This was ok? Like how old was Anakin supposed to be? Because I'm not getting that Brother-vibe from Ani and Obi here. Also... Anakin is a full on d-bag here so I'm unsure how the Jedi Council didn't see this boy was evil... cause he was making some Dark Side decisions here.

never read the choose your Adventure book. but i had to listen to this audible freebie. its only very short, but is a very fun look into an early Obi-wan and Anakin Adventure. Cavan captures their characters perfectly and the narration is very good. and I enjoyed the Adventure and the twist.

a fun, short Star Wars listen for all ages.

This short but charming audiobook (free on Audible) follows Obi-Wan and Anakin on a fun little adventure that includes some familiar faces (Yoda, Mace Windu) and even temple guards, which was neat. The author nailed the characterizations and relationship dynamic between Obi-Wan and Anakin despite this just being a kid’s book. The narrator also did an excellent job of capturing their voices, which elevated it to 5 stars for me!

A short, fun listen, much like an episode of The Clone Wars. Yoda gets kidnapped; Obi-Wan and padawan Anakin have to save him. Simple, breezy, enjoyable — mostly.

The story's weakness is in its stakes. Is Yoda going to die? Of course not. We all know how this ends before it begins.

However, the author almost hit the ball. Almost. At the end, Bant Eerin is revealed as the villain. Now I can only speak for myself, but this was a genuine gut punch. Bant Eerin is a Mon Calamari Jedi from the expanded universe and, more importantly, Obi-Wan's childhood friend. What do you mean she kidnapped Yoda?! What, why—

I was honestly momentarily furious. Don't you dare do this (very minor) character dirty. Don't you dare pull this character from the archives just for the shock value of saying they're bad.

And then the rug gets pulled back (again). 😑 The whole thing was a ruse by Mace Windu and Yoda — a test and lesson for Obi-Wan and Anakin. Big sigh. All that emotional potential, squandered.

Here's what frustrates me: the fix is obvious. Put the Bant Eerin reveal at the midpoint instead of the finale. Obi-Wan's childhood friend has kidnapped Yoda — now we're invested. Even readers who don't know this character can get invested, simply because Obi-Wan is. With Obi-Wan conflicted, we feel that conflict with him. As structured, the twist exists for a brief moment only to be undone. Moved earlier, it becomes the engine of the story.

Aside from the ending, the characterization for both Obi-Wan and Anakin are spot-on, and the adventure clips along at a good pace — though the pauses between scenes are too long. That's on the audio editors.

A fun, mediocre romp worth your time if you're hungry for more Obi-Wan and Anakin adventures. It just could have been so much more.

This was so much fun. I love things about the procedure of the Jedi Order. I specialise in policing fiction at university and when you think about it, the Jedi are the Galactic police. Yoda being a fun mentor/boss instead of a battle weary General is always great. He clearly had fun with this. Anikin was at his most Anakin all the way through the story. The tantrums were just 10/10. I love how Anakin's response to anything is hotwiring or reprogramming the various bits of technology around him rather than doing what he's told.

I've been hyperfixated on Star Wars recently, and when I found this on audible I had to listen.

"Anakin had a hard time trusting anyone who hid their face." Oh the fucking irony.

Pretty good until the twist ending that it was all a test Obi-Wan’s best friend, Yoda, and Mace Windu were playing on him. Never knew the Jedi were such practical jokers. At least it was free with my Audible subscription.
