witches and vampires is such an iconic combination and combined with celestial references? an absolute dream to start “autumnal reading” (ignoring the fact that australia will not, in fact, be heading into autumn).

a massive thank you to maggie sunseri for the gifted e-arc.

”I let Evie do this because I loved her. And loving someone meant letting them make their own decisions, even if those decisions wrecked me.”

And just like that my favorite couples story has come to an end 😭

Evie and Kylo are my absolute FAVORITE book couple atm. They have the perfect balance of darkness and light. The steps they take to care for each other in and out of the døm/sūb dynamic is absolutely perfect. I love that their relationship isn’t always shown as something so easy and carefree as well. They each have their faults and still love the other no matter. Kylo always let Evie choose her path, no matter how difficult it was for him to let her do so. Our side characters are as fantastic as ever! And we even meet some new people this time, who I freaking ADORE! I need more of Vesper’s story 🥹
The funniest thing for my this time was Kylo finally meeting his “boyfriend” 👀😂

If you like books with vampires, shifters, witches, BDSM spice, possessive MMCs, and amazing banter this book is for you.

Book 2 in the Everlasting Possession duet isn’t the end of Evie and Kylo, but the beginning.
As the born begin to move closer towards war with the turned, someone Evie least expected to see again in her life reappears. Evie takes this opportunity to hide in plain sight and try to get information Kylo and their clan of turned can use against the born. But at what cost? With the witch who murdered Princeton still on the loose Evie knows she must locate and end her. And when she does find her, it was someone she was least expecting. And little does Evie know this witch has it out for her, BAD.

Thank you Maggie for this wonderful series. I’ll never get enough of them. EVER.
And a HUGE thank you for having me on your ARC team 🥹🫶🏼

I really loved this duet!!
4.25 / 5⭐️
Starting off from the diabolical cliffhanger of the previous book, Evie and Kylo slowly become such a strong power couple! Evie really leaned into her growth journey, healing her past trauma and facing it head on. And I love how Kylo supported her all throughout the book despite how much their relationship was tested.

I did really love how this one was more political, almost mimicking things that were happening in real life as well! Reading is definitely political, in my opinion, and I loved how Maggie Sunseri tied it all together.

I also loved how much more witchy this book was compared to the first! And the spice??? The SPICCCEEEE in this duet was definitely right up my alley. Idk what that says about me as an individual, but I own it lol.
Also that Rune cameo at the end? Hilarious!

Overall I loved this series so much! I might just need to revisit the previous duology to reevaluate my thoughts, because I loved Evie and Kylo so much.

MMC is very Damon Salvatore coded throughout the series, the type of spice in this is completely different from what I’m used to reading and i learned isn’t my favorite. That being said, I enjoyed the world and plot enough where it overshadowed my “meh” feeling about the spice. I did like book 1 more, I felt book 2 was slow paced for about 80% of the story and the ending felt rushed.

no bc the way book one ended, i immediately RAN when this popped up on my kindle 😭

thank you so much maggie babes for the arc !! ugh i love you downnnn 🫀 these characters and their story will forever live with me

this is a dark romantasy, vampires + witches, masked vigilante, revenge plot, tarot cards, hekate, feminine rage, breeding kink, daddy dom, groveling, healing, found family, duo pov, book two in duet 🖤

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO READ BOOK ONE (marked by masks and secrets) BEFORE CONTINUING !!

picking up right where book one ended, evie has felt lost like no other. she’s on the path to get revenge for her family and to finally be free from the hold the born vampires have on her. with the help of kylo and their people, they fall deeper into the unknown and with that, uncover more dark secrets. evie and kylo’s relationship is hanging on by a thread. but he will never stop supporting and spoiling her.

gosh how i love kylo and evie 😭 their story just makes my heart clench and i can’t stop thinking about them. this literally had me falling more in love with tarot cards !! it’s just wild to me how i haven’t been able to stop thinking about tarot and this plays such a huge role in this book 🙌🏼

the spice ??? THE. SPICE. WAS. EVERYTHING. I. NEEDED. 😍🤤

evie’s character switch was one that i was hoping on 😩 her whole life flipped upside down and to see her raging actually had me standing up and clapping 👏🏼 and the kylo over here providing for her and being there for her every step of the way ?? yuh i need me a him 🥰 the groveling did it for me 🧎🏻‍♀️

THE ENDING ??!!? OH I’M SO PUMPED FOR WHAT’S NEXT 🤩

3/5🌶️

Fresh from the tragedy of the previous book, Evie is set on a dark path to reunite her family and break the chains that the born vampires have on her, Kylo and the rest of the made vampires. As a figure from her past emerges and a new dangerous player enters the game, Evie and Kylo’s relationship is put to the test. Figuring out who they can trust will be paramount to taking their revenge and claiming the city as theirs.

This book was witchy and fun! I was absolutely lapping up all of the magical references in the story, the strong tarot influence and the interwoven story of the witches and the vampires. The spice was SPICINNNNN, as per usual, and Maggie’s writing keeps getting better and better. I’m obsessed with our obsessive Kylo and the level of grump that Evie displays. I love me a grumpy FMC so darn much!! The ending has me SO EXCITED to see what’s going to happen next because, no spoilers, I think it’s gonna get wild up in here!

What I Loved About This Story:
✨Grumpy & stabby FMC
✨Groveling… oh so much groveling 😈
✨SO much witchy influence: tarot, Hekate... it was so fun!
✨Interwoven story with Sunseri’s first duet

Thank you to the author for the free early copy of this book. I love being a part of your Street Team!

Thank you Maggie for the gifted arc!! First of all, I just want to say that I absolutely love this world Maggie has created, and my heart was absolutely SOARING at the connections to the eternal obsession duet.
Maggie has such a great way of writing through healing trauma—it’s something I’ve noticed in all of her books I’ve read. The characters truly put in the work to heal from their past traumas, and I love how that’s realistically explored in a fantasy setting. Also, these characters are so good at communicating!! In a genre that’s pretty flooded with toxic (but fun) relationships, this is a breath of fresh air. Evie has done so much growing since the beginning of book one, and I was proud of the progress she made in this book!!
I also love when a fantasy novel explores themes that are relevant to real life, and boy did this book do that!! *whispers* reading is political
Anyways, I’ve had so much fun with every single book that’s taken place in this world, and I feel like there’s still so much to explore, especially with the introduction of certain new characters. Happy vampire season xoxo

DNF @ 20% and rly sad about it

kylo was icking me out so bad and their dynamic and inner monologues took a really cringey turn i was basically eye rolling and having to put my kindle down

if i had to hear one more pet name and weird show of possession in public or “he loved my violence” or some other thing about darkness and etc etc i was gonna lose it

Dr. Smut’s Checklist Book Review: Claimed by Fangs and Darkness
1. Trigger Warnings: 1/1 point.
This book had it all. There are triggers from the past woven into the characters’ backstories, making them who they are and beautiful stories of healing. There are triggers in the present with high-stakes danger and serious “Who did this to you?” energy. And then, my personal favorite, there are triggers in the spice... yum. It was dark and delicious and I loved it!
Full point for trigger warnings.
2. Characters: 1/1 point
If you remember my review of book 1, I gave it 0.75 for characters because I wanted more badassery from Evie. And BESTIES... MAGGIE DELIVERED.
Kylo= shadow daddy vampire dom. Obviously I’m obsessed. And Book 1 Evie was meek and timid and just starting to come into her own. But Book 2 Evie? She took no prisoners, owned her power, and looked cute as hell while doing it!
She earned her full point for characters.
3. Plot: 0.5/1 point
I was hooked from the start. We pick up from a huge cliffhanger at the end of book 1 so I was already feral for the story. The pacing was solid, and the stakes stayed high the whole way through. That said, there were a few spots where the plot got a little tangled and hard to follow, especially when it came to some of the politics. And the big reveal at the end was creative but I did see it coming.
So while I loved the ride, I’m giving the plot 0.5 points.
4. Smut: 0.75/1 point
First of all, Kylo’s dirty talk is unmatched. Period.
The smut was descriptive and k!nky, but book 1 had a much larger k!nk buffet and I felt like there was less of it in this book.
Having said that, the smut was still delicious.
That’s why it’s getting 0.75 points for smut.
5. Fun-to-read: 1/1 point
This book was dark, delicious, and STRESSFUL in the absolute best way. The pacing kept me hooked, the banter made me giggle, and even when the politics got a little twisty, I was still fully entertained. Between the spice, the drama, and the beautiful and emotional character arcs, I had the best time reading it.
Full point for fun.

Overall! That’s a grand total of 4.25 stars and I’m going to give it 3 chili peppers for the spice. Thanks to Maggie Sunseri for the free book in exchange for my honest review! I am honored to be a member of her street team!

To say I was waiting for the shoe to drop is an understatement. This finale to the duet dragged on for what felt like ages while repeating the same tired sub and Dom dynamic over and over again.

I really wanted more from Evie and Kylo, especially when it came to the war for the turned and mortals. Instead, it fell flat and turned into a vicious cycle of Kylo trying to control Evie while leaning into Dom behavior at wildly inappropriate times. It became too much. The charm and potential that made the first book work were pushed so hard here that it felt like complete overkill rather than a natural escalation.

Evie does fully step into herself as a witch and challenges her power in meaningful ways. That growth was one of the stronger elements of the book. However, after all the trials and buildup, I was disappointed by how sidelined Hekate became by the end. We went through all of that just to barely engage with the goddess role. Evie could have been pushed so much further, and I hope future installments revisit that potential.

Kylo was where the book really lost me. He swung too far from revolutionary leader to emotional Dom without balance. This is supposed to be a man with an eighty plus year master plan, sharp philosophy, and political intelligence, yet he repeatedly nearly threw it all away because of his feelings for Evie. Instead of growth, it felt like his character was intentionally stalled to serve the romance.

As for the villains, what was framed as the threat of Mad King Earle ended up being a trio of lord borns and a witch. Conrad was unsettling in a deeply uncomfortable way, especially with his fixation on punishment. Aster was pure ick. The love bombing, manipulation, and obsession with reclaiming Evie as his rightful child bride was genuinely disgusting 🤮. Juliette was chaotic and manic, clearly manipulated by Aster, but her actions were still shameless. Her desire to replace Evie and steal Kylo despite knowing Evie wanted nothing to do with Aster was unhinged. Every Juliette scene felt erratic and poorly handled, and honestly, they were the main reason it took me so long to get through this book. Reading her sections was exhausting.

And after all that buildup, we only get one major battle with the born. One chapter. After an entire book of hype, it was over almost as soon as it started. Completely underwhelming.

I went into this finale with high expectations and walked away feeling discouraged from continuing the series. For now, I’m saying goodbye.

4.25 ⭐️

I will begin by blaming the frickin reading slump that I gave Maggie's book less than five stars. Trust me, every book by her is a five-star book for me. I think I will need to reread this when I am in a better headspace. Anywho, I still enjoyed it! I LOVE Kylo and Evie's relationship, and our man, Kylo, is unhinged on one hand but soft on the other when it comes to Evie. His words and actions, I must add, can warm every heart; if not, there is something wrong with you, yes, I said it lol.
I enjoyed the feminine rage, the action, the twists and turns here.
Their growth throughout this book was so sweet, and Evie's strength is so impressive, you go girl!
I love how Maggie, in every duet, focuses heavily on carness, trauma, and healing in her books. She crafts these moments so beautifully.

I won't reveal more of the book's content, mainly since it is the sequel to Marked by Masks and Secrets. Please read her books, you will fall in love with them :)

P.S. It is recommended to read the Eternal Obsession Duet before this one. Even though this duet focuses on a different couple, there are moments when characters appear from the previous duet.

With that said, thank you so much for yet another ARC, Maggie. I can't wait for more of your works and men that I cannot stop falling for :)

I really enjoyed this conclusion to Kylo and Evie’s story!! Scarlett and Rune may still be my favorite couple in this universe but I sure did love Kyvie and their story in the Everlasting Possession duet.

Kylo is everything I’d want in a MMC: hot, possessive, vampire, and wears a mask 😉. Evie goes through SOOOO much character growth in this book and I truly loved seeing her come into herself.

Book 2 picks up right after the shocking cliffhanger ending of book 1. Maggie’s books are never predictable and this is no exception. This one had so many twist, turns and it felt like an emotional rollercoaster! As Evie grows into her power Kylo must learn to support her and not hold her back, resulting in massive character growth for Kylo.

We got plenty of red hot spice in this book including some kink that began in book 1. If you like your vampire MMCs tall, dark, and dominant then you’ll love Kylo.

Maggie also laid the groundwork for a full circle moment involving a characters heritage that I’m sure we will see unfold in the next duet. This book was incredibly satisfying while still leaving me wanting more!

Read this if you like:
🩸vampires & witches
🩸she’s a shadow mommy
🩸possessive MMC
🩸power dynamics
🩸high spice and kink
🩸found family
🩸conclusion to a Duology

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Thank you so much for Maggie Sunseri for the advance reader copy!

This book took a while for me to get through for a few reasons:
1. This series is on kindle unlimited, which is awesome, but there isn’t an audiobook yet, and I’m definitely more of an audiobook girly (so I can get other things done simultaneously)
2. I adore this series more than any other fantasy romance EVER. Maggie Sunseri can have my SOUL if it means she never stops writing these books, and I will devour them gratefully. Because of this, I was distraught at the idea of finishing the series, so much that I made myself slow my reading toward the end.
3. There are some SAD elements to this book, and because I felt so deeply for these characters, I found it difficult to read those parts.. so much so that I forced myself to put my kindle away for a few days to emotionally prepare for the heartbreak o was reading.

All of this goes to show just how deeply I adore and cherish this series; it’s truly an out-of-body experience to love them so much.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- FIVE STARS
🌶️🌶️🌶️- spicy dom/sub

✨Witch/vampire
✨Obsessive & posessive MMC
✨Trauma
✨War & rebellion
✨Star crossed lovers

He is a masked, obsessive vampire and she is a powerful but deeply traumatized witch. Oh and there are a lot of shadows involved. Do I even need to say more? A great read for spooky season!

This is the perfect book if you want plot AND a ton of SPICE. This duet is not for the faint of heart, be sure to check trigger warnings before enjoying! I devoured this book and loved every second! The banter between Kylo and Evie was top notch! LOVED IT!

I was gifted an ARC by the author and it was an amazing adventure. It's the 2nd book in this duology and 4th book in this world. The plot and characters are interesting. The magic system is intriguing. Some spice thrown in here and there for added flair. It comes out on KU in the next few days. It is lengthy but a fun ride.

Another fun, super spicy read! I’m so glad this author has announced another book in this world. I HAVE QUESTIONS. Evie’s character arc in this book is wild and I loved how Kylo let her grow, even when the situations she put herself in pained him.

Both of these duets were spicy and entertaining, especially for spooky season (if you’re into masked stalker vampire shadow daddies lmao).

First of all, thank you to Maggie for having me back as an ARC reader for this duet!

When I tell you I was DYING for book two, I meant it. When I got my ARC notification, I stopped reading my current book and immediately began this one. The cliffhanger from Masked by Masks and Secrets gave me a book hangover. I couldn’t stop thinking about Evie and Kylo! Which brings me to returning to Etherdale.

I LOVED that I was able to jump right back into their world. I wasn’t confused with where the book began (I really hate when I have to backtrack to the first book for information.) It was very easy to pick up exactly where book one left us. This book had ALL the goods. We got returning characters, introduced to some new great characters, horrible villains, spice, magic, and more!

Kylo and Evie continue to be perfection. Finding their own ways to work together to bring down the turned vampires. In my first review, I said that Evie and Kylo were more intertwined than they knew at the time and I was RIGHT. The shadows came to play! I will miss this couple very much but I enjoyed their story and their adventures so very much. This duet will always have a special place in my heart.

4.5/5 So I really loved this series overall and was kind of surprised by this book. Definitely at the end of the last book I thought that this was set up for the actual war/revolution aspect of this novel to be taking the center of this book’s plot but the author went for espionage. That was both surprising and creative! I really liked that creativity but that meant the whole overarching revolution plot was crammed into like 30 pages at the end of the book which is why I deduct from 5 stars. I also still loved Evie and Kylo’s relationship and that they reacted in realistic ways to situations within their character structure rather than in stupid ways like a lot of authors choose to. Would totally recommend this for a spooky season read if you’re looking for some vampires and witches!!!

ARC Review

4⭐️ | 4🌶️

Oh Kylo baby was almost too sweet in the second book of this duet. Talk about perfect boyfriend material. I would have connected more if there was more happening but it felt very boring when everything was perfect, I enjoyed more of the tension and pining book 1 delivered. I really enjoyed the last 20% of the book and felt like it was a great conclusion. Obviously that ending had me foaming at the mouth of another book with Rune and Kylo.

A nice wrap-up to this duet, I just wish the peak of the book had been more fleshed out and didn’t happen so far into it- definitely needed more time with the ending. Still have a few questions but all in all a fun set of books to read!

The previous books in this universe (Eternal Obsession) were... okay-ish, despite the cringe. This second one, however, (Everlasting Possession) was a rough read. Pinpointing the exact problem is tough, but let's dive into the dialogue that made me want to throw the second book across the room.

The "Protective/Heroic" Dialogue That Wasn't
Kylo hits Evie with this gem:
"I am doing everything I can to give you your freedom. Even if It’s fucking killing me."
Are you serious? Is this supposed to make me sigh with romantic admiration? Buddy, get over yourself. You don't own her. We get the Dom-Sub dynamic, but the "I'm dying to give you freedom" martyr routine is just peak ridiculousness

The Unending Weakness
Kylo:
"I need my blood down your pretty little throat. Now."

Evie:
"Yes, Kylo. Yes, please.” (Said with a sad smile.)

Evie, dear, you can make vampires with your goddess-given power! You are not a helpless doll! Her constant weak surrender makes it feel like she hasn't developed an inch. It's grating.

And the ultimate cringiest moment
Evie's internal worry:
“What if Kylo wouldn’t look at me the same? If he knew that someone else had touched me, when he was supposed to be the first and only person to taste me forever?”
Girl, please. If his love depends on being your first and only, he doesn't deserve you in the first place.

The only positive thing I took away from this whole ordeal was finally finding out that Scarlett's (from the Eternal Obsession books) biological parents are Vesper and Conrad. A small piece of universe lore does not justify the emotional labour of reading this. It took me a month, but since I enjoy rolling my eyes, I had to finish it.

While I enjoyed the plot of the turned and mortals vs the born, the dom/sub relationship or like the book just claims „roleplay“ I did not enjoy.

Kylo in his thoughts never talks about that he just means roleplay when he thinks about how it turns him on to hurt and humiliate Evie within his POV.
His kinks like spitting at someone, when it isn‘t even when in need for lube, is purely a disrespectful act. And spitting into Evie‘s mouth where she then has to swallow the disrespect and say thank you? Just at the end of the book you even get a spitting at one of the villains to show disrespect but when it‘s the MMC spitting at the FMC it‘s supposed to be hot? No. It‘s not.

If it all is just „roleplay“ why are they not switching roles from time to time. That of course never happens. The MMC Kylo keeps getting hard at just thinking about how he can humiliate and hurt Evie next. Rinse. Repeat.

The more dark romance/romantasy/paranormal books with bdsm I read where of course the MMC is the dom, the more it makes me think about how male kinks are deeply rooted in misogyny.
Making women submit, small, humiliate them, hurt them, use them—and emotionally dependend on them.
It should be a red flag that these acts, yes also with consent, need aftercare because of course the mind and body realize that what just happened was fucked up.
Isn‘t is something that when Evie is tortured by their enemies they also use aftercare to try to manipulate and brainwash her?

The society in this series is close to ours in the way that of course it‘s a patriarchy. And within this world and within our real world I wonder why women who have less and less control over their body are willing to submit to a man, give up even more control and consent to be hurt and humiliated. This all just sounds like one of the biggest successes of patriarchy: Making women who fought hard for their indepencene and freedom, while both again are at stake, still agree to be the collared, beaten and spat at sub in a relationship.

I understand when women who suffered abuse see being a sub with consent as reclaiming control about who can cause them pain. But I‘ll never stop blaiming men who want their girlfriend to become their sub, because while they might claim otherwise their kinks are deeply misogynistic. They might grovel and claim they love their „girls“ but still get aroused from their pain. Get therapy instead and be a good boy and submit yourselves.

With Kylo I find it even more disturbing than with the MMC of the first duology, Rune, since Kylo‘s best childhood friend was brutalized and humiliated by the born. Yet he finds pleasure in similar acts. Yes yes, with consent…

So on the one side we have men in power with kinks that are deeply rooted in misogyny and on the other side we have women with internalized misogyny.

Can we have dark romance/romantasy/paranormal books where during their roleplay they switch it up. Because if not and the men keep being the doms these books just keep pushing internalized misogyny into the world as something desireable where there is enough of it already to keep women small and docile.

One sentence right at the end I agree with my whole heart, though:
„Being the bigger person is an abuser‘s favorite propaganda.“ I want to scream from the rooftops that forgiving an abuser, who are mostly men, is a sentiment mostly directed at women and it never really has the healing of women as its priority.
