What did I just read? This was very much un needed, waste of my time. Could’ve been an email.

Is this part of the same series that I loved and adored? Cause I refuse to believe it. This was absolutely boring and a chore to get through tbh. How did I go from loving the last one to not being able to stand this one?
1. It wasn't needed, not when it ended absolutely perfectly in Fearless. This was simply a waste of time. If Lauren Roberts wanted to write this, she should have waited a year or two to release this given how Kai and Pae's story ended flawlessly. This was too soon.
2. The way this one is written is absolutely bland. It reads like there are no emotions and in a way I get it from Death's perspective. But, my word, give me something to work with.
3. This sort of makes the Azer brother's last moments in Fearless, look meaningless. I see what Lauren tried to do at the end of this one, it's sort of leaving a door open to potentially more books and also not wanting to take a risk. Although, a calculative move... IT IS NOT NEEDED!!!
My dear beloved authors, when you finish a series, LET IT STAY FINISHED!!!!!

I reallyyyyy enjoyed this novella!!! This book introduces a new character: Mara. Mara is literally death itself and I thought that was SO COOL! We see the plot and characters through death's eyes and I loved learning about Mara's personality as well. I'd honestly read a whole book about Mara.
Also!! We got to follow two side characters in this book as well and I lovedddd their plot. It gave me so much more insight into their motivations and thier side of the story.
And lastly, we follow a main character as well which I still feel mixed on but it once great to also learn more of their side.
My only little complaint is I wanted a bit of a different ending but overall I really enjoyed this novella!! (which surprised me since it has such mixed reviews!)

i just spotted a typo in the title yall! let me fix it
the correct title is.... Fillerful . 200 pages of absolute nothing
a list of things i loved about the book
● the cover
list of things i hated
● this novella was supposed to give us insight into Kitt’s motivations and the true nature of the plague, but it was just a pointless look into lenny and BLAIR’s relationship
●just to be clear Blair should have died 2 books ago (lauren doesn’t know how to write villain arcs)
●why is death even a character? completely unnecessary and nonsensical
●MARA (a pointless character that spends the majority of the book stalking people)
●too many words and repetition (she has a way of dragging words around to make them feel epic)
●the disrespect to adena’s and maks character (LEAVE THEM ALONE bro💔 😭)
●i didn't care for Lenny and blairs middle school relationship
●the ending was so stupid and random, it completely ruined the emotional impact of the ending from Fearless.
● the bracket when mara was speaking was so annoying
●just when i thought i couldn’t hate kitt more i did (he spends the whole book whining )
●the epilogue was incredibly rushed. it felt confusing and incomplete. LIKE WHAT DO YOU MEAN KAI IS OLD ALREADY 😭 ?!
i adore some of the previous books in the series, but this book was simply not needed. it should have been summarized into 50 pages and added to Fearless as an extended epilogue or somthing, because the trilogy already ended so well already and this only added confusion.

I was shattered with his death from Fearless alone, I knew they were gonna twist the knife with this one 😪
But surprisingly I came out this book with more questions than answers 😩🫢😭
Mara (Death) was such an interesting character, this trope overall was INSANE and nothing like I’ve ever read before! For a while her and Kitt were pretty cute, the chemistry and tension was THERE, which I loooved.

I was shattered with his death from Fearless alone, I knew they were gonna twist the knife with this one 😪
But surprisingly I came out this book with more questions than answers 😩🫢😭
Mara (Death) was such an interesting character, this trope overall was INSANE and nothing like I’ve ever read before! For a while her and Kitt were pretty cute, the chemistry and tension was THERE, which I loooved.

🎀୭˚. ᵎᵎ I'm going to first say that this review is not going to be how I usually do my book reviews because of how much I have to say. I Honestly do not know how to even start a review on this book because of HOW MUCH I HATE IT. I don't know if this book was legitimately a joke or not. Because if Lauren seriously wrote this book, sent it to the publisher, had them look over this ENTIRE THING, then get the cover, get the book printed into a million copies, and bam it's in the shelf at your local Walmart...WITHOUT EVEN TAKING A SECOND THOUGHT TO THINK? Now that... THAT IS CONCERNING. 😶 Because not only is this book a delusional, concerning, ILLEGAL mess. I also would rather go and watch two hours of cocomelon then go and endure this piece of garbage EVER again. I am someone who loved the first Powerless book despite all the hateful reviews. It was the first fantasy book I ever read and I will always think that the first book has a special place in my heart. I ALSO LOVED THE NOVELLA THAT CAME AFTER IT! Because I think at a certain point in time Lauren loved to write and that was clear in those two books alone. HOWEVER. You know what they say, all good things come to an end. And in this case the fame and fortune happened and here she has printed hardcover evidence of it. Because from Reckless (aka the second book) to Fearless (The horrifying third book.) to THIS?! Everything spiraled, AND I MEAN EVERYTHING. And as I am writing this review I am trying to process the fact that this book has a creepy foreshadowing in the dialogue that so many people could just ignore and think is normal. BUT LET ME JUST SAY THIS. Nothing and I mean NOTHING about this book should be normal. It was disturbing, weird, and let me say UNCOMFORTABLE as someone who is a teen and that read this disaster. And if you think I am being dramatic when I say this (Or are a die hard Lauren Roberts fan that tries to justify what she does) I have evidence to back up everything I say.
🎀୭˚. ᵎᵎ Originally, this story was supposed to be about Mara (Who is death personified. Don't ask me why we needed this.) and her supposedly falling in love with Kitt. Because, OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WE JUST HAD TO HAVE ANOTHER FREAKING BOOK TO MAKE MONEY OFF OF. I am seriously starting to believe Lauren has too many bills to pay or is in debt because we did not even NEED this book to begin with. Anyways, getting back on track with the "plot" that was nonexistent, we were supposed to learn more about Mara as a character in this book and have sort of a forbidden love story. And you know what? I had some hope. I thought that maybe this was going to be a little side plot/story that gave Kitt a happy ending and leave us all satisfied. BUT OF COURSE, LAUREN IS PETTY AND THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN. I think it actually was worse than I expected in so many ways.
🎀୭˚. ᵎᵎ I'm going to first start off with something that isn't as bad and we will work our way up as we go. And that being the whole freaking LOVE STORY that this book was advertised as. Because 80% of this book was our character "Death" spying on other side characters aka Lenny and Blair's little relationship. And you know what I thought of that? I think Lauren was trying to recreate the entire Powerful novella again but in a different font. Because from their banter, to their relationship, EVERYTHING FELT REUSED. I was not even invested in it because this was NOT the love story this book was advertised as. Were Lenny and Blair a cute couple? Yes. Do I care if they were a cute couple? No. Because I did not buy this book and read it FOR. THEM. And when we have our main character that this story is about feeling more like a side character as the story goes on, that's where I have a problem. Also dare I say this book was just a repeat of Fearless but in a different POV?? HALF OF THIS BOOK IS REUSED MATERIEL!! BRO IS LAUREN JUST PRO RECYCLING??? It just goes even more downhill.
Now when Kitt and Mara interact... I have to say it was dry, lifeless, and rushed. Not only because I could not even picture them together with the lack of scenes they got, BUT BECAUSE KITT. WAS. FUCKING. IN. LOVE. WITH. HIS. BROTHER. 😃

Not only do these hardly make ANY sense. (Someone hire an editor because with all the money Lauren makes she apparently can't get one.🤑) But I am sure you get the Idea. Kitt was BEYOND obsessed with his brother Kai in this book that it was unsettling and creepy the things he would say. I understand the matter of loving your sibling but if you read these, It seems much much more than that. It was STRANGE. WEIRD. AND CREEPY. And I did not like it nor will I tolerate this. But if you think that is all of it... oh hun you are in for a treat. Because not only is Kitt creepy. MARA FREAKING IS TOO.

(When in reality he is just fucking obsessed with his brother.) He eventually still dies and becomes the king of death regardless which makes ZERO sense to me because we didn't even get any explanation as to why he became some emo overlord dead king. And on top of that his relationship with Mara just disappears as if there was nothing there to even begin with. NOW HERE IS WHERE IT GETS JUICY. Because in the book we have a time skip 5 years later where Mara (Death) visits the world again, (This story is hurting my brain.) She runs into Kai and Padeyn watching them from far...BUT THEY ARENT ALONE. They have a child now. Kit. As we learned in the Fearless book. So instead of Mara admiring from afar their happy ending. This is what we get. (This is a whole ass paragraph btw while the child is still a fucking minor.)

🎀୭˚. ᵎᵎ I'm going to first say that this review is not going to be how I usually do my book reviews because of how much I have to say. I Honestly do not know how to even start a review on this book because of HOW MUCH I HATE IT. I don't know if this book was legitimately a joke or not. Because if Lauren seriously wrote this book, sent it to the publisher, had them look over this ENTIRE THING, then get the cover, get the book printed into a million copies, and bam it's in the shelf at your local Walmart...WITHOUT EVEN TAKING A SECOND THOUGHT TO THINK? Now that... THAT IS CONCERNING. 😶 Because not only is this book a delusional, concerning, ILLEGAL mess. I also would rather go and watch two hours of cocomelon then go and endure this piece of garbage EVER again. I am someone who loved the first Powerless book despite all the hateful reviews. It was the first fantasy book I ever read and I will always think that the first book has a special place in my heart. I ALSO LOVED THE NOVELLA THAT CAME AFTER IT! Because I think at a certain point in time Lauren loved to write and that was clear in those two books alone. HOWEVER. You know what they say, all good things come to an end. And in this case the fame and fortune happened and here she has printed hardcover evidence of it. Because from Reckless (aka the second book) to Fearless (The horrifying third book.) to THIS?! Everything spiraled, AND I MEAN EVERYTHING. And as I am writing this review I am trying to process the fact that this book has a creepy foreshadowing in the dialogue that so many people could just ignore and think is normal. BUT LET ME JUST SAY THIS. Nothing and I mean NOTHING about this book should be normal. It was disturbing, weird, and let me say UNCOMFORTABLE as someone who is a teen and that read this disaster. And if you think I am being dramatic when I say this (Or are a die hard Lauren Roberts fan that tries to justify what she does) I have evidence to back up everything I say.
🎀୭˚. ᵎᵎ Originally, this story was supposed to be about Mara (Who is death personified. Don't ask me why we needed this.) and her supposedly falling in love with Kitt. Because, OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WE JUST HAD TO HAVE ANOTHER FREAKING BOOK TO MAKE MONEY OFF OF. I am seriously starting to believe Lauren has too many bills to pay or is in debt because we did not even NEED this book to begin with. Anyways, getting back on track with the "plot" that was nonexistent, we were supposed to learn more about Mara as a character in this book and have sort of a forbidden love story. And you know what? I had some hope. I thought that maybe this was going to be a little side plot/story that gave Kitt a happy ending and leave us all satisfied. BUT OF COURSE, LAUREN IS PETTY AND THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN. I think it actually was worse than I expected in so many ways.

Because 80% of this book was our character "Death" spying on other side characters aka Lenny and Blair's little relationship. And you know what I thought of that? I think Lauren was trying to recreate the entire Powerful novella again but in a different font. Because from their banter, to their relationship, EVERYTHING FELT REUSED. I was not even invested in it because this was NOT the love story this book was advertised as. Were Lenny and Blair a cute couple? Yes. Do I care if they were a cute couple? No. Because I did not buy this book and read it FOR. THEM. And when we have our main character that this story is about feeling more like a side character as the story goes on, that's where I have a problem. Also dare I say this book was just a repeat of Fearless but in a different POV?? HALF OF THIS BOOK IS REUSED MATERIEL!! BRO IS LAUREN JUST PRO RECYCLING??? It just goes even more downhill.
Now when Kitt and Mara interact... I have to say it was dry, lifeless, and rushed. Not only because I could not even picture them together with the lack of scenes they got, BUT BECAUSE KITT. WAS. FUCKING. IN. LOVE. WITH. HIS. BROTHER. 😃

okay wait…i’m so confused…😭 what just happened.
okay—so i didn’t HATE this, but i had high hopes for this book and it’s just so…what?! it’s so hard to even describe this book because it felt so much like filler.?
i was so excited to read this book because the idea of the afterlife seems so interesting because 1. it’s just such a cool concept that can be developed on and 2. we can see ADENA AND MAK!! sadly none of these happened because there was no adena&mak and the world was not developed on.
i actually think it’s CRUEL to give us such a cool character (Death) and not do anything with her!! why were ALL of her chapters either about kitt (which were like 3) and then the other 80% her spying on blair and lenny. why, just why? why even introduce a character like her and not do anything with it?!
and to go into kitt…i really came into this expecting to change my ENTIRE mindset on kitt and feel for him…but i might have just learned to dislike him EVEN more! all we learned from him was that he was depressive and that’s it. no new information, nothing. and somehow the ending was just even more boring!!
overall, its not a TERRIBLE book! the idea is actually quite beautiful and has alot of potential. my main issue was that i didn’t feel connected or care about the characters (kai and paedyn weren’t in this book if anyone was wondering) but if you LOVE kitt, or lenny&blair than you might love it!! definitely not necessary though.

unpopular opinion but i actually enjoyed this novella! while i do think it wasn’t entirely necessary and the beginning didn’t grab me right away, i appreciated experiencing the events of Fearless from kitt’s pov. i’ve never hated him and have always understood him—his ideology and how his upbringing shaped him—which is probably one of the reasons why this novella worked for me. that said, i still can’t get over his obsession with kai. it’s borderline incestuous, and i also have absolutely no idea why he thought consuming a dose of the plague was a good idea 💀😭

things were going well for the most part and i was genuinely invested, but then the ending took such a sudden turn and i was left upset. it explained what happened at the end of Fearless, but like why??? 🤦🏻♀️

No. Just no. I don't even have the words to even write a formal, long-form review on this, like I usually do with every other book I read. The only thing I can really say is that this was a complete waste of 2 hours of my life. Like, I stopped reading my other ARCs to pick this up since I thought this would answer some of my other questions I had lingering from Fearless, but I was left more confused finishing it vs. when I started it.
Like, I legitimately did not understand why this needed to be a novella in the first place because literally nothing was happening the entire time. Maybe it's my own fault for having different expectations going into reading this, but I don't understand why the novella focused more on the other side characters of the series (not going to mention names to avoid spoilers) when I figured this would be more about Kitt and understanding things from his point of view. For a novella that was supposed to be about Kitt, I'm pretty sure like, less than half of the novella (28 chapters plus an epilogue) was from his POV.
(Also, there were typos all over the book??? For example, there was one part of the story where Mara's called Mira and I thought it was someone totally different but it was just a typo...how no one caught this is beyond me.)
If you're on the fence of reading this...this is your sign to spare a couple hours of your life and use it to read something else. There's much better books you could be reading now.

What…why…oh my god.
This book is far from what I expected—in every single aspect. And it might just be my favorite in the series because of the sheer depth in it. This story was made for our morally grey, underrated characters.
Instead of a full-force romantasy like the rest of the trilogy, this book felt like a borderline existential crisis. It tackled insanely powerful themes—life, death, fate, hope, souls, humanity—in a way I wish we had more time to explore (who knows, maybe a spinoff?).
Death, Mara, was one of the most fascinating characters I’ve read in a long time. The personification of Death was done so uniquely, I was left in total awe. She is ruthless, she is brutal and blunt, she is an absolute DIVA. Between her job, her past, her perspective on living and dying, I kept forgetting if I was reading a character or staring at some cosmic truth. Mara might be one of my favorite characters in the Powerless trilogy despite being there for a short novella (though if you look back, she was indeed there the entire time).
Now the man of the hour: Kitt Azer. Every page he appeared on had me ready to bawl my eyes out. This story finally gave us an insight on where his head was at during Fearless and I am not sure whether to be happy, sad, or bash my head into a wall because I can't hold his hand. The humanity that was brought to Kitt was astonishing. This is how complexity is written.
Fearful left me FED. We got a beautiful love story that had me kicking and giggling and falling in love with a couple I never thought I would care about. We got Kitt finally showing off that signature Azer sweet tongue. I was crying happy tears for almost that entire book (which was so damn REFRESHING).
SO WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED IN THAT LAST 15%? CARE TO EXPLAIN PERHAPS?
I went from smiling → jaw dropped screaming → full-on bawling in a corner while rocking back and forth trying to understand what I just read. I am so angry. I think I stared at a wall for 10 minutes with tears streaming down my face from the utter shock.
Did I get closure? Was this a trap? Kitt?? Mara??? I don’t think I’ve processed it.
Do not even ask me about the epilogue. Lauren Roberts and her damn Kitt epilogues just trying to strip away any sense of sanity I have left. Thank the plagues I love pain because it was so damn phenomenal.
I feel like recommending this book is a crime because of the impact it left on me, which is exactly why you HAVE to read it. Kitt defenders, I am praying for you. Morally Grey has never looked so human.

I adored Powerless and Powerful, felt kinda meh about Reckless, and was honestly so disappointed by Fearless. So now… here we are with Fearful. I wasn’t expecting much, but I thought maybe—just maybe—I’d get some closure.

Not pure hatred, but enough irritation that by the end of the second book, I was entirely done with him; and by the end of Fearless? Completely unredeemable in my eyes. So naturally, I went into this novella thinking this will be the book that changes my mind, and I’ll finally understand him better, see things from his perspective, and actually grasp the reasoning behind his actions. Well, NONE of that happened.
ㅤ ㅤ✦ This novella was basically another blow to his character for me. If anything, it just cemented my dislike. Never in my life have I felt more like a book could have been an email. Truly, this could have easily been trimmed into a handful of POV chapters and spread throughout the last book. There was absolutely no reason for it to exist as a separate novella; it does not make you like Kitt, it does not make you understand him or his decisions...it does literally NOTHING.
ㅤ ㅤ✦ And then we have Mara. Don’t even get me started. Why on earth would you introduce a brand new character in a novella and then not even give her a serious role or purpose? Instead, she’s dragged in just to fuel a ridiculous, last-minute plot twist that felt completely pointless and, honestly, insulting. I was already done with Kitt, but this made me start an entirely new hate train towards Mara as well.
ㅤ ㅤ✦ The only saving grace? Lenny and Blair. I genuinely enjoyed their chapters. They were sweet, they added a touch of warmth, and they finally clarified some of the confusion I had about them in Fearless. If not for them, this would have been a solid 0.7-star read (if possible). Instead, it received one for Lenny and Blair and 0.7 because the prose was occasionally pretty, and there were a few quotes I actually liked. That’s it.
ㅤ ㅤ✦ Now, the epilogue. I hated it. Absolutely hated it!!!! After the ending of Fearless, you get the impression that Paedyn and Kai have finally earned some peace and happiness. But then this novella throws in a nonsense epilogue that makes it sound like Kai is doomed to eternal suffering because of Kitt. Why? Why would you do that? It doesn’t add depth, and it doesn’t add tragedy; it just taints their happy ending. And don’t even get me started on that last letter. Confusing, unnecessary, and the final nail in the coffin of my patience.
ㅤ ㅤ✦ Oh, and the brackets. What the hell is with all the brackets??? WHY?????
ㅤ ㅤ✦ To top it off, I honestly could not follow what was going on half the time. Maybe my attention span took a hit with this one, but I swear I could not make sense of it. By the end, I didn’t care anymore. And don’t ask me to reread that section with Mara, Kai's daughter, and Kitt (?) because I won’t. I still have no idea what that was supposed to mean. If any kind soul out there has the patience to untangle it, please, enlighten me, because I’m not going back.

Oh Lauren... WHY? Apart from the insights into what Kit was feeling & why he did what he did, I don't really see the point of this book. I actually believe this could have been incorporated into Fearless, perhaps in the last few chapters as flashback.. or something.

I’M ACTUALLY LOSING MY MIND 😭 like tell me HOW this is supposed to be from the same series I was obsessed with?? Because the next time if you tell me ‘Ohh you love the Powerless series’, I won’t even think about this disaster.
The whiplash is insane, I went from inhaling the last book, screaming, crying, throwing up, completely in love… to THIS?? A book so boring it felt like homework. A literal chore. I kept flipping pages waiting for the magic to kick in, waiting to feel even an ounce of the high the last one gave me, and nope. NOTHING. Just confusion, frustration, and me side-eyeing my Kindle like, is this really happening?? HOW did I go from loving the last one with my whole chest to barely being able to stand this one??? I feel scammed. I feel betrayed. I need a refund on my TIME. 😤
Ugh, honestly, I don’t even know where to start with this one, and that in itself says a lot. Normally, I can always find the words to write a proper review, break down my thoughts, and highlight at least a few things I liked, but with this book? I just can’t, no actually, I don’t want to. The truth is, it ended up being nothing more than a complete waste of my time, and I’m really frustrated about it. I even paused reading my other books ‘books I was actually excited for’ just to give this one a shot because I thought it might finally give me answers to the lingering questions I had from Fearless. Instead, I came out of it even more confused than I was going in.
I went into this expecting at least some clarity, or maybe even a fresh angle that would expand on what we already knew, but what I got instead felt hollow, like a filler chapter that didn’t serve any purpose. There were moments where I kept hoping things would pick up, where I thought maybe the answers would finally come, but by the time I reached the end, nothing had been resolved.

as someone who has been following the author since before the release of Powerless, i truly don’t know what to say about this. i was so excited for this to come out so we could delve deeper into kitt’s character and be introduced to a new and interesting fmc. as far as i was aware, this was supposed to be a romance between kitt and death, but i feel like i was misled. most of the romance plot was focused on other characters—in fact, i’d say that 60% of the book was dedicated to everyone but that ‘main’ romance.
i can’t tell if i’m underwhelmed because i expected more from this, or because it was actually underwhelming. i think i may have set myself up for failure slightly, because i adored Powerful and assumed that this would be of a similar vein. there were so many unanswered questions, and many things that i cannot see the significance of. i feel like this is more of a filler than an actual novella.
i’ll take a break from complaining for a minute and say that i certainly didn’t hate it. i was invested in the main four, and i actually really liked mara for the majority of the book. however, after finishing it, i’ve now come to the conclusion that i respect mara, i understand kitt, but i don’t love either of them. lenny and blair, however? *tee-hee.*
