I was lucky enough to be contacted by the author, Sheyma Ben, and given the opportunity to read her novel (thank you so much, Sheyma!). I went in with an open mind, and after reading the opening quote — “Every problem has a group chat solution” — I knew I was going to love this book. (I HIGHLY resonate with this sentiment — I refer to my friends as the “high council” because very important life decisions are made with these ladies!)
Crowned & Unbothered centers around six friends — Brooke, Andrea, Allison, Ivy, Lily, and Vanessa — navigating the highs and lows of motherhood, friendship, and rediscovering themselves as women beyond their roles as mothers and partners. Their journeys are heartfelt, messy, and full of moments that make you laugh, cry, and nod along in understanding.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Although I am not a mother, I am a daughter and have seen the sacrifices my mother has made. Sheyma wrote this story in such a relatable and heartfelt way that I found bits of myself in several of the characters and their struggles.
If you’re looking for a feel-good, empowering read about friendship, resilience, and finding joy in the chaos of life, Crowned & Unbothered is the perfect pick. I am already eagerly anticipating the sequel, Uncrowned & Unfiltered, with so much excitement!
Crowned and Unbothered by Sheyma Ben is a delightful read. I can’t imagine living life like that—says someone who’s a humble peasant and usually very bothered. But hey, I’m not jealous! That’s what we love about books, after all: they let us peek into someone else’s life and story. All good. The story doesn’t really have a traditional plot. It’s about a group of women and their social circle—gossiping, spying on each other, and gradually spiraling into chaos. It’s quite funny to watch how they behave as things unravel. Between group chats, brunches, and endless glasses of wine, these friends get tangled in secrets, betrayal, and life crises. And then… just like that—Let’s go to Paris! By the end, several revelations give the story deeper context—was it really a “crowned and unbothered” life after all? The book kept me engaged right until the last page, and if you’re a fan of Sex and the City, you’ll absolutely love it!
