At the time of writing this review, I'm a little over two weeks post op for a right total knee replacement. I'm doing well, and I have to give some of the credit to this book. After finding out I needed surgery, I did what many patients often do...I went to Google to learn more about this procedure and what I should expect. There is soooooo much out there, and I learned pretty fast that much of it was conflicting and confusing. I first found "The Knee Zone" on YouTube, and after watching several of their videos, I liked the straightforward approach and advice that Ms. Braun and Dr. Sinha offered folks.
I decided to order the book and took to reading it a few weeks BEFORE my surgery, and that has been a big help...I know what to be prepared for, what to expect, and I wanted to hear from others who had successfully navigated this journey. I rarely annotate books, but let me tell you, my copy of this book has highlights and tape flags all over the place with helpful things I knew I might want to refer back to.
If you are approaching or even just considering total knee replacement, I think this book is a great investment to educate yourself beforehand, as well as how to proceed post op.
While I have had both knees done now, I still have friends who have not. My first knee surgery was in 2015, but the whole situation was different. Then almost 9 years later I had my second one done. I haven't got along as well. But now I have more medical issues and I'm almost 10 years older. But I wish I would've read this and followed suggestions and watched more YouTube exercises and did them! They say no two knees are the same... and in my case that was true. But there is hope and if I just Keep working through their suggested exercises and activities. I will eventually get there. They have some links to these throughout the book & I highly suggest you look them up and try them yourself.
As the years go by, many of us find the need to repair our knees—knee replacement is the most common orthopedic surgery in frequency and demand in the U.S.—because knee injuries and surgery are not exclusive to professional athletes or the retired. This book explains how to prepare and recover from knee replacement surgery while employed, with a busy family life, PETS, hobbies, and obligations. It was very insightful about all the time and effort before and after surgery so the best outcome can be achieved to get moving again! Knee Replacement Secrets is informative and quite entertaining at times! Much of the advice applies to preparation and recovery from other injuries, in fact, I am using a couple of secrets now to rehab an ankle injury. Highly recommend for anyone considering orthopedic surgery with an extended recovery time.
Such a great book to read. I started on the KU but then bought the book so I could highlight and make notes on the pages.
I just had my total knee replacement surgery on Monday May 18th and mine didn’t go as good as the book.
I have these enormous fracture blisters on both sides of my knee they are very painful. I wish the book would talk about the bad stuff that could happen. After going through what I went through and still have to go through I will not have my right knee done at all. This was the worst surgery I’ve ever had and I’ve had 7 since 2021.
The book makes everything happy and easy which is great to read before surgery but now after surgery. I would love to read about what happened to me. Not sugar coat it.
However, I am glad I read it, it did help me before surgery.
Knee replacement Secrets is a must-read for anyone preparing for or recovering from knee replacement surgery. Diana Braun breaks everything down in an easy-to-understand way, sharing tips and insights that made me feel much more confident about the process. I especially appreciated the practical advice on pain management and recovery. The book provided me with the support and encouragement that I needed. Highly recommend to patients and caregivers.
Very informative from first line participants, (patient and surgeon), giving vital information regarding the post op recovery phase of knee replacement. I’m thrilled to have found and completed this book prior to my scheduled procedure. I like the reference to items needed post op along with the Amazon link. This helped in deciding which items to purchase. Thank you
I discovered this book a little over months after receiving my knee implant. After reading it I dropped the meds I had been taking to help me sleep (AdvitPMs) and just wish my pretty good care team had been able to give me the knowledge i found here. I truly cannot recommend it hig
I’m only 39 and don’t need a knee replacement, but I still loved this book! It’s witty, wise, and surprisingly fun to read. Full of great stories, tips, and tricks—highly recommend for anyone facing knee replacement or supporting someone who is.
