successful consultant, who is navigating both the corporate world and her own anxiety. Her supportive boyfriend and her therapist are integral to her ability to thrive. Until… she is attacked, and she can no longer escape her fears.

How do you go on when your entire nervous system is on alert and sees everything as a threat?? How do you move on? Can you really ever move on? Or will trauma forever taint our ability to function?

This story carries suspense and tells a tale of how fear seeps into everyday life, creating doubt, shame, and disconnection.

I debated between 4 and 5 stars as I'm personally not a huge fan of psychological thrillers that leave you guessing at the conclusion. This story does have a bonus chapter set a few years on, but it is not a full explanation. Some of the chapters also jumped between reflections on the past and the current situation. I did find this confusing to follow in places, but I think this was a deliberate writing choice to highlight how overwhelming anxiety can be.

Ultimately, this is my personal preference only, and I am so excited to see new authors share their tireless work with the world. For this reason, I have left it at 5 stars, and I look forward to reading more in the future.

Loved the book!
I feel like I carried this story home with me. The fear in the book sits heavy in the air and the way Alicia sees everything as danger touched me very deeply. The writing is clear and strong, it does not hide the truth of what is inside our minds. I loved how the tension never relaxed and I was rooting for peace even when it seemed impossible. This book is a powerful reminder that sometimes the worst enemy is what we carry in ourselves.

This author’s bio includes a shout out to Stephen King and I am not surprised, as the inspiration was obvious. This reminded me of his Bill Hodges trilogy which is a fav of mine, so I had the best time reading it. I thought it was brilliantly paced and incredibly well written.
I did find the ending slightly unsatisfying. I just wanted a few more things to be tied together but otherwise this is an excellent debut and I can’t wait to see what Marina Meier writes next!

This was a slow burn thriller that built suspense and tension as the story progresses. Slower than what I'm used to but I still enjoyed it.
I felt like the story depends alot on your imagination. The author describes things in depth and the character's are well put together and also touches on the fact that trauma lingers after an incident.
Opened ending for readers discretion which I think was quite clever as everyone has a different perspective.

Beautifully written despite the heavy subject.

Alicia lives with crippling fear, as a reader we stand to learn how debilitating that can be.

As tension rises and Alicia's worst nightmare turns into her reality, we see her seek the safety and support she needs.

This book left me feeling rather emotional.

A must read if you enjoy a slow burning psychological mystery.

Happy to have received an advanced copy to review voluntarily.

Marina Meier places the reader squarely inside the mind of Alicia Brooks, a woman whose life appears stable on the surface, successful career, long-term relationship, familiar routines, but whose internal reality is dominated by intrusive fear. From the opening chapters, the novel carefully builds a sense of unease, using Alicia’s anxious perceptions to blur the line between imagined threat and genuine danger.

The novel excels in its slow-burn approach. Meier takes her time establishing Alicia’s relationships with her boyfriend Jack and best friend Katie, not simply as background, but as essential pressure points that reveal Alicia’s emotional fragility and need for validation. These relationships are imperfect, strained, and ultimately unreliable, whether through neglect, emotional distance, or simple inability to cope with Alicia’s unraveling. Crucially, the story never offers easy villains. Everything is filtered through Alicia’s limited perception, forcing the reader to constantly question what is real.

The appearance of “The Silent Walker” marks a chilling escalation. The masked intruder is terrifying not just for what he represents, but for the uncertainty surrounding him. Is Alicia finally justified in her fears, or is this the ultimate manifestation of a mind collapsing under years of untreated anxiety and isolation? Meier sustains this ambiguity with impressive control, allowing dread to seep into even mundane moments.

Atmosphere is one of the book’s greatest strengths. Quiet suburban streets, brightly lit homes, and empty rooms become psychologically charged spaces. Meier’s descriptive choices mirror Alicia’s mental state, turning safety into threat and familiarity into menace. Small details, shadows, locks, glances, carry disproportionate weight, just as they would for someone trapped in constant hypervigilance.

While some supporting characters feel deliberately distant or underdeveloped, this works thematically. Alicia’s world is shrinking. As her paranoia deepens, emotional support erodes, and abandonment becomes both real and perceived. The late introduction of Jordy, a rare empathetic presence, underscores how fragile and fleeting human connection can be once someone is labeled “too much.”

What ultimately makes Then I Choose a Horrible End so effective is its emotional honesty. This is not a thriller that relies on twists alone. The real horror lies in watching a woman lose credibility, agency, and connection while desperately trying to be believed, even by herself. The novel invites compassion rather than judgment, leaving readers unsettled not just by what happens, but by how easily it could happen.

For readers drawn to psychological thrillers that explore anxiety, perception, female loneliness, and the terrifying ambiguity between illness and truth, Then I Choose a Horrible End is a powerful, haunting read that lingers long after the final page.

Honestly, I’m kind of sad the book is over now. The main focus in the book is on fear and how people who are afraid of everything live in the world. It's portrayed really well. I was on edge when The Silent Walker showed up the first time. So tense.
And when HE appeared *again* I was honestly shocked. At first, I didn’t quite realize what was happening, and then when she heard that raspy sound from him... God, it creeped me out. The image of The Silent Walker is strong and memorable, not necessarily terrifying, but very vivid.
The scene when she ran across that broken glass? That was probably one of the best scenes in the book. I swear, I physically recoiled. My legs curled up a couple times just reading it.
In the second half, we meet Jordy as the other main character. Honestly, he annoyed me sometimes. Just felt like a clueless kid. He’s kind, sure, but I don’t like overly naive people who go all “I’ll save her!” Like, who asked you? Alicia was right — go study, Jordy. And some of his conversations with Jack? Total cringe, like he was trying to act tough or something. But I also felt really sorry for him, knowing his background.
Jack... yeah, he’s kind of a jerk, but he did care about Alicia. Sure, he’s a career-obsessed guy, but he traveled with her, got her whatever hotel she needed, got her a therapist, and even when she was acting out — he still stuck around.
And Auntie Chang? I loved her.
The author wanted the book to be unsettling in places and to make people nervous for the main character — and she nailed that.

A Haunting Dance with Death in the Urban Shadows

Marina Meier's "Then I Choose a Horrible End" transforms a big city's dark underbelly into a masterful psychological horror. Following a young woman navigating urban life's unsightly corners, Meier creates an atmosphere where death feels perpetually close, lurking in darkened alleys and unexpected encounters.
What makes this novel gripping is its intimate proximity to danger. Fear doesn't arrive with dramatic flourishes but through the agonizing anticipation of inevitable catastrophe. Meier understands that true terror lives in the waiting.
The book's greatest strength is its meticulous detail. Each scene is richly textured, pulling you deeper into the protagonist's deteriorating sense of safety. The city becomes a character itself, its forgotten spaces mirroring the darkest recesses of the human psyche.
And then there's the ending—or rather, its absence. Just when you expect the horrible end promised by the title, Meier subverts all expectations. The terror isn't in the ending but in the realization that the horrible end is always looming, never quite arriving, never releasing its grip. It's a bold choice that lingers long after the final page.
"Then I Choose a Horrible End" is essential reading for anyone seeking psychological horror that truly understands what keeps us awake at night.

The book is an absolute delight — gripping from the very first pages and beautifully written. It constantly keeps the reader in a state of gentle doubt: did it really happen, or is it all a distorted perception of reality?

The author manages to portray fear and trauma with striking authenticity while keeping it emotionally bearable for the reader. I was afraid I might experience my personal “horror syndrome” — that moment when a story becomes so disturbing you hesitate to go on. But it never happened. I followed Alicia’s and Jordi’s stories with deep empathy and genuine interest in the subtle psychological structure of the narrative.

As a pediatrician, I found the childhood chapters especially insightful — the way the author depicts the origins of childhood fears and the silent gap between what adults think and what children actually feel.

As a fellow writer, I admired the precise and vivid descriptions of people, places, and interiors. Such wonderful attention to detail!

If I were to choose one word for this book, it would be balance. The balance between suspense and calm, between flashbacks and present action, is masterful. The pacing feels just right — never rushed, never slow.

An intelligent, engaging, and thoroughly professional novel in every sense. Can’t wait to read what comes next!

This book messed with my head in the best possible way. It’s not your usual thriller - it’s about fear itself ; the kind that hides inside your thoughts and quietly makes the world feel unsafe.

Alicia, the main character, seems to have it all. But under the surface, she’s drowning in anxiety and intrusive thoughts that twist ordinary moments into something dark. As the story unfolds, you start to lose track of what’s real and what’s just her fear taking over, and that’s what makes it so powerful.

What hit me the most was how real it all felt. Meier doesn’t dramatize fear; she captures the quiet, exhausting version of it, the fear that eats away at you when no one’s watching.
It’s not a typical “scary” book; it’s slower, deeper, and way more personal. It crawls under your skin and stays there, making you question your own thoughts long after you’re done reading.

If you’ve ever lived with anxiety, or if you love stories that feel real and stay with you , definitely read this book.

Now this is what I call an immersive story! Not only did Marina Meier grasp the very nature of human fears (sometimes rational, sometimes not), but she also managed to re-create the real world on the pages of her book. The amount of smallest details, smart metaphors and epithets, and vivid descriptions made me forget where I was at the moment and follow Meier's story. I liked the "realness" of her heroes. None of them is perfect. Especially the main heroine Alicia. At times she could be annoying, but that's exactly what made her alive. I liked that Meier chose Alicia to demonstrate that fears don't care whether you're successful, or rich, or have a handsome boyfriend. The fears could still turn your dream life into a nightmare. The book constantly holds you on a hook. And you can't decide what's real and what's the product of Alicia's imagination. The ending is open for intepretation, and that's what kept it lingering in the back of my mind long after I finished reading. I would highly recommend this story to those who like tickling their nerves!

Firstly thank you to the lovely author for giving me a chance to read this prior to publication. Forever grateful.

Official blurb - She’s always been afraid. But what if this time...she’s right to be?

On the surface, Alicia Brooks is a successful professional in Chicago, balancing a demanding job and life with her long-term boyfriend, Jack. But deep inside, she has spent years battling her fears — constant, intrusive anxieties that turn even the smallest thoughts into potential threats. A suspicious office worker, a stranger’s gaze, the secrets hiding inside an overgrown bush — everything feeds into her unease.

One night, while home alone, a masked figure appears in her house, knife in hand. Alicia escapes — barely — but at what cost? The Silent Walker, as she names him, begins to haunt her waking hours. Is he a serial killer? A stranger with a vendetta? Or something far more unsettling?

Alicia must make a choice: endless horror...or a horrible end?

My thoughts - I would describe this book as like the Blair witch project in the sense that it was open for use of the imagination. It was definitely a psychological thriller rather than a twisty shocker. If you like the slow burn, what goes bump in the night, paranoid mind vibes - you might just like this one.

I read it in one sitting and it totally pulled me in.
So, about the plot. I was raised on crime stories, so naturally, I jumped straight into suspicion mode about the plot. I started suspecting everyone. And somewhere in the back of my head, I had this thought that something was off with one of the main characters. That idea kept popping up.
Basically, every time a new character appeared, I mentally dressed them in a “potential villain” costume. And if it felt like they didn’t quite fit, I’d go, “Alright, cool, next.” Then the next character would show up, and I’d do it again. I’d say Jack, her boyfriend, stood out the most for me. Anyway, everyone got the villain costume at some point. In the end, it was Jack and the cop who stayed in the lineup.
Now, for a tiny complaint: not enough corpses 😅 Personally, I like things a little darker, a little bloodier. But it’s not a horror book, so I’m not reducing my rating because of it.

I really enjoyed «Then I Choose a Horrible End». From the very first pages, I was hooked by the tension and the constant feeling that something isn’t quite right. Every chapter left me guessing if this is really happening, or it’s all in Alicia’s head.
Marina Meier did an amazing job capturing the creeping sense of fear and making Alicia’s emotions feel so real and understandable. I like how the story blurs the line between reality and imagination.
Everyone has experienced fear in some form, and this story dives deep into that - how it can haunt you, keep you on edge, and make you wary of every corner. The intriguing ending left me still wondering what truly happened and makes me look forward to reading the second book.

Arc Review

Then I Choose A Horrible END By Marina Meier

Thanks you @booksirens for the opportunity to e arc read this. It really has me looking over my shoulders from now on

Is it in her head, her living nightmares coming to life or is she telling the truth. It's builds tension through out the book and make you second guess everything. She's already dealing with her own fears and anxiety but throw in a masked man in the shadows and not knowing who to trust. It's what brings paranoia to the front abs centre and who you can trust and not trust even your own mind.

It's a gripping psychological thriller. Coming 14 October 2025.

This was not my favorite book. I'm sure it will appeal to others, but I found myself so frustrated with Ali that I was ready to strangle her. (Probably why Psych never appealed to me when I was a nurse. It also frustrated me that the epilogue didn't provide any real resolution to the story. It just ends. I like all the loose ends tied up in a nice, neat bow, and I didn't get that here. So, would I give Meirer another try? I think I would, just not in the psychological thriller next time. I received a review copy from the author via BookSirens, and this review reflects my honest and voluntary opinion.
