She’s fighting for freedom. He’s sworn to protect her. Together, they burn.

Mia is a global pop star with a secret: she's not in control of her own life. Trapped under a controlling manager, checked-out parents, and years of legal silence, she’s done playing a role just to survive. When a concert turns violent in small-town Texas, it’s not the chaos she remembers. It’s the cowboy who shields her without hesitation.

Maverick doesn’t want to play hero. The ex-rodeo star turned bodyguard keeps his scars hidden and his world small. But Mia’s not what he expected. She’s fire and fear, grit and grace, and she’s carrying more than anyone should. As the threat grows, he stays by her side, but it’s her strength that pulls him closer.

Their connection simmers before it sparks. Trust comes first, heat after. While Mia fights to reclaim her voice, Maverick learns what it means to be seen and still stay. What starts as protection becomes something steadier, something chosen. They stop surviving and start building, one quiet moment at a time.

Mia grows from silenced to self-defined, learning she doesn’t need a stage to have a voice. Maverick lets go of isolation, learning that letting someone in doesn’t mean losing himself. Together, they move from guarded roles to a bond rooted in agency, safety, and something real.

A slow burn to steamy, forced proximity, grumpy sunshine, cowboy bodyguard celebrity romance with hurt comfort, emotional depth, and a protective hero who falls hard. It explores autonomy, trust, healing, identity, resilience, control, freedom, and the quiet power of being chosen. It’s about reclaiming your voice, rediscovering your worth beyond fame, and finding love that stays even when the spotlight fades.

The Elevator Pitch: A pop star under legal control and a gruff cowboy bodyguard are thrown together after a violent attack forces them into hiding. What begins as protection turns into a slow burn connection laced with tension, trust, and heat. With danger closing in, they’ll have to choose each other or risk losing everything they’ve just begun to find.

First Time Cowboy Bodyguard by Engrid Eaves is a heartfelt, high-tension romance that pairs glittering fame with dusty boots—and proves that protection can mean far more than standing in front of a bullet.

Mia Love has been a pop star since she was a child, but at twenty-one, she still doesn’t own her own life. A controlling manager holds guardianship over her every move, her estranged parents add layers of security she never asked for, and autonomy feels like a distant dream. When danger strikes mid-performance and gunshots ring out, it’s Maverick Holt—the gruff, barely-speaking ex-rodeo legend—who tackles her to the floor and becomes the only person she trusts.

Maverick is all restraint and silence, a man who believes his best days are behind him. The fame and adrenaline of rodeo life are gone, leaving behind a guarded cowboy convinced his heart checked out along with his career. Assigned as Mia’s bodyguard, he expects to do the job and keep his distance. What he doesn’t expect is a young woman who sees past the walls, asks the hard questions, and refuses to be pushed aside.

The push-and-pull between Mia and Maverick is where this story truly shines. She’s open, curious, and aching to reclaim the person she was before the world monetized her childhood. He’s closed off, stubborn, and convinced he has nothing left to give. Watching Mia slowly worm her way into Maverick’s defenses—despite his resistance—is both tender and deeply satisfying.

What gives this romance real emotional weight is its honest look at the cost of early fame. The loss of choice, the manipulation, the question of whether someone so young can ever truly consent to the life built around them—it’s handled with care and empathy. Mia’s fight for independence doesn’t vanish overnight, and her happy ending feels earned because it includes growth, agency, and support rather than rescue alone.

First Time Cowboy Bodyguard is a sweet, protective, slow-burn romance filled with grumpy cowboy energy, forced proximity, and emotional healing. If you love strong heroines finding their voice, quiet heroes learning to open their hearts, and love that feels like safety after chaos, this one is absolutely worth the ride.

My own voice by MeemsAngel82

This was written well and an emotional journey that had me so empathetic for our h. This is a full read and expect a smooth story and a girl that has gone though so much and all by herself. Then he comes along, someone she feels safe with, a novelty for her. But he has his own turmoil and can't be everything for her, can he?

Ever since she was little, she had been taken advantage of as a singer and as a young girl. Her growing up has her caught in the same cycle, and with a breaking point somewhere soon...

This was handled we!l, someone who was trapped in a bad situation without the help of the two people who should have guided her in this world. She was taken advantage of, a trigger to some but our author did credit to this young woman. My heart was with her at the frustration and unfairness of it all. Our H had great chemistry with her but I did wish for more sensual scenes He was her safety but I also wanted more passion. Also I do wish some aspects were addressed, like a terrible incident with someone that had intended to harm her in her past. And her present, I would have liked to see her manager and her parents have a few more scenes with her because I feel those three are the ones that did her the most harm in her life. They influenced and controlled a lot so I wanted her to claim her power in a louder way. I also would have loved more memories of grandma and her plushies in her adult years because that was her only comfort as a child. This was a slow burn indeed and an emotional one. I loved her personality and his gruffness. And when her heart was stretching out for him I could have cried for her! I did want a epilogue and there is one available through email, I would have loved an included one because I wanted them to have more happy time as a couple after all of the unfairness.

Mia has been a pop star since childhood; she’s now twenty-one, but she can’t run her own life. Her manager—or tormenter, depending on your point of few—has complete control over where she goes, when she performs, what she sings. He has a guardianship over her, and it’s not doing her any favors.

Her estranged parents, supposedly worried about her security, adds an additional security company, full of cowboys. While Mia’s singing, danger is imminent, and Maverick, the newest guy, tackles her to the floor as gunshots ring out. Now trusting only Maverick, she’s rushed to Lone Star Security’s compound as things get sorted out.

This book has an interesting push and pull between Maverick and Mia. He’s missing the glory and fame of his rodeo days, and she’s missing the person she used to be, the kid who was forced into a lifestyle she never wanted, because people wanted to monetize her. For her part, Mia is pretty open, but Maverick is as tight as a drum, giving little away, barely speaking in full sentences. Of course, you know she’ll eventually worm her way inside his heart, even though he believes he no longer has said heart.

Still, she manages to get inside his defenses, and even then, he’s still putting up resistance. Good thing Mia is persistent.

This story shines a light on something that’s actually pretty common among teenage pop stars —there’s always someone else pulling the strings. Can someone that young be fully aware of their situation, especially with all the people surrounding them? It’s a miracle any teen pop stars make it out of their teens with their sanity intact.

Maverick and Mia do get their happy ending, of course, but it’s not an immediate process when she’s still fighting for her autonomy. She’ll get there, though, with Maverick by her side.

High Heat High Danger High stakes in this sweet protective slow burn emotional healing cowboy romance. Mia Love has been a pop star since she was a kid. She is now 21 years old and does not control one bit of her life. Her manager has a tight grip on her life to the point it is a little scary and her parents are there but have hired extra security for her which involve the Lone Star Security cowboys including newbie Maverick Holt.
One performance danger strikes midperformance and gunshots ring out. Its Maverick the gruff barely speaking cowboy who tackles her to the ground and saves her and becomes the one and only person she can trust. But will he be to guarded and closed off to let her in?
Mia is taken back to the Lone Star compound to figure things out and this is when the push and pull between her and Maverick really comes in. But at the same time Mia is trying to figure out who own mess of a life. Between her parents wanting to come back into her life, her manager not giving up on his evil role in her life and her trying to claim back who she really is, is there room for Maverick in her life? Maverick is all restraint and silence and is expected to keep his distance but sometimes that is harder than it should be.
What will happen between these two when the truth works itself out?
One dangerous night will start a rollercoaster of events that neither one of them can walk away from.
Another amazing story from Engrid Eaves. High intense emotional romance with amazing characters who build throughout the story. Engaging from beginning to end definitely page turning. Recommend read.

Finding Love in the Midst of Mayhem -
The first time Mia and Maverick met was when he tackled her to the floor to keep her safe from a gunshot and this gave her the confidence to choose him to protect her. Maverick on the other hand was just doing his job, but his protective instincts kicked in after he spent time with her and found out about her life. However, Maverick had to try to balance his growing attraction for Mia and doing the job he was hired to do, which led to numerous disagreements.

Unfortunately, Maverick’s indecision led to Mia becoming disillusioned and ultimately nearly getting into more trouble. Maverick’s willpower finally broke when he realised he could no longer keep his feelings in check, which led to them not only crossing the boundaries of their relationship, but also working together to get her out of the situation she found herself in. As luck would have it, Maverick and Mia got the opportunity to not only be together, but they also got to live the life that she had always dreamt of living.

This was a truly mesmerising story about how the female character overcame her vulnerabilities to take back the control of her life with the support of strangers and find real love in the process. I was hooked on the story from the first page and actually had to read the final three chapters again because I was pleasantly surprised by how the story ended. If you only read one book this month, then I recommend you grab a copy of this thrilling book to read and you won’t be disappointed.

Imagine being handed the life everyone dreams of and wanting nothing more than to escape it. Mia Love is a chart-topping pop superstar, but beneath the lights and sold-out arenas, she’s desperate for silence, autonomy, and a chance to breathe. Unfortunately, her reality is controlled by a ruthless manager obsessed with profits and parents who signed her freedom away long ago. Even now that Mia is of age, her life isn’t her own. When a sudden security threat lands her in the care of Lone Star Security, Mia’s world collides with Maverick Holt, the gruff, no-nonsense ex-rodeo star who literally tackles her to safety when danger strikes. Maverick is all scars, silence, and simmering intensity, sidelined from the only life he knew by a career-ending injury. He doesn’t say much, but what he offers Mia is something she hasn’t felt in years: safety. Real, bone-deep safety. What starts as a temporary escape quickly turns into something more when Maverick becomes Mia’s personal protector. Despite her fame, Mia is refreshingly warm and open, and it’s impossible not to love how effortlessly she slips past Maverick’s defenses. He understands the cost of a life lived in the spotlight and helps her see that she’s worth far more than the role she’s been forced to play. The slow-burn tension between them is delicious, but what truly shines is Maverick’s unwavering support and quiet devotion. If grumpy cowboys, forced proximity, and swoon-worthy slow burns are your thing, saddle up—you’re going to love this one. 🤠🔥

This was my first time reading anything from this author and I wanted to love it so much as I love cowboys, love a possessive bodyguard, and I actually have a child in the entertainment space so I was eagerly waiting to see how that was portrayed. However, the book fell a little flat for me. That's not to say the storyline wasn't good I just felt it left some lingering questions and that the character romance developed way too quickly, I do know it is a fast paced novella, I just wish some other things had been explained better and she could have gone a little more in depth with some of the relationships of the side characters. I also feel there were some things that weren't really cleared up in the book and felt the ending got tied together way too quickly for the main characters knowing each other for such a short time. I think I would have loved the ending so much more had they really developed a relationship where that ending would make sense.

With that being said if you want a quick read about a cowboy bodyguard who protects a young singer it's a good book. There is yearning and crossing the boundaries of professionalism. It is also an age gap romance. The FMC also struggles to find her own voice and what she wants for her life, and she goes through hurdles to find her way, so if you like those things I would at least give the book a try! It is by no means a bad book I want to make that clear, I personally just wish it was a little more in depth! But for readers who want something super-fast paced and an easy read it will be right up your alley!

They may be opposites but they have more in common than they think

First Time Cowboy Bodyguard by Engrid Eaves is part of the multi-author A Lone Star Security Romance series. This is an opposites attract, bodyguard for pop star romance with action, danger, suspense, love, passion and more. The story is about Mia Love, who at twenty-one years old has been a pop star since she was much younger, and Maverick Holt, the newest member of the Lone Star Security company. When danger comes hunting Mia her family hires LSS to add another layer of protection for her. It is Maverick who is assigned to the job. Maverick is a former rodeo cowboy who was good at what he did and enjoyed the life but now left it all behind for something new. He definitely find it and more with Mia and she with him. They will grow close after he saves her and they end up back at the LSS compound deep in the heart of Texas.

First Time Cowboy Bodyguard by Engrid Eaves is the first title I've read by this author and I wasn't disappointed.
As a slow burn romance the plot and storyline is emotive and engaging especially with the main characters of Maverick, the grumpy former rodeo champion now bodyguard and, Mia, a pop superstar, constantly supervised and controlled by her agent, coming together after circumstances require the services of Lone Star Security.
Due to the forced proximity of protection Maverick and Mia form a tentative bond and Mia has the chance to evaluate her life and with help and support starts to find herself and what she wants.
It was well written and you feel invested in a HEA outcome for them whilst they fight the attraction and inevitable resulting sizzling chemistry.

First Time Cowboy Bodyguard is a winner by Engrid Eaves. This small-town, bodyguard, cowboy, suspenseful romance is well-written. It pulled me in from the start and kept me engaged throughout. Mia and Maverick have a slow-burn chemistry that sparks from their bantering and close proximity. As they meet the challenges and some twists thrown their way through expectations and work, they journey to find their happy ever after. I loved how connected they became in their friendship/relationship. First Time Cowboy Bodyguard is part of the A Lone Star Security Romance series and worth the read.

First Time Cowboy Bodyguard is a fantastic book by Engrid.

Maverick has taken on his first Bodyguard gig, protecting a young pop star, although there is more to the story than is first thought.

I really enjoyed it, although I cant help but feel a little disappointed. I definitely thought there was going to be a twist or some drama in there along the way, especially with how the storyline was developing. Although, I did still enjoy it as is.

Maverick had to quit rodeo due to an injury, he misses the high he would get from the crowd, now he is working as a bodyguard. Mia is his first client, she is a very sad celebrity who has not been allowed to make a single decision for herself, her life has been controlled by her agent since she was a teen. After an attempt on her life, she is being protected by Lone Star Security, and slowly she and Maverick form a bond. It comes to light how she has been medicated and controlled and with a little help she is able to gain some control. I feel the ending was a little rushed and I would have liked to know more about why Mia's parents gave up their parental rights to the manager, but a great story.

First Time Cowboy Bodyguard overflows with emotion, passion and chemistry. From the moment these two meet, Mia finally feels safe and Maverick feels protective of her in a way that is not about being on duty. There is plenty of drama to have you on the edge of your seat but it is the emotion that overflows that steals your heart. A fast read, slow burn but this one definitely hits the right spot.

Mia is only seen as a pop star, a moneymaker, but what she really wants to be seen as is a woman. She wants to be heard. And the only man she trusts is Maverick Holt. Only Maverick doesn't want to cross boundaries, but he can't resist. He tries to keep a distance between them. But the more he finds out about Mia, the more he wants to help her. If you love slow romance book this is highly recommended for you!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I liked how Mia finally takes control of her life after a shooting at her concert. She only trusts Maverick. They fall for each other while under sole protection. They have to separate when Mia is offered the help she needs to break Crowe's hold. I liked that she kept proof that was needed. I'm glad Maverick and Mia can be together in the end.

A young pop star and an older cowboy. A bit of a challenge. The characters are well described. There a several differences as well as some similarities between the main characters. There is a storyline that is easy to follow and has some twists built in. The slow burn is definitely present if not a little slow. It ends with all the loose ends pretty much tied into a nice bow and towards roping a HEA.

I really enjoyed this story. I couldn’t put it down. I loved the interactions between Maverick and Mia. Mia is a pop star who just wants someone to see her as more than a paycheck. She has a stalker who is threatening her. Maverick is reinventing himself after his career ended. He sees something in her and is determined to keep her safe. Will they find love together?

This book was just okay. I am usually a huge fan of Engrid, but this book was disappointing. There was a lot of speaking in hypotheticals. I liked the ending of the book, but there wasn’t an answer to who the shooter was and why.

Holy slow burn!

Seriously, sometimes the slow burn is everything! It's hard to be still and silent and wait sometimes. Harder than people realize. But sometimes the slow, silent wait makes the results so much better!
