For all of those love My Little Pony will absolutely adore this chapter book. It's a group of 5 girls who were chosen by a fairy to become the Wildflower Girls. Then it's off to Unitopia to save the unicorns' magic.
I also need to add that the illustrations were absolutely amazing. I can't think of a better illustrator for this book. It was the perfect combination.
I received this book through a goodreads giveaway. My review is voluntarily given, and my opinions are my own.

Growing up as a girl is difficult and is especially so when ‘traditionally feminine’ imagery, storylines, and characters are ridiculed in our current sociopolitical climate. Thus, The Wildflower Girls is a refreshing early chapter book that embraces and encourages the multiplicity of girlhood; emphasizing friendship and community, this new story is the start to a promising fantasy series.
I found it quite lovely that the author and illustrator start the book by addressing young readers with sweet affirmational messages and end by thoughtfully continuing them in the individual character profiles. The messages aren’t gendered and are rather about strength, kindness, and developing a positive connection between the characters and readers. Coming together to save unicorn magic in Unitopia, the Wildflower Girls build community with unicorns and recognize each other’s strengths to collectively solve this lighthearted mystery. I appreciated that the ‘villain’ (or culprit) was redeemable instead of condemnable, which models the power of communication and how to apologize; it’s crucial for children’s books to teach learning how to address mistakes rather than to discard people.
As a children’s literature scholar, my main suggestions regard pushing the representation of the characters of color further, as they currently lack cultural specificity. I love that the story is written from a young Black girl’s perspective, but without specific details about her identity embedded in the text, the story could have easily been framed or interpreted from a young White girl’s perspective. Similarly, Poppy’s Asian identity gets lost in the story as it also appears to start and end in the illustrations. I’m hoping the next books in the series further develop these girls’ intersectional identities.

We read The Wildflower Girls over spring break, and it ended up being one of those books that pulled all three of us in. My twins are just stepping into chapter books, and this was only our third one ...but they were hooked from the very beginning.
One of their favorite parts was the charm the fairy gives the girls for when they’re in trouble. My twins had so many ideas about what they would ring it for, and it turned into this adorable little game every night: “If we had the charm, we’d use it for…” It made the story feel interactive and magical in a way that only kids can pull off.
They also loved how each girl in the story had a different ability or talent. It reminded them of their own friend group — everyone different, everyone special, everyone bringing something to the table. And the book really highlights how working together makes the adventure possible. That message landed beautifully with them.
The pacing was perfect for first graders. Easy to follow, short chapters, and illustrations that kept them engaged without overwhelming the story. We got through it quickly, but not because it was simple — because they kept asking for “one more chapter.”
And the ending? They were thrilled. They’ve already decided they’re telling their teachers about it when they go back to school, which tells you everything you need to know about how much they enjoyed it.
A sweet, magical, teamwork‑filled chapter book that’s perfect for early readers , and for parents who love watching their kids fall deeper in love with stories.

The Wildflower girls are called by their fairy friend on a big mission to help the unicorns in Unitopia. They’ve suddenly started to lose their magic and only this special group of friends can help figure out the cause and help the unicorns.
What a beautiful book, I throughly enjoyed reading this, it was so magical and really lovely. It’s the perfect mystery fantasy book for children, you have a great group of friends who are all so different to each other but love that about each other. We have the magical element with the unicorns and the fairy. You have a fun mystery to solve along with the girls and then lastly the sweetness of the magical coming back as the problems are solved.
The grayscale illustrations were really beautiful, I loved seeing the girls showcasing their very own personalities. We got to see all the magic that was being talked about, the unicorns, the gnomes/gonks, I also loved the added touches on the pages showing the wildflowers which was really a perfect addition.
I always enjoy books of this nature, they have the sweetest characters that you meet and the truest friendship that is formed, not just with the friends but with the magical characters you meet along the way. This is going to be a very loved book by a lot of readers, it truly is a magical tale that gives you such a sweet adventure.

The Wildflower Girls: Quest to Save Unicorn Magic is a sweet and magical story filled with friendship, adventure, and a lovely message about believing in yourself and the people around you.
What I enjoyed most was the friendship between the girls. They are genuinely supportive of one another, and I loved seeing how their different personalities and abilities contribute to the group. Rather than having one character who can do everything, the story celebrates the fact that everyone has their own strengths and something valuable to bring to a friendship.
The magical elements make the story especially fun for younger readers. Between the unicorns, the adventure, and the quest itself, there is plenty to keep children entertained, while the themes of teamwork and encouraging your friends give the story a little more meaning beyond the fantasy.
I also really appreciated the way the book encourages girls to recognise their own talents and develop confidence in what they can do, without turning it into a competition. There is something very positive about seeing the characters build each other up and use their individual strengths to work towards the same goal.

When I was in elementary school, and even older, I didn't think I had any talents. My friends could sing, play the piano, put cute outfits together, run really fast or play sports really well.
I didn't think I was good at anything. As I got older, I started to think maybe I was good at writing. I loved it and won a couple of awards. But it still took time to really understand what I could contribute to the world.
As I got into my twenties and was going through college, I found I had a real gift for understanding and teaching children, especially those with special needs. I ended up getting a degree in special education.
This book is so thoughtful about girls finding their talents, interests and strengths to find joy in for themselves, and share with others!
There are beautiful and supportive friendships in this book. It's delightful and perfect for kids ages 5-10 years old that I hope encourages and inspires girls to learn about and build up their own talents and skills and support their friends in doing the same!
Highly recommend!

We read this with our two kids (ages 3 and 5) and it was a genuine hit with both of them. What struck me was how well it balanced accessibility, our 5-year-old was able to participate in the reading, while our 3-year-old stayed completely engaged in the story. That sweet spot is hard to find in early chapter books, and this one nails it.
What makes the book shine is its cast of friends. Each girl brings something different to the group, and the story shows that those differences are exactly what make them powerful together. It's a genuinely sweet message delivered through adventure rather than lecture, kids absorb it naturally as the plot unfolds.
The little illustrations are a lovely bonus, bringing the world to life. Thanks, NetGalley and MamaBear Books for the early read!
A delightful read for fans of friendship, fantasy, and a little bit of wonder. Highly recommended for early chapterbook readers.

The Wildflower Girls, Poppy, Sunny, Sprout, and Blossom, set off on an adventure to save the unicorn's magic! It's disappearing and no one knows why. Through teamwork and problem solving, the girls and the unicorns are able to uncover what's going on before it's too late.
This is the most charming children's chapter book! The girls are all so fully realized, and each of them will have kids who say, "she's like me!" My eight year old twins really love this story, and see shades of themselves in both Poppy (artistic and creative) and Sunny (bookish and thoughtful).
As a parent, I love the way the girls work together to solve their problem. They lean on each other and on each of their own individual strengths. No one girl is more valuable to their team than any other. I love the message that this book contains.
This is really a must for any reader getting into chapter books!

A nice, uber-positive chapter book, as four girls are whisked somehow to a land of unicorns and have to sort out why so many of the beasts are feeling their magic disappear. It's interesting that this is the first in the series and yet there's no back-story about how the girls met their bossy fairy and how they gained magic charms to summon them and BAMF them to the trouble zones. We just have to accept the disparate foursome as a gang of Charlie's Angels-types, all bringing their unique skills and platitudes to help those in need. Either way, this will land with young (probably female) readers who have a thing for unicorns – this is standard stuff and offers no real surprise, but is full of wonder and heart and colour and self-loving and friendship. Not the highest literature, but you cannot knock it.

This fun and playful story follows a group of friends, each with their own unique talents and interests. After meeting a fairy who gifts them a special charm that rings whenever there’s trouble, they officially become the Wildflower Girls (from a previous story).
In this adventure, the girls set out to discover why the unicorns are losing their magic. As they search for answers, they must work together, using their individual strengths to solve the mystery. Along the way, the story highlights an important message: everyone has something that makes them special.
A charming tale about friendship, teamwork, and embracing what makes you unique.

As a mom of two young girls and someone who hosts girls empowerment programs, I was especially excited to read this book!
I would definitely recommend this one for moms of girls, especially if your daughter is ready for her first chapter book. It’s fun, magical, captivating and full of themes like friendship, courage, teamwork, and believing in yourself. All themes that lead to great conversation openers/starters with your own kids!
My youngest daughter (5 years old) loves anything involving unicorns and rainbows, so this was immediately captivating for her! Such a sweet, fun read that I think so many girls will enjoy.

This was such a cute story about 4 best friends who go on an adventure to Unitopia to help bring the magic back to the unicorns! My 9 year old daughter read this story to me. She particularly loved the matching charm bracelets they all had that transported them. Her favorite character was Poppy who is an artist and loves to paint as much as she does! Also who doesn’t love unicorns!
Thank you to Ashley Wall and NetGalley for the ARC. My kids have also enjoyed reading these books and leaving reviews!

This charming, magical, sweet children's book is full of the kind of life lessons you'd want your sweet ones to learn early: the power of friendship and collaboration, the value of arts and sports and learning, the empowerment of creativity, and above all, how important it is to be true to yourself. The Wildflower Girls learn all of these things on their quest to save unicorn magic. Along the way, they make new friends and solve a mystery, bringing back the color and beauty of the unicorns' home.

This is a wonderful chapter book for kids that are old enough to read chapter books. The unique Wildflower Girls are off on a wonderful adventure to save the Unicorn's magic because it's disappearing. 1st they have to figure out why it's disappearing and then hopefully save it. Throughout the chapters the girls show how to put problem solving and teamwork into action so that they can figure out how to make things right and save the magic. A very charming book showing the girls they can accomplish anything.

My 7 year old daughter and I read this book together- a chapter each night. We enjoyed it so much! My daughter wants to read it again and again. I love how all of the characters were unique in their own way, and how they all helped work together to accomplish a quest! If your little girl LOVES unicorns and friendships, she will LOVE this book! 💖 Most important it helps your daughter understand the need to believe in yourself, which I believe is SUPER important. This is definitely a favorite!

Such a cute little story. It kept my 4 year old asking for ‘one more chapter!’. The characters were cute and we can’t wait to see where they end up next. This was a great starter chapter book. ‘I give it so many stars!’ says the 4 year old.
