Disappointed

So, the first thing that we learn in this book is so unbelievable that I am not able to suspend my disbelief. According to the premise Ben has not driven Val in TWO YEARS! Seriously? We are supposed to believe that the guy who's power is ' vehicle' puts his van in the garage for TWO YEARS!!!? Nope, can't do it.
Are we to believe that Ben is working 12-16 hour days? 7 days a week?. He never takes an afternoon off to visit friends, or have a pint at the inn that's a half hour away? Again nope, I don't buy it. And this premise colored my view of the rest of the book.
Not that the rest of the book was stellar.
Looks like there's going to be some political intrigue, rubs hands in anticipation. Nope! It all happens off screen. At the beginning and end of the book. Val's getting a personality? Sure but annoying enough that the story would have been better without. Interesting new friend? Not really, he's a murder hobo, and not an interesting one.
All in all a very disappointing book. I can't particularly recommend it. Tom out
