Dangerverse #1

Living With Danger

Rate this book
Lone wolf. Dream-seer. Bright child. Scarred child. Singer. Prisoner. Dancer child. Dragon child. Eight semi-ordinary people. One extraordinary family, and how they became one.
What if Harry Potter had not just father figures, but mother figures as well? What if he had siblings? And what about Hermione Granger, or Draco Malfoy? Would they have been different with a different family? What if Sirius Black had a girlfriend named Aletha, his fellow Beater and constant verbal sparring partner? And what if Remus Lupin, one gray March day about five months after his world fell apart, met a woman named Danger who knew things that would change his life forever?

Anne B. Walsh has been telling stories from the time she could talk, but it took her twenty years to realize she could make a living at it. She left her office job on a leap of faith two months before seeing a PBS special which changed her life. The resulting four-book series of historical fantasy romances is known collectively as the Chronicles of Glenscar (or will be, when it involves more than one book!).

Anne lives east of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with her roommate Krystal. They are owned by a pair of needy, and kneady, cats named Poppy and Sesame. Her parents and siblings live two hours north, otherwise known as just far enough away.

She has been writing Harry Potter fan fiction for almost eight years and is known best in that genre as the creator of the "Dangerverse" alternate universe. Beyond writing fiction, Anne's preoccupations include reading fiction; singing anywhere that will have her, including her church and local galas; theatre, especially musicals; all forms of cooking; and her family and friends.

Within writing fiction, her preoccupations are much the same, meaning most of her stories involve loving families, delicious food, and good music. Consider yourself warned.

A number of projects are awaiting Anne's attention now that she has completed her first original novel. Among these are the final novel-length work in the Dangerverse, "Surpassing Danger", and her first personal anthology, "Cat Tales", a collection of short fiction featuring cats and cat-like beings, including a short prequel to "A Widow in Waiting" and a story from her original Trycanta universe.

An articulate, well-crafted read, definitely for those who crave a good, rich story-line and three-dimensional characters. Fanfiction or not, it's a brilliant read, definitely worth the time it takes to read the fifty-or-so chapter epic.

This story is capable of bringing you to tears, having you clutching your sides as you laugh, and chatting wildly with other avid readers. The first in a quartet spanning the seven years at Hogwarts, and those before.

An intriguing AU that, despite being a fanfiction, is original and has spawned fanfictions ot its own!

An AU with a happy Remus is just a great thing, and I actually enjoyed the AU elements a lot. However, the writing is noticeably weak, far more conversation than needed. But still a pretty emotional experience and I'm actually shamelessly excited to read the sequel.

Quite naïve but nicely written - it's probably why I kept on reading it and finished. There were some logic gaps. Reminds me of HISHE videos sometimes. Author fixed problems of the series with one invincible OC. Not my kind of read. Not enough plot twists. Way too happy. I understand it's mostly a head-cannon vomit born from frustration of the books, it's a good exercise and I accept it for that.
Anne herself would probably laugh at this story now. Don't know how to rate this. It deserves some credit for style and layered plot even if naïve but I would not recommend it.

I highly recommend the Dangerverse both to people who love Harry Potter fanfiction and those who have never experienced it.

Anne takes characters we know, adds in characters we will learn to love, and spins an entirely new story so well crafted it feels both familiar and new and exciting.

The are no words to describe how much I enjoyed this book. I love the way in which Walsh took a familiar concept and turned it on its head with a few well placed original characters. This book captured my attention right from the start and I was very hard pressed to put it down. I really enjoyed how Walsh was able to keep the essence of Rowling's characters especially as this story is pre-Hogwarts and changes the circumstances of a few of the characters which does have a bit of an impact on their personality. Overall this was just an amazing book!!

Reread this story, it's been so long (probably 6 years). It's still amazing!

Very good Alternate Universe story. I enjoyed it almost as much as the story it was based on. Can't wait to read the next book!
