Cold Blockade

Rate this book
Spring/summer 1948: CIA agent John Sedo's greatest mission is about to begin in Peenemünde. The former rocket test-site holds the secrets of Hitler's V-2 program.

John must infiltrate the area and steal blueprints for weapons that could tip the balance of power. With only a cocky pilot at his side, he will outrun patrols, dodge searchlights and blow up a bunker in the heart of Red Army territory. The unlikely duo relies on strange alliances, even a former Luftwaffe Ace.

The Soviet Blockade of Berlin complicates matters and John navigates the Cold War chill to find a way to the German Baltic coast where no-one else can. Allison's MI6 father is missing in the mire of the German capital – rail-kid whispers hint at his fate.

While Berlin teeters, Allison Lakehill's stardom in Boston soars, mirrored by the threat to her life. Lose her, and John will be consumed by the dark passenger within. Neither can live without the other – the world may end up paying the price. John's shield her or keep the West safe.

A heist. A blockade. Allison.

I was born in Aalborg, Denmark in 1980 and am currently working as an airline captain for a large European carrier. My flying career began in 2006 and eventually took me to Berlin, Germany where I have lived since 2007 and still do.

I have had a dream of writing novels for well over twenty years, but it was only in 2023 that I finally went through with it. 'Cold Subterfuge'was the first in the series and 'Cold Redemption' the next.

The third novel in the series is expected in May/June 2025.

A cold-war mystery/romance set in 1948. In the front, the synopsis of the first two books in the series were helpful. This episode opens with his girlfriend’s father in disappearing in enemy territory because of a mole and a briefing on a delicate mission through a Soviet blockade to rescue Nazi rocket scientists/data that became instrumental in our own missile and space programs. Like any modern detective story, there are about three investigation threads going at once. Unfortunately, a lot of time is spent on dull walking, car rides, and stewardesses fawning over him. His behavior often shifts to that of Mr Clark, the wetwork specialist from Clancy’s series. He also gets to visit Q the gadget master for tools for the big job and assistance from Lieutenant Bubba Tater. Finish it off with a high-stakes escape and the door open for another sequel.

However, I spotted a lot of anachronisms:
Laughlin AFB closed in 1945 and didn’t reopen until 1952.
Nuke wasn’t a slang verb till 1962.
Langley wasn’t CIA HQ till 1961.
Men’s “hair gel” wasn’t invented until the 1960s.
US Rangers didn’t exist at Fort Benning until 1951.
Inspections for imported foreign cars didn’t happen until 1966.
The phrase Dark Passenger comes straight from the 2004 Dexter novel.
