Anyone who enjoys fantasy romance and wants a reprieve from a troubled world where true love is hard to find, Fall Flames is a must-read. This is an excellent collection of stories by various authors who were each able to use language beautifully to touch my heart.
Good short stories are hard to find as there’s not enough time to connect with the characters. But the heartwarming stories in this selection were able to capture my attention.
I love that Fall Flames is an inclusive anthology that embraces diversity, showing the obvious, that love transcends all things, including time, culture and ethnicity.
Hyperreal is my favourite story and as its protagonist says, “…work that evokes the feeling of immersion, blending the real and the make-believe to create an emotional experience.” A very apt description of the stories in this anthology. So my answer to the question in the story, “Did it work?” is “IT DID!” Two other stories that resonate well with me are One Wish and Harvest Fest, really beautiful ones.
Must also add that I find the inclusion of the songs very impressive. The links to the beautiful music and lyrics while reading the stories really enhanced my read. Highly recommended!
This is a great collection of autumn-themed short, romantic stories! Absolutely adored several of the stories I read, and now I have a few new authors I'm following. If you want an easy to read book that's full of quick reads for when you're short on time (or sleep ^_~), I suggest checking this one out! I received this as an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A bunch of stories together with fantasy and romance as the focus. Many of the stories made you smile as you the stories unfold and it was perfect for on my breaks. I could read three stories and get the fuzzy feeling then head back to work. Has something for everyone. I received this book as an ARC.
This is a collection of stories that vary in genre and style and even length. The biggest section is fantasy, fewer stories in other sections (magical realism, historical, contemporary, near future). Some poems and songs, you can listen to the music if you follow the links to youtube. This is something you can pick up and read if you don’t have time, a couple of stories are very short. Or if you have more time, sit and read the longer ones slowly. Some fun ones (Honest To The Last Drop, Hyperreal, One Wish) made me laugh. Beautiful art and music. A great selection for those who like romance with their fantasy.
I picked up Fall Flames because I knew practically all the authors in the anthology, and the autumn theme immediately intrigued me. I was curious to see how each author would weave the season into their love stories, and I wasn’t disappointed. This anthology delivers a wide spectrum of romance, diversity, and seasonal atmosphere that made it a joy to read.
The opening story, Tempest and Song by Blythe Brandenburg, set the perfect tone for the collection. With its focus on autumn solstice, thirst for knowledge, and a beautifully bittersweet romance between an ethereal creature and an elf, it immediately drew me in. The inclusion of artwork at the end was a delightful bonus. From there, the anthology spread into a variety of themes: later-in-life romance, nonstandard body types, queer love stories (both FF and MM), and people of color—all of which made the collection feel inclusive and representative.
I especially appreciated the range of autumnal settings: harvest festivals, masquerade balls, Halloween nights, and wilderness landscapes. The diversity extended to form as well, with poems, haikus, serenades, flash fiction, and longer short stories—there’s truly something for everyone.
My absolute favorite was Brandenburg’s Guardian Spirit, a sapphic romance steeped in folklore, with witch-hunt vibes and a shapeshifter twist. It gave me the gothic atmosphere of Vampire Hunter D or The Werewolf of Ansbach, and as a lover of folklore, it was a complete win.
But the anthology offered plenty of other gems: Breaking the Rules by A. M. Dilsaver, a playful love story between a princess and a thief; Masquerade by MK Hall, with a strong princess proving her courage in rivalry; and Halloween Bites by Cassia Hall, a fun and tender MM romance featuring a dentist and a vampire.
The standout for me, though, was Brandenburg’s Harvest Fest. With its folkloric festival vibes, pagan deity, and celebration of autumn rituals, it captured everything I hoped for in a seasonal romance anthology. The final story, with its focus on creativity and technology, closed the collection on a thoughtful note—reminding us that just as autumn requires adaptation to winter, so too must we adapt to the changes in our lives.
A warm, diverse, and magical anthology—highly recommended for anyone who wants romance wrapped in the beauty and mystery of fall.
