Sapphic scrooge meets her match in this omegaverse office romance novella!
Dessi Nayak adores everything about the holidays. Her boss, however? Not so much.
When Aiven Burns forces her employees to work until midnight on the eve of the Winter Solstice, sparks fly between her and Dessi—and not in a good way.
As snow falls and deadlines loom at the Mystic Distillery, can Dessi change her boss' heart with a little holiday magick?
If hallmark was cooler, they’d make something like this. Aiven was such the ice queen boss; inflexible, unsmiling, and a workaholic. Dessi was her opposite in almost every way; cheerful, compassionate to a fault, but not a pushover. They both admired things about the other, though neither was good at expressing that until muuuucccchhhhh later. We get some hot AF spice, banter, and, of course, some thawing of the ice queen.
I don’t have a lot of experience with Omegaverse, so I wasn’t 100% sure what to expect. That being said, I didn’t feel out of the loop one bit, which is also saying something as sometimes with novellas it can feel that way, as its limited on the amount of information you can get. But I felt instantly immersed in the world and was hooked from the get go! I read this in one sitting. I definitely would like to read more Omegaverse in the future and particularly some written by Lily! Definitely recommend if you want a short spicy sapphic Omegaverse Xmas read!
This novella is written in first person with 2x POV’s. Part of the Lez The Halls series. Omegaverse, Office Romance, Boss/Assistant, Age Gap (14 years). 1 main spicy scene.
lily x 🤝🏽 a spicy sapphic AO omegaverse romance. i find novellas & shorts can be so awkwardly paced & was a bit worried because i've only read her longer love stories, but i shouldn't have doubted her! aiven & dessi's story left me feeling so satiated! i would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys sapphic christmassy romantic shorts with tropes like grumpy/sunshine, boss/employee, a light bdsm dynamic & age gap!
This was awesome. Its short so there isn’t a lot here, but I am very happy with what we got in the pages that were available. This was a lot of fun, and spicy. Basically perfect for a short little spicy novella.
I also really enjoyed the blend of a magical witchy world of potions blended with mass-production capitalism. It added a little something extra!
4.2 ⭐️ I need to thank this book for finally making me feel festive. Lily truly never disappoints. Sometimes you just need some sapphic omegaverse for the season.
I usually find novellas pretty hit and miss pacing wise and usually they’re a miss. This does read a bit isnta-love wise because of the page confines, but I think the pacing was handled brilliantly.
If you like smut this is pretty spicy and has a lot of omegaverse tropes. The MC is also so icy (and I’m truly weak for an ice Queen).
If you’re looking for a short festive read I’d highly recommend it, but you do need to love ice queens going into this.
Rep// BIPOC Sapphic MC, Sapphic MC. Central romance is Sapphic / WLW. Age gap of 15 years.
TWs listed below, please skip if you don’t want vague spoilers.
TW// age gap (15 years), sex on page, employee/boss relationship.
Almost bit my tongue off because of these two 🥵 😂 happy Solstice and happy reading indeed. It’s a crying shame we couldn’t get 300 pages of these MCs- I’m certain it wouldnt have been difficult.
She did it again! Another spicy, heartfelt, delicious sapphic omegaverse story from Lily X. Perfect for the holidays (duh) and just an all around fun little romp.
Aiven really lived up to the book title being a grumpy boss that makes the office workers tremble whilst in her presence, but broodiness all starts to dissipate as the precious Dessi manages to defrost Aiven’s heart with her kindness, defiance and honesty.
A cute smutty sapphic novella to enjoy in one sitting with a steamy hot mug of tea. 🔥
Tropes: Age gap Omega & Alpha Sapphic AO Boss Office romance
4.5 stars. Enemies to lovers, office romance AND it’s omegaverse?? Lily X thank you so much for this gift. I appreciate it. I thought this was so much fun. The banter and bickering between Dessi and Aiven was so good and I loved their chemistry. They aren’t the lovey-dovey type of people and it worked for them and I liked that a lot. The spice was fantastic and so sexy and I loved the ending. I honestly wish this had been a full length novel because I want more of these two. I had so much fun with this and thought it was so cute and spicy.
Lily X. always delivers. This was a short fun spicy read. I love the ease in which the story goes through and it gave me some seasonal mood, which is weird for me.
Consider me the president of the Dessi Nayak fan club!
In this Christmassy omegaverse novella, Dessi Nayak (an omega) is the assistant to Scrooge-like boss, Aiven Burns (an alpha). Standing up too many times for fellow employees at The Distillery lands Dessi in hot water, but she’s not deterred from taming her cold-hearted boss.
The characters in this are an absolute blast. I liked switching between the POVs—while Aiven does seem strict, her justifications for the way she acts are realistic for her character, and both MCs are complex in delightfully contrasting ways.
The extreme tension between Dessi and Aiven carries right from the office to the bedroom. The buildup between the two makes their spicy scenes even hotter, and age gap, hot-for-boss fans have a 15-year gap to look forward to here.
Maybe we don’t need three ghosts to visit us this Christmas—we just need Dessi Nayak. And if you’re iffy on omegaverse, let this be the holiday read that wins you over.
Grumpy x Sunshine, OV and sapphic? You bet I ate this up. Perfectly paced for such a short novella. Love the world Lily X has created, and definitely keen to read more books.
I honestly can say as a story this is a short good book but I find it hard to understand the sapphic omegaverse actually being FF its to close to FM. That is my opinion though and it is still a good bood with an awesome ending
This one was such a huge letdown for me especially since I have read from this author before and adored it. Burnzilla was honestly more than just an unlikeable alpha ice queen. There were absolutely no redeemable qualities about her so when her relationship with her secretary turns spicy, I was rooting for the other FMC to walk away. She was better off. Also this may be more of a me thing but this is the first time I’ve read an omegaverse story where the female alpha had a phallus. I know with omegaverse, authors often take their own liberties with how the anatomy works, but this was jarring for me. I wish there had been some content warnings at the beginning.
I didn’t *love* this. I was really into the other books in the Lez the Hall series and this was my last read. I felt like the type of story maybe just wasn’t for me. I’ve never read books in the Omegaverse and actually had to google the meaning 🙈 Don’t judge me. This was totally out of my comfort zone. I think reading it, I now know, I probably wouldn’t read another one again. I felt uncomfortable a few times throughout the book. This book was the only one in the Lez the Halls series that didn’t have a content warning. I would’ve skipped it, if I knew better. I’m not a typical DNF person, but came close with this one. Super spicy, and very low plot - if you like this type of romance fiction, it’s perfect for you! Not someone to yuck someone’s yum, but it’s not for me. ⭐️ 2/5 🔥 4.5/5
this book really is what it presents itself to be: a sapphic, omegaverse smut-filled book. the quick and dirty of this book is that it’s half smut, and while it has a promising start, its short length ultimately left me unsatisfied. But, if you’re here for the sex and girl cock, it’s perfect for that! 2.5 stars from me!
Let’s start with the characters: Alpha hole boss woman Aiven Burns is a workaholic, mean, bitchy, ice queen that has a saint for an assistant and doesn’t appreciate her. Dessi is the assistant, and she stands up to the boss and consoles the workers when they get chewed up by Aiven for not “working hard enough”. As a premise, I love any combination of grumpy/sunshine, so I really thought this pairing would be like catnip to me. And to be honest, it would’ve been fine if the first two chapters weren’t dedicated to showing how much Aiven Burns sucks. Not just as a boss, but as a person.
And look, I LOVE a messy and damaged and shitty girl. When it works, it works. But unfortunately, this book just suffers from a lack of length, and I feel like there was too much emphasis on her corporate greed and how she’s running everyone into the ground because god forbid they’re taxed too heavily. I can understand how this creates conflict and creates an unlikable character that has to grow. She just doesn’t. It feels a little too much like the power of Dessi’s pussy made her stop being such a capitalistic bitch, and she only gives the factory workers the day off so she can go home and fuck Dessi. There really is something about it that rubs me the wrong way, and the more I think about it, the more it annoys me.
Because if I’m being honest, Aiven didn’t grovel nearly enough. She’s treated Dessi like absolute garbage for THREE YEARS, and all of a sudden, after they fuck, she’s waxing poetically about how Dessi is the warmth she desperately needed and always looks to and that everything would fall apart without her. It feels disingenuous for this realization to come after the smut, in my opinion. I would’ve preferred, personally, for more accountability and maybe a sub-Alpha to subvert the stereotype? But hey, that’s just my personal preference.
As for the sex, it’s well-written and I didn’t get the ick, which gives this book a full star and a half! There isn’t anything groundbreaking if you’ve read omegaverse smut before, but if this is your first, hold on tight, spidermonkey! I think I just didn’t feel connected enough to the characters to feel like it’s properly hot, and I wasn’t giggling and kicking my feet. There is a lot of good material, it’s just strangled by how short it is. (Which, yes, I do know is the point. When will I learn my lesson and stop reading purposefully short books?) But I’ve said it many times, and I will continue to say it: novellas are hard as fuck to pull off, and to me, this didn’t wow me. It held my attention and was true to its word, sapphic and spicy. But if you’re looking for in-depth character arcs, pick something else. I’ll probably read something longer from this author because I do think I could be invested if just given more time. But ultimately, the prose isn’t snappy or sharp enough to hold its own under the weight of the ideas.
(Also, this is SUCH a nitpicky aside, but if the whole “alpha’s voice and pheromones make it impossible for an omega to disobey a command” icks you out, definitely skip this one. It’s subtle and is thinner in execution than I’ve seen before, but it is definitely a hard no for me. In my opinion, it DOES NOT veer into dubcon/noncon, but it is absolutely a turnoff for me. The consent is always there, and Dessi is an active and enthusiastic participant, but the idea of it, especially when I don’t buy this love story in particular? It left a bad taste in my mouth.)(This is why I rounded down a 2.5 star to a 2 instead of 3.)
Summary: Dessi Nayak truly deserves to be secretary of the year, but her boss, Aiven Burns, is far too busy running her company with an iron fist to ever notice. When Dessi steps up to cover for another employee, she unexpectedly finds herself on the receiving end of her boss’s legendary wrath. With the holiday pressure mounting, will she manage to keep her job, or will she find herself unemployed and alone on the Winter Solstice?
What I Loved: First off, this is an omegaverse story, and that automatically makes it worth my time. Having done my time in the Teen Wolf fandom, I crave a well-done extra spicy omegaverse. The way this story is written is beautiful and, honestly, really high-heat. I always love a good boss/secretary dynamic, especially when the boss is super uptight and no-nonsense while the secretary is the only one who can melt their heart and make it grow three sizes.
While it takes a second to build up to the spice, once you get there, the chemistry is totally on fire. So just push through that initial tension! I thought the length of the novella was perfect for the pacing, and the ending had me laughing and kicking my feet in the best way. Honestly, this is exactly what every lesbian romance reader who enjoys a spicy holiday tale needs in their life.
This Book Is Great For: People who think Scrooge could have been fixed a different way. Readers who want a festive romance with a bit of an edge. Fans of the omegaverse and the "Ice Queen" boss archetype.
Stars: 5 Stars Format: Digital Series: Lez the Halls Book 5 Steam Level: Steamy
I saw this collection advertised in one of the many author mailing lists I subscribe to and it sounded like it would be loads of fun. I love these types of short story collections since they have a low bar of entry to try new to you authors.
I really enjoyed this collection because none of these stories are connected; you have the option of just picking up one story and/or reread your favorite one.
CW: this is the type of Omegaverse book we’re the women Alphas have dangly bits between their legs (only giving a heads up because I know that is a hard no for some readers)
Quick Thoughts: - I understand that this universe is incidental to the story but I’d still like to learn more about it - Aiven is the iciest of icy Ice Queen to ever ice - Part of me really wanted Dessi to really to go off on Aiven and make her suffer - Ho…ly… smokes. The sex was smoking hot. Like. Really really hot - I always giggle at that “get it out of our system” trope because that always works - This is the kind of possessive Alpha that I enjoy reading - For such a spicy book the ending was very RomCom feeling and it somehow worked
Overall I hands down loved this book. This is exactly the kind of sapphic Omegaverse stories I love reading and usually can only reliably find in fanfiction. I’m so bummed I’m in my holiday reading for December, I’ll have to devour one of Lily X’s books in January.
Okay sapphic romance lovers, if you’ve ever wondered what would happen if The Devil Wears Prada collided with an omegaverse holiday romance, this little novella is your answer 😜
Aiven Burns is the definition of a frosty alpha boss. She is organised, unyielding, and definitely not in the mood for carols or cocoa. Enter Dessi Nayak, her endlessly cheerful assistant who thinks the Winter Solstice is basically sacred. When Aiven makes the team work late on the eve of the holiday, Dessi’s determination to sprinkle some magic (and a little rebellion) into the night melts more than just ice 🧊
While I did wish for more emotional layering (and maybe a slower burn 🔥 ), it is still a charming little story about warmth winning over coldness, both literally and figuratively.
Perfect for readers who love: 💋 sapphic omegaverse dynamics 🌲 holiday settings with magic and snow 🔥 boss/employee tension 💖 cozy-spicy short reads
Save this one for your December reading list, it is a bite-sized dose of festive sapphic joy. 🌨️✨
Thank you so much to @lilyxbooks and @theberryagency for sending me a digital copy to review 🙏🏻
I typically love Lily X's stories but I had to stop halfway through. The beginning portion where we're introduced to the characters and the world is great. A little over 40 pages in though... While I felt tension on Aivan's part, I didn't see nor feel it from Dessi. So the sudden proposition from Dessi felt jarring and bizarre.
I also wished Age Gap was mentioned somewhere either in the book or summary. It's something I would've liked to avoid had I known. I know it's a short erotica story, but the 1st portion didn't match the 2nd for me. Age Gap, especially with boss/employee wasn't for me.
Lily X writes excellent spice though, so if these tropes are your thing on top of omegaverse dynamics, you'll enjoy! One of the rare lesbian omegaverse writers that give female alphas this deserved equipment.
One small note, I read this with Kindle Unlimited. I missed the picture in the beginning until I scrolled back to see if I'd missed a CW for the age gap trope. While it was a lovely pinup picture of Dessi, I wish the characters, especially her, were better described. I don't believe in avoiding mentioning race/ethnic of characters, but if the authors MUST: features, skin tone, hair, height and shape would be nice to know.
