Ash, an employee at the gym owned by the Lupo Mafia family, finds herself facing not only the threat of eviction, but also the mercy of her old boss, a Polish mobster named Marek. Chelsea Burton Dunn is a Kansas City native - the Missouri side not the Kansas side. That matters to locals. Where is that you might ask? Right, smack-dab in the middle of the country. She has two beautiful children and is married to a superb partner, but let’s not forget their snuggly cat and eager-eater of a dog.
Having always been a little strange herself, she instantly fell in love with paranormal, supernatural, and fantasy books, movies and tv shows as a child. Did everyone think it was a phase? Absolutely. Was it? Absolutely not. Being weird is a blessing, not a curse. She’s always embraced that part of herself and those around her.
She started writing from a very early age, initially starting and completing one of the Deadman’s Hand books in high school. She is a lover of music, having her other love and talent be for singing. She performed on main stage operas in the children’s chorus from grade school to high school.
Chelsea loves to delve into the difficulties of life, love, and loss, while spicing it up with a little magic and monsters. As she liked to say when she was younger, “the monsters in my head need to come out to play every once in a while,” so giving them life on the page seemed appropriate.

Chelsea Burton Dunn did it again—Unbridled Reign hit me right in the gut and didn’t let go. Ash has been one of those side characters I’ve quietly rooted for in the shadows, so finally getting her story felt like a reward. And wow, what a story it was. She’s tough, scrappy, and stubborn as hell, but that vulnerability simmering underneath? It made me love her even more.
The underground fighting ring had my pulse racing—I could feel every jab and bruise like I was in the ring with her. And when Sal and Adrian stepped in? Oh, that protective energy… let’s just say I was grinning, swooning, and holding my breath all at once. There’s a raw tenderness in the way they look after Ash, even when they’re angry with her, that made the spicy moments even hotter (and trust me, they’re HOT).
But what really stayed with me was the weight of choice. Ash had to decide where she truly belonged—alone, still fighting for scraps of safety, or with Sal, Adrian, and the Lupo family, where loyalty runs as deep as blood. That inner war felt so real.
This book doesn’t shy away from darkness—there are scenes that are brutal and gut-wrenching—but Dunn balances it with connection, resilience, and just enough stolen moments of intimacy to keep me hooked. By the end, I wasn’t just rooting for Ash to survive—I was rooting for her to finally claim her place and be loved the way she deserved.
Grit, passion, violence, love—it’s all here. And I’m still reeling from it.

Book 3 in the Dolce Obscurità series

This has definitely been my favorite book in the series. Life is never dull in this mafia world. I was absorbed right away by Ashley's mysterious background. Full of suspense, exciting action, and steamy romance with double the sexy men.

They just all fit together so well. Sal is the cool, calm, collected Italian while Adrian is the wild, hot Italian, and Ash with her BA tough girl attitude.
Ash, Sal, and Adrian pine hard for one another. The banter and spice between them was scorching. I love how their relationship developed and fell into place.

I love the Lupo and LaMartina family dynamics and getting glimpses of the couples from the previous books.

Tropes:
Mafia
Reverse Harem
FMM
Slow burn
Explicit
Friends to lovers
Forced proximity
Multiple POV

Check TW

This is the third book in this interconnected series, I recommend reading the first two books so you know what's happening in this mafia world.

Wow. She did it again with book 3! So much going on it’s gonna take me a minute to catch my breath.

This is a series, you have to read books 1 and 2 for this one to make sense. She references things you won’t understand if you don’t. Also certain behaviors won’t make sense. Also read the trigger warnings! This one doesn’t have as many but it is a mafia romance.

Ok so on to my review. This book was so beyond hot! If you’ve read any of my previous reviews you know I love a good mafia romance and this series is seriously spicy! The first two are traditional MF relationships, this one has a third and is too hot to handle. There is mfm, mmf and mm referenced.

We step back into the LaMartina and Lupo families with book 3, focusing on Sal, Adrian and Ash. Sal trying to warn the title of Capo from the big boss, Adrian as his second and bff since childhood and Ash the trainer at the gym they own. These three have been dancing around each other since the beginning of book 1. I had a feeling this was where it was going to go and it was so much better than I imagined.

Ashley was found fighting in an underground fight scene that Sal and Adrian were attending. They both immediately fell for this blue haired, sexy as sin, female fighter. After finding out she was under the thumb of a smaller family who was more a pain than a threat they paid her debt off and offered her a job at their gym.

Ash has always only had herself to take care of and worry about since her parents died. She didn’t have a great childhood and struggled. She is too independent for her own good and the boys find out she is fighting again because she needed money. To say they were pissed is an understatement. But can they convince her to be theirs to take care of, financially and in every other aspect?

Sal has always had to be strong as Capo in training. He has had to stuff his feelings down and think about his family first. But when he sees Ash all he wants is to take care of her, right after he spanks her behind for not coming to him for help. He can’t help the pull she has over him.

Adrian felt that pull with Ash the first time he ever saw her and has been fighting his feelings because he knows Sal wants her too and he refuses to take anything away from his best friend and boss. They have been through too much and mean too much to each other to have anyone come between them. Until one night, Sal asks him about having Ash between them and how he felt about it.

The boys make their feelings known and the three of them finally figure it out. Much to the enjoyment and poking of the family as nothing gets to be kept secret in this house.

But the throple isn’t the only relationship bubbling to the surface. And after talking about what they want to do to Ash the boys figure out that they both need each other just as much. Ash walking in on them figuring this out for the first time was so epically hot!

This story continues with the drama of the Irish mob interfering and trying to move in to take Carmen again as well as Carmen and Leo’s wedding, finally! Omg their vows, just killed me!

The dirt they finally dig up on the big boss was so much more than I ever thought it would be and I knew Sal would be Capo, just didn’t see it happening the way it did. Sorry for the vagueness but I don’t want to give anything away!

If you haven’t had the privilege of reading anything by Chelsie Burton Dunn. I highly suggest you run, not walk and pick up your copy of any of her books. They hook you in from the start and you can’t put them down!.

Chelsea really saved the best book for last.

THIS DAMN BOOK. It was one of those "hold my beer" moments. A lot of times after starting off really strong with the first 2 books of a trilogy, the last usually lacks compared to the others. But that wasn't the case. Without giving away a lot, she did something with Unbridled Reign that I have not seen in a mafia romance book EVER. And it was the throuple that really tied everything together and was the perfect puzzle piece to fit into the puzzle of this entire trilogy. Seeing them being unapologetically themselves and be accepted for it by their families was everything you could wish for and more. Ash was the perfect FMC for Adrian and Sal. She added a sass and feisty side that was EVERYTHING with this storyline. She didn't take crap from anyone and was always doing what was best for herself. I liked that Chelsea showed the storyline from all of their perspectives. You could feel what they were feeling and thinking in the moment, it really made this one amazing read. One thing I really enjoyed was the honesty in their storyline. They all went through so much individually in their own back history. That seeing them be in sync with one another, what they needed and being a perfect unit was PERFECT. It was a great way to end the trilogy. PS: the spice alone in this book was 5 CHILI PEPPERS. It was a HOT book for a reason!

Ash, Sal and Adrian....they were the storyline I'd been anticipating and chomped at the bit for! I had a feeling that there was more to the guys than met the eye, and the way things fell together felt natural. The spice...spicing. But it was the interactions they all had together and with the rest of the family that really had me turning the pages and devouring this last installment. I knew that Carmen was the key in the end, but it didn't take anything away from how everything played out, it was still exciting and dangerous. This little trio of mafia goodness is worth everything! I dare you to read them and not fall in love!.
