Deep in the woods, a man's lifeless body is found hanging from a tree. As disturbing as the sight is, no one could have imagined where the trail would lead…
Detective Riley Quinn is no stranger to near-death experiences and danger. She answers the call to a baffling a decaying body and far too many unanswered questions.
Initially, forensics ruled the case a suicide. But soon, a substantial clue leads Riley to a different murder. As she navigates this case and the aftermath of surviving an inferno, she sets out to track down the culprit responsible for both cases. Unfortunately, nothing is ever simple.
With the shadowy figure who tried to kill her still at large, and this case taking an unprecedented turn, it's only a matter of time before the two roads collide and lead her down a deadlier path.
The truth is impossible to fathom, and Riley is prepared to serve a triple dose of justice. Death, decay, and a murderous heart. No one is ready for the aftermath of these cases.
Logan hopefully will get answers to his maternal family's history. Issac hopefully can recover and Mellie will get what she deserves. Something is wrong with her. Her selfishness and utter lack of compassion for her children is troubling. She should not be near Dani unless supervised. Can't wait until the next installment.
This seventh book in the series has Logan’s brother accused of being a serial killer based on hid DNA at all of the crime scenes. Riley and Logan grow closer.
as usual you are drawn in and need to keep reading
I have read the first 6 and you do need to start at the beginning because each book you are left a cliff hanger and want to find out what happens next. There are also some clues.
What is going on???? In this book, Riley has a new case to investigate as well as Isaac being accused of being a serial killer. nothing is as it seems though. Evidence says one thing but it can't possibly be the truth, in either case. Riley has a talent for figuring things out though. It takes all of them, Zelina while recuperating from her broken leg, Logan and his nurse, and a new officer is now joining the crime solving team. Mellie starts with her odd behaviour only adding more questions. Nothing is going to prepare you for the cliff hanger ending. I could not put this book down.
I have really become invested in this series and with each book I become more and more invested. As with previous books, this one has so many layers, and I love how the author connects all of the stories and cases so that you feel everything that’s going on and never feel like it’s disjointed. After the cliffhanger that was in book 6, I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next and I have a strong suspicion of what is truly going on with the Isaac aspect. I enjoyed that we are getting a little more history on the Elwood family, but I’m really missing the presence of Riley‘s family, which was a lot more prevalent in the earlier books. I was also pleased to see in this book that Zelina is more involved and we are getting to see things from her perspective.
We’re now in book seven and I feel like things between Logan and Riley really should progress already. I feel like that part of the series has just been dragged out a little bit and while I don’t expect them to be full on in some hot and heavy relationship, I would like to see them move their boundaries a little bit closer to being a couple and seeing how some of that plays out. Now for the difficult part on why this is the first book in the series I’ve rated a three. I felt like this book compared to the others was a little rushed. I found several instances where either words, actions, or phrases were repeated, and I felt like wait a minute didn’t I just read that exact version or close version of that a few sentences before? This particular book also had a lot more errors than the previous books and that left me feeling like the same amount of time and effort I’ve seen in previous books was not as prevalent in this book, and I felt with some of the repeated things that either it was being added as filler which is completely unnecessary with this series or somebody just didn’t take the extra time to thoroughly go over the book. So occasionally it took me out of the story because I found myself going back to see if I really did just read something close to that or if it was my mistake. That won’t stop me from reading the series or this author who I’ve come to enjoy and now I’m onto the next book.
These books just keep on chugging! This book felt to me like a filler book for the series, and I feel like this next book is going to crack this main case wide open. I do think the story line made sense, it kept me entertained, but it just progressed very slowly and there was just new developments that were added to the main case of this series. I still will be moving on and reading the next 2 when they come out!
Okay I don’t know why this author does not realize that some of us are unable to just leave the end of her books dangling like a trapeze artist who misses a step! And yet every time I fall for it. You know? ….that they live happily ever after? Pushing all the sorrow angst sadness death family-issues blood gore hatred aside to find the one book in a series that ends on a feel good? Well don’t have time to write any more because it is after midnight and I need to start Book 8!!
You don't want to miss the next chapter in the Riley Quinn series!
With Isaac's life hanging in the balance, Riley is trying to figure out how and why he's being charged as a serial killer. This causes Riley to look deeper into a recent case, much to her Sergeant's dismay. This one was a non-stop thrill ride from the first page!
just finished reading Betrayal in the Pines. Murder and mayhem in spades. I hope I can sleep tonight. Suspenseful with unexpected twists. Those detectives get themselves in so much danger. Love Riley Quinn, she follows her intuition.
This is a excellent story about Riley trying to find answers to two different cases and solving one and questions still remain for the other case about Logan’s brother and will they the answers with lots of suspense and action. Thank you for this awesome story.
Another gripping story in this series! With another jaw-dropping cliff hanger ending. A J Rivers is the the queen of the suspenseful series. I already can't wait for the next book.
A.J. Rivers leads us down pathways with her words and stories. Her endings are unpredictable and suspenseful! One door closes and the next one is open! On to the next installment! You won’t regret reading the Riley Quinn series.
Really enjoyed this book. It kept my interest from page 1, until the end. Logan is worried about Isaac and Riley has a new case that doesn't make sense. There's a lot of questions that needs answers, so I'm ready to read the next in the series.
I loved it! The Riley Quinn books are my favorite by this author. It has well- developed characters that make you hate or love them, real-life scenarios, and thrilling plot twists.
Everything is coming together and the suspense is killing me! How can I wait for the next book? I made a mistake and started reading these without knowing they all weren’t out. I LOVE IT!
Questions remain as Isaac remains in custody as DNA evidence against him piles up.
Mental illness - deliberately untreated by the sufferer - plays into current investigations, while Logan’s mother continues to disavow her younger son.
